An Experimental Study on the Measurement of Soot Contamination in A Diesel Engine Oil (디젤 엔진오일 내 Soot 함량 증가에 따른 오염도 측정에 관한 실험적 고찰)

  • New method and device for the on-line measurement of soot concentration in a diesel engine oil are proposed, where the measurement principle is based mainly on attenuated internal total reflection. Various laboratory tests of the detector were performed mainly with carbon black particles of different contamination levels. It was found that the proposed detector could be well used to monitor oil deterioration due to soot contamination. Operational range of the detector was found from 0 to 5 mass percentage of soot content. Test results with water and fuel dilution showed that these effects were not remarkable. However, adsorption of carbon black particles to a measurement surface was considered to be a critical problem in the new detector. Effects of particle deposition onto the interface was experimentally evaluated with the oil temperature and turbulence and discussed throughout this work.

  • Flame Hydrolysis Deposition (FHD) 공정은 SiC1$_4$, GeCl$_4$, POC1$_3$, BCl$_3$ 등의 원료를 사용하여 Si wafer 및 유리기판 위에 silicate soot를 증착하는 방법이며, 증착된 soot는 고온에서 소결과정을 거쳐 B$_2$O$_3$-P$_2$O$_{5}$ -GeO$_2$-SiO$_2$(BPGS)계 유리막으로 형성된다. 유리막의 굴절률은 SiC1$_4$, GeCl$_4$, POC1$_3$, BCl$_3$ 등의 원료 유량을 조절하여 변화가능하며 이를 이용하여 광도파로를 제작할 수 있다 특히 광통신에 사용할 수 있는 광증폭기 등의 능동형 광소자 제작을 위해서는 FHD공정을 통해 형성된 soot에 Er$^{3+}$ 등의 희토류 원소를 첨가하여야 한다. Effect of Temperature on Consolidation of Silica Soot Prepared by Flame Hydrolysis Deposition (FHD법에 의해 형성된 실리카 soot의 고밀화 공정에 미치는 온도의 영향)

  • 화염가수분해증착법에 의해 형성된 $0.1\mu\textrm{m}$크기의 soot를 실리콘 기판위에 형성하여 $1325^{\circ}C$에서 2시간 동안 고밀화과정후 투명한 후막을 얻을 수 있었다. 고밀화 열처리는 탈수과정, 재배열 과정, 그리고 고밀화 과정으로 구성되었다. 고밀화 공정후의 두께 수축률은 초기 soot의 96%정도였으며, 급속한 두께의 감소는 $950^{\circ}C$부터 시작되었으며, 본격적인 고밀화가 시작되는 온도는 $1250^{\circ}C$임을 알 수 있었다. soot의 TGA와 DTA를 이용한 열분석 결과 탈수과정에 의하여 9/wt%의 질량감소와 $1250^{\circ}C$이상에서 인(P)의 증발에 의한 2wt%의 질량감소를 관찰하였다. DTA곡선에서는 $500^{\circ}C$, $570^{\circ}C$. $1258^{\circ}C$에서 흡열반응 피크를 나타내는데, 이는 $B_{2}$$O_{3}$, $P_{2}$$O_{5}$ 등의 도펀트들의 melting과 실리카 입자사이의 기공이 소멸되면서 입자간의 열전도도의 증가에 의해 나타난 것으로 판단된다.

Fabrication of Ti-doped BSG Waveguide Films by Flame Hydrolysis Deposition (불꽃가수분해 증착에 의한 Ti-doped BSG 도파박막의 제작)

  • Ti-doped BSG (borosilicate glass) soot films on the silicone substrate have been deposited in the mixture of $SiCl_{4}$, TMB, $TiCL_{4}$ by flame hydrolysis deposition technique. The soot films are melted to form integrated fine glass films. We can fabricate thick films of serveral $10{\mu}m$ with deposition rate,more than $0.5{\mu}m$/min. Refractive index difference of BSG films are increased to more than 0.3% as function of the amount of Ti dopant. As a result of the process an optical waveguide which is simmilar with dimmension and refractive difference of optical fiber is produced. $BCl_{3}$ is widely used for B dopant, but we abtained the good results by the use of TMB in place of $BCl_{3}$. The melting point of silica soot glass is reduced to $1200^{\circ}C$ increasing B dopant. From FTIR analysis $B_2O_3$ content up to about lOmol% in BSG films. films.

  • The temperature distribution in double-concentric diffusion flames have been investigated experimentally by rapid insertion technique. Using a fine thermocouple and rapid insertion mechanism, the temperature has been measured before soot particles attach the thermocouple junction which can affect the temperature signal by changing the radiation heat loss. For double-concentric diffusion flames, the temperature at the axis is higher than that of normal coflow diffusion flames because of the inverse diffusion flame at the center of the flame. However, it is almost same at the periphery on which the inverse flame does not have an effect.

  • Taguchi methodology has been applied to get an idea about the parameters related to the chemical vapour deposition technique, which influences the formation of semiconducting carbon thin film of a desired band gap. L9 orthogonal array was used for this purpose. The analysis based on Taguchi methodology suggests that amongst the parameters selected, the temperature of pyrolysis significantly controls the magnitude of band gap (46%). Sintering time has a small influence (30%) on the band gap formation and other factors have almost no influence on the band gap formation. Moreover this analysis suggests that lower temperature of pyrolysis (${\leq}$ $750^{\circ}C$) and lower time of sintering (${\leq}$ 1 h) should be preferred to get carbon thin film with the desired band gap of 1.2eV.

