  • This paper applies an active period based bottleneck detection method to flow shop manufacturing system with limited buffer size. Manufacturing systems are constrained by one or more bottlenecks which degrades the system throughput. Conventional bottleneck detection methods include the waiting time or queue length of production stations and their utilization. Due to the random events such as production time of items, machine failure and repair times, the systems may change over time, and subsequently bottlenecks shift from one station to another station. Active period of working station may cause other stations to wait for productions. Information when and where active periods occur helps to find bottlenecks in production systems. Based on these informations, we predict bottlenecks in applying AweSim simulation language. We compare the simulation results of conventional methods with those obtained from duration of active period method, and duration ratio method of both sole and shift bottleneck periods. Even though simulation results are from simple flow shop model, they are quite promising for predicting bottlenecks of production stations. We hope this study aids in decision making regarding the improving system production yield and allocation of available resources of system.

  • The bacteria capable of utilizing polyethylene glycol(PEG) 6,000 as a sole carbon source were isolated from soil and sewage water connected to factory area. The isolate designated as EL-033 had high biodegradability on PEG 6,000, and was identified as Micrococcus sp. Micrococcus sp. EL-033 could grow on and degrade di-, tri-, tetraethylene glycols and PEGs with molecular weight up to 6,000 and very slowly stilize PEG 20,000 as sole carbon source, but not degrade ethylene glycol. The growth rate of isolate was increased in the higher molecular weight PEGs. The optical culture medium was established to be as follow: PEG 6,000, 0.2%(w/v); $K_2HPO_4$, 0.1%; $NaH_2PO_4{\cdot}12H_2O,\;0.1%\;:\;MgSO_4{\cdot}7H_2O$, 0.05%; polypeptone, 0.1% in distilled water, pH7.5. About 90% of PEG 6,000 was degraded in exponential phase of 48h culture and PEG 6,000 was completely degraded during 72h.

  • This study was to investigate the positive effects of specially designed trunk-stabilization exercise program on lower extremity balance of elderly with history of leprosy. In this participants, lower extremity functions has been undermined by the development of damage in peripheral nerves. A total of 40 elderly with history of leprosy were divided into 2 groups of equal size ($n_{1,\;2}=20$): a group that participated in the exercise program, and a control group that did not exercise but did continue to engage in normal daily activities (including walking). The exercise group exercised for 60 minutes 2 days a week for 12 weeks. Static balance ability was measured by asking study participants to a one leg standing test: dynamic balancing ability was measured with a tandem walking test and a timed up-and-go test. The participants in the exercise program and the control group were tested before and after completion of the exercise program for comparison, and then divided according to their ability to feel sensory in the soles of their feet into the categories of normal sensory group: group with sensory loss in one foot: and group with sensory loss in both feet. The participants in the exercise program showed a positive, statistically significant difference in static balance compared with the control group (p<.05) as measured using the one leg standing test. Similarly, the participants in dynamic balance (p<.05) as measured using the tandem walking and timed up-and-go tests. Finally, these improvements were related to the severity of sensory loss in the soles of the feet for all study participants.

  • The health of feet is connected with individual's health and affects a man's activity. Shoes need to be designed to protect feet and to absorb the impact of land. In order to choose suitable shoes for feet, the foot size and shape must be considered, so it is essential to grasp the exact size and shape of the foot. This study aims to present fundamental data on shoes' easy order prototype development for choosing shoes of good wearing comfort, by classifying feet size and shape junior high school boys in the early adolescent period. The subject were 234 Korean junior high school boys age from 14 to 16 years old. The subjects were directly measured anthropometrically and indirectly analyzed photographically. 6 factors were extracted through factor analysis and those factors comprised 79.42% of total variance. The factors characterizing foot girth and width, foot length, foot height, foot shape around the fifth toes, angle of foot breadth and foot shape around the first toes. 3 clusters as their foot shape were categorized using 6 factor scores by cluster analysis. Type 1 was characterized by long large foot with deformed first toe. Type 2 had smaller in foot girth, width and length than other types and with deformed fifth toe. Type 3 had average size and high foot shape. Shoes prototype which is to be developed later on will be able to generate 2D flattening in the foot sole form. Therefore, it would be a great support in producing and choosing appropriate shoes if forms are classified by subdividing foot form classification and extract a factor which shows only the foot sole shape.

