The channel level difference (CLD) is a main parameter in the reference model 0 (RM0) for MPEG Surround. Nevertheless, the CLD quantization method in the RM0 has problems such as the lack of theoretical background and inappropriate quantization levels. In this letter, a new CLD quantization method is proposed based on the virtual source location information which has strength in the quantization process. From experimental results, it is confirmed that the proposed scheme greatly reduces the quantization distortions measured in dB and degrees without any additional complexity.

For the mold die sticking mechanism, the major explanation is that the silica as a filler in EMC (epoxy molding compound) wears die surface to be roughened, which results in increase of adhesion strength. As the sticking behavior, however, showed strong dependency on the EMC models based on the experimental results from different semiconductor manufacturers, chemisorption or acid-base interaction is apt to be also functioning as major mechanisms. In this investigation, the plasma source ion implantation (PSII) using $O_2, N_2$, and $CF_4$ modifies sample surface to form a new dense layer and improve surface hardness, and change metal surface condition from hydrophilic to hydrophobic or vice versa. Through surface energy quantification by measuring contact angle and surface ion coupling state analysis by Auger, major governing mechanism for sticking issue was figured out to be a complex of mechanical and chemical factors.
This paper investigates psychological differences between constructors and interpreters of causal maps. This paper argues that dissipation effects and dilution effects applies to those who are to interpret causal maps not to those who construct them. Dissipation effects are psychological tendency that people perceive causal effect as weak as the number of causal links increases. Dilution effects occur when people undervalue the strength of causal relation as the number of causal variables increases. Experimental results show that concentration effects opposite to the dissipation effects and dilution effects explain more correctly the perception of constructors of causal maps. This paper points out that this asymmetric psychological tendencies between constructors and interpreters of causal maps is the psychological source of the communication problems between systems thinkers and their clients.
Though the research and the development in the field of machine tool was focused on high precision and high speed machine these days, traditional gear reduction device has been used to increase the cutting force which was transmitted from power source, motor In this study, analysis of 2 step gear reducer used in machining center spindle was carried out by using APM WinMachine which is commercial software for the analysis of machine element and system. For the analysis of this device, first of all, the analysis of power source and the transmitting of it were carried out. Then, machine elements like gear, shaft, bearing, and the forth, was analyzed in the view point of life time, static strength, stiffness, fatigue failure, etc. Consequently, we can estimate them and introduce new idea of the design modification of reduction device by this study.
We employ a three-dimensional indirect boundary element method (BEM) to simulate temperature change around an underground liquefied natural gas storage cavern. The indirect BEM (IBEM) uses fictitious heat source strength on boundary elements as basic variables which are solved from equations of boundary conditions and then used to compute the temperature change at other points in the considered problem domain. The IBEM requires evaluation of singular integration for temperature change due to heat conduction from a constant heat source on a planar (triangular) region. The singularity can be eliminated by a semi-analytical integration scheme. However, it is found that the semi-analytical integration scheme yields sharp temperature gradient for points close to vertices of triangle. This affects the accuracy of heat flux, if they are evaluated by finite difference method at these points. This difficulty can be overcome by a combination of using a direct numerical integration for these points and the semi-analytical scheme for other points distance away from the vertices. The IBEM and the hybrid integration scheme have been verified with an analytic solution and then used to the application of the underground storage.

In this paper, achieved rise temperature distribution about degradation phenomenon of 24 MVA distribution cast resin transformer using CFD(Computational Fluid Dynamics). Usually, life of transformer is depended on temperature distribution of specification region than thermal special quality of transformer interior. Specially, life of transformer by decline of dielectric strength decreases rapidly in case rise by strangeness transformer interior hot spot temperature value permits. Because calculating high-voltage(HV) winding and low-voltage(LV) winding of cast resin transformer and Joule's loss of core for improvement these life, forecasted heat source, and HV winding and LV winding of cast transformer rise temperature distribution of core for supply of electric power and temperature distribution of highest point on the basis of the results. Also, calculated temperature rise limit of cast resin transformer and permission maximum temperature using analysis by electromagnetic heat source. Calculated and forecasted rise temperature distribution by heat source of thermal analysis with calculated result.

The equivalent source method is used to calculate the internal pressure field for an enclosure which can have arbitrary boundary conditions and may include internal objects which scatter the sound. Some of the equivalent positions are chosen to be the same as the first order images of the source inside the enclosure, some are positioned on a spherical surface some distance outside the enclosure. The normal velocity on the surfaces of the enclosure walls is evaluated at a larger number of positions than there are equivalent sources. The sum of the squared difference between this velocity and the expected is minimized by adjusting the strength of the equivalent sources. The convergence of this method is checked by evaluating the velocity error at a larger number of monitoring positions. Example results are presented for various numbers of sources and evaluation points. The results showed that in general the more equivalent sources increased the accuracy of the sound field predictions but the accuracy is not too much sensitive to the numbers of evaluation points.

Soft starters are used with large induction motors in blowers, fans, pumps and the crane hoist drives. AC voltage controllers are used as soft starters in induction motors for starting and to adjust its speed. Soft-starter starting system uses phase control method of input electric source through the setting of the thyristor(SCR) firing angle ${\alpha}$, and it can control input electric source stably and continuously from beginning of starting to ending of starting. In this paper, it is verified that power stack of high-voltage with SCR series system possesses dielectric strength and input electric source is controlled stably by phase control. Especially, from the driving experimental of proposed soft-starter operating, a smoothing acceleration and inrush current decrease can be achieved by the series SCR trigger.

Fluctuation statistics of scattering strength are not only important because they impact the performance of active sonar systems, but also because they may provide insight into the major scattering process. In this article, analysis of the statistical characteristics of bottom backscattering, measured in shallow water, are presented. The slowly moving experimental sonar was operated at 30kHz to gather data over the bottom. Spatial and temporal correlation functions of the signal amplitudes were measured. The distribution function and probability of false alarm function of the detected envelope of widebeam and narrowbeam signals were measured. An attempt was made to compare the results with existing theoretical models. The result suggests that the statistical characteristics of bottom backscattering fluctuation of moving source is differ from that of fixed source.

Accurate delivery of doses using a high dose rate(HDR) brachytherapy, remote afterloading system(RALS) depends on knowing the strength of the radioactive source at the time of treatment, the precision and consistency of the timer, and the ability of the unit to position the source at the proper dwell location along the applicator. Periodic Quality Assurance(QA) on HDR machines is a part of the standard protocol of any user. The safety of the patient & staff, positional accuracy, temporal accuracy, and dose delivery accuracy are periodically(weekly, quarterly, monthly) estimated using HDR source(Ir-192), treatment planning devices, measurement devices, and overall treatment devices with regard to treatment delivery. The overall measurement results are estimated successfully and assessed its clinical significance. As a result, our HDR brachytherapy units has been very accurate until now. The QA program protocol permits routine clinical use and provides a high confidence level in the accurate operation of HDR units. Therefore, regular QA of HDR brachytherapy is essential for successful treatment.
