A wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) is a major gateway for the engineered nano-particles (ENPs) entering the water bodies. However existing studies have reported that many WWTPs exceed the No Observed Effective Concentration (NOEC) for ENPs in the effluent and thus they need to be designed or operated to more effectively control ENPs. Understanding and predicting ENPs behaviors in the unit and \the whole process of a WWTP should be the key first step to develop strategies for controlling ENPs using a WWTP. This study aims to provide a modeling tool for predicting behaviors and removal efficiencies of ENPs in a WWTP associated with process characteristics and major operating conditions. In the developed model, four unit processes for water treatment (primary clarifier, bioreactor, secondary clarifier, and tertiary treatment unit) were considered. Additionally the model simulates the sludge treatment system as a single process that integrates multiple unit processes including thickeners, digesters, and dewatering units. The simulated ENP was nano-sized TiO2, (nano-TiO2) assuming that its behavior in a WWTP is dominated by the attachment with suspendid solids (SS), while dissolution and transformation are insignificant. The attachment mechanism of nano-TiO2 to SS was incorporated into the model equations using the apparent solid-liquid partition coefficient (Kd) under the equilibrium assumption between solid and liquid phase, and a steady state condition of nano-TiO2 was assumed. Furthermore, an MS Excel-based user interface was developed to provide user-friendly environment for the nano-TiO2 removal efficiency calculations. Using the developed model, a preliminary simulation was conducted to examine how the solid retention time (SRT), a major operating variable affects the removal efficiency of nano-TiO2 particles in a WWTP.
To improve wastewater treatment in a confectionery factory and to optimize chemical coagulation process, this study was performed. $COD_{Mn}$ and total solid of untreated wastewater were $200{\sim}820ppm\;and\;860{\sim}1350ppm$, respectively. Composition of total solid was sugar 40%, protein 10%, hexane-soluble 20%, and ash 30%. Turbidity at 650 nm and the amount of suspended solid (SS) showed correlation, thus turbidity could be used for the on-line measurement of SS. The most effective combination of coagulants for the removal of $COD_{Mn}$ and SS was that of $Al_2(SO_4)_3\;and\;Ca(OH)_2$. The optimal concentration of $Al_2(SO_4)_3\;and\;Ca(OH)_2$ was 480 ppm and 200 ppm, respectively. Optimal retention time of wastewater for $Al_2(SO_4)_3$ addition $Ca(OH)_2$ addition : flocculation was 2 : 2 : 10 min. Multiple treatment of $Al_2(SO_4)_3:Ca(OH)_2$ overcame coagulation inhibition by gelatin and detergent, and addition of microbial sludge reduced it.
Recently, culture of Undaria pinnatifida, one of the representative esculent sea weed, has been prevailing in tile east and south coasta of Korea and reached the mass culture stage. In this study, compositional quality factors for food were studied and the contributory effects of blanching and pigment fixatives in the quality retention of cultured Undaria pinnatifida are discussed. When the place and time of harvesting were the same, cultured pinnatifida showed scarce difference in the chemical composition comparing to tile naturally grown Undaria pinnatifida, but cultured Undaria pinnatifida shelved a considerable difference depending upon the cultured places. In the chemical composition of Undaria pinnatifida, the alginic acid comprising about $40\%$ of the whole solid materials seemed to be responsible for the compositional puality. The chlorophyll and carotenoid content of the clutured Unaria pinnatifida were considerably lower than that of the naturally grown Undaria pinnatifida and wass inferior in puality by color to the naturally grown one. Dried Undaria pinnatifida contained a considerable amount of amino-N, mannitol, and soluble minerals and it is considered that these components play a great role in the relish effects. It could also be evaluated as a good albuminous source for food science the dried pinnatifida contains about $18\%$ of crude protein. In the analysis of free amino acid composition of dried Undaria pinnatifida, the naturally growm samples showed so what higher levels in all amino acid content than the cultured samples. The contents of theronine, alanine, and glutamic acid were major in quantity wherease histidine cysteine, tyrosine, and phenylalanine were minor. The contents of such amino acids like serine and proline were particularly low or undetectable. The results of amino acid analysis of the acid hydrolysates of dried Undaria pinnatifida in quantity of individual amino acid showed te same pattern as that of free amino acid. It is noticed that Undaria pinnatifida seemed to contain good quality protein since the contents of essential amino acids were considerably higher and uniform. By blanching the fresh sample, the water soluble components brought about cousiderable loss, and, particularly, it was noteworthy that both mannitol and soluble minerals apparently decreased. In the pigment analysis of the dried sample, blanching was effective to retain chlorophyll and carotenoid. The addition of pigment fixatives in blanching solution such as Ca-gluconate, Ca-carbonate, and Ca-hydroxide did not exhibit much effect on the pigment retention except that Ca-carbonate shelved some effect only in the early stage of storage.

