  • We have investigated microwave dielectric properties of TiO$_{2}$ added (Pb$_{1-x}$Ca$_{x}$)ZrO$_{3}$ Ceramics with x=0.33, 0.35, and 0.37 sintered at 1400$^{\circ}C$ for 2 h. For additions of up to 3wt% of TiO$_{2}$ in (Pb$_{0.63}$ Ca$_{0.37}$)ZrO$_{3}$ (x=0.37), TiO$_{2}$ was completely soluble in (Pb, Ca)ZrO3 phase and did not affect the grain size of ceramics. Dielectric constant and temperature coefficient of resonant frequency increased due to the formation of solid solution, whereas Q value decreased linearly as TiO$_{2}$ increased up to 1 wt%. However, the dielectric loss was very high as TiO$_{2}$ exceeded 2 wt%. It was also shown that as Ca ion content in 0.5 wt% TiO$_{2}$ added (Pb$_{1-x}$,Ca$_{x}$)ZrO$_{3}$ decreased from x=0.37 to x=0.33, dielectric constant increased and Q value decreased.

  • In the oligomerization of p-aminophenol under the catalytic action of the metallic complexes, the effects of the ligands are studied. When the initial velocity of $O_2$ uptake at pH 8 using Fe(Ⅲ) as the central metal and N-hydroxylethylethylenediaminetriacetic acid (HEDTA), ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA), diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid (DTPA), 1,2-cyclohexanediaminetetraacetic acid(CyDTA) as the ligands respectively are compared, the velocities are as the following order: HEDTA > EDTA > DTPA > CyDTA. Further when the effect of the ligands, nitrilotriacetic acid (NTA), HEDTA, EDTA, and DTPA, on the yields of oligomers are compared, the result shows as the following order: NTA > HEDTA > EDTA > DTPA. These are nearly reverse order of the stability constants of the complexes. In order to determine the composition of the mixed complexes at the initial step, the method of continuous variation is used, and it is found that the composition ratio of Fe-EDTA complex to monomer in the mixed complexes is one at pH 5-8 range. It is also found that at pH 9 or in the more alkaline range, side reactions occur to form water soluble dimer of quinone type and the catalytic action of the metallic complex markedly decreases on account of the hydrolysis of the central metal by the $OH^-$ ion.

  • In the aquatic fungus Allomyces macrogynus the effects of $Ca^{2+}$ and cAMP on the intracellular signal transduction of zoospore germination were studied using in vitro protein phosphorylation assay system. An endogenously phosphorylated protein (p50) having molecular weight of 50 kDa on SDS-PAGE was found in soluble fractions of both zoospore and mycelium. In zoospore extract, the endogenous phosphorylation of p50 was weak without any effectors, but was enhanced by $Ca^{2+}$ and even more by cAMP. Phosphorylation of the same protein in mycelial extract was high only in the absence of cAMP. Irrespective of the presence of $Ca^{2+}$ and cAMP, its phosphorylation was antagonistically suppressed in assay of combined zoospore and mycelial extracts. These results suggest that p50 is interconvertible in phosphorylation/dephosphorylation as a novel protein involved in germination of A. macrogynus. The antagonistic effect of cAMP to the phosphorylation of p50s from different developmental stages may be important in the regulation of cellular differentiation.

  • In order to elucidate a mechanism responsible for the development of the odor characteristics of cooked, desirable-flavored shellfish, oysters were extracted using various solvents and the resulting extracts were evaluated organoleptically after cooking. The 80% aqueous methanol extract was found to produce a desirable cooked flavor. This oyster extract was fractionated using ion-exchange column chromatography and dialysis, and each of the fractions was subjected to cooking, followed by organoleptic evaluation. The outer dialysate fraction such as acidic and amphoteric water-soluble fractions produced a cooked oyster flavor. The volatile flavor compounds identified from cooked oyster included 29 hydrocarbons, 20 alcohols, 16 acids, 12 aldehydes, nine nitrogen-containing aromatic compounds, eight ketones, five furans, three esters, three phenols, and one benzene.

  • In order to enzymatically produce chitooligosaccharide using the crude enzyme preparation from Bacillus cereus D-11, we first studied the optimal reaction conditions. It was found that the optimal temperature for hydrolysis of chitosan was $55^{\circ}C$. The ratio of enzyme/substrate should not be lower than 0.13 U/mg in the reaction mixture. The enzyme activity was stable below $50^{\circ}C$. The products of enzymatic reaction were analyzed by both thin layer chromatography and high performance liquid chromatography. Under the appropriate condition, chitosan was hydrolyzed using the enzyme preparation. The resulting chitooligosaccharides were purified and separated by Dowex ($H^+$) ion exchange chromatography. From 4 g soluble chitosan, 0.95 g $(GlcN)_2$, 1.43 g $(GlcN)_3$, and 1.18 g $(GlcN)_4$ were recovered.