  • This survey reports on the extensive examination of the qualify of 14 jogging and tennis shoes separately, availavable in the domestic market, Both jogging and tennis shoes were catagorised in two groups, namely the general goods(less expensive ones) and the exclusive goods(expensive models). The detailed classification are shown below; The domestic products meet the general purpose just as that of the foreign products. Due to the adhesion technology, the domestic tennis shoes consist of rubber sole with natural leather upper; In fact, the desirable combination, as foreign products, must be polyurethane/natural leather. The expensive models were heavier than the less expensive ones. The greater weight difference of right and left shoes are shown in the expensive models than that of the less expensive ones. The moisture absorption ratio of the expensive model is far superior in comparison with the less expensive model. The reason is identified by the material supplyed to produce the expensive model consisted of the natural leather and proper parts. The abrasion resistance of the expensive models were excellent that of the less expensive ones, because the rubber soles were showed the properties better than polyurethane sole which was used in the less expensive model.

  • Due to the recent quantum leaps forward in bio-, nano-, and information-technologies (BT, NT and IT), the precisionization and miniaturization of mechanical and electrical components are in high demand. In particular, the ITrelated equipments that take a great part in our domestic industry are in the area requiring high precision technologies. As a consequence, the researches on the development vibration isolation systems that diminish external disturbance or internal vibration are highly required. Among the components comprising the vibration isolation system, air spring has become on a focal point for the researchers due to its merits. This air spring is able to support heavy loads, keep a low natural frequency despite of having a lower value of stiffness, and control the performance of vibration isolation. However, sometimes the sole use of air spring is in demand due to some economic reasons. Under this circumstance, the damping effect of sole air spring may not enough to reduce sufficient amount of vibration. In this study, the air spring mount system connecting with an external chamber is proposed to increase or control the damping effect. To investigate its damping mechanism, the thermal and dynamic behaviors of the system is examined through a theoretical modeling approach in this part of research. In this approach, thermomechanical and Helmholtz resonator type models are to be employed for the air spring/external chambers and connecting tube system, respectively. The frequency response functions (FRFs) derived from the modeling effort are evaluated with physical parametric values and the effects of connecting tube length on these FRFs are identified through computer simulations.

  • The dermatoglyphic paffems of the hands and feet form during early fetal life and thereafter remain essentially unchanged. These traits are useful to study genetics and environmental factors that influence prenatal life and used in practice for personal identification and diagnosis of some diseases. The students of 112 male and 118 female were tested for the paffems of plantar regions. The most common patterns were open fields in the four interdigital areas and the frequency of the mirror pattern on them was 57.2%. For a-b, b-c and c-d ridge counts of the plantar interdigital areas sampled from 105 male and 109 female students, the nonsignificances were found between both sexes and between both feet.

  • The capability of utilizing a TCA cycle intermediates as the sole carbon source by the multi-vitamin auxotrophic yeast Torulopsis glabrata CCTCC M202019 was demonstrated with plate count method. It is indicated that T. glabrata could grew on a medium with one of the TCA cycle intermediates as the sole carbon source, but more colonies were observed when glucose, acetate and one of the TCA cycle intermediates coexisted in the medium. Among the intermediates of the TCA cycle examined in this study, cell growth was improved by supplementing oxaloacetate. Further investigation showed that the presence of acetate was necessary when oxaloacetate was supplemented. By supplementing with 10 g/L of oxaloacetate in pyruvate batch fermentation, dry cell weight increased from 11.8 g/L to 13.6 g/L, and pyruvate productivity was enhanced from $0.96\;gL^{-1}h^{-1}\;to\;1.19 gL^{-1}h^{-1}$ after cultivation of 56 h. The yield of pyruvate to glucose was also improved from 0.63 g/g to 0.66 g/g. These results indicate that under vitamins limitation, the productivity and yield of pyruvate could be enhanced via an increase of cell growth by the supplementation of oxaloacetate.

  • Characteristics of color application indicated from Kirchsteigfeld is presented the various points of view to be preserved urban housing color. It had been handled as environmental color by view point of community and connectivity rather than color scheme of single housing. First, color to be consisted of basis for urban entirely as background color in urban housing complex has been indicated the bright and cheerful feelings and expressed to be introduced mostly from the single color system. Second, characteristics to be inhibited strongly from housing complex had been indicated by restricted four types of color, formulated the overall context and change through accent and the change from disposition of principal and the accessary of color scheme. In this case, it was not regular formulation, but as a whole category view, it could be provided by orderly regularity system strictly Particularly it had been applied as a whole for lightness change by single color, introduced the different color of building to be centered or remained by a visual point. This had been formed to introduction of color by stand points of housing group not introduction to color by sole concept of building. Third, emphasizing of morphologic feeling by using of difference of lightness, it could be indicated the mild and comfortable stereo-type sensibility from the overall types of housing, we could understand for formation of color code by lightness of slightly differences. Fourth, it had been taken the convenient adaptation method for maintenance of simple graphic system as a environmental color. It has considerable advantage for sustainability of color to indicate on finishing material, form and detail in architecture, as the sole separated color not to be complicated when to be painted over and again or managed continuously.
