Angelica dahurica (Umbelliferae) grows in China, Japan, Russia, and Korea. The root of Angelica dahurica has been used as a traditional folk medicine to treat headache and toothache. In this study, the effects of the aqueous extract of Angelica dahurica on acetic acid-induced abdominal pain, carrageenan-induced edema, and thermal hyperalgesia were investigated using mice and rats. The present results showed that the aqueous extract of Angelica dahurica inhibited acetic acidinduced abdominal pain in mice and reduced carrageen-induced edema in rats. The present study showed that the aqueous extract of Angelica dahurica possesses anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects.

The drone market in Korea is growing with a focus on the use of prevention, defense, exploration and surveying, search and rescue, video shooting, and facility management. However, the foreign dependence on drone's core technologies and components is high. Drone-powered countries such as the US and China are expanding the weaponization of drones, which can intensify trade wars between countries, such as strengthening import and export regulations and monopoly. Therefore, Korea should put R & D and localization of core technology, parts, and accessories of next generation drone first. For this, policy research and investment in infrastructure, equipment, and research personnel should be preceded. This study studied the evaluation of investment priorities by infrastructure sector (facility equipment, utilization field, and demand manpower) to foster small drone companies through literature studies. To this end, we expanded and reclassified e isting research, developed investment prioritization indicators through expert group interviews and reviews, derived future uncertainties, and selected investment priorities by infrastructure sector using AHP techniques. Finally, it proposed an infrastructure construction strategy to foster small drone companies in terms of drone development support, utilization support.

This study investigated how Korean drama viewing of chinese people influence their formation of Korea's national image as well as their satisfaction through consumption of Korean products. The direct effect and indirect effect of Korean drama viewing on Korea's national image were focused. The survey data on 105 Chinese citizens in Shanghai was put into the analysis. The study found that 1) Korean drama viewing has a positive effect on consumption satisfaction of korean products; 2) Korean drama viewing does not have any direct effect on Korea's national image; 3) the consumption satisfaction of korean products has an positive effect on Korea's national image; 4) Korean drama viewing has an indirect positive effect on Korea's national image, mediated by consumption satisfaction of Korean products. Theoretical and practical implication were discussed.

Objective : We conducted this study to analyze some of the trends of treatments from the recent Chinese medical journals and contribute them to the oriental medical experiments and clinical research for the future. Methods : By referring to the Chinese medical journals that were published in China from 1999 to March, 2002, we analyzed the effective rates on frequency, methods, medical treatment, and diseases. Result : The average effective rate was 90.93%, which was very high. Lately, there have been no big changes in the methods of treatment. The methods of coordinating stomach-Qi, supplying Yin element, replenishing bone marrow, tonifying essence of life, and removing blood stasis are used by means of reinforcing Qi, producing blood, tonilying spleen, and replenishing the kidney. Conclusions : The decreased in bone marrow and leucopenia, and the side effects of radiotherapy and chemotherapy were more effectively treated when we used Korean oriental medical treatments. In addition, more Korean oriental medical experiments and clinical studies are needed in Korea, in the future.

'The nine chapters on the mathematical art' has dominated the history of Chinese mathematics. It contains 246 problems and their solutions, which fall into nine categories that are firmly based on practical needs. But it has been greatly by improved by the commentary given Liu Hui and it was transformed from arithmetic text to mathematics. The improved book served as important textbook in China but also the East Asian countries for the past 2000 years. Also It is comparable in significance to Euclid's Elements in the West. In the middle of 19th century, Chosun mathematicians Nam Byung Gil(南秉吉) and Lee Sang Hyuk(李尙爀) studied mathematical structures developed in Song(宋) and Yuan(元) eras on top of their early on 'The nine chapters' and 'ShuLiJingYun(數理精蘊)'. Their studies gave rise to a momentum for a prominent development of Choson mathematics in the century. Nam Byung Gil is also commentator on 'The Nine Chapters'. His commentary is 'GuJangSulHae(九章術解)'. This book provides figures and explanations of how the algorithms work. These are very helpful for prospective elementary teachers. We try to plan programs of elementary teacher education on the basis of 'The Nine Chapters' and 'GuJangSulHae'.

Aconiti Kusnezoffii Tuber has been traditionally used to treat the symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis and joint pain. The main constituents are diterpenoid alkaloids such as benzoylmesaconine, benzoylaconine, mesaconitine, aconitine, and hypaconitine. In Korea, Aconiti Kusnezoffii Tuber is officially defined as the tubers of Aconitum kusnezoffii Reichb., A. ciliare Decasisne, and A. triphyllum Nakai. On the other hand, only the tuber of A. kusnezoffii is to be used in China. In order to identify the botanical origin of Aconiti Kusnezoffii Tuber circulated in Korea, we analyzed 24 samples of Aconiti Kusnezoffii Tuber obtained from local markets for comparative DNA analysis. The sequence analysis of nrRNA ITS 1 was useful to distinguish Aconitum species and revealed that the roots of A. karakolicum were circulated in Korean markets without discretion. HPLC quantitative analysis showed that aconitine was detected at the highest amount in A. karakolicum. Authentic diterpenoid alkaloids were coinjected for quantification of aconitine-type ingredients. All data were statistically grouped by Principal Component Analysis (PCA). This study suggests that both molecular and chemical analyses should be utilized for the standardization and the quality control for Aconiti Kusnezoffii Tuber.

