An underwater recording system was designed to measure the sound spectra of the underwater noises produced by fishing gears in operation. Recorded were noi~es from three types of fishing gears: an anchovy set net, three anchovy boat seine net and a stern trawlnet. Acoustic analysis were made using a heterodyne analyzer, a digital frequency analyzer and a level recorder. The no;'e produced by the anchovy set net was found in the high frequency region of the onset of ambient noise spectrum with a slope of - 6 dB/octave. Here the ambient noise spectrum is higher, though similar in shape, than Knudsen spectrum, and is attributed to the breaking action of the coastal wave. Measured noise spectra during the fishing operations of the anchovy boat seine nets are attributed to the background noise of the sea in the presence of the fishing vessels. The frequency distribution of the noise was 20~5, 000 Hz in the case of two steel anchovy boat seiners, and 20-3,000 Hz in the case of the wooden anchovy boat seiner. The predominant frequency range was 250~350 Hz and maximum sound pressure level was 122 dB (re $1\muPa$) in the case of the steel boat and ] 17 dB in the case of the wooden boat. The noises produced by the trawl fishing gears are remarkably higher than the background noi~e in the presence of the fishing vessel. The frequency distribution of the noi~e was 20-6,300 Hz. The predominant frequency range was 100~200 Hz and maximum sound pressure level was 137 dB ( re $1\muPa$) . The noise spectra were not so much different from that caused by vibrations of the towing cable and the structure of the ground rope of the trawl net towed in an experimental tank.

Based on air quality monitoring data('89~'97) operated by the Department of Environment, we provide various fundamental statistics for ground ozone. The purpose of this paper are to review the national ambient ozone standard, to study spatial distribution of ozone. Since we, in Korea, calculate average ozone level, to examine the occurrences of ozone level 3 times a day (1~8, 9~16, 17~24 hours), the method does not seem to be scientifically sound comparing to a running average method adapted by the USEPA. When we counted the number of cases with 8-h average O3 level exceeding 60ppb(8-h average standard in Korea)and 80 ppb (that in the U.S.A) and also when we calculated 8-hour average ozone level based on th US method, some regions were classified as non-attainment areas. Especially in Seoul, results of spatial distribution analysis showed that high level ozone over 80 ppb was observed at Kuui-Dong and Pangi-Dong in the eastern part and at Ssangmun-Dong in the northeastern part. Also, occurrences of ozone episode defined as number of days then ozone level exceeding 80 ppb for 3 consecutive hours were extensively reviewed in this paper.
In this paper, we describe a sound source localization(SSL) system which can be applied to mobile robot and automatic control systems. Usually the SSL method finds the Interaural Time Difference, the Interaural Level Difference, and uses the geometrical principle of microphone array. But here we proposed another approach based on the deep neural network to obtain the horizontal directional angle(azimuth) of the sound source. We pick up the sound source signals from the two microphones attached symmetrically on both sides of the robot to imitate the human ears. Here, we use difference of spectral distributions of sounds obtained from two microphones to train the network. We train the network with the data obtained at the multiples of 10 degrees and test with several data obtained at the random degrees. The result shows quite promising validity of our approach.

