  • In order to study unconsolidated sediments upstream of the Soyang Dam, seismic refraction data were recorded along five profiles of 94 m length. Receiver interval and record length were 2 m and 204 ms, respectively. Recorded data were analyzed using the traveltime tomography and delay-time methods in order to reveal sediment distribution in the investigation site. The acoustic basements are buried at approximately 14 m deep and their thickness shallows to southeast approaching to a hill. On the basement, pre-existing sediments deposited before construction of the Soyang dam lies. This sedimentary layer is composed of paleo-soil and sandy sediments. Above this layer, recent sediments comprise the top layer which is believed to have been deposited since the formation of the dam. Average thickness of this uppermost layer is approximately 1.6 m, which is much thicker than in the downstream.

  • To access the volume of sediments deposited after construction of the Soyang Dan and to understand their distribution in the Soyang lake, acoustic profiling using a 10-20 kHz system was conducted along profiles of 227 km length. Profile intervals are approximately 50 and 500 m for longitudinal and cross lines, respectively. The data were gain-controlled and then migrated using the f-k algorithm. After digitization of boundaries of the sediments, the acoustic interpretation was verified through correlating with 38 core samples. Thickness of the sediments averages 0.25 m and reaches to 8.25 m at maximum. Estimated total volume of the sediments based on anisotropic models in geostatistical methods is approximately $5.9{\times}10^6\;m^3$, which is more than twice greater than the earlier estimation based on an isotropic model.

  • This sludy was conducted to investigate the change of bacterial co~munities with season and depth in Lake Soyang. Korea, using fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH). The oligonucleotide probes used in this study were EUB338, ALF I b. GAM42a, and CF, The percentage of h e Proleobacteria a $\alpha$-group ranged from 0.70 to 33% the $\beta$-group from 1.0 to 26% they -group from 2.4 Lo 37% and Cytophagn and Flavobactefin groups from 4.7 to 24% duing the study period (April Lo November, 1998). They $\gamma$-group was dominant in spring when Asterionella was dominant. and a $\alpha$-group was dominant in summer when the organic content was low and Dinobryon was dominant. However, a specific group was not dominant in ?dl when cyanobacteria group was dominant and the ratio of eubacleria to total bacteria was very low. Therefore, the bacterial communities in Lake Soyang changed with season and depth, which seems to be associated with the telnporal succession of phytoplanlaons.

  • The presence of pathogens in wild fish is a potential threat to the fish being raised nearby fish farm. Surveillance of these pathogens in the wild is, thus, highly important to keep fish in the farm safe from serious communicable diseases. Fish and crustacean were sampled 4 times at Soyang Lake in 2016. Pathogens for five reportable communicable diseases including KHVD (koi herpesvirus disease), SVC (spring viraemia of carp), EUS (epizootic ulcerative syndrome) and WSD (white spot disease), and parasites were investigated. In Soyang Lake, pale chub Zacco platypus was the most abundant. Forty seven pale chub, 8 Korea piscivorous chub Opsarichthys uncirostris, 3 oily shiner Sarcocheilichthys variegatus wakiyae and 2 crucian carp Cyprinus carassius were investigated for detection of target diseases of fish. Seventeen Caridina denticulata denticulata, 12 Oriental river prawn Macrobrachium nipponense and 1 Chinese mitten crab Eriocheir sinensis were used for detection of WSD. As the result, reportable communicable diseases were not detected in all the freshwater animals. Dactylogyrus was detected in Korea piscivorous chub. Copepoda was also detected in pale chub and Korea piscivorous chub. Metacercaria was detected in the pale chub sampled in September and October. Those were not metacercaria of liver fluke Clonorchis sinensis.

  • A long-term resuspension of small particles, called persistent turbidity, is one of the most important water quality concerns in the dam reservoirs system located in North Han River. Persistent turbidity may incur aesthetic nuisance and harmful effect on the ecosystem health, in addition to elevated water treatment costs for the drinking water supply to the Seoul metropolitan area. These sufferings have been more intensified as the strength and frequency of rainfall events increase by climate change in the basin. This study was to analyze the effect of an extreme turbidity flow event that occurred in 2006 on the serial reservoirs system (Soyang-Uiam-Cheongpyung-Paldang) in North Han River. The CE-QUAL-W2 model was set up and calibrated for the river and reservoirs system using the field data obtained in 2006 and 2007. The results showed that Soyang Reservoir released turbid water, which was classified as the TSS concentration is greater than 25 mg/L, for 334 days with peak TSS of 264.1 mg/L after the extreme flood event (592.7 mm) occurred between July 10 and 18 of 2006. The turbid water departed from Soyang Reservoir reached at the most downstream Paldang Reservoir after about 20 days and sustained for 41 days, which was validated with water treatment plant data. Since the released water from Soyang Reservoir had low water temperature and high TSS, an underflow formed in the downstream reservoirs and vertically mixed at Paldang Reservoir due to dilution by the sufficient inflow from South Han River.

