Electrically active part of the piezoelectric sound element is a ceramic thin circular disk cemented to a metal base plate (using a type of thermosetting epoxy). The active part is a thin lead zirconate titanate disk (PZT). The piezoelectric sound element is so dimensioned that its basic resonance frequency is approximately if the center of the audible frequency band: This frequency is mainly determined by the geometry and the sort of the metal base plate materials. In this study, four kinds of PZT ceramic and two classes of thin metal base plate were prepared. It is observed that dielectric and pizoelectric properties relate to acoustical properties (particularly sound pressure level).

In this paper, Power Flow Boundary Element Method(PFBEM) is studied as the numerical method for the vibration and sound predictions of complex structures in medium-to-high frequency ranges. NASPFA, the sound analysis software based on PFBEM, is developed and is used for the vibro-acoustic analysis. And also the developed software is used for the prediction of interior and exterior sound fields of vibrating structures and for the analysis of the multi-domain problems. To verify the accuracy, NASPFA is applied to the prediction of the energy distribution in the simple structures, and its results are compared with exact PFA solutions. And various practical vehicle systems are modeled and the distributions of the acoustical energy density are successfully predicted.

In this paper, we introduce noise prediction program of HVAC system to assist low-noisy design of ship's cabin. The developed program calculates sound power levels at HVAC components considering primary and secondary noise generated by fan and duct element, duct element noise attenuation, and duct break-in noise based on the authentic empirical method suggested by NEBB and acoustic power balancing method. Sound pressure level at cabin with or without ceiling system is evaluated by the diffuse-field theory considering diffuser and duct break-out sound powers. Moreover, the program provides intuitive pre- and post-processors using modem GUI functions to help efficient modeling and evaluation of cabin and HVAC component noise. To validate the accuracy and convenience of the program, noise prediction for a HVAC system is demonstrated.

The sound radiation responses of multi-layer composite plates subjected to harmonic mechanical excitation in hygrothermal environment is numerically investigated. A homogenized micromechanical finite element (FE) based on the higher-order mid-plane kinematics replicating quadratic function as well as the through the thickness stretching effect together with the indirect boundary element (IBE) scheme has been first time employed. The isoparametric Lagrangian element (ten degrees of freedom per node) is used for discretization to attain the hygro-thermo-elastic natural frequencies and the modes of the plate via Hamilton's principle. The effective material properties under combined hygrothermal loading are considered via a micromechanical model. An IBE method is then implemented to attain structure-surrounding coupling and the Helmholtz wave equation is solved to compute the sound radiation responses. The effectiveness of the model is tested by converging it with the similar analytical/numerical results as well as the experimentally acquired data. The present scheme is further hold out for solving diverse numerical illustrations. The results revealed the relevance of the current higher-order FE-IBE micromechanical model in realistic estimation of hygro-thermo-acoustic responses. The geometrical parameters, volume fraction of fiber, layup, and support conditions alongside the hygrothermal load is found to have significant influence on the vibroacoustic characteristics.
Predicting the right prosodic elements is a key factor in improving the quality of synthesized speech. Prosodic elements include break, pitch, duration and loudness. Pitch, which is realized by Fundamental Frequency (F0), is the most important element relating to the quality of the synthesized speech. However, the previous method for predicting the F0 appears to reveal some problems. If voiced and unvoiced sounds are not correctly classified, it results in wrong prediction of pitch, wrong unit of triphone in synthesizing the voiced and unvoiced sounds, and the sound of click or vibration. This kind of feature is usual in the case of the transformation from the voiced sound to the unvoiced sound or from the unvoiced sound to the voiced sound. Such problem is not resolved by the method of grammar, and it much influences the synthesized sound. Therefore, to steadily acquire the correct value of pitch, in this paper we propose a new model for predicting and classifying the voiced and unvoiced sounds using the CART tool.

The turbo chiller uses centrifugal compressor, which operates at about 14500 rpm. Due to the high rpm of the impeller, the noise of chiller makes one of the serious problems. The possibility of the sound reduction by using absorbing material is studied in this paper. The generated sound propagates through the duct and then radiates to the outer field. So, the use of sound absorption material inside the duct is one of the effective methods. To study the effect of location of the material, we use Boundary Element Method to analyze the sound field inside the duct system. Numerical study shows the highest sound pressure region is near the elbow of curved duct. From the analysis, it is also shown that the elbow duct is the main radiator of noise and sound absorption treatment of this duct results noise reduction of the highest noise level at BPF and high frequency region.
This paper proposes a robot hand for a violin-playing robot and introduces a newly developed robot finger. The proposed robot hand acts as the left hand of the violin-playing robot system. The violin fingering plays an important role in determining the tone or sound when the violin is being played. Among the diverse types of violin fingering playing, it is not possible to produce vibrato with simple position control. Therefore, we newly designed a three-axis load cell for force control, which is mounted at the end of the robot finger. Noise is calculated through an analysis of the resistance difference across the strain gauge attached to the proposed three-axis load cell. In order to ensure the stability of the three-axis load cell by analyzing the stress distribution, the strain generated in the load cell is also verified through a finite element analysis. A sound rating quality system previously developed by the authors is used to compare and analyze the sound quality of the fourth-octave C-note played by a human violinist and the proposed robot finger.

The characteristics of noise and vibration by a heavy impact source was studied. The triggering method was used for increasing the reliability and stability to measure the level of sound pressure. sound intensity and vibration acceleration. A simple finite element model and a rigid body analysis method were suggested to calculate the natural frequencies of the multi-layer floor system. The results show that the resilient materials decrease the natural frequency of the reinforced concrete slab, make a resonance with dominant driving frequency in the low frequency region, and increase the vibration and noise level. A simple finite element model and rigid body models was suggested to calculate the natural frequencies of the floor systems.
Sound reception system is required to detect the sound and the quadrantal direction of the other ship's horn sound, to overcome the effects of enclosed wall for navigation space, functioning as a sound barrier. However, the realized systems can only provide quadrantal information of the other ship. This paper presents a new arrangement of microphones, having geometrically symmetric deployment with the same distances between sensors and the same angles between adjacent sensors with respect to the geometrical center. The sound pressures received at microphones are transformed into the related envelope signals by applying Hilbert transform. The time delays between microphones are estimated by the correlation functions between the derived envelope signals. This envelope base processing mitigates the noises related to the reflection by ship and sea surface. Then, the directional information is easily defined by using the estimated time delays. The suggested method is verified by the generated signals using boundary element method for a small ship model with sea surface wave. The estimated direction is quite similar to the true one and therefore the proposed approach can be used as an efficient sound reception system.

The acoustic characteristics of a direct radiator type loudspeaker has been studied in this paper. The natural modes of the speaker cone vibration analyzed numerically by the finite element method have been verified by comparing them with experimental results. The so-ap-proved finite-element model has been used to calculate the vibration response of the cone excited by the voice coil. The vibration displacement of the speaker cone paper has been converted into the vibration velocity and used as a boundary condition for the acoustic analysis. The frequency characteristics, directivity, and sound pressure distribution of the loudspeaker have been calculated by the boundary element method. The numerical results have been verified by the experiments carried out in an anechoic chamber. The variations of the acoustic characteristics due to the changes of some design parameter values can be examined using the numerical model.
