  • The characteristics of defect correction method are discussed in a sample heat conduction problem showing the numerical solution of the error correction equation can predict the error of the numerical solution of the original governing equation. A way of using defect correction method combined with the existing algorithm for the incompressible fluid flow, is proposed and subsequently tested for the driven square cavity problem. The error correction equations for the continuity equation and the momentum equations are considered to estimate the errors of the numerical solutions of the original governing equations. With this new approach, better velocity and pressure fields can be obtained by correcting the original numerical solutions using the estimated errors. These calculated errors also can be used to estimate the orders of magnitude of the errors of the original numerical solutions.

  • A gas-fired 4RT absorption heat pump was designed as an air-conditioner for domestic use during the summer. The absorption heat pump is air-cooled. double-effect, $LiBr-H_{2}O$ system with parallel flow type. The performance of the absorption heat pump in the cooling mode of operation was investigated through cycle modeling and simulation to obtain the system characteristics with parameter changes. System parameters considered in this analysis were the inlet temperature of cooling air to the absorber, the working solution concentrations, the ratio of the amount of the weak solution from the absorber, and the LTD's of each heat exchange component. The optimum designs and operating conditions were determined based on the operating constraints and the coefficient of performance.

  • This paper considers a single machine nonpreemptive scheduling problem with a given common due date. In the problem, the optimal job sequence is sought to minimize the sum of earliness/tardiness and flow time measures in the situation where all jobs are available at time zero, and weights per unit length of earliness/tardiness and flow time are V and W, respectively. Some dominant solution properties are characterized to deriva both an optimal starting time for an arbitrary sequence and sequence improvement rules. The optimal schedule is found to the case W .geq. V/. By the way, it is difficult to find the optimal schedule for the case W < V. Therefore, the derived properties are put on together to construct a heuristic solution algorithm for the case W < V, and its effectiveness is rated at the mean relative error of about 3% on randomly generated numerical problems.

  • SThis paper proposes a new dispatch scheduling algorithm in interconnected regional system operations. The dispatch scheduling formulated as mixed integer non-linear programming (MINLP) problem can efficiently be computed by generalized Benders decomposition (GBD) algorithm. GBD guarantees adequate computation speed and solution convergency since it decomposes a primal problem into a master problem and subproblems for simplicity. In addition, the inter-temporal optimal power flow (OPF) subproblem of the dispatch scheduling problem is comprised of various variables and constraints considering time-continuity and it makes the inter-temporal OPF complex due to increased dimensions of the optimization problem. In this paper, regional decomposition technique based on auxiliary problem principle (APP) algorithm is introduced to obtain efficient inter-temporal OPF solution through the parallel implementation. In addition, it can find the most economic dispatch schedule incorporating power transaction without private information open. Therefore, it can be expanded as an efficient dispatch scheduling model for interconnected system operation.

  • Bunker C fuel oil may be taken as a conc. solution of asphalt as a solute. It may be assumpt that there will be unalogical relationship between cone. solution and solute in regological behavior. Investigation was carried out to fiud out the -opitimum preheating temperature. The following results were obtained: the colloidal structure bunker C fuel oil undergoes a transition at around the softening point of the solute asphalt: and the flow charactor changes from non-Newtonian flow to Newtonian as well as its activation energy is memarkably reduced at around softening point of the solute asphalt for the purpose of the improvement of flow charater of Bunker C fuel oil, the preheating must be done above the softening point of a solute asphalt.

  • The optimal solution of quadratic assignment problem (QAP) cannot get done in polynomial time. This problem is called by NP-complete problem. Therefore the meta-heuristic techniques are applied to this problem to get the approximated solution within polynomial time. This paper proposes an algorithm for a random type QAP, in which the instance of two nodes are arbitrary. The proposed algorithm employs what is coined as a max flow-min distance rule by which the maximum flow node is assigned to the minimum distance node. When applied to the random type QAP, the proposed algorithm has been found to obtain optimal solutions superior to those of the genetic algorithm.

  • Recent developments in dilute polymer solution rheology are reviewed, and placed within the context of the general goals of predicting the complex flow of complex fluids. In particular, the interplay between the use of polymer kinetic theory and continuum mechanics to advance the microscopic and the macroscopic description, respectively, of dilute polymer solution rheology is delineated. The insight that can be gained into the origins of the high Weissenberg number problem through an analysis of the configurational changes undergone by a single molecule at various locations in the flow domain is discussed in the context of flow around a cylinder confined between flat plates. The significant role played by hydrodynamic interactions as the source of much of the richness of the observed rheological behaviour of dilute polymer solutions is highlighted, and the methods by which this phenomenon can be incorporated into a macroscopic description through the use of closure approximations and multi scale simulations is discussed.

  • A high-order accurate Euler flow solver based on a discontinuous Galerkin finite-element method has been developed for the numerical simulations of blade-vortex interaction phenomena on unstructured meshes. A free vortex in freestream was investigated to assess the vortex-preserving property and the accuracy of the present flow solver. Blade-vortex interaction problems in subsonic and transonic freestreams were simulated by adopting a multi-level solution-adaptive dynamic mesh refinement/coarsening technique. The results were compared with those of other numerical and experimental methods. It was shown that the present discontinuous Galerkin flow solver can preserve the vortex structure for significantly longer vortex convection time and can accurately capture the complex unsteady blade-vortex interaction flows, including generation and propagation of acoustic waves.
