Microstructural characteristics of Al-3.63wt.%Pb hyper-monotectic alloy rapidly-solidified by melt spinning were examined. Possibility of forming a planar liquid -solid interface during rapid solidification of this alloy was also considered with a morphological stability theory, and a mechanism of forming banded structure observed at the bottom parts of melt-spinned specimens was considered as well. Application of the absolute stability criterion predicts the liquid-solid interface of the primary aluminium phase to be able to maintain a planar interface during the early stage of rapid solidification. Formation of banded structure was supposed to be resulted from the release of latent heat during solidification, which affect the stability of a planar liquid-solid interface.

A relationship between stress and stain is very important to design a die to avoid defects of products during semi-solid forming process. Since the liquid will be of eutectic composition in alloys liquid segregation will result in significant or undesirable situation. The materials used in this experiment are A 357. A390, Al2024 alloys that is fabricated by the electro-magnetic stirring process from Pechiney in France. The compression test was performed by induction heating equipment and MTS. In order to prevent the liquid segregation these measured temperature would be useful to control of strain rate during compression test. The liquid segregation is controlled as change of the strain rate and solid fraction during the compression process, The characteristics of flow between solid and liquid phase considering liquid segregation is examined through the above experiments. In the case of medium and high volume fractions of solid the distribution of strain rate is calculated by using compression test data of semi-solid materials (SSM). The thixoforming experiments with the designed die are carried out successfully. The die filling patterns of SSM for variation of die temperature and pressing force have been investigated. The hardness of the thixoformed scroll products is evaluated in terms of the microstructure for each position.
The behaviour of alloys in the semi-solid state strongly depends on the imposed stress stage and on the morphology of the phase which can vary from dendritic to globular. To optimal net shape forging of semi-solid materials, it is important to investigate for material behaviour for variation of strain rate. Therefore, to investigate the effect of compression speed on deformation of aluminum alloy with globular microstructure, the compression test for semi-solid aluminum alloy with controlled solid fraction is perform by material test system which is attracted with furance. The behavior of semi-solid aluminum alloy were discussed for the various solid fraction and die speed. The material constants in stress-strain were are also proposed.

It is reported that semi-solid forming process takes many advantages over the conventional forming process, such as long die lift, good mechanical properties and energy saves. Rheology material has a thixotropic, pseudo-plastic and shear-thinning characteristic. Therefore, general plastic or fluid dynamic analysis is not suitable for the behavior of rheology material. So it is difficult for a numerical simulation of the rheology process to be performed because complicated processes such as the filling to include the state of the free surface and solidification in the phase transformation must be considered. Moreover, it is important to predict the deformation behavior for optimization of net shape forging process with semi-solid materials and to control liquid segregation for mechanical properties of materials. In this study, so, molecular dynamics simulation was performed for the control of liquid segregation in compression experiment as a part of study on analysis of rheology forming process.
Silicide formation process and the formation sequence were investigated in this study. It was postulated that the formation of the second silicide phase involves glass formation between the first silicide phase and Si given that a thin metal film is deposited on a Si substrate. The concentration of glass was assumed to be located where the free energy of the liquid alloy with respect to the first nucleated compound and solid Si (${\Delta}$G') is most negative. It was also mentioned that the glass concentration is close to the composition of the second phase in order to achieve the maximum energy degradation. It was shown that the minimum ${\Delta}$G' concentration can be estimated by interpolating the portion of the liquidus where the liquid alloy is in equilibrium with the two solid constituents, namely the first compound phase and Si, thereby forming a hypothetical eutectic.

The major objective of this study is to establish analytical technique in order to analyze the behaviour of semi-solid material considering induction heating of the billet. Induction heating process is analyzed by using commerical finite element software. ANSYS. The finite element program, SFAC2D, for the simulation of deformation in semi-solid state is developed in the present study. The semi-solid behaviour is described by a viscoplastic model for the solid phase, and by the Darcy's law for the liquid flow. Simple compression and closed-die compression process considering induction heating are analyzed, and also it is found that the distribution of initial solid fraction of the billet has an important effect on deformation behaviour of semi-solid material. In order to verify the effectiveness of proposed analytical technique the simulation result is compared with experimental result.

