Mechanistic Studies on the Formation of Soluble Intermediate during the Electrochemical Nucleation of Lead Dioxide

  • Different behavior on the formation of soluble intermediate was observed depending on the substrate employed during the nucleation of lead dioxide from plumbous ion using a rotating ring-disk electrode. It was found that no soluble intermediate was formed at glassy carbon electrode, while the presence of soluble intermediate could be detected at platinum substrate. From the different anodic behavior of two substrates, the formation of a probable Pb(Ⅲ) soluble intermediate was suggested. A most probable nucleation mechanism at the platinum substrate involving a second order chemical reaction was derived on the basis of rotating disk electrode experiments.

  • Details on the electrochemical formation of lead dioxide from aqueous plumbous ion are studied by measuring current-time behavior with potential step method at a rotating platinum electrode. A cubic law without induction period can be applied to the crystallization of lead dioxide in both acetate and nitrate media. In the course of the mechanistic study, the presence of a soluble intermediate during the nucleation step is clearly observed with a rotating ring-disk electrode. Decrease in the anodic ring current due to the reduction of soluble species formed during the anodic crystallization of lead dioxide at disk is detected.

용성 및 불용성전극을 이용한 무전해 니켈 도금 산세 폐액 처리 (Treatment of Pickling Wastewater from Electroless Nickel Plating by Soluble Electrode and Insoluble Electrode)

  • 무전해 니켈 도금 산세 폐액을 강화된 니켈의 배출허용기준 3.0 mg/L 이하로 처리하기 위해서는 기존 처리방법의 단점을 보완한 처리방법의 개발이 필요하다. 용성전극 및 불용성전극을 이용한 전기분해 처리방법은 공통적으로 무전해 니켈 도금 산세 폐액을 효과적으로 처리할 수 있다. 그러나 용성전극은 전극으로부터 금속이 잘 용출되는 특징을 갖는 반면 불용성전극은 금속이 용출되지 않는 차이점을 갖고 있어 니켈 제거 효율 및 니켈 슬러지 순도에서 서로 다른 장단점이 존재한다. 이에 본 연구에서는 용성전극 및 불용성전극을 이용한 전기분해 방법으로 무전해 니켈 도금 산세 폐액을 처리하기 위한 최적조건을 도출하고, 두 전극을 이용한 방법의 장단점을 조사하였다. 실험결과 불용성전극을 사용하였을 때 처리수의 효율적인 니켈 제거를 위한 최적조건은 전류밀도 $15mA/cm^2$ 이상, pH 9 이상으로 도출되었고 이 조건에서 니켈 슬러지의 순도는 95.3%로 나타났으며, 슬러지 내 철 함량은 2.9%로 조사되었다. 용성전극을 사용하였을 때의 최적 조건은 전류밀도 $10mA/cm^2$ 이상, pH 9 이상으로 도출되었으며 최적조건에서 니켈 슬러지 순도는 77.3%, 슬러지 내 철 함량은 21.0%로 조사되었다. 처리비용을 기존의 처리비용과 비교하여 용성전극 사용시 50.7%, 불용성전극 사용시 24.2% 저감시킬 수 있는 것으로 조사되었다.

붕소도핑 다이아몬드 전극을 이용한 수용성 폐절삭유의 전기화학적 특성연구 (A Study on the Electrochemical Properties of Water-soluble Waste Cutting Oil using Boron-Doped Diamond Electrodes)

  • In metal cutting, water-soluble cutting oil is used for cooling the surface of the workpiece and improving the surface roughness. However, waste cutting oil contains preservatives and surfactants, and if it is discarded as it is, it has an great influence on environmental pollution. For this reason, regulations on the use of cutting oil are being stricter. Hence, the development of eco-friendly treatment technologies is required. In this study, a diamond electrode doped with boron on a niobium substrate was deposited by thermal filament chemical vapor deposition and waste cutting oil was treated using an electrochemical method. Compared to the total amount of organic carbon contained in the waste cutting oil, it was confirmed that the boron-doped diamonds developed from this study showed much better performance than electrodes that has been widely used before.

Organic Thin Film Transistor Fabricated with Soluble Pentacene Active Channel Layer and NiOx Electrodes

  • We report on the fabrication of soluble pentacene-based thin-film transistors (TFTs) that consist of $NiO_x$, poly-vinyl phenol (PVP), and Ni for the source-drain (SID) electrodes, gate dielectric, and gate electrode, respectively. The $NiO_x$ SID electrodes of which the work function is well matched to that of soluble pentacene are deposited on a soluble pentacenechannel by sputter deposited of NiO powder and show a moderately low but still effective transmittance of ~65% in the visible range along with a good sheet resistance of ${\sim}40{\Omega}/{\square}$. The maximum saturation current of our soluble pentacene-based TFT is about $15{\mu}A$ at a gate bias of -40showing a high field effect mobility of $0.06cm^2/Vs$ in the dark, and the on/off current ratio of our TFT is about $10^4$. It is concluded that jointly adopting $NiO_x$ for the S/D electrodes and PVP for gate dielectric realizes a high-quality soluble pentacene-based TFT.

