  • The DOA(Direction Of Arrival) estimation to select a best beam for receiving a particular signal in switched beam antenna systems, and to shape the optimal beam in adaptive array antenna systems, is typically performed under the assumption that the target user motion is almost negligible. In this paper, we model the user as the time-varying source and adopt the LPA(Local Polynomial Approximation) tracking algorithm, proposed by Katkovnik, to solve the time-varying DOA estimation problem. Then, we compare the power spectrum functions between the LPA beamformer and the conventional beamformer, also, the normalized SNRs of each beamformer. The results show that the LPA beamformer is robuster than the conventional beamformer in tine-varying environments. In addition, in case of the conventional beamformer, more array elements give rise to more degradation in the aspect of SNR.

  • A numerical simulation is carried out on the directiveity synthesis of ultrasonic transducers by point source array. Directive method with combined LMS(Least-Mean-Square) method is practiced by means of a iterative method to realize the desired directivity. The directiviey of quasi-ideal beam with a beam width and a directive arbitrary specified was chosen. On the numerical resut, Proposed algorithm shows higher speed of clculating simulation than that of LMS method, and make adaptive control, which enables the desired directivity. Numerical simulations are carried out by PC(CPU:80486 DX2, RAM 16Mbyte).

  • In this paper, we propose a new synthetic aperture focusing scheme for improving the lateral resolution which is one of the most important factors determining the quality of ultrasound imaging. The proposed scheme enables full round-trip dynamic focusing with approximately limited property. This properties are obtained through transmitting plane waves of which the traveling angle varies with the receive subaperture position, as opposed to stepping the spherical wave source across an array in other synthetic aperture focusing schemes, and employing dynamic focusing in receive. In this paper, the properties of the proposed scheme is analyzed in which a hypothetical infinite line source is used to transmit the plane waves and verified through computer simulation results. Also, we show that the proposed scheme is realizable with an array transducer with a finite aperture size. In summary, it is shown through comparison between the field contours of the proposed scheme and the conventional scheme that the proposed scheme can improve greatly the lateral resolution of ultrasound imaging.

  • To develop tera-bit level SONOS flash memories, SONOS unit memory and 64 bit flash arrays are fabricated. The unit cells have both channel length and width of 30nm. The NAND & NOR arrays are fabricated on SOI wafer and patterned by E-beam. The unit cells represent good write/erase characteristics and reliability characteristics. SSL-NOR array have normal write/erase operation. These researches are leading the realization of Tera-bit level non-volatile nano flash memory.

  • Pressure distribution is measured by way microphones to identify noise sources in the space. For example, beam-forming method or acoustic holography use phase information to identify the source. Therefore, the phase is significant information to correctly identify the source position. However, due to the microphone characteristics and measuring systems, measured signals always have errors, which make the identification difficult. Therefore, phase calibration of microphones is needed. Duct and speaker systems are generally used as calibrators. Acoustic characteristics of the calibrator are, of course, functions of many Parameters of the system: i.e. duct size, frequency, and microphone spacing. In this paper, design parameters which effect on the performance and size of the calibrators are considered. Then the parameters would be applied to design and real product of the phase-calibrator.

  • In this study, the underwater acoustic images were obtained by ultrasonicwave. The experiment was performed in the anechoic watertank, using a passive sonar array for one and two sound source respectively by X-Y scanning technique. The receiving array was consist of 8 disc type transducers with 1.5cm diameter at 25KHz resonance frequency. The scanned data were processed by the FORTRAN IV algorithm for the reconstruction of image, and the image had some noise due to the surface reflected waves. As the result, it was found that the acoustic imaging by electrical deflection and dynamic focusing technique is applicable to SONAR with the suppression of surface reflected wave.

  • The Minimum-Norm Least-Square(MNLS) approach based on lead field theory is an useful method to find an unique inverse solution for the measured magnetic field. The lead field depends on head geometry and location of sources and sensors. So, optimization of sensor array location is important issue for MNLS estimation. In this paper, we present an investigation for the optimization of sensor array location in computer simulation.

  • In this paper, a study of advanced sound source localization is conducted by eliminating the noise of the sound source using the discrete wavelet transform. And experiments are conducted to evaluate the performance of the proposed system that the mobile robot follows sound source stably. In addition, we compare the position estimation performance by applying a discrete wavelet transform to improve the reliability of the sound signal. The experimental results reveal that the de-nosing filter which removes the noise component in sound source can make the performance of position estimation more precisely and help the mobile robot distinguish the objective sound source clearly.
