Recently, owing to increased interest in low-carbon energy supplies, renewable energy sources such as photovoltaics and wind turbines in distribution networks have received considerable attention for generating clean and unlimited energy. The presence of energy storage systems (ESSs) in the promising field of active distribution networks (ADNs) would have direct impact on power system problems such as encountered in probabilistic distributed generation (DG) model studies. Hence, the optimal procedure is offered herein, in which the simultaneous placement of an ESS, photovoltaic-based DG, and wind turbine-based DG in an ADN is taken into account. The main goal of this paper is to maximize the net present value of the loss reduction benefit by considering the price of electricity for each load state. The proposed framework consists of a scenario tree method for covering the existing uncertainties in the distribution network's load demand as well as DG. The collected results verify the considerable effect of concurrent installation of probabilistic DG models and an ESS in defining the optimum site of DG and the ESS and they demonstrate that the optimum operation of an ESS in the ADN is consequently related to the highest value of the loss reduction benefit in long-term planning as well. The results obtained are encouraging.

Because of the trend of deregulation, power industry is going through an unprecedented transformation in North America and Europe, and there are a host of acquisitions and mergers by the private sector to position themselves to take advantage of new business opportunities. Deregulation has accelerated the development of smaller generators and fuel cells will gradually become more attractive to mainstream electricity users as they improve in capability and decrease in cost. Fuel Cell technology is surveyed and the potential of using fuel cell as a distributed generation source is presented. This paper recommends the fuel cell power plants as alternative energy sources for distributed generation in Jeju Island, Korea. This will help in increasing fuel efficiency, at least double the current thermal plants', increasing the reliability of power supply, reducing the dependency on the HVDC link, providing quality power to the growing infrastructure, and maintaining clean air in meeting the free-trade international island.
Post-kyoto regime has been discussing with the GHG reduction commitment. GHG energy target management system also has been applied for the domestic measures in the country. Universities are major emission sources for GHG. It is very important for campus to built the GHG inventory system and estimate the potential GHG emission reduction. In general, GHG inventory on the campus was taken by the IPCC guidance with the classification of scope 1, 2, and 3. Electricity was the highest portion of GHG emission on the campus as 5,053.90 $tonsCO_2eq/yr$ in 2009. Manufacturing sector was the second high emission and meant GHG in laboratory. Potential GHG reduction was planned by several assumptions such as installation of occupancy sensor, exchanging LED lamp and photovoltaic power generation. These reduction scenarios was simulated by LEAP model. In 2020, outlook of GHG emission was estimated by 17,435.98 tons of $CO_2$ without any plans of reduction. If the reduction scenarios was applied in 2020, GHG emission would be 16,507.60 tons of $CO_2$ as 5.3% potential reduction.
With the growing penetration of distributed generation including from renewable sources, smart grid power system is needed to address the reliability problem. One important feature of smart grid is demand response. In order to design a demand response program, it is indispensable to understand how consumer reacts upon the change of electricity price. In this paper, we construct an econometrics model to estimate the hourly price elasticity of demand. This panel model utilizes the hourly load data obtained from KEPCO for the period from year 2005 to 2009. The hourly price elasticity of demand is found to be statistically significant for all the sample under investigation. The samples used for this analysis is from the past historical data under the price structure of three different time zones for each season. The result of the analysis of this time of use pricing structure would allow the policy maker design an appropriate incentive program. This study is important in the sense that it provides a basic research information for designing future demand response programs.
The purpose of this study is to manufacture and test a thermoelectric generator which converts unused energy from close-at-hand sources, such as garbage incineration heat and industrial exhaust, to electricity. A manufacturing process and the properties of a thermoelectric generator are discussed before simulation the thermal stress and thermal properties of a thermoelectric module located between an aluminum tube and alumina plate. We can design the thermoelectric modules having the good properties of thermoelectric generation. Resistivity of thermoelectric module for thermoelectric generation consisting of 62 cells was $0.15{\sim}0.4{\Omega}$. The maximum power of thermoelectric generator using thermoelectric generation modules can be defined as temperature function, and in this case. It can be analogized the lineal relation between current and voltage characteristics as function of temperature. The thermoelectric generator using 32 thermoelectric modules was assembled with 32 directly connected modules that they constrained for two kinds of heat transfer tube with key joints.