The ice storage system uses water for low temperature latent heat storage. However, a refrigerator capacity are increased and COP are decreased due to supercooling of water in the course of phase change from liquid to solid. This study investigates the cooling characteristics of the TMA-water clathrate compound including TMA (Tri-methyl-amine, $(CH_3)_3N$) of 20~25 wt% as a low temperature latent heat storage material. The results showed that the phase change temperature are increased and the supercooling degree and the specific heat are decreased according to the weight concentration of TMA increased. Especially, the clathrate compound containing TMA 25wt% has the average phase change temperature of $5.8^{\circ}C$ and the supercooling degree of $8.0^{\circ}C$, retention time of liquid phase for 651sec and specific heat of 3.499 kJ/kgK in the cooling process. This expressed good than different concentration of TMA cooling characteristic. Like this, to apply TMA 25wt%-water clathrate compound is determined by advantageous as the low temperature latent heat storage material.

Temperature-phased anaerobic digestion (TPAD), anaerobic sequencing batch reactor (ASBR), and co-digestion technologies were combined together in order to overcome low efficiencies of conventional anaerobic sewage sludge digestion processes. In the performance, TPAD-ASBR process showed high VS removal efficiency over 60% up to the organic loading rate (OLR) of 2.7 g VS/L/d. The first-stage of TPAD-ASBR and control system played a most significant role in VS destruction and methane production. Methane production rate (0.79 l $CH_4/L/d$) of the system was higher than that (0.59 l $CH_4/L/d$) of the control system. The substrate characteristics of the sewage sludge, such as low VS concentration (1.5%, w/w) and biodegradability, were properly improved by the addition of food waste as a co-substrate, leading to more efficient VS removal and methane production. With several track studies, it was revealed that the independent solid retention time (SRT) of those systems prevented untreated particles from outflowing and also, extended the retention time of the active biomass for further degradation. Consequently, it was confirmed that the sequencing batch operation of the TPAD process using co-substrate was a promising alternative for the recycling of sewage sludge with low VS content.
For the identification of unknown drugs in biological samples, we attempted rapid high performance thin layer chromatographic method which is sensitive and selective chromatographic analysis of high performance thin layer chromatography (HPTLC) with automated TLC sampler and ultra-violet (UV) scanner. We constructed HPTLC database (DB) on two hundred five drugs by using the data of Rf values and UV spectra (scan 200-360 nm) as well as gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS) DB on ninety six drugs by using the data of relative retention time (RRT) on lidocain and mass spectra. After extracting drugs in biological sample by solid phase extraction (Clean Screen ZSDAU020), we applied them to HPTLC and GC/MS DB. Drugs, especially extracted from biological samples, showed good matching ratio to HPTLC DB and these drugs were confirmed by GC/MS. In conclusion, this DB system is thought to be very useful method for the screening of unknown drugs in biological samples.

