  • The spermatogenesis of Siamese fighting fish, Betta splendens, belongs to Osphronemidae was investigated by light and electron microscopic observations. In primary spermatocyte stage, the nucleus was comparatively large ellipsoidal, and mitochondria showed a marked development in cytoplasm. In secondary spermatocyte stage, the germ cells were smaller than that of primary spermatocytes. The nucleus was a spherical shape and intercellular space was formed between germ cells. In spermatid stage, the early spermatids were not much different from a secondary spermatocyte. But, the chromatin condensation was occurred from the outside to the inside. The nucleus was more condensed. Intracellular space was larger than early spermatid. The mitochondria were rearranged in a middle piece, and occupied about half of the head part in early sperm. In sperm stage, the head of mature sperm was a spherical shape and had no acrosome. The flagellum was showed the typical 9+2 array of microtubules. Also, the tail of sperm had no lateral fins and outer coarse fibers. These ultrastructural characteristics can be used in classification of species.

  • Structural characteristics that influence on the insecticidal activity ($pI_{50}$) of 2-(n-octyl)isothiourea analogues (1-45) against the diamondback moth (Plutella xylostella, L.) based on three dimensional quantitative structure activity relationships (3D-QSARs) were discussed quantitatively using a comparative molecular field analysis (CoMFA) and a comparative molecular similarity indeces analysis (CoMSIA) methods. The statistical values of the CoMFA 2 model were better than those of the CoMSIA 1 model. The CoMFA 2 model was the optimized model with the correlativity (the training set: Ave. = 0.104 & PRESS = 0.613) and the predictability (the test set: Ave. = 0.086 & PRESS = 0.096). Insecticidal activities with the optimized CoMFA 2 model were dependent upon steric factors (79.4%) of $R_1-R_3$ substituents. From the analytical results of CoMFA contour maps, it is predicted that the R1 substituent of 1-45 which has a steric favor in a broad space, $R_2\;and\;R_3$ groups with a steric favor in a narrow space and a H-bond donor favor would have better the insecticidal activity.

  • Drastic changes were observed in egg chamber during oogenesis of Aedes togoi immediately after blood meal. The egg chamber, in which the oocyte remains at previtellogenic stage before blood meal, shows very little change in size even for 3 days after emergence but increased 25 folds in volume within 60 hours after blood meal, presumably due to rapid yolk formation. Upto 6 hours after blood meal structures considered to be the precursor of the yolk granules were not observed in the space between follicle cells and oocyte. Vitelline bodies, which are similar to dense bodies secreted from follicle cells, appeared in the space at 10 hours after blood meal. Although vitelline bodies were fused to form vitelline layer, these bodies seem to contribute to the formation of yolk granules. Nurse cells are connected to oocytes by cytoplasmic bridge before blood meal, but the cells are absorbed into oocyte at 6 hours after blood meal.

  • The discovery of biochemical and cellular functions of unannotated gene products begins with a database search of proteins with structure/sequence homologues based on known genes. Very recently, a number of frontier groups in structural biology proposed a new paradigm to predict biological functions of an unknown protein on the basis of its three-dimensional structure on a genomic scale. Structural proteomics (genomics), a research area for structure-based functional discovery, aims to complete the protein-folding universe of all gene products in a cell. It would lead us to a complete understanding of a living organism from protein structure. Two major complementary experimental techniques, X-ray crystallography and NMR spectroscopy, combined with recently developed high throughput methods have played a central role in structural proteomics research; however, an integration of these methodologies together with comparative modeling and electron microscopy would speed up the goal for completing a full dictionary of protein folding space in the near future.

  • For this study grasp coverage condition and forest stratification to various green space, observed air temperature and relative humidity. With this data, coverage condition and air temperature, relative humidity distribution, analyzed relationship of forest rate and air temperature or relative humidity, tree numbers and green volume and humidity by revolution analysis. In this result, higher none is formed artificiality and barren area, lower zone did fores and water area. Relative humidity have corresponding type of air temperature distribution. lower Tone was higher humidity. Different of Idlest type or water area, surround of forest showed relatively higher humidity. Increasing tree numbers or green volume effect higher humidity and this efficiency order of an arbor, subarbor, shrub.

  • A lack of space can be a key challenge when restoring lower anterior teeth using implants, especially for proper implant placement and the limitation on suitable implant selections. Moreover, depending on the shape of the prosthetic, the adjacent teeth and bone around the implant can also have a significant impact, while in certain cases, the implant can have a detrimental effect on the surrounding bone. Therefore, this case series highlights how variations in the subgingival contour can produce different results for the biology of the marginal bone around an implant and the interproximal bone of the adjacent teeth.

  • Sodium arsenite ($NaAsO_2$) was injected to the rat subcutaneously for the study of the acute toxicity of arsenite on hepatocytes, and the effects of pretreatment of arsenite and glutathione on the lethalty of the arsenite treated rats. Arsenite treated rat hepatocytes showed vacuolated cytosol and shrinked nuclear and expanded perinuclear space and cytoplasmic membrane whirl. Rats pretreated with BSO (L-Buthionine-SR-Sulfoximine), less survived than arsenite treated alone. It means that glutathione acts as a protecting agent against the arsenite. Subcutaneous sublethal dose (10mg/kg body weight) treatment was showed the protecting activity to lethality of lethal dose (15mg/kg body weight) treated rat. 10mg/kg body weight sublethal dose effects appeared in six hours intervals of between treatments.

  • The forming process of scale and socket of Pieris rapae L. during in 30 hr. pupa to in adult was morphologically investigated with scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy. 1. The scale forming cells which were distinguished from other epidermal cells were first observed in 30 hr. pupa. In the aspect that scale forming cell beared some morphological relations to socket forming cells and in the distribution of its organelles, scale forming cell was divided into three regions-basal region in which nucleus located, neck region which was surrounded by socket forming cells and scale region that was the cytoplasmic projection region over the wing surface. In process of the development of scale forming cell neck region and scale region were extended into the molting space and at this time, the changes of surface structure of scale region have occurred initially. 2. There was a more distinct process that scale region changed into the scale. Scale region which was first originated as clublike projection of the cell body was subsequently elongated and flattened out by broadening of the cytoplasm. After that, in the surface of scale were formed longitudinal ridges and microribs. In the late pupa, the cytoplsam of scale region have autolyzed by lysosome-like bodies and at length, scale which had air spaces, trabecula, pigment granules, longitudinal ridges and transverse ridges. 3. The major protion of socket forming cell located beside neck region of scale forming cell under the wing surface but the processing portion of the cell lay over the wing surface, suggesting that socket forming cells have actively processing. In extending to the molting space of neck and scale region, socket forming cells developed to the molting space and constructed socket.
