  • In this paper, we shall consider some properties of the metric projection as a set valued mapping. For a set G in a metric space E, the mapping 𝜋G; x → 𝜋G(x) of E into 2G is called set valued metric projection of E onto G. We investigated the properties related to the projection PS(·)(·) and 𝜋S(·)(·) as one-sided best simultaneous approximations.

  • In a manufacturing process of metal coins, surface defects of coins are manually detected. This paper describes an new method for detecting surface defects of metal coins on a moving conveyor belt using image processing. This method consists of multiple procedures: segmentation of a coin from the background, alignment of the coin to the model, projection of the aligned coin to the best eigen image space, and detection of defects by comparison of the projection error with an adaptive threshold. In these procedures, the alignement and the projection are newly developed in this paper for the detection of coin surface defects. For alignment, we use the histogram of the segmented coin, which converts two-dimensional image alignment to one-dimensional alignment. The projection reduces the intensity variation of the coin image caused by illumination and coin rotation change. For projection, we build multiple eigen image spaces and choose the best eigen space using estimated coin direction. Since each eigen space consists of a small number of eigen image vectors, we can implement the projection in real- time.

  • For the enhancement of a comprehension in temporomandibular joint radiographs, the author has compared and analysed the roentgenographic images of the temporomandibular joint of human dry skull which was taken by submentovertex projection, panoramic radiography, oblique lateral transcranial projection, corrected anterio-posterior tomogram and corrected lateral tomogram. The obtained results were as follows. 1. The submentovertex projection represented in detail the both poles and the posterior surface of the condylar head of the mandible. 2. The oblique lateral transcranial projection represented the articular space, the outer contour of the condylar head and the position of the condylar head within the mandibular fossa, but the relationship of the temporomandibular joint was not revealed accurate, because of the oblique direction of a central ray in taking radiographs. 3. The corrected antero-posterior tomogram was superior method in representation of roent- genographic images of the superior surface and the both poles of the condylar head and the corrected lateral tomogram was considered as the most accurate method among some radiographic techniques for the interpretation of articular space and condyle-fossa relationship. 4. It was possible to observe three-dimensionally the head of condyle with the combinated use of submentovertex projection, corrected antero-posterior tomogram and corrected lateral tomogram.

  • As the contemporary times entered, the attention focused on the 'human's perception on a space' as much as on that a space's physical structure, so the meaning of a space became defined depending on how a person thought over and behaved in the space. As this age is the times of consilience and integration, a space accepts new technologies beyond being defined simply based on the space's structure and its shape and tries to provide different, 'strange experiences' from tho se felt by the human until now. Recently in the filed of space design, it can be seen that the spae design's connection with various technologies affects on considerable influence on the all fields of culture and arts like space marketings, media arts, exhibitions and performances as well as the buildings. Especially. the fusion of digital images and architecture is actively developed. Images possessing the moving light's attributes shine a city night and day and a building changes a city's appearance itself by adding new materials on the surface of building. It is the purpose of this study to study what new experiences the human gets and creates from his interaction with spaces based on such technological fusion. By studying some cases that used the digital media as a mediating instrument as the way presenting spatial experiences to the human, this study intended to identify what design factors were applied and to find appropriate directions for space desig in relation to what new trials can be done.

  • The approximation properties for $L^2$-projection, Raviart-Thomas projection, and inverse inequality have been derived in 3 dimensional space. h-p-mixed finite element methods for strongly nonlinear second order elliptic problems are proposed and analyzed in 3D. Solvability and convergence of the linearized problem have been shown through duality argument and fixed point argument. The analysis is carried out in detail using Raviart-Thomas-Nedelec spaces as an example.

  • Halo coronal mass ejections (HCMEs) are mainly responsible for the most severe geomagnetic storms. To minimize the projection effect of the HCMEs observed by coronagraphs, several cone models have been suggested. These models allow us to determine the geometrical and kinematic parameters of HCMEs : radial speed, source location, angular width, and the angle between the central axis of the cone and the plane of the sky. In this study, we compare these parameters form two representative cone models (the ice-cream cone model and the asymmetric cone model) using well-observed HCMEs from 2001 to 2002. And we obtain the root mean square error (rms error) between observed projection speeds and calculated projection speeds for both cone models. It is found that the average rms speed error (89 km/s) of the asymmetric cone model is a little smaller than that (107 km/s) of the ice-cream cone models, implying that the radial speeds from both models are reasonably estimated. We also find that the radial speeds obtained from two models are similar to each other with the correlation coefficient of about 0.8.

  • Stabilization splint therapy Precedes orthodontic intervention to enable the operator to find a 'true' centric(which is stable and comfortable), to test the patient's response to a change in the occlusion, prior to embarking upon a complex course of occlusal therapy : and finally, to see if the centric relation position can be stabilized. For this study, 47 malocclusion Patients enrolled for orthodontic treatment at the Department of Orthodontics, College of Dentistry, Chosun University comprised the malocclusion group, little variation of growth factor by the second molar eruption. They had Cr-Co discrepancy beyond normal range. For each patients the stabilization splint with mutually protected type of occlusal scheme was applied for 3 months. Condylar positions in CR and CO were measured using Penadent articulators, Panadent condylar position indicator(CPI), and transcranial projection before & after stabilization splint therapy. On the basis of this study, the results of this study were as follows 1. In all samples using CPI, there were statistical significances in CR-CO discrepancy(p<0.001) both before 8t after stabilization splint therapy. 2. In Rt and Lt+Rt/2 of superior joint space using transcranial projection, there were statistical significances in CR-CO discrepancy({<0.05) before & after stabilization splint therapy. 3. In supero-inferior components using CPI, there were statistical significances in CR-CO discrepancy(p<0.01) before & after stabilization splint therapy. 4. In all components except Rt using transcranial projection, there were no statistical significances in CR-CO discrepancy(p>0.05) before & after stabilization splint therapy. To sum up, CPI might be more effective than transcranial projection to reveal the changes between CR-CO discrepancies and stabilization splint might be more useful appliance for displaying the vertical changes, than the antero-posterior changes, of condylar position.

  • In this paper, orthogonal projection of a point onto a 2D planar curve is discussed. The problem is formulated as finding a point on a curve where the tangent of the curve is perpendicular to the vector connecting the point on the curve and a point in the space. Existing methods are compared and novel approaches to solve the problem are presented. The proposed methods are tested with examples.

  • In this paper, we consider the convergence of the shrinking projection method for quasi-$\phi$-nonexpansive mappings. Strong convergence theorems are established in a uniformly smooth and strictly convex Banach space which enjoys the Kadec-Klee property.

  • A new method is proposed for the design of the dichroic mirrors in 3-LCD projection systems for color separation/composition. Rather than simply basing the color performance criterion on luminance or chromatic saturation only, the optimum design parameters can be found by maximizing the perceived color gamut in a 3-D uniform color space. In this method, the half-power wavelengths were optimized by maximizing the volume of the reproducible color gamut in a CIELUV uniform color space for 2 typical viewing conditions, with proper colorimetric analysis of color reproduction in 3-LCD projection systems.
