Functional Properties and Antimicrobial Activity of Bamboo(Phyllostachys sp.) Extracts (대나무 추출물의 기능성 및 항균활성)

  • Yields of bamboo extracts were 1.0∼1.5% in stalks and 3.1∼3.2% (w/w) in leaves. Electron donating ability of extracts from stalks was 62% in Maengjongjuk, 55% in Somdae and 52% in Wangdae, while that of leaf extracts showed very low level. On the contrary, nitrite-scavenging activity was higher in leaf extracts than stalk extracts, and the activity was 63, 57 and 55% in leaf extracts of Maengjongjuk, Wangdae and Somdae, respectively. Antimicrobial activity was examined against 7 major strains which cause food poisoning, and extracts of bamboo stalks showed somewhat activity, while leaf extracts showed merely or no activity according to strains. But all extracts showed relatively strong antimicrobial activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Vibrio parahaemolyticus, and extracts of Somdae stalks and Maengjongjuk leaves showed antimicrobial antimicrobial activity against those strains on 100${\mu}\ell$/disc concentrate.

Facial Feature Extraction Using Energy Probability in Frequency Domain (주파수 영역에서 에너지 확률을 이용한 얼굴 특징 추출)

  • In this paper, we propose a novel feature extraction method for face recognition, based on Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT), Energy Probability (EP), and Linear Discriminant Analysis (LDA). We define an energy probability as magnitude of effective information and it is used to create a frequency mask in OCT domain. The feature extraction method consists of three steps; i) the spatial domain of face images is transformed into the frequency domain called OCT domain; ii) energy property is applied on DCT domain that acquire from face image for the purpose of dimension reduction of data and optimization of valid information; iii) in order to obtain the most significant and invariant feature of face images, LDA is applied to the data extracted using frequency mask. In experiments, the recognition rate is 96.8% in ETRI database and 100% in ORL database. The proposed method has been shown improvements on the dimension reduction of feature space and the face recognition over the previously proposed methods.

  • Mercury- and cadmium-resistant bacteria were Isolated from an Industrial complex wastewater of Taejon area. All of them were motile, gram negative rods. In the results of physicochemical test and VITEK card test. HM1 was Identified with Achetobacter cd- coaceucus, CM3 was Identified 65 Commonas acidovorns, HM2, HM3, CMI , and CM4 were Pseudomonas sp., but HM4 and CM2 were unidenteed. They were tested for subceptlbility to 14 heavy metals. Mercury-resistant bacteria(HM1, HM2, HM3, and HM4) were sensitive to low concentration(100~400ppm) of $Cd^{2+}$, $Co^{2+}$. $Zn^{2+}$, and Ni2+, while cadmium-resistant bacteria(CM1, CM2, CM3, and CM4) showed resistance up to the high concentration(600~ 1, 200ppm) of these metal loons. As a result of resistance spectrum test of mercury-resistant bacteria, HM1 was broad-spectrum strain, HM2. HM3, and HM4 were narrow-spectrum stratas. Transmission electron microscopic examination of cell wall of HM1 culture grown with and without 100ppm of $HgCl_2$ showed remarkably merphological abnormalities. In the result of atomic absorption spectrometric analysis of cadmium-resistant bacteria grown at 200ppm of $CdCl_2$ for 6h, all of them accumulated cadrnium(14ppm~57ppm) In cell. In cadinium-resistant bacteria, CM1, CM2, and CM4 were spared from the Inhibitory effect of $Cd^{2+}$ by the addition of $Mn^{2+}$, CM4 were also spared from the Inhibitory effect of $Cd^{2+}$ by the addition of $Mn^{2+}$ as well as $Zn^{2+}$.

Free Radical Scavenging Activity of Methanol Extracts of Chungkukjang

  • To further the goal of isolating Bacillus sp. from commercial chungkukjang (CKJ) for a development of a probiotic dietary adjunct using soymilk or milk, antioxidant activity of CKJ purchased from the Sunchang Traditional Village in Chunbook province was examined. Six CKJ samples were evaluated and 3 were selected based on the results of the physicochemical analysis and sensory evaluation for further antioxidant study. $IC_{50}$ for DPPH scavenging activity of methanol extracts of CKJ ranged from 238.1 to 345.7 ${\mu}g/mL$. CKJ exhibited over 80% scavenging of ${\cdot}OH$ and ONOO- at concentrations of 100 ${\mu}g/mL$ and 250 ${\mu}g/mL$, respectively. $O_2^-$ and NO scavenging activities of three CKJ were increased in a dose dependent manner with the concentration tested from 100 to 1000 ${\mu}g/mL$. In this study, the methanol extract of CKJ exhibited a great reduction capability and powerful free radical scavenging activity, especially against OH. and ONOO-, which are the most toxic radicals responsible for oxidative damage in the body. However, radical scavenging effects of CKJ on DPPH, $O_2^-$, and nitrite radical were rather moderate. In conclusion, CKJ may reduce the oxidative stress in the body by scavenging the free radicals.

