The change towards meeting diverse customer needs has started to affect the hotel industry as well. Design hotels emerged as customers demanded differentiated lodging experiences they could not fulfill at franchise hotels which were uniform in style everywhere in the world. Design hotels are meant to provide a new concept of space through unique design sensibility and work of designers, which highlighted the role of interior design. This research analyzes the characteristics of indoor space expressed in design hotel common spaces by the French designer Andree Putman, also known as the founder of boutique hotels and the concept of design hotels. As the original founder of the concept of design hotels, Putman's scope of work stretches wide, from interior design to product design. She is also one of the few French designers with a modernist inclination. The research runs a review on previous literature, characteristics of design hotels according to design tendency, and the association with characteristics of indoor space designed by Andree Putman, followed by case analyses extracted by analyses on design characteristics of common spaces she has designed. The analysis reveals that she creates comfortable yet elegant space, using contrast and fusion arising from negotiation of design styles to interpret space, the sense of spatial balance and understated expression of order through symmetrical structures, diverse creation of space through geometric structuring, highlighting indoor space by utilizing lights as objects, and the heterogeneous harmony achieved by contrasting juxtaposition, and understated formativeness. It is expected that study results would be utilized as methods of new designs of interior space in design hotels.
Since it is important to understand data acquiring characteristics through relationship between spatial types and spatial elements and apply it to spatial plans for smooth communication between designer and user of space, the conclusions gained from analysis of data acquiring characteristics of spatial elements through image evaluation by types of interior space can be summarized as in the followings: First, for the amount of acquired data by types of interior space, it shows that the acquired amount of data is to change by types and data acquiring method (phrase and image) even though the spatial elements are same. Second, for the data acquiring process of spatial types by gender, it shows that there is a big difference in acquiring of data according to the evaluation method by phrase and image. Third, for the amount of acquired data of spatial types by gender, it shows that there is a difference between male and female, which is by "classic ${\rightarrow}$ modern ${\rightarrow}$ natural" in case of male and "classic ${\rightarrow}$ natural ${\rightarrow}$ modern" in case of female. regarding both of phrase and image. Fourth, for the evaluation by gender, it shows that there is a deviation in the value of difference according to the elements by which data acquiring characteristics evaluate space. It is considered that this deviation characteristic is in need of reflection in the process of spatial evaluation. This study analyzed data acquiring characteristics of space user's spatial elements through image evaluation by types of space to understand how data acquiring would be changed of spatial elements according to type and gender. Through this study, it expects to make clear that, when a designer is planning a certain space, if the space can be a space for the user by understanding of which elements should be exposed to users by types to acquire more data.
The purpose of this study was to identify and categorize the space use characteristics of the university professor's office. The data were recorded and collected through the physical trace method. Acture Measurement. Photograph, sketch and CAD drawings were used to trace 118 professors offices at Yonse-University. The analysed features were the user characteristics, the size, characteristics of space (such as composition, layout and furniture arrangement), the appliance and the instrument characteristics. To categorize the 'space use' characteristics. 6 variables were used: 1) the territorial characteristics, 2) the spatial relationship between professor's territory and entrance, 3) the layout type of work area, 4) the spatial relationship between professor's and assistant's work area, 5) the arrangement of table, and 6) the completion of sofa set. The results of this study are expected to be used as a basis for the development of design alternatives for the most typical university professors' office.

The villages in island were established overcoming natural environment through Shamanism and changed by developing various industrials like transportation. Gapa Island located in southern part of Jejudo is flat topography different from the other islands. The purpose of this study is to clarify characteristics on transformation of community space in Gapa Island. For purpose, community spaces in Gapa Island are researched such as establishment, function, change, and use of community space. Spatial components in Gapa Island are like as spaces in faith, residential area, area for production, commercial zone, community space, education facilities, public offices, port, and roads. The methods of this study are literature research and interview survey for residents in Gapa Island. The results are as followings: First, community space is in charge about social, industrial, and religious function. Second, for traditional spaces separated for male and female, demarcation of space does not exist in industrial side but the demarcation has still been exist in religious side. Finally, by development of tourism new community space has been charge in festival function as well as function of space like agora for meeting with people freely, which is relatively various in function of community space in social side. Role of the dock for ship, main transportation of island, is being increasing as square.
Industrial paradigm change and awareness change based on development of transportation and communication technology, many idle facilities had been occurred. These idle facilities become the factor which hinder image and environment of the surroundings. In recent years, social, cultural and economic value of idle facilities has been acknowledged and is regarded as an object of rehabilitation as part of urban problem solving. The purpose of this study is to analyze the characteristics of recycling design in the exhibition space used as a domestic idle facility and to utilize it as a basic data for creating an exhibition space using idle facilities in the future. The scope of the study was selected from 8 cases which were reproduced as exhibition space within the last 10 years mainly in Seoul and metropolitan area. It is analyzed by five characteristics of historicity, symbolism, preservability, connectivity, and placeness that are analyzed by the characteristics of rehabilitaion design. The conclusion is as follows. First, idle facilities can be divided into idle industrial facilities and idle non - industrial facilities. Second, the analysis of the characteristics of rehabilitaion design of idle facilities showed that the symbolism was much higher than other rehabilitaion design characteristics. Third, as a result of comparative analysis between idle industrial facility exhibition space and idle non - industrial facility exhibition space, historicity, preservability, and connectivity were high in the idle industrial facility exhibition space. In the exhibition space of idle non-industrial facilities, symbolism and placeness were high.
