Correlations Among Speed of Sound, Broadband Ultrasonic Attenuation, Broadband Ultrasonic Reflection, and Bone Density in Bovine Cancellous Bone

  • Correlations between acoustic properties and bone density have been investigated in bovine cancellous bone. Speed of sound (SOS), broadband ultrasonic attenuation (BUA), and broadband ultrasonic reflection (BUR) were measured in 10 defatted bovine cancellous bone specimens in vitro. SOS showed a significant correlation with the apparent density of the bone. A comparable correlation was observed between BUA and the apparent density. BUR was rather highly correlated with the apparent density. It was shown that BUR had a weak correlation with BUA and a significant correlation with SOS. This indicates that the parameter BUR can provide important information that may not be contained in BUA and SOS and, therefore, can be useful as an alternative diagnostic parameter of osteoporosis. As expected, a linear combination of all three ultrasonic parameters in a multiple regression model resulted in a significant improvement in predicting the apparent bone density.

  • The purpose of this study was investigating the effect of 3D printing technology that changes the speed of sound (SOS) and the broadband ultrasound attenuation (BUA) by controlling the density of the media phantom. We used 3D printers which called additive manufacturing (AM) by using material with polylactic acid (PLA). The inside of the medium phantom was filled crossly with 100%, 90%, 80%, 70%, 60%, and 50% of the material. The ultrasonic instrument measured the SOS and the BUA using a 0.55 MHz ultrasound output in opposing mode with a pair of transducers. As a result, the density of the medium phantoms with the SOS showed very high correlation (r = 0.944), but the SOS showed very low correlation (r = 0.500). It is expecting that the manufacturing and measurement method of the medium phantom using 3D printing technology will be used as basic data for ultrasonic bone mineral density.

도루묵의 체내 임피던스 및 유영자세각 평가 (Estimation of swimming angle and body impedance of sandfish (Arctoscopus japonicus))

  • Density and sound speed contrasts (g and h, respectively), and swimming angle were measured for sandfish (Arctoscopus japonicus) without swimbladder. The density contrast was measured by the volume displacement method while the sound speed contrast was measured by the acoustic measurements of travel time (time-of-flight method). The swimming angle was measured by dividing it into daytime, nighttime, daytime feeding and nighttime feeding. The g was 1.001 to 1.067 with an average (± standard deviation) of 1.032 (± 0.017), and the h was 1.007 to 1.022 with an average (± standard deviation) of 1.015 (± 0.003). The swimming angles (mean ± standard deviation) were 16.8 ± 10.3° during the daytime, 1.9 ± 12.3° during the nighttime, 30.2 ± 12.6° in the daytime feeding and 35.0 ± 13.2° in the nighttime feeding. These results will provide important parameters input to calculate theoretical scattering models for estimating the acoustic target strength of sandfish.

The Resonance Frequency of Sound Channel in Shallow Water a Thermocline

  • In shallow water with a thermocline, the characteristics of sound propagation strongly depend on the signal frequency. When only one of the source and the receiver is above the themocline, it is known that the intensity of the received signal changes largely and almost periodically as the signal frequency varies. This is the so-called channel resonance. By using the ray-mode approach, the formula relating the resonance frequency and the sound speed profile is obtained, and the resonance phenomenon is analyzed. Also this analysis is verified by numerical calculation.

자동차 소음기의 내부 형상이 배기소음과 배기가스에 미치는 영향 (The Influence of exhaust sound and emission by according to automobile muffler inner shapes)

  • This study represents effect to attain to the exhaust gas and the exhaust noise by the inner shapes of automobile muffler, and obtained optimization-data for the inner muffler shapes by the temperature variation of the exhaust gas in muffler. The results of noise show to decrease in order of model-1, 2 and 3 under that the engine speed is 3500 R.P.M and similar values beyond it. CO represented good the model-2 at low engine speed and model-1 at high engine speed. The model-3 was show to tiny variation difference by the variables. HC decrease mostly by increase of the engine speed and expressed low values the model-2 at 3,000 R.P.M and the model-1 at high speed. Wholly, the model-2 expressed stable results. The temperature distributions expressed high distributions by increase of the engine speed, and the model-3 was express most good among three models.