The following conclusions are drawn, through studying of referring literature, of contents of the prescription and of clinical applications in Hyungsang Medicine. Insamyangyung-tang(인삼양영탕) was appeared first in Taepunghyemin-whajegugbang(태평혜민화제국방) which was written by Jin and others at Song Dynasty. This prescription is applied to senility and long lasting weakness, little strength of spleen and lung(비폐기허), and insufficiency of blood. The Insamyangyung-tang is composed of medical stuffs which Rhizoma Cnidii is taken out from Sipjiendaebotang and Pericarpium Citri Nobilis, Fructus Schizandrae, Radix Polygalae are added to it. This prescription is used in China up to the present. In korea, according to Donguibogam, Rhizoma Cnidii and Poria are taken out from Sipjiendaebotang and Pericarpium Citri Nobilis, Fructus Schizandrae, Radix Polygalae are added to it, and Ramulus Cinnamomi is changed to Cortex Cinnamomi, and also Radix Ledebouriellae is newly added to it. This is reorganized to fit for Korean physical conditions and to be useful for deficiency of blood, and also to be efficacious for coming and going of chillness and fever and running with sweat due to weakness of Liver. In the point of view of Hyunsang medicine, Insamyangyung-tang is applied to shapes and symptoms as follows : This prescription becomes more efficacious to women than to men. At the age of fifties when liver grows weak it effects a cure. It takes effect to the shape of going easily into the deficiency of blood, that is, to the Hyul Kwa with an oval face. It effects a cure on the man who has wrinkles on the bridge of the nose, who has marks of being choked up on the central area between two brows, or who has distinctive size of eyes and nose. It is efficacious against symptoms which are to be exhausted, to be weak, to lose flesh, to be coming and going of chillness and fever and running with sweat.

Polygalae Radix (PR) from Polygala tenuifolia. (Polygalaceae) is traditionally used in China and Korea, since this herb has a sedative, antiinflammatory, and antibacterial agent. To extend pharmacological actions of PR in the CNS on the basis of its CNS inhibitory effect, the present study examined whether PR has the neuroprotective action against kainic acid (KA) -induced cell death in primarily cultured rat cerebellar granule neurons. PR, over a concentration range of 0.05 to $5{\mu}g/ml$ inhibited KA $(500\;{\mu}M)$-induced neuronal cell death, which was measured by a trypan blue exclusion test and a 3-[4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-y1]-2,5-diphenyl-tetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay. PR $(0.5{\mu}g/ml)$ inhibited glutamate release into medium induced by KA $(500\;{\mu}M)$, which was measured by HPLC. Pretreatment of PR $(0.5{\mu}g/ml)$ inhibited KA $(500\;{\mu}M)$-induced elevation of cytosolic calcium concentration $([Ca^{2+}]_c)$ which was measured by a fluorescent dye, Fura 2-AM, and generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS). These results suggest that PR prevents KA-induced neuronal cell damage in vitro.

The purpose of this study is to analyze Dongkuksipji's Yeamunji, written by Bae Sang-hyun(裴象鉉) in 1855. Dongkuksipji is a kind of encyclopedia. Dongkuksipji's Yeamunji record 137 books written in Goguryeo, Silla, Goryeo, Joseon and China. Yeamunji has its own classification system which includes 15 different topics. But this classification system emphasizes too much some field, such as Chinese classics of Confucianism. Yeamunji contains information on the period of compilation, author, title, and some bibliographic introductions. Although Dongkuksipji's Yeamunji does not have a perfect system for its contents, it is worthy of notice because it is a large catalogue of ancient books compiled by just one person.

The Angelicae dahuricae radix (ADR) has been used a traditional medicine to treat acne, erythema, headache, toothache, sinusitis, colds, and flu in Korea, Japan and China. Here, we report the effect of ADR on compound 48/80-induced ear-swelling and the phorbol myristate acetate (PMA) plus calcium ionophore A23187-induced inflammatory cytokine secretion in the human mast cell line, HMC-1. ADR dose-dependently inhibited the ear-swelling response induced by intradermal injection of compound 48/80, In vitro model, PMA plus A23187 significantly increased interleukin $(IL)-1{\beta}$, IL-8, granulocyte macrophage colony stimulating factor (GM-CSF), and tumor necrosis factor $(TNF)-{\alpha}$ secretion compared with media control. We also show that the increased cytokines $IL-1{\beta}$, IL-8, GM-CSF, and $TNF-{\alpha}$ level was significantly inhibited by treatment of ADR. In addition, ADR partially blocked PMA plus A23187-induced extracelluar signal-regulated kinases phosphorylation. These results suggest that ADR might explain its beneficial effect in the treatment of mast cell-mediated inflammatory diseases.
