In this paper, the low power (1.5 W) solenoid-type magnetic thin-film transformers utilizing a $Ni_{81}Fe_{19)$ core material were designed and fabricated for 5 MHz-drive DC-DC converter application. The $20\mum$ thick copper films were used as the coils. The transformers fabricated in this work have the sizes of $3.08 mm\times25.5 mm\; and\; 6.15 mm\times12.75 mm.$ The optimum design of solenoid-type magnetic thin film transformers was performed utilizing the conventional equations, a Maxwell computer simulator (Ansoft HFSS V7.0 for PC), and parameters obtained from the magnetic properties of NiFe magnetic core materials. frequency characteristics of inductance, dc resistance (R), coupling factor (k) and gain of developed transformers were measured using HP4194A impedance and gain-phase analyzer. The fabricated transformers with the size of $6.15 mm\time12.75 mm$ exhibit the inductance of $0.83 \muH$, the dc resistance of $2.3\Omega$$\Omega$, the k of 0.91 and the gain of -1 dB at 5 MHz, which show the comparable results to those reported in the recent literatures. The measured high-frequency characteristics for the fabricated transformers agreed well with those obtained by theoretical calculations .
In this work, small-size, high-performance simple solenoid-type RF chip inductors utilizing an Al2O3 core material were investigated. Copper (Cu) wire with $40\mum$ diameter was used as the coils and the size of the chip inductor fabricated in this work was $2.1mm\times1.5mm\times1.0mm$. The external current source was applied after bonding Cu coil leads to gold pads electro-plated on each end of backsides of a core material. High frequency characteristics of the inductance (L), quality factor (Q), and impedance (Z) of developed inductors were measured using an RF Impedance/Material Analyzer (HP4291B with HP16193A test fixture). This HP4291B was also used to obtain the equivalent circuit and its circuit parameters of the chip inductors. This HP4291B was also used to obtain the equivalent circuit and its circuit parameters of the chip inductors. The developed inductors have the self-resonant frequency (SRF) of 1.1 to 3.1 GHz and exhibit L of 22 to 150 nH. The L of the inductors decreases with increasing the SRF. The Z of the inductors has the maximum value at the SRF and the inductors have the quality factor of 70 to 97 in the frequency range of 500 MHz to 1.5 GHz.
In this study, the electromagnetic characteristics of a flat-type two-dimensional proportional solenoid were analyzed by the magnetic reluctance method. The equivalent magnetic circuit equation for the solenoid was derived by modeling the reluctance of air gaps and magnetic structural components such as pole core, armature and yoke. It was solved iteratively because of the nonlinear magnetization properties of the iron parts. The solutions showed good agreement with experimental data. Based on the equivalent magnetic circuit equation, the influence of design parameters on the force-to-armature displacement curves was mathematically derived and experimentally verified. In this way, dominant design parameters could be analytically determined.
In general, a DC solenoid valve is evaluated by the performances such as the attraction force at maximum and minimum strokes, temperature rising, power consumption and time of action. The importance of each performance may be different according to the specific application purpose. When the temperature rising and power consumption are fixed, however, the performance of DC solenoid valve is usually evaluated by the attraction force at maximum and minimum strokes and time of action. In this paper, the shape of the pole face of plunger and core is optimized to increase the attraction force at maximum stroke, and thereby to minimize the time of action. For the shape optimization, (1+1) evolution strategy is incorporated with the response surface method(RSM) and finite element method(FEM).

It is becoming more significant to develop a rotary VCM type actuator for small form factor ODD, as portables are getting more and more popularized nowadays. In this paper, the procedure of development of the actuator which is applicable to compact flash II card and is fit in the specification of BD 1X is explained. This is based on the rotary VCM type actuator, which is good for reducing thickness. Air core solenoid coil is used in order to do focusing mechanism. And the total weight is reduced by using the structure of steel-aluminium-steel triple layer, so, the stiffness is still adequate. Additionally, the tracking coil is moved next to the actuator, so the total length was reduced, then the actuator become applicable to compact flash II card. The force of Magnetic Circuit is improved by using Magnetic Circuit DOE. And flexible mode frequency improved through the DOE of structure part. Modeling was exactly done in consideration of air core solenoid coil and pivot bearing. It is confirmed that the designed model is satisfied with the specification of BD 1X and is applicable to Compact Flash II card.
