Image morphing deals with the metamorphosis of one image into another. The field morphing depends on the manual work for most of the process, where a user has to designate the control lines. It takes time and requires skills to have fine quality results. It is an object of this paper to propose a method capable of realizing the semi-automation of field morphing using adaptive vertex correspondence based on image segmentation. The adaptive vertex correspondence process efficiently generates a pair of control lines by adaptively selecting reference partial contours based on the number of vertices that are included in the partial contour of the source morphing object and in the partial contour of the destination morphing object, in the pair of the partial contour designated by external control points through user input. The proposed method generates visually fluid morphs and warps with an easy-to-use interface. According to the proposed method, a user can shorten the time to set control lines and even an unskilled user can obtain natural morphing results as he or she designates a small number of external control points.
In this paper, 3D sound rendering using multichannel speakers is studied. Virtual 3D sound technology has mainly been researched with binaural system. The conventional binaural sound systems reproduce the desired sound at two arbitrary points using two speakers in 3DD space. However, it is hard to implement the localization of virtual source at back/front and top/below positions because the HRTF of an individual is unique just like the fingerprint. Most of all, the HRTF is highly sensitive to the elevation change. Multichannel sound systems have mainly been used to reproduce the sound field picked up over a certain volume rather than at specific points. Moreover, multichannel speakers arranged in 3-D space produce a much better performance of ...

Leaks in underground pipelines can cause social, environmental and economical problems. One of relevant countermeasures against leaks is to find and repair of leak points of the pipes. Leak noise is a good source to identify the location of leak points of the pipelines. Although there have been several methods to detect the leak location with leak noise, such as listening rods, hydrophones or ground microphones, they have not been so efficient tools. In this paper, accelermeters aroused to detect leak locations which could provide an easier and more efficient method. Filtering, signal processing and algorithm of raw input data from sensors for the detection of leak location are described. A 120m-long and a 70m-long experimental pipeline systems are installed and the results with the systems show that the algorithm with the accelerometers offers accurate pinpointing for leaks location detection. Theoretical analysis of sound wave propagation speed of water in underground pipes, which is critically important in leak locating, is also described.

This study exmines an assessment of research parks in developed countries, focusing on points of quantitative and qualitative information on the parks described. including the impetus for their development; their corporate structures/relationships to the universities; their stage of development ; their research emphasis; their source of funding. Also a similar assessment has been made for the research parks developed and planned in Korea. It has been found that the research park in Korea is very requsite in many points of view but problematic issue. Based on these analysis, it is suggested that a proper model of research park in Korea is small size and university initiatives. In developing research parks in Korea, emphasis has been made mainly on incubation of start-up high technology companies, but emphasis should be made equally on advancement of existing technology for industries.