Room acoustic properties of coupled rooms connected by an aperture has been analyzed using statistical acoustic model based on the diffused sound field assumption, which has limitation in dealing with the parameters such an room geometries and non uniform absorptivity of the boundary surfaces. In order to overcome these difficulties the acoustic diffusion model has been introduced, by which distribution of the acoustic energy density can be analyzed for various shapes and wall absorptivity. In this study acoustic properties of coupled rooms connected by an aperture(e.g. door) is analyzed using acoustic diffusion equation, which is solved numerically. The mean energy densities of two rooms obtained by the diffusion model are compared with those from the statistical model. The results show good agreement for various coupling aperture sizes and absorption coefficients. For a limiting case when the partition wall is substituted by an aperture and the two rooms eventually forms a single room, results of coupled room analysis using diffusion model show good agreement with those of a single room.
The flight vehicles have cavities such as wheel wells and bomb bays. The flow around a cavity is characterized as unsteady flow because of the formation and dissipation of vortices due to the interaction between the freestream shear layer and cavity internal flow, the generation of shock and expansion waves. Resonance phenomena can damage the structures around the cavity and negatively affect aerodynamic performance and stability. The flow field is observed to oscillate in the "shear layer mode" with low aspect ratio. In the present study, numerical analysis was performed for cavity flows by the unsteady compressible three dimensional Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) equations with Wilcox's $\kappa$-$\omega$ turbulence model. The flow field is observed to oscillate in the shear layer mode" with large aspect ratio. Based on the SPL(Sound Pressure Level) analysis of the pressure variation at the cavity trailing edge, the dominant frequency was analyzed and compared with the results of Rossiter's formul. The aero-acoustic wave analyzed with CPD(Correlation of Pressure Distribution).

A centrifugal fan design code was developed and packaged together with iDesignFan/sup TM/ as new models. This code generate centrifugal forward curved and backward curved bladed impeller optimally. It also predicts the aerodynamic performance and the overall sound pressure level of the rotating fan by assuming steady blade loading. The overall sound pressure level is used as an input parameter from the third loop of the designing process to acquire the most silent fan for the given aerodynamic performance parameters. With this kind of inverse design concept used in the code, the period of designing a fan is significantly shortened. A centrifugal fan design code, developed in this study and included in iDesignFan/sup TM/, predicts the aerodynamic performance such as design flow rate and static pressure. The aerodynamic performance in the design and off-design conditions is calculated by using the mean line analysis. For the steady loading calculation, the lift force distribution in a blade is used.
This paper introduces a study for the noise reduction of a range hood for household. Generally, range hoods have a built-in sirocco fan from which harsh noises are generated. Though the harsh noises have low noise level, these kinds of noises make most of the users nervous. For the purpose of noise reduction, in this study, a perforated plate system is installed in the fan housing of range hood. From the experimental results, it is confirmed that the noise level emitted from the range hood was decreased more than 10dB(A) in all 1/3 octave bands due to the effect of noise reduction by perforated plate systems.

The experimental study is carried out to identify the combustion generated noise mechanism in free turbulent jet diffusion flames. Axial mean fluctuating velocities in cold and reacting flow fields were measured using hot-wire anemometer and LDv.The overall sound pressure level and their spectral distribution in far field with and without combustion were also measured in an anechoic chamber. The axial mean velocity is 10-25% faster and turbulent intensities are about 10 to 15% smaller near active reacting zone than those in nonreacting flow fields. And sound pressure level is about 10-20% higher in reacting flow fields. It is also shown that the spectra of the combustion noise has lower frequency characteristics over a broadband spectrum. These results indicate that the combustion noise characteristics in jet diffusion flames are dominated by energy containing large scale eddies and the combusting flow field itself. Scaling laws correlating the gas velocity and heat of combustion show that the acoustic power of the combustion noise is linearly proportional to the 3.8th power of the mean axial velocity rather than 8th power in nonreacting flow fields, and the SPL increases linearly with logarithmic 1/2th power of the heat of combustion.

A high intensity acoustic test facility is constructed at Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI) by 2003. The reverberant chamber of the facility has a volume of 1,228 cubic meters and shall provide an acoustic environment of 152 dB over the frequency range of 25 Hz to 10,000 Hz. The facility consists of a large scaled reverberant chamber, acoustic power generation systems, gases nitrogen supply systems, and acoustic control systems. This paper describes how the basic parameters of a chamber and power generation systems are controlled to meet the requirement of the test. The volume of a reverberant chamber is controlled by the size of test objects and the reverberant characteristics of a chamber. The capacity of acoustic power generation systems is determined by the energy absorption of a chamber and the efficiency of acoustic modulators. Simple math is employed to calculate the required power of acoustic modulators. Moreover, the paper explains how the distribution of sound pressure level at low frequency is checked by analytical and numerical methods.
