The absorption characteristics of water vapor into a LiBr-H$_2$O solution flowing down on finned inclined surfaces are numerically investigated in order to study the absorbing performances of different surface shapes of finned tubes as an absorber element. A three-dimensional numerical model is developed. The momentum, energy, and diffusion equations are solved simultaneously using a finite difference method. In order to obtain the temperature and concentration distributions, the Runge-Kutta and the Successive over relaxation methods are used. The flat, circular, elliptic, and parabolic shapes of the tube surfaces are considered in order to find the optimal surface shapes for absorption. In addition, the effects of the fin intervals and Reynolds numbers are studied. The results show that the absorption mainly happens near the fin tip due to the temperature and concentration gradient, and the absorbing performance of the parabolic surface is better than those of the other surfaces.

KAERI has recently developed the nuclear design code MASTER for the application to reactor physics analyses for pressurized water reactors. Its neutronics model solves the space-time dependent neutron diffusion equations with the advanced nodal methods. The major calculation categories of MASTER consist of microscopic depletion, steady-state and transient solution, xenon dynamics, adjoint solution and pin power and burnup reconstruction. The MASTER validation analyses, which are in progress aiming to submit the Uncertainty Topical Report to KINS in the first half of 1996, include global reactivity calculations and detailed pin-by-pin power distributions as well as in-core detector reaction rate calculations. The objective of this paper is to give an overall description of the CASMO/MASTER code system whose verification results are in details presented in the separate papers.
In the over-the-counter market, option's buyers could have a problem for default risk caused by option's writers. In addition, many participants try to maximize their benefits obviously in investing the financial derivatives. Taking all these circumstances into consideration, we deal with the vulnerable power options under a constant elasticity variance (CEV) model. We derive an analytic pricing formula for the vulnerable power option by using the asymptotic analysis, and then we verify that the analytic formula can be obtained accurately by comparing our solution with Monte-Carlo price. Finally, we examine the effect of CEV on the option price based on the derived solution.
An analytic axial xenon oscillation model was developed for pressurized water reactor analysis. The model employs an equation system for axial difference parameters that was derived from the two-group one-dimensional diffusion equation with control rod modeling and coupled with xenon and iodine balance equations. The spatial distributions of nu, xenon, and iodine were expanded by the Fourier sine series, resulting in cancellation of the flux-xenon coupled non-linearity. An inhomogeneous differential equation system for the axial difference parameters, which gives the relationship between power, iodine and xenon axial differences in the case of control rod movement, was derived and solved analytically. The analytic solution of the axial difference parameters can directly provide with the variation of axial power difference during xenon oscillation. The accuracy of the model is verified by benchmark calculations with one-dimensional reference core calculations.
The unsteady 2D convection and diffusion equation is solved numerically for the real-time simulation of suspended load propagation. The streamlined upwind scheme efficiently reduces numerical oscillations due to the high Peclet number in the convection dominant flow. By using the mixed boundary condition to express the external source terms or externally induced suspended load as a function of time in the algorithm, the model is capable of handling not only continuous load cases but also non-continuous suspended load influx. The suspended load transport modelwas verified using a case study for which an analytical exact solution is available and was applied to the real-time simulation of a suspended load influx case on the Mississippi River. The model algorithm can provide a framework upon which water quality as well as contaminant transport models can be built.