Purification and Characterization of the External Invertase Constitutively Produced by Rhodotorula glutinis K-24 (Rhodotorula glutinis K-24에 의해 구성적으로 생산되는 세포외 Invertase의 정제 및 특성)

  • Rhodoto& ghtbth~ K-24 was found to produce external invertase in addition to internal and cell wall bound invertase. External invertase was purified to an electrophoretically homogeneous state and partitally characterized and was compared with internal and cell wall bound invertase of which procedures for purification and characterization were reported previously. The enzyme was purified by ethanol precipitation, column chromatographies on DEAE-Sephadex A-50 and SP-Sephadex C-50, and gel filtration on Sephadex G-100. The molecular weight and subunit molecular weight of external invertasGwere estimated to be 220,000 and 100,000, respectively. The isoelectric point of the enzyme was about pH 6.0. The optimum pH and temperature for enzyme activity were pH 4.0 and $60^{\circ}C$, respectively. The enzyme remained stable at the wide range, from pH 3.0 to 11.0 and stable up to $40^{\circ}C$, but was inactivated at temperatures above that. $HgC_12, AgN0_3, MnS0_4$, SDS and p-CMB inhibited the enzyme activity. The $K_m$ value of the enzyme for sucrose was $1.0\times 10^{-2}$M. From these results, the three isozymes from Rh. glutinis K-24 seem to have the similar enzymatic properties, but to differ in molecular and subunit weights.

Changes in the Contents of Dietary Fibers and Pectic Substances during Fermentation of Baik-kimchi (백김치 숙성중 식이섬유 및 펙틴질의 함량변화)

  • To observe the food quality of Baik-kimchi which is known as a watery Chinese cabbage pickles without fish sauce and red pepper paste, the changes of dietary fibers and pectic substances during fermentation at 5$^{\circ}C$ and $25^{\circ}C$ were studied. Baik-kimchi fermented at $25^{\circ}C$ showed a greater changes in pH and acidity than those of 5$^{\circ}C$ during storage. Ripened Baik-kimchi products fermented at 5$^{\circ}C$ could be prepared on 9~12 days of fermentation, and those had a pH range from 4.25 to 4.40 and acidity of 0.34~0.53. But in the case of $25^{\circ}C$ fermentation, Baik-kimchi ripened for 3 days showed a pH of 4.02 and acidity of 0.54. The pH and acidity of the Baik-kimchi juice changed more rapidly than those of the Baik-kimchi solid regardless of fermentation temperatures. The content of soluble dietary fiber(SDF) was ranged from 3.06 to 4.87% at 5$^{\circ}C$ and a wide variation in SDF was observed in the sample fermented at $25^{\circ}C$(4.15~11.22%). Insoluble dietary fiber(IDF) were increased from 21.66% to 28.42% in solid of Baik-kimchi during fermentation at 5$^{\circ}C$ and ranged from 21.37% to 24.65% for sample fermented at $25^{\circ}C$. A notable amount of pectin had been dissolved in juice of Baik-kimchi till the best ripening time and showed the level of 223.2mg/100ml at 5$^{\circ}C$ on the day of 9 and 207.3mg/100ml at $25^{\circ}C$ on the day of 2. In contrast, the contents of pectin in solid Baik-kimchi decreased, whereas contents of sodium hexametaphosphate soluble pectin(HXSP) and HCl soluble pectin(HClSP) increased with fermentation period.

Fabrication and Characterization of Silver Copper(I) Oxide Nanoparticles for a Conductive Paste (은이 코팅된 Copper(I) Oxide 나노 입자 및 도전성 페이스트의 제조 특성)

  • This study investigates Ag coated $Cu_2O$ nanoparticles that are produced with a changing molar ratio of Ag and $Cu_2O$. The results of XRD analysis reveal that each nanoparticle has a diffraction pattern peculiar to Ag and $Cu_2O$ determination, and SEM image analysis confirms that Ag is partially coated on the surface of $Cu_2O$ nanoparticles. The conductive paste with Ag coated $Cu_2O$ nanoparticles approaches the specific resistance of $6.4{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$ for silver paste(SP) as $(Ag)/(Cu_2O)$ the molar ratio increases. The paste(containing 70 % content and average a 100 nm particle size for the silver nanoparticles) for commercial use for mounting with a fine line width of $100{\mu}m$ or less has a surface resistance of 5 to $20{\mu}{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$, while in this research an Ag coated $Cu_2O$ paste has a larger surface resistance, which is disadvantageous. Its performance deteriorates as a material required for application of a fine line width electrode for a touch panel. A touch panel module that utilizes a nano imprinting technique of $10{\mu}m$ or less is expected to be used as an electrode material for electric and electronic parts where large precision(mounting with fine line width) is not required.

