  • When it is raining or snowing, floating debris flows into a lake and raises its turbidity. High level of turbidity in the lake often causes eutrophication, which pollutes the water. In order to collect and present some essential information for effective management plan for water quality, we carried out our research at the watershed of Mandae-cheon located at the upstream of Soyang Lake. We examined water quality at the time of rainfall or snowfall to analyze the changes in the amount of suspend soils(SS) in the lake.

  • Recently, the social and environmental functions of nature river are important due to the increase of expectation for river restoration. So it should be considered the effect of vegetation affecting the conveyance capacity and hydraulic resistance. However, it has not yet proposed a objective standard and modeling method to estimate the effect of conveyance capacity according to vegetaion distribution in the watercourse such as water level or velocity. Therefore, this study simulates the variations of water level and velocity using 3-dimensional hydrodynamic model, EFDC, to consider a conveyance capacity in downstream of the Soyang Reservoir. The simulation results were validated using statistical index such as F-test and T-test. As results, the water level rises about 0.01 to 0.47m and velocity difference are about -0.95m/s to 0.23m/s.

  • In this study, we analyzed surface temperature of lakes in the Han River system, using Landsat-5 and -7 time-series images. Surface temperature was extracted using NASA equation and compared with in situ 10m-depth temperature in Lake Soyang and surface temperature on five other dam lakes downstream. The 24 images out of 29 showed standard deviation of temperature difference less than $2^{\circ}C$, to which a novel statistical atmospheric correction could be applied. The correlation coefficients were 0.950 at Lake Soyang and 0.979-0.997 at the other lakes after atmospheric correction.

  • To define the effects of zooplankton and phytoplankton to bacteria, bacterial numbers, frequency of dividing cells (FDC) and size distribution were performed with image analysis in the surface layer of Lake Soyang. In August 1992, when Anabaena was blooming, the bacterial number increased at daytime. Bacterial numbers and FDC value had a negative correlation (r = 0.83, P < 0.01). Bacterial size spectrums were dynamically changed during the day and night, especially the small bacteria less than $0.5\;{\mu}m^3$. Meanwhile, in October, after the bloom, the bacterial number was only one third of that in August, even though the FDC was higher than that in August. The bacterial numbers of small size class dropped at 13:00. But the size spectrums were relatively constant during the night time. These results suggest that the bacterial growth was tightly coupled with phytoplankton during Anabaena bloom. And after the bloom, the bacterial number was controlled grazing activity of zooplankton at daytime.

  • The bacterial secondary production was measured at 6 sites of Lake Soyang in October, 1989 by $^{3}$H-thymidine incorporation rate. Verfication for the method of bacterial secondary production measurement showed that $^{3}$H-thymidine incorporated into DNA, RNA and protein by average percentage of 38.45, 42.27 and 20.07%, respectively. THe more increased incoporated $^{3}$H-thymidine, the more increasde DNA fraction, but protein fraction was generally low. Incorporation of rate of /usp 3/H-thymidine. $^{3}$H-leucine into protein correlated with protein fraction of incorporated $^{3}$H-thymidine. Conversion factors were calculated as follows; $1.83*10 ^{20}$ cells/moles of thymidine incorporated/hr and 1.69*10$^{22}$ cells/moles of leucine incorporated/hr.

  • Physical and chemical environmental factors influencing on the outbreak of freshwater red tide by Peridinium bipes (dinoflagellate) in Soyang Reservoir were studied. Red tide occured in the site of inflowing of tributary streams annually, but the extent and severity of red tide varied from year to year. Several environmental factors such as water level, nutrient releasing from sediment, cyst resuspension, and concentrations of $Ca^{2+}$ and $Mg^{2+}$were studiedin relation to development, extent, and duration of red tide. In June of 1989 and 1991, the red tides of Peridinium bipes were very severe, and these red tides coincided with notable and rapid drawdown of lake water in late spring. Nutrient releasing and cyst resuspension by turbulence during drawdown were suggested as main causes of red tide. The quanity of nutrient releasing from sediment and hydrometeorological factors such as run-off and wind may determine the extent and duration of red tide.

  • In this study, the plausible grid size was estimated to increase for efficiency of reservoir management using 3 dimensional water quality model. To validate utilization of a real time water quality management tool, ELCOM-CAEDYM model was applied to Soyang reservoir in korea. 100m grid size can represent the real topography and take out exact analysis results. $400{\times}400m$ grid can be easily used to analysis because of data capacity. Consequently, the grid size of 200m or 300m was recommended to establish 3D model considering the required simulation time and the irrelevance between horizontal grid size and vertical distribution for temperature and turbidity analysis.

  • Objectives This study aimed to provide a basis for treatment of soyang person by investigate published case series of soyangin Methods We have reviewed case series of soyangin in the Journal of Sasang Medicine from 2007 to 2016. Results A total of 16 case series related to soyangin were reported. Among them, herbal medicine was used in 16 papers (100.0%), of which 'Hyeongbangjihwang-tang' was the most frequently used, reported in five papers (31.3%). For acupuncture of 12 papers (75.0%), acupoint 'ST36' was the most frequently used, reported in four papers (33.3%). Conclusions Most of the included case series were effective in treating patients of soyangin. However, the number of papers was insufficient to suggest standardized treatment for "diseases-Sasang medicine pattern-treatment" systems.

  • Cyanobacterial toxins, microcystins are very potent hepatotoxins and their occurrence has been reported all over the world. They could threaten human health when toxic Microcystis occurs in water supply reservoirs. In this study, the effects of several environmental factors on production and degradation of toxins produced by cyanobacteria in Lake Soyang have been studied. A new rapid quantification method of microcystins using fluorescence for a detection signal and a lateral-flow-type immunochromatography as a separation system was used. Culture age, temperature, light intensity, pH, N-nutrient concentration, P-nutrient concentration, iron and zinc concentration were the most importantly examined factors. The toxin content was the highest on 17-18 days and at temperatures between 20℃ and 25℃, and at pH between 8.4 and 8.8.