The change of digital technology caused not only the whole human life but also the change of a thinking form and an expression method of human beings. Also, the interactive communication structure became to form in space structure, and space users also get changed to an active system. The interaction between a human being and space, which uses digital media as a medium, makes a human being experience sensitivity through a cognitive process of a human being. The present research aimed to find out characteristics and expression of emotional space applied with digital technology based on the relationship between media space and cognitive functioning and to realize new emotional space. The research method was to define on digital media and experience by cognition of a human being through a literature research and a precedent research and to consider on approach to emotional space through experience of a cognition process like this. Based on the theory like this, the present research progressed by focusing on dramatized characteristics of experience in the digital media space and emotional space expression by induced characteristics. Through the analysis like this, the space applied with digital media could appear as a field of communication that can experience by forming mutual relation through perception of a human being. Additionally, the space induces active participation of a human being through various productions of media and responds to movement, and thus, this suggested infinite possibility as emotional space that can try new experience by stimulating a sense as effect of a cognitive process of a human being.
Spatial perception and spatial structure that focus on psychological effects produce a real force through the medium of space that can control human actions, even their psychology. The job of understanding the characteristics and effects of architectural spaces that recognize the relationship between architecture and human beings, including the psychological dimension, is an alternative search for quality spaces that can increase the mutual relationship between space and human beings. This paper introduces two propositions called "space" and "psychology" in order to discover a meta-pattern connecting space and the human mind with the aim of systematizing that internal network and establishing a new architectural system concerning space and human beings. This paper also proposes a method of accessing physical spaces that can affect psychological states through a conceptual substitution called "extension," with the aim of discovering the implications inherent in such extensive relationships and proposing a methodology of organizing psychological spaces based on the characteristics of that extensive connection. The means of extensively connecting psychological spaces were classified into the three categories of memory system, sensory system, and motor system, and their corresponding extensive connection characteristics called "simultaneous relativity," "non-mediated immediacy," and "purification process" were also derived. These characteristics accelerate the changes in psychological intensity and function as principles that organize psychological space.
Contemporary design of food and beverage(F&B) space reflects various needs, not only of eating, but also environmental ones. As a way of meeting this conceptual change and the various needs of contemporary consumers, kitsch expression is often utilized actively. Thus, this study intends to analyze the design characteristics and methods of kitsch expression found in contemporary F&B space and their correlations with sensitivity factors, focusing on relevant cases. Specifically, it examined the definition, origin, and changes of kitsch, and identified the sensitive role of kitsch in interior space. Next, it classified the kitsch characteristics and design methods found in interior design, finally analyzing the characteristics of kitsch expressions in contemporary F&B space by sensitivity factors and their correlations with design methods. As a consequence, it was found that the attempts in contemporary F&B space design to differentiate space through active introduction of various kitsch expressions were fulfilling the sensitive needs of changing consumers by providing new cultural experiences. That is, such attempts are considered to have improved the satisfaction of consumers who value sensitivity, by means of wide exchange of sensitivity between designers and consumers. To raise the sensitive satisfaction of consumers more in future, it is necessary to further continuous and in-depth research on the correlation between kitsch expressions and sensitivity factors in interior design.

The purpose of this study is to analyze common features and methodological differences of PN-spatial characteristics found in architectural theories and works of contemporary young architects in Japan, such as Sou Fujimoto, Yo shimada, Keisuke Maeda and Junya Ishigami. These architects have paid attention to space between nature and inner space and have tried to establish their own architectural theory on that. Such space is ambiguous and PN-spatial in a way that it has features of both nature and inner space. Ambiguousness is a characteristic of modern architecture and PN-spatial characteristics are one of the features of Japanese architecture. This study aims to analyze the architectural theories and works of contemporary young architects in Japan from the perspective of PN-space and to draw methodological differences and common features. Their theories and works have common features in terms of 'ambiguous spatial boundary', 'unregulated spatial territory', 'detoured circulation' and 'architectural motifs', but each has their own methodology. To sum up, the works and theories of the Japanese young architects contain the philosophy and discourse of modern architecture in general. To be sure, they clearly have characteristics of Japanese architecture, which needs to be studied constantly.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the meanings and expressional characteristics of space-time concept in modern architecture. As the architecture spaces reflect and represent the characteristics of times, the meaning and modern expression of space-time concept was studied in the developmental process of space concept on the base of the background of philosophy, science and psychology. At the late 19th century, space concept was changed with relative time-space in philosophy and science and the theory of visual perception. In the beginning of 20th century, space-time concept that combined space with time in the process of image open space expanded movement was developed. In modern architecture, it was expressed as the freedom of movement by open space expanded infinitely and/or abstract space without spacial measure, multiple view point by superimposed and/or polyhedric space and kinetic vision by dynamic and/or continuous space.