  • It is indispensable to modern society metal processing since the industrialized rapidly, but it is a metalworking cutting fluid immediately. In addition, this means selecting a emulsion on the basis of quality criteria processing method, the material of the material, cutting depth, cutting speed, Djourou fence Liang, and surface roughness, cutting oil, the shape of the device based on the emulsion, I will be the structure of the tank, filtration equipment also changes. In particular, acting bacteria is now breeding in response to the passage of time due to metal ion degradation due to heat generated hydraulic fluid leakage, humidity tung, during processing, seep from processing material at the time of processing the water-soluble cutting oil for generating the malodor by dropping significantly the performance of the cutting oil to corruption from, sometimes by introducing various additives to suppress spoilage in advance. In this study, we expect the effect of the cost reduction in the extension of fluid replacement cycle through the application of the management apparatus and deep understanding in the management of cutting fluid, the working environment through the understanding and interest of workers in the production site more than anything I try to become useful for the improvement.

  • A newly-isolated thermophilic strain of the zygomycete fungus Rhizomucor pusillus 13.36 produced highly active dextrinogenic and saccharogenic enzymes. Cassava pulp was a good alternative substrate for amylase production. Dextrinogenic and saccharogenic amylases exhibited optimum activities at a pH of 4.0-4.5 and 5.0 respectively and at a temperature of $75^{\circ}C$. The enzymes were highly thermostable, with no detectable loss of saccharogenic or dextrinogenic activity after 1 hand 6 h at $60^{\circ}C$, respectively. The saccharogenic activity was inhibited by $Ca^{2+}$ while the dextrinogenic was indifferent to this ion. Both activities were inhibited by $Fe^{2+}\;and\;Cu^{2+}$ Hydrolysis of soluble starch by the crude enzyme yielded $66\%$ glucose, $19.5\%$ maltose, $7.7\%$ maltotriose and $6.6\%$ oligosaccharides.

  • Many studies have clarified that poly(${\gamma}$-glutamic acid) (PGA) increases the solubility of $Ca^{2+}$, suggesting that PGA enhances calcium absorption in the small intestine. However, there has been no report on the specific interaction between PGA and $Ca^{2+}$ in water. We studied the aqueous solution properties of PGA calcium salt (PGA-Ca complex). The chelating ability and binding strength of PGA for $Ca^{2+}$ were evaluated. The PGA-Ca complex was soluble in water, in contrast to the insolubility of poly(acrylic acid) (PAA) calcium salt, and the chelating ability of PGA for $Ca^{2+}$ was almost the same as that of PAA. The globular conformation of the PGA-Ca complex in water was estimated by SEC and viscosity measurements. The chelation ability of PGA for $Ca^{2+}$ was examined by $^1H$ NMR. The present study showing the characteristics of the PGA-Ca complex will provide useful information about the calcium absorption by PGA in vivo.

  • In this study, the effect of pH on the antioxidative activities of melanoidins formed as a result of the reaction between sugars, glucose (Glc) or fructose (Fru), and amino acids, L-asparagine (L-Asn) and D-asparagine (D-Asn) are examined. For this purpose, antioxidative activities were evaluated on the basis of reducing power, including ferric reducing/antioxidant power (FRAP) and free radical scavenging activity includes 1,1-diphenyl-2-picryl- hydrazil (DPPH) and 2,2'-azinobis(3-ethylbenothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) diammonium salt (ABTS) and ferrous ion chelating activity. Ethylene diamine tetraacetate (EDTA) and trolox, a water-soluble analog of tocopherol, were used as reference antioxidant compounds. The antioxidative activities of the melanoidins at a pH of 7.0 were greater than those with a pHs of 4.0 and pH 10.0. Especially, it was found that the melanoidins formed from D-isomers are more effective antioxidants in different in vitro assays. The reducing power and chelating activity of the melanoidins formed from the Fru systems were higher than those of the melanoidins formed from the Glc systems. However, the ABTS radical scavenging activity of the melanoidins formed from the Glc systems were higher than those of the melanoidins formed from the Fru systems. In particular, the DPPH radical scavenging activity and the FRAP of the melanoidins showed different antioxidative activities according to pH level.