Empirical Research on the Death of Foreign-invested Companies (외국인 투자기업의 사멸에 관한 실증연구)

  • This study was conducted to analyze firms' death rate and impact factors on the death of Foreign-invested Companies in Korea which is between 20013 and 2017. Cox Proportional Hazard Model took to conduct on the death impact factors, such as 2 characteristics factors of the firm, and 4 financial characteristics variables, variables, and 4 profitability factors. As a result of the impact factors of Foreign-invested Companies' death the Labour(NE) variables of characteristics firm had negative effects. And the Debt(LB), Operating Profit (OP), and Sales Profit (SP) of the financial characteristics had a negative effect. Other factors did not produce significant results. As a result of an empirically comparative analysis of the mortality rate of foreign-invested companies by the Kaplan-Meier method, it was analyzed that fully owned companies and large enterprises had lower extinction risk and greater sustainable management potential than joint ventures or SMEs.

Comparative Analysis of Salmonella enterica subsp. enterica Serovar Thompson Isolates associated with Outbreaks Using PFGE and wgMLST

  • The strains associated with foodborne Salmonella enterica Thompson outbreaks in Korea have not been identified. Therefore, we characterized S. Thompson strains isolated from chocolate cakes linked to foodborne outbreaks in Korea. A total of 56 strains were isolated from preserved cake products, products in the supply chain distribution, the manufacturer's apparatus, and egg white liquid products used for cream preparation. Subsequently, serological typing, pathogenic gene-targeted polymerase chain reaction (PCR), pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE), and whole-genome multi-locus sequence typing (wgMLST) were performed to characterize these isolates. The antigen formula of all isolates was 7:k:1,5, namely Salmonella enterica subsp. enterica Serovar Thompson. All 56 isolates harbored invA, his, hin, and stn, and were negative for sefA and spvC based on gene-targeted PCR analyses. Based on PFGE results, these isolates were classified into one group based on the same SP6X01.011 pattern with 100% similarity. We selected 19 strains based on the region and sample type, which were subjected to wgMLST. Although the examined strains showed 100% similarity, they were classified into seven clusters based on allelic differences. According to our findings, the cause of these outbreaks was chocolate cake manufactured with egg white liquid contaminated with the same Salmonella Thompson. Additionally, comparative analysis of wgMLST on domestic isolates of S. Thompson from the three outbreaks showed genetic similarities of over 99.6%. Based on the results, the PFGE and wgMLST combination can provide highly resolved phylogeny and reliable evidence during Salmonella outbreak investigations.

Effect of High-Temperature Post-Oxidation Annealing in Diluted Nitric Oxide Gas on the SiO2/4H-SiC Interface (4H-SiC와 산화막 계면에 대한 혼합된 일산화질소 가스를 이용한 산화 후속 열처리 효과)

  • 4H-SiC power metal-oxide-semiconductor field effect transistors (MOSFETs) have been developed to achieve lower specific-on-resistance (Ron,sp), and the gate oxides have been thermally grown. The poor channel mobility resulting from the high interface trap density (Dit) at the SiO2/4H-SiC interface significantly affects the higher switching loss of the power device. Therefore, the development of novel fabrication processes to enhance the quality of the SiO2/4H-SiC interface is required. In this paper, NO post-oxidation annealing (POA) by using the conditions of N2 diluted NO at a high temperature (1,300℃) is proposed to reduce the high interface trap density resulting from thermal oxidation. The NO POA is carried out in various NO ambient (0, 10, 50, and 100% NO mixed with 100, 90, 50, and 0% of high purity N2 gas to achieve the optimized condition while maintaining a high temperature (1,300℃). To confirm the optimized condition of the NO POA, measuring capacitance-voltage (C-V) and current-voltage (I-V), and time-of-flight secondary-ion mass spectrometry (ToF-SIMS) are employed. It is confirmed that the POA condition of 50% NO at 1,300℃ facilitates the equilibrium state of both the oxidation and nitridation at the SiO2/4H-SiC interface, thereby reducing the Dit.
