  • Acoustical imaging has made brilliant progress in the medical science field, and has also made much progress in the nondestructive testing and under water acoustics applications since doctor Dussik brother has studied about possibilities of making images of brain by recording variations in the intensity of ultrasonic beam from head in 1937. In this paper an acoustical image is reconstructed with the power spectra analysed by impulse ultrasound wave generated by electrodynamic transducer(EDT). The EDT generates the impulse ultrasound of 77KHz in center frequency and 120KHz in bandwidth at -20dB by 1200V exciter in this experiment. The impulse ultrasound has the dominant frequency components of 47KHz, 177KHz, 110KHz and 155KHz. The U shape object is adopted in making an acoustical image. The resulted spectral acoustical images are different from the optical view of the U shape object. However the image reconstructed from 110KHz spectrum is very similar to the original optical shape of the object. Even KHz level impulse sound of 70$\mu$sec pulse width is found to be useful in reconstructing acoustical imaging improvement.

  • The paper is to solve the problem of existing audio signal transfer system which has a difficulties of system organization and the increase of additional install cost and unfriendly interior. To solve the existing system, we drew the new audio signal transfer system based on PLC and evaluated it. A transmitter and a receiver were designed using the PLC chip INT5500CS. An audio signal transfer system was configured with a CD player to which audio signals are sent from the transmitter and a speaker connected to the receiver. For performance evaluation of this system, a USBPre external sound card and Smaart Live 5 which is a PC-based sound measuring program were added. As a result of our experiment, the measured signal level is $2{\sim}3$ dB lower than reference signal, latency is 16.69 ms, and the specific character of coherency is bad in high frequency band. Otherwise, this system transmits and receives signals over 90 % in good condition as a result of measuring pink noise, frequency (1 kHz), and phase, magnitude. In view of the result so far achieved, the system designed this study has excellent performance, it resolves defect of existing audio signal transfer system.

  • Experiment of active noise control on supersonic jet noise was conducted by use of microjet injection. The microjets were injected to the shear layer of the main jet through 22 small holes at the lip of a rectangular nozzle. Based on the measurement of farfield sound pressure, it was found that the jet noise was effectively reduced by several dB(in some cases up to 10 dB). The power levels of all measurement points were also reduced by use of microjet injection. The microjet affected not only the broadband noise but also the screech tone noise. The sound pressure level, the frequency of the screech tone, and the structure of the jet could be changed by the microjet. Flow visualization with schlieren technique was also made to observe the effect of microjet on the flow field.

  • This study examined the flow and noise inside a sirocco fan for ventilation as a commercial program. To confirm only the location and power of the noise source, flow analysis was performed with steady state flow analysis. Through flow analysis, the flow was observed in the sirocco fan and the velocity vector. The pressure distribution inside was observed with contours. From the results of steady analysis, the position and size of the noise source could be seen using the 'Curle surface acoustic power' and 'Proudman acoustic power'. The Curle surface acoustic power can be used to observe the noise from the surface. The Proudman acoustic power can be used to detect noise generated in the flow region because the position and size of the noise source generated inside the sirocco fan can be seen only in the steady state. Therefore it is necessary to further analyze the unsteady state to check the frequency of the noise generated. This study provides basic data for improving the performance of the Sirocco fan and reducing the noise.

  • The performance of an acoustic transducer is determined by the effects of many design variables, and mostly the influences of these design variables are not linearly independent of each other. To achieve the optimal performance of an acoustic transducer, we must consider the cross-coupled effects of the design variables. In this study, the variation of the performances of underwater acoustic transducer in relation to its structural variables was analyzed. In addition, the new optimal design scheme of an acoustic transducer that could reflect not only individual but also all the cross-coupled effects of multiple structural variables, and could determine the detailed geometry of the transducer with great efficiency and rapidity was developed. The validation of the new optimal design scheme was verified by applying the optimal structure design of a flextensional transducer which are the most common use for high power underwater acoustic transducer. With the finite element analysis(FEA), we analyzed the variation of the resonance frequency, sound pressure, and working depth of a flextensional transducer in relation to its design variables. Through statistical multiple regression analysis of the results, we derived functional forms of the resonance frequency, sound pressure, and working depth in terms of the design variables. By applying the constrained optimization technique, Sequential Quadratic Programming Method of Phenichny and Danilin(SQP-PD), to the derived function, we designed and verified the optimal structure of the Class IV flextensional transducer that could provide the highest sound pressure level and highest working depth at a given operation frequency of 1 kHz.