  • The feeding habits of the Siniperca scherzeri were studied using 332 specimens collected by trammel net in the Soyang Lake of Han River, from April to November 2014. Of 332 specimens, 197 contained food and 135 were empty. The standard length of individuals used in this study ranged from 107 to 321 mm. Mandarin fish mainly consumed fishes and shrimps. The main food items of fishes and shrimps were Hypomesus nipponensis and Macrobrachium nipponense. The proportion of fishes in prey items increased with increasing mandarin fish length, however shrimps decreased with growth. The seasonal difference were apparent, fishes were taken mainly all the seasons except June, July and October. There were higher rates of fishes for food items in downstream areas than in the upper and middle areas of the Soyang Lake.

  • We surveyed on the infection status of zoonotic trematode metacercariae (ZTM) in freshwater fishes from Soyang-cheon (a branch stream of Mangyeong-gang) in Wanju-gun, Jeollabuk-do, the Republic of Korea. A total of 927 fishes were individually examined with the artificial digestion method during 2013-2015 (462 fish in 15 spp.) and 2018-2019 (465 fish in 25 spp.). Clonorchis sinensis metacercariae were detected in 207 (31.4%) out of 659 fishes in 14 positive fish species (PFS), and their mean intensity was 114 per fish infected (PFI). Metagonimus spp. metacercariae were found in 302 (37.4%) out of 808 fishes in 21 PFS, and their mean intensity was 12 PFI. Centrocestus armatus metacercariae were detected in 222 (59.0%) out of 376 fishes in 12 PFS, and their mean intensity was 383 PFI. Echinostoma spp. metacercariae were found in 139 (22.1%) out of 628 fishes in 10 PFS, and their mean intensity was 7 PFI. Clinostomum complanatum metacercariae were detected in 14 (6.5%) out of 214 fishes in 4 PFS, and their mean intensity was 2.4 PFI. Metorchis orientalis metacercariae were detected in 36 (13.5%) out of 267 fishes in 5 PFS, and their mean intensity was 4.3 PFI. Conclusively, the prevalence and infection intensity of ZTM is generally not so high in fishes from Soyang-cheon. However, those of C. sinensis metacercariae are more or less higher in 2 fish species, Pungtungia herzi and Sarcocheilichthys variegatus wakiyae.

  • Objectives : This dissertation is to study the relationship between Scoliosis and Sasang Constitution. Methods : The researcher discriminated the Sasang constitutions of those observed - the out-patients - who were treated from January to June 2004, and showed, through whole spine X-ray, over 10 degrees in Cobb's angle. The result coming out from this study was compared firstly with the existing Sasang constitution theory from 《Dongyi Suse Bowon》 《東醫壽世保元》 and secondly with the existing of QSCCII statistics. The statistics were taken as Goodness-of-fit test, T-test, and ANOVA test. Results : 1. Of those 29 observed, 4(13.79%) were categorized in Taeum-in, 14(48.28%) in Soyang-in, and 11(37.93%)in Soum-in. 2. The result showed a significant difference with the Sasang constitution from Dong-isusebowon. 3. The result showed a difference with the existing from QSCCII. 4. There of no significant relations between each constitutions and Scoliosis. 5. There no significant relations between distinction and Scoliosis. Conclusions : In this study, rate of Soyang-in, among patients diagnosed scoliosis, was the higher.

  • This study describes the WASMOD, water balance model which can consider the snowmelting. The pilot study basin is the Soyang River basin with outlet at Soyang Dam Site and compute long-term monthly streamflow, The advantage of the WASMOD is that the input data is simple and the user can operate easily. To optimize for the parameters of the model, the WASMOD used VA05A of automatic fitting technique. The observed and simulated monthly streamflow hydrographs were compared. The model performance on corrleation coefficient between the observed and the simulated streamflow for the verification periods was above 0.89. It was shown that the WASMOD reproduces the observed monthly streamflow hydrographs very well. This evidence suggests that the WASMOD might be appropriate for the simulation of monthly streamflow

  • Zooplankton feeding was investigated with epilluorescence microscope in Lake Soyang in August 1991. Zooplankton. which ingested fluorescence bead or fluorescently labeled bacteria (FLB). was regarded as bacterivore. The algavores wert. easily distinguished with autofluorescence of chlorophyll in gut. Copepoda nauplius and Copepodids. 7'hermocyclop.s spp, Pleosomcl spp. Brachionus spp were algavores. and DuphnB hpp. Bosmincr spp. Kerutrlla spp and Hrxuthru spp werc identified as bacterivc~res.T he mixo\ory was not detected. The percentages of algavores and bacterivores in Lake Hoyang were 65 7% and 34.3%. respectively. The bacterivorous zooplankton had trend to ingcst the beads bigger than 0.5 pm. Use of 0.5 pm bead as grazing tracer gave similar estin~ates of ingestion to FLR.