Present study investigates the potential of cassava peel and rubber tree bark for the removal of Cr (VI) from aqueous solution. Removal efficiency of more than 99% was obtained during the kinetic adsorption experiments with dosage of 3.5 g/L for cassava peel and 8 g/L for rubber tree bark. By comparing popular isotherm models and kinetic models for evaluating the kinetics of mass transfer, it was observed that Redlich-Peterson model and Langmuir model fitted well ($R^2$ > 0.99) resulting in maximum adsorption capacity as 79.37 mg/g and 43.86 mg/g for cassava peel and rubber tree bark respectively. Validation of pseudo-second order model and Elovich model indicated the possibility of chemisorption being the rate limiting step. The multi-linearity in the diffusion model was further addressed using multi-sites models (two-site series interface (TSSI) and two-site parallel interface (TSPI) models). Considering the influence of interface properties on the kinetic nature of sorption, TSSI model resulted in low mass transfer rate (5% for cassava peel and 10% for rubber tree bark) compared to TSPI model. The study highlights the employability of two-site sorption model for simultaneous representation of different stages of kinetic sorption for finding the rate-limiting process, compared to the separate equilibrium and kinetic modeling attempts.
A activated carbon (WCAC, waste citrus activated carbon) prepared from an agricultural waste citrus peel material generated in Jeju was utilized for the removal of dimetridazole (DMZ) antibiotics in aqueous solution. The adsorption of DMZ on WCAC was investigated with the change of various parameters such as contact time, dosage of WCAC, particle size of WCAC, temperature, pH, and DMZ concentration. The DMZ adsorption capacity increased with increasing temperature and decreasing particle size. Also it was decreased at less than pH 4 but sustained almost constantly at pH 4 or greater. Isotherm parameters were determined from the Langmuir, Freundlich, Redlich-Peterson and Duinin-Radushkevich (D-R) isotherm models. The isotherm data were best described by the Redlich-Peterson isotherm model. And the adsorption kinetics can be successfully fitted to the pseudo-second-order kinetic model. The results of the intra-particle diffusion model suggested that film diffusion and intra-particle diffusion were occurred simultaneously during the adsorption process. Meanwhile, the thermodynamic parameters indicated that the adsorption reaction of DMZ on WCAC was an endothermic and spontaneous process. The experimental results showed that WCAC is a promising and cheap adsorbent for the removal of DMZ antibiotics.

In this study, the applicability of Hunt's analytical solution for a two-layered leaky aquifer system, which was developed to estimate stream depletion due to the groundwater pumping of the upper shallow aquifer, was evaluated. The 5-year averaged stream depletions were estimated using Hunt's analytical solution for various combinations of hydraulic characteristic values such as transmissivity, storage coefficient of the two aquifers, interlayer leakage coefficient, stream-well distance, hydraulic conductivity of the streambed, and stream width. Through comparison with the numerical solution accurately simulated with a MODFLOW groundwater flow model, the analytical solution derived by regarding the stream width as a point was evaluated. It was found that the error in the stream depletion calculated by the analytical solution can be reduced to less than 0.05 when the stream-well distance is greater than the stream width or when the stream depletion factor (SDF) is more than about 3,000 days. In addition, when the streambed hydraulic conductivity is less than 1 m/d, the hydraulic diffusion coefficient of the lower aquifer layer is less than 100 ㎡/d, the hydraulic diffusion coefficient ratio of the upper and lower aquifer layers is 5 or more, and the leakage coefficient between the layers is less than 0.0004 m/d, the overall analytical solutions were overestimated compared with the numerical solutions.

The Mechanistic model, considering expansion stress, coefficient of diffusion etc. to time, is applied to predict the deterioration of concrete structures of the nuclear power plant(NPP) due to sulfate attack. Mix design for the test was three kinds of specified compressive strength 385, 280 and $210kgf/cm^2$ which are used to construct NPPs and cement was type I and V. The immersion test was performed with 10% $Na_2SO_4$ solution to cement type and strength for a year. The coefficient of diffusion on each concrete mix is calculated based on the results of immersion test, and it is used for predicting the sulfate attack of the concrete structures of NPP. The coefficient of diffusion of the target concrete ranged $0.5763{\sim}3.9002{\times}10^{-12}m^2/sec.$, and the sulfate attack rate of concrete structures of the NPP was predicted as 0.1~7.1 mm/year.
The batch experiments by response surface methodology (RSM) have been applied to investigate the influences of operating parameters such as temperature, initial concentration, contact time and adsorbent dosage on 2,4-dichlorophenol (2,4-DCP) adsorption with an activated carbon prepared from waste citrus peel (WCAC). Regression equation formulated for the 2,4-DCP adsorption was represented as a function of response variables. Adequacy of the model was tested by the correlation between experimental and predicted values of the response. A fairly high value of $R^2$ (0.9921) indicated that most of the data variation was explained by the regression model. The significance of independent variables and their interactions were tested by the analysis of variance (ANOVA) and t-test statistics. These results showed that the model used to fit response variables was significant and adequate to represent the relationship between the response and the independent variables. The kinetics and isotherm experiment data can be well described with the pseudo-second order model and the Langmuir isotherm model, respectively. The maximum adsorption capacity of 2,4-DCP on WCAC calculated from the Langmuir isotherm model was 345.49 mg/g. The rate controlling mechanism study revealed that film diffusion and intraparticle diffusion were simultaneously occurring during the adsorption process. The thermodynamic parameters indicated that the adsorption reaction of 2,4-DCP on WCAC was an endothermic and spontaneous process.