Bias-enhanced Nucleation of Diamond in Hot Filament CVD (열필라멘트 CVD에서 전압 인가에 의한 다이아몬드의 핵생성 촉진)

  • The effect of various processing parameters, in particular the substrate and filament temperature, on the nucleation of diamond has been studied for the hot filament CVD process with a negative bias on the substrate. As far as the substrate temperature was maintained around the critical temperature of 73$0^{\circ}C$, the nucleation of diamond increased with increasing filament temperature. The maximum nucleation density of ~ 2$\times$109/$\textrm{cm}^2$ was obtained under the condition of filament temperature of 230$0^{\circ}C$, substrate temperature of 75$0^{\circ}C$, bias voltage of 300V, methane concentration of 20%, and deposition time of 2 hours. This nucleation density is about the same as those obtained in previous investigations. For fixed substrate temperatures, the nucleation density varies up to about 103 times depending on experimental conditions. This result is different from that of Reinke, et al. When the substrate temperature was above 80$0^{\circ}C$, a silkworm~shaped carbon phase was co-deposited with hemispherical microcrystalline diamond, and its amount increased with increasing substrate temperature. The Raman spectrum of the silkworm-shaped carbon was the same as that of graphitic soot. The silkworm-shaped carbon was etched and disappeared under the same as that of graphitic soot. The silkworm-shaped carbon was etched and disappeared under the deposition condition of diamond, implying that it did not affect the nucleation of diamond.

Development of a Photoemission-assisted Plasma-enhanced CVD Process and Its Application to Synthesis of Carbon Thin Films: Diamond, Graphite, Graphene and Diamond-like Carbon

  • We have developed a photoemission-assisted plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PAPE-CVD) [1,2], in which photoelectrons emitting from the substrate surface irradiated with UV light ($h{\nu}$=7.2 eV) from a Xe excimer lamp are utilized as a trigger for generating DC discharge plasma as depicted in Fig. 1. As a result, photoemission-assisted plasma can appear just above the substrate surface with a limited interval between the substrate and the electrode (~10 mm), enabling us to suppress effectively the unintended deposition of soot on the chamber walls, to increase the deposition rate, and to decrease drastically the electric power consumption. In case of the deposition of DLC gate insulator films for the top-gate graphene channel FET, plasma discharge power is reduced down to as low as 0.01W, giving rise to decrease significantly the plasma-induced damage on the graphene channel [3]. In addition, DLC thickness can be precisely controlled in an atomic scale and dielectric constant is also changed from low ${\kappa}$ for the passivation layer to high ${\kappa}$ for the gate insulator. On the other hand, negative electron affinity (NEA) of a hydrogen-terminated diamond surface is attractive and of practical importance for PAPECVD, because the diamond surface under PAPE-CVD with H2-diluted (about 1%) CH4 gas is exposed to a lot of hydrogen radicals and therefore can perform as a high-efficiency electron emitter due to NEA. In fact, we observed a large change of discharge current between with and without hydrogen termination. It is noted that photoelectrons are emitted from the SiO2 (350 nm)/Si interface with 7.2-eV UV light, making it possible to grow few-layer graphene on the thick SiO2 surface with no transition layer of amorphous carbon by means of PAPE-CVD without any metal catalyst.

  • This study investigated the effect of solvent on the fabrication of Ni-free Fe-based alloy nano powders by employing the PWE (pulsed wire evaporation) in liquid and compared the alloy particles fabricated by three different methods (PWE in liquid, PWE in Ar, plasma arc discharge), for high temperature oxidation-resistant metallic porous body for high temperature soot filter system. Three different solvents (ethanol, acetone, distilled water) of liquid were adapted in PWE in liquid process, while X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning microscope (FE-SEM), and transmission electron microscope (TEM) were used to investigate the characteristics of the Fe-Cr-Al nano powders. The alloy powder synthesized by PWE in ethanol has good particle size and no surface oxidation compared to that of distilled water. Since the Fe-based alloy powders, which were fabricated by PWE in Ar and PAD process, showed surface oxidation by TEM analysis, the PWE in ethanol is the best way to fabricate Fe-based alloy nano powder.

Optimization of Lace Tube with Gray Theory and Design of Experiment (회색 관계 이론과 실험계획을 이용한 Lance Tube Nozzle 최적화)

  • As consumption of energy is increasing rapidly, energy saving is emphasized in nowadays. Thermal power plant occupies a large proportion in various type of power plant. Major causes of decreased power generation efficiency on thermal power stations is deposition of fly ash. Soot Blower is a facility to remove the ash which is deposited outside of tube by steam blowing on boiler. Residual stream which caused by lance tube in soot blower cannot be discharged steam effectively in lance tube causes reducing the thickness of lance tube. On the contrary, increasing discharge ratio of steam, lance tube cannot sustain proper pressure to remove ash on tube. This study suggests increasing discharge ratio of steam with proper pressure to remove ash on tube by optimization on shape of lance tube nozzle. To optimize shape of nozzle, discharge ratio and maximum blowing pressure on nozzle is selected as object functions. Diameter of nozzle, distance between nozzles, angle of nozzle and gap between nozzle is selected as design parameters. Then the design of experiment (DOE) with an orthogonal array is performed to analyze the effect of design parameters. And grey relational analysis and analysis of mean (ANOM) is performed to optimize shape of lance tube.