Recently, the on-off solenoid valves have been focused on core technology in the fields of the production line of semi-conductor chips and the micro fluid chips for bio-medical applications. A key characteristics for on-off solenoid valve, operated by compressed air, are high speed response and great repeatability. Indeed, it is also important to keep the pressure on the cross-sectional area of the poppet to be constant regardless of the fluctuation of the pressure exerted on the ports. In this study, we have designed and analysed the high-speed and high flow rate on-off solenoid valve using the analogy of equivalent magnetic circuit and Finite Element Method (FEM) respectively. In case of poppet, flow field characteristics was analyzed by the variation of poppet and it was able to display flow field by changing the location of the poppet. Also, we verified possibility of the design through the static and dynamic pressure and the 3D simulation using distribution curve of the force by working the front poppet.
A fluxgate magnetic sensor consists of a solenoid excitation coil, pick-up coil, and magnetic core. We presents the effect of magnetic core shape in a micromachined fluxgate sensor. To observe the performance of fluxgate sensor with magnetic core side width and gap, side width of 125 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, 250 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, and 500 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ were designed in a rectangular-ring shaped core and the gaps of 0 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, 50 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, and 100 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ were also fabricated in a racetrack shaped core. The solenoid coils and magnetic core were separated by benzocyclobutane(BCB) which had high insulation and good planarization characters. Copper coil patterns of 10 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ width and 6${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ thickness were electroplated on Ti(300 $\AA$) / Cu(1500 $\AA$) seed layers. 3 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ thick N $i_{0.8}$F $e_{0.2.}$(permalloy) film for the magnetic core was also electroplated under 2000 gauss to induce the magnetic anisotropy. The magnetic core had the high DC effective permeability of ∼1,300 and coercive field of ∼0.1 Oe. Because the magnetic cores of 500 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ side width and 0 gap had a low magnetic flux leakage, high sensitivity of ∼350 V/T were measured at excitation condition of 3 $V_{P-P}$ and 2 MHz square wave. The power consumption of ∼14 ㎽ was measured. The fabricated fluxgate sensor had the very small actual size of 3.0${\times}$1.7 $\textrm{mm}^2$. When two fluxgates were perpendicularly aligned in terrestrial field, their two-axis output signals were very useful to commercialize an electronic azimuth compass for the portable navigation system.m.m.m.
In this paper, we introduce a positioner based on magnetic levitation to eliminate the friction which is the most severe effect to limit high resolution on the micro level. Differently from existing electromagnetic device, the proposed positioner consists of air core solenoid and permanent magnet. Although the combination produces small magnetic force, it is suitable for realizing micro motion repeatedly without the accumulation of error because there is no hysteresis caused by ferromagnetic materials, no eddy current loss, no flux saturation. First, the approximate modeling of stiffness and damping effects between the magnetic elements is made and verified experimentally. Then, we have formulated the dynamic equation of one d.o.f magnetic levitation positioner using linear perturbation method and discussed the necessity of optimization for the chief design parameters to maximize the stability performance.
The tempering and magnetic annealing are used to improve the soft magnetic properties such as initial permeability coercivity and core loss of the KM35F alloy. The first heat treatmentis performed at the temperature less than the curie temperature of the KM35F alloy to remove the thermal stress for few hours in nitrogen atmosphere. The second stage heat treatment is performed the magnetic annealing at $500{\sim}800^{\circ}C$ for few hours in nitrogen atmosphere, and then quenching to room temperature in absence of oxygen. Finally, magnetic properties of the thermally treated KM35F alloy are investigated for application as a soft magnetic material of the ISO solenoid valve core and plunger.