Photovoltaic energy conversion becomes main focus of many researches due to its promising potential as source for future electricity and has many advantages than the other alternative energy sources like wind, solar, ocean, biomass, geothermal etc. In Photovoltaic power generation multilevel inverters play a vital role in power conversion. The three different topologies, diode-clamped (neutral-point clamped) inverter, capacitor-clamped (flying capacitor) inverter and cascaded h-bridge multilevel inverter are widely used in these multilevel inverters. Among the three topologies, cascaded h-bridge multilevel inverter is more suitable for photovoltaic applications since each pv array can act as a separate dc source for each h-bridge module. This paper presents a single phase Cascaded H-bridge five level inverter for grid-connected photovoltaic application using sinusoidal pulse width modulation technique. This inverter output voltage waveform reduces the harmonics in the generated current and the filtering effort at the input. The control strategy allows the independent control of each dc-link voltages and tracks the maximum power point of PV strings. This topology can inject to the grid sinusoidal input currents with unity power factor and achieves low harmonic distortion. A PID control algorithm is implemented in Arm Processor LPC2148. The validity of the proposed inverter is verified through simulation and is implemented in a single phase 100W prototype. The results of hardware are compared with simulation results. The proposed system offers improved performance over conventional three level inverter in terms of THD.

Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) and Home Centralized Photovoltaic (HCPV) systems can address various energy storage issues and enhance demand response programs. Renewable energy, such as solar energy and wind turbines, address the energy gap. However, no energy management system is currently available to regulate the uncertainty of renewable energy sources, electric vehicles, and appliance consumption within a smart microgrid. Therefore, this study investigated the impact of solar photovoltaic (PV) panels, electric vehicles, and Micro-Grid (MG) storage on maximum solar radiation hours. Several Deep Learning (DL) algorithms were applied to account for the uncertainty. Moreover, a Reinforcement Learning HCPV (RL-HCPV) algorithm was created for efficient real-time energy scheduling decisions. The proposed algorithm managed the energy demand between PV solar energy generation and vehicle energy storage. RL-HCPV was modeled according to several constraints to meet household electricity demands in sunny and cloudy weather. Simulations demonstrated how the proposed RL-HCPV system could efficiently handle the demand response and how V2H can help to smooth the appliance load profile and reduce power consumption costs with sustainable power generation. The results demonstrated the advantages of utilizing RL and V2H as potential storage technology for smart buildings.

Carotenoids produced by non-photosynthetic bacteria protect organisms against lethal photodynamic reactions and scavenge oxygenic radicals. However, the carotenoid produced by Gordonia alkanivorans SKF120101 is coupled to reducing power generation. SKF120101 selectively produces carotenoid under light conditions. The growth yield of SKF120101 cultivated under light conditions was higher than that under dark condition. In the cyclic voltammetry, both upper and lower voltammograms for neutral red (NR) immobilized in intact cells of SKF120101 were not shifted in the condition without external redox sources but were commonly shifted downward by glucose addition and light. Electric current generation in a biofuel cell system (BFCS) catalyzed by harvested cells of SKF120101 was higher under light than dark condition. The ratio of electricity generation to glucose consumption by SKF120101 cultivated in BFCS was higher under light than dark condition. The carotenoid produced by SKF120101 catalyzes production of reducing power from light energy, first evaluated by the electrochemical technique used in this research.

DC/DC converters are commonly used to generate regulated DC output voltages with high-power efficiencies from different DC input sources. The converters can be applied in the regenerative braking of DC motors to return energy back to the supply, resulting in energy savings for the systems at periodic intervals. The fundamental converter studied here consists of an IGBT (Insulated Gate Bipolar mode Transistor), an inductor, a capacitor, a diode, a PWM-IC (Pulse Width Modulation Integrated Circuit) controller with oscillator, amplifier, and comparator. The PWM-IC is a core element and delivers the switching waveform to the gate of the IGBT in a stable manner. Display of the DC/DC converter output depends on the IGBT's changes in the threshold voltage and PWM-IC's pulse width. The simulation was conducted by PSIM software, and the hardware of the DC/DC converter was also implemented. It is necessary to study the fact that the output voltage depends on the duty rate of D, and to compare the output of experimental result with the theory and the simulation.
Korea is an industrial country that overspends energy and has a policy that is more focused on a supply side. When an urban developmental program is to set up, surveys are carried out only with the respect to electricity, telecommunication, gas, and heating sources. Based on the existing survey results, the problems related to the supply side are being dealt with more importantly and the quantities of those supplies are estimated only by each energy source. The aim of this study is to provide basic information on energy consumption patterns of a diverse comsumer groups including industry, transportation, commerce, public and household to plan diverse energy policies. Through this basic information, it may be possible to analyze the energy consumption pattern by each consumer group and provide data for setting up efficient energy policies by the government. The energy consumption map that are analyzed and developed by the data obtained from Busan municipal area will be deposited and used as a part of the national energy statistics.