The main source of transverse vibration of a conveyor belt is frictional contact between pulley and belt. Also, environmental characteristics such as natural dampers and springs affect natural frequencies, stability and bifurcation points of system. These phenomena can be modeled by a small velocity fluctuation about mean velocity. Also, viscoelastic foundation can be modeled as the dampers and springs with continuous characteristics. In this study, non-linear vibration of a conveyor belt supported partially by a distributed viscoelastic foundation is investigated. Perturbation method is applied to obtain a closed form analytic solutions. Finally, numerical simulations are presented to show stiffness, damping coefficient, foundation length, non-linearity and mean velocity effects on location of bifurcation points, natural frequencies and stability of solutions.
Purpose - The development and implementation of OSS (Open Source Software) led to a dramatic change in corporate IT infrastructure, from system server to smart phone, because the performance, reliability, and security functions of OSS are comparable to those of commercial software. Today, OSS has become an indispensable tool to cope with the competitive business environment and the constantly-evolving IT environment. However, the use of OSS is insufficient in small and medium-sized companies and software houses. This study examines the need for OSS Intermediaries in the Software Distribution Channel. It is expected that the role of the OSS Intermediary will be reduced with the improvement of the distribution process. The purpose of this research is to prove that OSS Intermediaries increase the efficiency of the software distribution market. Research design, Data, and Methodology - This study presents the analysis of data gathered online to determine the extent of the impact of the intermediaries on the OSS market. Data was collected using an online survey, conducted by building a personal search robot (web crawler). The survey period lasted 9 days during which a total of 233,021 data points were gathered from sourceforge.net and Apple's App store, the two most popular software intermediaries in the world. The data collected was analyzed using Google's Motion Chart. Results - The study found that, beginning 2006, the production of OSS in the Sourceforge.net increased rapidly across the board, but in the second half of 2009, it dropped sharply. There are many events that can explain this causality; however, we found an appropriate event to explain the effect. It was seen that during the same period of time, the monthly production of OSS in the App store was increasing quickly. The App store showed a contrasting trend to software production. Our follow-up analysis suggests that appropriate intermediaries like App store can enlarge the OSS market. The increase was caused by the appearance of B2C software intermediaries like App store. The results imply that OSS intermediaries can accelerate OSS software distribution, while development of a better online market is critical for corporate users. Conclusion - In this study, we analyzed 233,021 data points on the online software marketplace at Sourceforge.net. It indicates that OSS Intermediaries are needed in the software distribution market for its vitality. It is also critical that OSS intermediaries should satisfy certain qualifications to play a key role as market makers. This study has several interesting implications. One implication of this research is that the OSS intermediary should make an effort to create a complementary relationship between OSS and Proprietary Software. The second implication is that the OSS intermediary must possess a business model that shares the benefits with all the participants (developer, intermediary, and users). The third implication is that the intermediary provides an OSS of high quality like proprietary software with a high level of complexity. Thus, it is worthwhile to examine this study, which proves that the open source software intermediaries are essential in the software distribution channel.
Recently, many researches have been done to solve the challenging problem of Blind Source Separation (BSS) problems in the underdetermined cases, and the “Two-step” method is widely used, which estimates the mixing matrix first and then extracts the sources. To estimate the mixing matrix, conventional algorithms such as Single-Source-Points (SSPs) detection only exploits the sparsity of original signals. This paper proposes a new underdetermined mixing matrix estimation method for time-delayed mixtures based on the receiver prior exploitation. The prior information is extracted from the specific structure of the complex-valued mixing matrix, which is used to derive a special criterion to determine the SSPs. Moreover, after selecting the SSPs, Agglomerative Hierarchical Clustering (AHC) is used to automaticly cluster, suppress, and estimate all the elements of mixing matrix. Finally, a convex-model based subspace method is applied for signal separation. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can estimate the mixing matrix and extract the original source signals with higher accuracy especially in low SNR environments, and does not need the number of sources before hand, which is more reliable in the real non-cooperative environment.
This paper presents a neural network based adaptive dead-time compensation strategy for an inverter fed permanent magnet synchronous motor drive. The neural network is used for identifying the dead-time compensation time (DTCT) that includes an equivalent dead-time, turn-on/off time and on-state voltage components of the voltage source inverter. In order to train the neural network, desired DTCTs for eight operating points are prepared as training data. The trained neural network can identify a desired DTCT for any operating point because it has the capability of the interpolation. The accuracy of the identified DTCT is experimentally confirmed by comparing the calculated active power with a measured one.
The paper presents controller optimization algorithm for a 12-pulse voltage source converter (VSC) based high voltage direct current (HVDC) system. To get an optimum algorithm, three methods namely conventional-Zeigler-Nichols, linear-golden section search (GSS) and stochastic-particle swarm optimization (PSO) are applied to control of 12 pulse VSC based HVDC system and simulation results are presented to show the best among the three. The performance results are obtained under various dynamic conditions such as load perturbation, non-linear load condition, and voltage sag, tapped load fault at points-of-common coupling (PCC) and single-line-to ground (SLG) fault at input AC mains. The conventional GSS and PSO algorithm are modified to enhance their performances under dynamic conditions. The results of this study show that modified particle swarm optimization provides the best results in terms of quick response to the dynamic conditions as compared to other optimization methods.