$CO_2$박판 고속용접에서 용접현상 분석과 전류상승기울기의 영향 (Analysis of Welding Phenomena and Effect of Short Circuit Current Rise Slope in the High Speed $CO_2$ Welding of Steel Sheets)

  • In high speed $CO_2$ welding, it has been blown to produce no sound bead with undercut or humping bead. In this study welding phenomena through synchronized high speed camera and output welding voltage and current waveform has been analyzed. For the purpose to improve a welding bead, effect of short circuit current rise slope has been examined. With commercial power source it was produced no sound bead by instantaneous short circuit, long arc period and stubbing at welding speed 2.5mm/min Humping bead or undercut were showed by instantaneous short circuit and long arc period. Also, the weld bead was not formed during the long short circuit period after stubbing start and long arc extinguishment period after wire sticking by failure of arc regeneration, because the droplet was not transferred to weld pool. With increasing short circuit current rise slope the frequency of stubbing was decreased and the normal short circuit rate was increased. A control of short circuit current rise slope was effective factor in high speed welding.

Vehicle-induced aerodynamic loads on highway sound barriers part 2: numerical and theoretical investigation

  • The vehicle-induced aerodynamic loads bring vibrations to some of the highway sound barriers, for they are designed in consideration of natural wind loads only. As references to the previous field experiment, the vehicle-induced aerodynamic loads is investigated by numerical and theoretical methodologies. The numerical results are compared to the experimental one and proved to be available. By analyzing the flow field achieved in the numerical simulation, the potential flow is proved to be the main source of both head and wake impact, so the theoretical model is also validated. The results from the two methodologies show that the shorter vehicle length would produce larger negative pressure peak as the head impact and wake impact overlapping with each other, and together with the fast speed, it would lead to a wake without vortex shedding, which makes the potential hypothesis more accurate. It also proves the expectation in vehicle-induced aerodynamic loads on Highway Sound Barriers Part1: Field Experiment, that max/min pressure is proportional to the square of vehicle speed and inverse square of separation distance.

  • In a high speed train, aluminium extruded panel is widely used in floor, side wall and roof structures for high bending stiffness and weight reduction. However, with some inevitable reasons, aluminium extruded panel shows inferior sound insulation performance compared with the flat panel having same weight. Especially, occurrence of local resonance modes in the particular frequency band, is one of the main reason in the deterioration of the sound insulation performance. Local resonance modes are generated in the structure which consists of periodic unit structure, such as the aluminium extruded panel. The local resonance frequency is determined by the specification of the unit structure. In this study, we predict the local resonance frequency band on the aluminium extruded panel used for the high speed train, and investigate how the design modification in the unit structure influences the local resonance frequency band and panel bending stiffness. The purpose of the study is to provide the design information for the effective unit structure in order to improve the sound insulation performance of the aluminium extruded panel.

불쾌적한 실내 환경에서 쾌적성 향상을 위한 음원서비스 모델링 (Sound Service Modeling for the Improvement of Amenity in Disamenity Environmental Space)

  • In this study, the three sounds effects on subjects due to EEG type, and it researched to find optimal sound to increase their amenity and productivity. EEG and HRV were compared and analyzed in the environmental test room by classifying subjects into two type: A and B. The condition of the environmental test room was in temperature $31[^{\circ}C]$, relative humidity 50[RH%], air current speed 0.02[m/s] and illuminance 1000[lux] with setting up three different sounds which are U type sound, V type sound and Z type sound. The result of this study, at U type sound for A and B type, relative $M{\alpha}$ wave, relative $M{\beta}$ wave and SEF50 were revitalized. Also at Z type sound for A and B type, stress index, fatigue degree and HRT were decreased and SDNN was revitalized. Therefore U type sound is very effective to increase amenity, productivity and concentration, and Z type sound is very effective to decrease stress and fatigue degree.

충돌음 합성에 의한 가상환경의 청각적 인터랙션 디자인 (Auditory Interaction Design By Impact Sound Synthesis for Virtual Environment)

  • 본 논문에서는 객체 간 충돌음과 같이 가상환경의 발생 상황을 전달할 수 있는 중요한 감각 채널 중 하나인 소리를 통해 청각적 인터랙션을 디자인할 수 있는 방법을 제시하였다. 철, 고무, 유리 등 물질별 기본음 샘플에 대해 각각의 고유음을 특징짓는 모드 게인 값의 스케일 변경을 허용함으로써 디자인적 변형이 가능하도록 하고, 충돌 상황에 대한 인지적 속성인 충돌체의 크기, 딱딱한 정도, 접촉면적, 충돌 속도 차이에 의한 충돌음의 변화를 실시간에 재현할 수 있게 하는 계산적 알고리즘을 사용한 방법이다. 소리를 통한 충돌물체의 물질 및 충돌 상황 인지 실험을 통해 제안된 방법이 가상환경 청각적 인터랙션 디자인에 사용될 수 있음을 보였다.