The purpose of the present study was to develop a standard protocol for imidapril hydrochloride bioequivalence testing. For this reason, a specific LC-MS method was developed and validated for the determination of imidapril in human plasma. A solid-phase extraction cartridge, $Sep-pak^{R}$ C18, was used to extract imidapril and ramipril (an internal standard) from deproteinized plasma. The compounds were separated using a XTerra $MS^{R}$?C18 column ($3.5 {\mu}m, 2.1\times150 mm$) and $acetonitrile-0.1\%$ formic acid (67:33, v/v) adjusted to pH 2.4 by 2 mmol/L ammonium formic acid, as mobile phase at 0.3 mL/min. Imidapril was detected as m/z 406 at a retention time of ca. 2.3 min, and ramipril as m/z 417 at ca. 3.6 min. The described method showed acceptable specificity, linearity from 0.5 to 100 ng/mL, precision (expressed as a relative standard deviation of less than $15\%$), accuracy, and stability. The plasma concentration-versus-time curves of eight healthy male volunteers administered a single dose of imidapril (10 mg), gave an $AUC_{12hr}$ of imidapril of $121.48\pm35.81 ng mL^{-1} h$, and $C_{max} and T_{max}$ values of $32.59\pm9.76 ng/mL and 1.75\pm0.27 h$. The developed method should be useful for the determination of imidapril in plasma with sufficient sensitivity and specificity in bioequivalence study.

This work is undertaken to determine alcohol homologues so-called fusel oil that may be present in the Korean folk sojues (distilled liquor) made from grains and to describe sample preparation and analytical method by GC-FID-MS. Solid phase extraction method for sample preparation by using porous styrene divinyl benzene polymer (Porapak Q) was compared with steam distillation and solvent extraction method. Retention behaviors of homologous series of alcohols were also studied. Log values of retention time, molecular weight, boiling point, and capacity factor of alcohols showed linear correlations to the carbon number of an alcohol, to the oven temperature, and to the dielectric constant. Components such as methyl alcohol, n-propyl alcohol, isobutyl alcohol, isopentyl alcohol, and phenethyl alcohol have been identified. The more amount of isopentyl alcohol than other alcohols are contained in the Korean folk sojues, while that of n-propyl alcohol are contained in Chinese kaoliangchiew. Degree of similarity or dissimilarity and classification of the individual samples were discussed using multivariate statistical analysis(principal components analysis) based on GC data.
"The Act on Medication Treatment of Sexual Impulse of Sex Offenders" known as chemical castration has been effective since July 2011 in Korea. According to the law, monitoring of male sex hormone in urine is enforced to request National Forensic Service more than once a month after injection of medicine designed to reduce sex impulse. We established a rapid and sensitive method for the monitoring of testosterone (T) and epitestosterone (E) in human urine by liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). Three mL of urine was pretreated by solid-phase extraction for purification and performed enzymatic hydrolysis. The pretreated samples were extracted twice with 2 ml of ethyl acetate and n-hexane (2 : 3). The separation was applied on Thermo Hypersil GOLD C18 column ($1.9{\mu}m$, $100{\times}2.1mm$). A gradient elution of methanol and water of 0.1% formic acid were used as mobile phase and the retention time was less than 10 min. LC-MS/MS system coupled with an electrospray ionization source was performed in multiple reaction monitoring mode. The transitions of the analytes executed as following: m/z $289{\rightarrow}97$, 109 for T and E, m/z $292{\rightarrow}109$ for $T-d_3$ and $E-d_3$ as internal standards. The validation results of the method were satisfactory. The limits of detection were 0.05 ng/ml and the limits of quantification were 0.1 ng/ml. This method was successfully applied to real human urine sample. The developed method will be useful for monitoring T/E ratio in urine of sex offenders.

The hydrolysis of organic solid waste, such as sludge, is the rate-limiting step of the anaerobic digestion. The longer rate-limiting step lead to decrease of treatment efficiency and increase hydraulic retention time and anaerobic digester. Therefore, the pre-treatment has been applied for accelerating the hydrolysis step. This study was investigated the effects of pre-treatment of waste activated sludge using ultrasonic and alkaline integrated treatment simultaneously. The results showed the cumulative methane production and the methane production rate increased while the lag phase decreased. Therefore ultrasonic and alkaline integrated pre-treatment of waste activated sludge resulted in acceleration of hydrolysis step in anaerobic digestion.