  • Recently, the performances of electrical and electronic devices are improving while the sizes are becoming smaller. As sound-generating systems, the two-dimensional speakers have been developed in place of conventional three-dimensional ones. Piezoelectric materials show the mechanical vibrations due to the voltage applied from outside the materials. The early film speakers had a limitations of output power in that it was not easy to make the conducting macromolecular films on the surfaces of the materials due to the internal chemical properties of materials. We have adopted the corona surface treatment in order to improve the output characteristics by increasing the adhesion of the coating material on to the surface of the center material of piezo film. The results showed the improvement of output power in the wider range of operating frequencies.

  • Snoring and obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) are common sleep disordered breathing conditions. Habitual snoring is caused by a vibration of soft tissue of upper airway while breath in sleeping, and obstructive sleep apnea is caused by the repeated obstructions of airflow for a sleeping, specially airflow of pharynx. Researchers have shown that snoring is the most important symptom connected with the obstructive sleep apnea syndrome The treatment is directed toward improving the air flow by various surgical and nonsurgical methods. The current surgical procedures used are uvulopalatopharyngoplasty(UPPP), orthognathic surgery, nasal cavity surgery. Among the nonsurgical methods there are nasal continuous positive air pressure(CPAP), pharmacologic therapy. weight loss in obese patient, oral appliance(sleep splint). Sleep splint brings the mandible forward in order to increase upper airway volume and prevents total upper airway collapse during sleep. However, the precise mechanism of action is not yet completely understood, especially aerodynamic factor. The aim of this study evaluated the effect of conservative treatment of snoring and OSAS by sleep splint through measured aerodynamic change by an aerophone II. We measured a airflow, sound pressure level, duration, mean power from overall airflow by aerophone II mask. The results indicated that on a positive correlation between a decrease in maximum airflow rate and a decrease in maximum sound pressure level, on a negative correlation between a decrease in maximum airflow rate and a increase in duration.

  • Construction work noise has caused much annoyance for a number of dwellers nearby construction field and has become a very serious issue in our living environment. Therefore, practical solutions for reducing construction work noise are highly required in construction field. Practical solutions for the construction work noise, however, are very difficult because of the poorness of basic data and research. Especially, in order to establish a sound insulation plan about pilings work noise that has highly sound pressure level and impactive, it is necessary to investigate the characteristics of construction noise such as pilings work noise, mechanical operating noise, etc. Accordingly, the aim of this study is to get the basic data about construction noise by SDA(Separated Doughnut Auger) method. And in this study, we attempt to survey the characteristics of attenuation and propagation of construction equipment noise and to estimate the power level in pilings work, using SDA method.

  • In this study, a small wind turbine airfoil specialized for national wind condition was designed in order to develop the furling control type HAWT. And then a flow analysis was carried out based on the blade drawing which was designed to characterize of the developed airfoil. The result of the flow analysis showed that the torque on the 3 blades was 180.23N.m. This is equivalent to an output power of 5.66kw and an output efficiency of 0.44. Then we produced and constructed a 3kW - furling control type HAWT by getting the system unit design technology such as the specialized furling control device. By operating this turbine, we could get 3kW of the rated power at a wind speed of 10.5m/s through the ability test. Cut-in wind speed was 2m/s, generator efficiency was 92% at the rated power output. Sound power level was 87.2dB(A). Also we observed that the output power was limited to 10.5m/s with furling system operation.