  • PEDOT [poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene)] powder soluble in common organic solvent were synthesized by oxidative polymerization of EDOT (3,4-ethylene dioxythiophene) monomer using functional dopant, DEHSNa [sodium di(2-ethylhexyl)sulfosuccinate]. Transparent electrodes were made by spin casting of PEDOT/organic solvents on substrates. The electrode showed the transmittance < 90% in visible region and the surface resistance of> ${\sim}10^3\;ohm/{\square}$, respectively.

페놀수지의 C.T.I에 미치는 영향 (Influence of the C.T.I of phenolic resin)

  • This paper describes the influence of the electrode materials, moisture content, electrolyte density, temperature, surface state, ion absorbent on the C.T.I of phenolic resin by the I.E,C, 112 method. C.T.I are increased for electrode materials with low hydrogen overvoltage and high soluble point. Increusing moisture content of samples increased by logarithmical on the droplet number to tracking breakdown. Increasing electrolyte temperature region above 70-80(.deg.C) decreased hydrogen over-voltage, following the density changes are decreased by C.T.I=1/aD$^{2}$-bD+C.

정전분무 방전극을 이용한 습식 전기집진장치의 미세먼지 집진효율 평가 (Evaluation of Particle Collection Efficiency in a Wet Electrostatic Precipitator Using an Electrosprayed Discharge Electrode)

  • The wet electrostatic precipitator (wet ESP) is an effective control device which removes submicron particles reentrained in a collection plate and water soluble gas. However, its collection efficiency decreases, as its operation is subject to water-induced distortion of the collection electrode. In order to make up for the limitation, we modified the wet ESP system by installing electrosprayed discharge electrodes. The modified wet ESP system can wash both the collection plate and discharge electrode. As a result, we were able to fabricate a compact wet ESP with a small specific collecting area ($0.18m^2(m^3/min)$) that can accomplish a high collection efficiency of fine particles (97.1%). In addition, the device obtained a relatively low specific corona power of approximately $10W/(m^3/min)$.

전기응집/부상 공정을 이용한 TiO2 폐수의 탁도 제거 (Turbidity Treatment of TiO2 Wastewater by Electrocoagulation/flotation Process)

  • The separation of $TiO_2$ wastewater carried out by an electrocoagulation/flotation process, which had various operating parameters. The effect of electrode material (aluminum and four dimensionally stable electrode), applied current (0.07~0.5 A), electrolyte concentration (0~1 g/L), solution pH (3~11), initial turbidity (1000~20000 NTU) and suspended solid concentration (5000~25000 mg/L) were evaluated. Turbidity removal efficiency of the soluble anode (aluminum), which could produce metal ions, was higher than that of the dimensionally stable electrode. Considering operation time, turbidity removal and electric power, optimum current was 0.19 A. The more NaCl dosage was high, the less electric power was required. However, optimum NaCl concentration was 0.125 g/L considered removal efficiency, operation time and cost. Initial $TiO_2$ concentration did not affected turbidity removal on the electrocoagulation/flotation operation. The electrocoagulation/flotation process was proved to be a very effective separation method in the removal of $TiO_2$ from wastewater.

  • Toxic organics are of great environmental concern primarily because they are toxic to mammals and birds, and are relatively soluble in water to contaminate surface water and groundwater. In this study, the decomposition of phenol, a widely used organic, in aqueous solutions by Boron doped diamond(BDD) electrode was examined. Thin, Boron-doped conducting diamond films are expected to be excellent electrodes for industrial electrolysis. Boron-doped diamond (BDD) were used as anode for generating ozone gas by electrolysis of acid solution. In this work. we have studied ozone generating system using BDD electrode. In order to determine the ozone generation properties of diamond electrode, experimental conditions, electrolyte concentration, temperature, flow rate and reaction time were varied diversely. As a result, we could confirm that ozone gas was generated successfully and the performance of diamond electrode was stable for electrolyte while $PbO_2$ electrode was disintegrated. Actually we are found that ozone amount increased by lowering the temperature of electrolyte. Decomposition of phenol concentration in the reaction solution by photolytic ozonation( $UV/O_3$) was analyzed by HPLC epuipped with a UV detector.