The Principal deficiency of the existing notion about the sintering-mixtures consists in the fact that almost no attention is focused on the Phenomenon of alloy formation during sintering, its connection with dimensional changes of powder bodies, and no correct ideas on the driving force for the sintering process in the stage of establishing chemical equilibrium in a system are available as well. Another disadvantage of the classical sintering theory is an erroneous conception on the dissolution mechanism of solid in liquid. The two-particle model widely used in the literature to describe the sintering phenomenon in solid state disregards the nature of the neighbouring surrounding particles, the presence of pores between them, and the rise of so called arch effect. In this presentation, new basic scientific principles of the driving forces for the sintering process of a two-component powder body, of a diffusion mechanism of the interaction between solid and liquid phases, of stresses and deformation arising in the diffusion zone have been developed. The major driving force for sintering the mixture from components capable of forming solid solutions and intermetallic compounds is attributed to the alloy formation rather than the reduction of the free surface area until the chemical equilibrium is achieved in a system. The lecture considers a multiparticle model of the mixed powder-body and the nature of its volume changes during solid-state and liquid-phase sintering. It explains the discovered S-and V-type concentration dependencies of the change in the compact volume during solid-state sintering. It is supposed in the literature that the dissolution of solid in liquid is realised due to the removal of atoms from the surface of the solid phase into the melt and then their diffusicn transfer from the solid-liquid interface into the bulk of liquid. It has been shown in our experimental studies that the mechanism of the interaction between two components, one of them being liquid, consist in diffusion of the solvent atoms from the liquid into the solid phase until the concentration of solid solutions or an intermetallic compound in the surface layer enables them to pass into the liquid by means of melting. The lecture discusses peculimities of liquid phase formation in systems with intermediate compounds and the role of the liquid phase in bringing about the exothermic effect. At the frist stage of liquid phase sintering the diffusion of atoms from the melt into the solid causes the powder body to grow. At the second stage the diminution of particles in size as a result of their dissolution in the liquid draws their centres closer to each other and makes the compact to shrink Analytical equations were derived to describe quantitatively the porosity and volume changes of compacts as a result of alloy formation during liquid phase sinteIing. Selection criteria for an additive, its concentration and the temperature regime of sintering to control the density the structure of sintered alloys are given.
In this study, Cu-5Ni-10Sn(wt%) spinodal alloy was manufactured by gas atomization spray forming, and the microstructural features and mechanical properties of Cu-5Ni-10Sn alloy have been investigated during homogenization, cold working and age-hardening. The spray formed Cu-5Ni-10Sn alloy consisted of an equiaxed microstructure with a mixture of solid solution ${\alpha}$-(CuNiSn) grains and lamellar-structure grains. Homogenization at $800^{\circ}C$ and subsequent rapid quenching formed a uniform solid solution ${\alpha}$-(CuNiSn) phase. Direct aging at $350^{\circ}C$ from the homogenized Cu-5Ni-10Sn alloy promoted the precipitation of finely distributed ${\gamma}$' or ${\gamma}-(Cu,Ni)_3Sn$ phase throughout the matrix, resulting in a significant increase in microhardness and tensile strength. Cold working prior to aging was effective in strengthening Cu-5Ni-10Sn alloy, which gave rise to a maximum tensile strength of 1165 MPa. Subsequent aging treatment slightly reduced the tensile strength to 1000-1100 MPa due to annealing effects.

A new forming technology has been developed to fabricate near-net shape components by using aluminum alloys with globular microstructure. The estimations of filling characteristic in the forging simulation with arbitrarily shaped dies of SSM are calculated by finite element method with proposed algorithm. The proposed model and various boundary conditions for arbitrarily shaped die are investigated with the coupling calculation between the liquid phase flow and the solid phase deformation. The simulation processes with arbitrarily shaped dies are performed on the isothermal conditions and axisymmetric problems. To analyze the forging process simulation with SSM, new stress-strain relationship for semi-solid behaviour is described, and forging the liquid flow. Furthermore, For the purpose of getting net shape of SSM, it is important to be obtain a solid fraction in forging process with arbitrarily shaped dies. To produce a automotive part which have good mechanical properties, the filling pattern in accordance with die velocity and solid fraction distribution has to be estimated for arbitrarily shaped die.
