DCM Analysis of Solar Array Regulator for LEO Satellites (저궤도 인공위성용 태양전력 조절기의 전류 불연속 모드 해석)

  • The solar array regulator for low earth orbit satellites controls a operating point of solar array for suppling electric power to the battery and the other units. Because the control object is reversed, the new approach for large and small signal analysis is needed despite using buck-converter for power stage. In this paper, the steady state analysis of solar array regulator is performed in continuous conduction mode and discontinuous conduction mode, and the border condition for each mode is established. Also, the small signal model of solar array regulator is established in discontinuous conduction mode. Experiments are carried on in worst condition which the solar array regulator can face with discontinuous conduction mode. The results show that the solar array regulator is in stable.

  • In this paper, the proposed charging algorithm is converted from the charging mode to compensate the transient state in the solar battery charging system. The maximum power point tracking (MPPT) control methods and the various charging algorithms for the optimal battery charging are reviewed. The proposed algorithm has excellent transient characteristics compare to the previous algorithm by adding the optimal control method to compensate the transient state when the charging mode switches from the constant current mode to the constant voltage mode based on the conventional constant-current constant-voltage (CC-CV) charging algorithm. The effectiveness of the proposed method has been verified by simulations and experimental results.

  • The lifetime of a battery that supplies all the power required by a satellite in the eclipse is directly related to the lifetime of the satellite. Because the lifetime of the battery is influenced by the charging method of the battery, the power control unit that controls the charging of the battery should be designed in consideration of battery life. The battery charging is performed by controlling the charge current in the power control unit generated from the solar cell in the daytime. In order to prevent overcharge of the battery and for considering frequency of eclipse in each season, parameters related battery charging should be designed differently according to the season and to prevent over-current charging and over-voltage charging during charging, charge current is controlled by monitoring battery charge / discharge status, charge current amount, battery voltage, battery capacity, battery temperature and battery cell voltage. In satellite, tapering method is used to control charge current by reflecting each condition. In this paper, design battery charging algorithm of satellite power control unit using tapering charging method. convert the designed algorithm into a code that can be uploaded to satellites and verify the operation through testing in the established satellite environment.

  • In this paper, a solar power emotional LED lightening street lamps with multi control sun tracker is presented. The proposed system has a multiple control sun tracking function and high quality emotional LED lamps. The system is designed to absorb maximum sun lights by temperature sensor and humidity sensor of control circuits. A battery charge-discharge controller is developed for high efficient usage of battery charger for utilization of new and renewal energy. An interface circuit for remote monitoring and controlling is included in the developed system. The proposed multi tracking solar power emotional LED street lamps is better than conventional systems in aspect of tracking operation and energy efficiency, and expected to be a leading model for next generation solar power street lamp system, because it is a new technology combining sun tracking solar power system and emotional lightening system.

A Study on the Solar Cell Charging Equipment for Hybrid Vehicle (Hybrid 자동차용 Solar Cell 충전장치에 관한 연구)

  • Hybrid car can improve fuel efficiency using a power of motor that is generated during constant-speed or deceleration driving. The motor is located between engine and transmission. But, when voltage of main battery is low, fuel efficiency is low because the voltage can't run the motor. In this situation, this study observed fuel efficiency when using solar cell for assistance power. In order to verify a fuel consumption of hybrid car equipped solar cell for assistance power, the car was tested downtown driving. As hybrid car was equipped solar cell for assistance, fuel consumption was reduced 8.35 % at running air conditioner. And, at air conditioner doesn't work, fuel consumption was reduced 6.88 %. This point of view, CO2 is expected to reduce in similar proportion.

  • Proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) is the most promising energy source for the robot applications because it has unique advantages such as high energy density, no power drop during operating, and easy to make compact size. However, PEMFC has intrinsic disadvantages which are delay to start up and difficulty to correspond drastic load changes. These disadvantages can be compensated by hybrid operating with a Li-poly battery. This study is focus to build and understand the hybrid system for the robot system. In this study, we build the PEMFC hybrid system using EOS-320 PEMFC stack, Li-poly battery and G-Philos FDX1-250BU dc-dc converter. The hybrid system is accurately monitored by CAN and RS485. The system was studied under two conditions such as non-loaded and loaded operating conditions. The results show that the system has delay to start up without hybrid operating and it can be compensated with the hybrid operating.

  • In this paper, the new improved method for photovoltaic system was studied available for a lighting load by measuring the state of charge of lead-acid batteries. Photovoltaic systems has been evaluated as one of the most new and renewable energy and especially, the Stand-Alone Photovoltaic system has been used to a street light, a road sign light, an air caution light, an emergency call. Many Stand-Alone PV system are installed by a group. Although the pre-installation cost of PV system is high and it has not been operated due to the absence of optimal management standards. In this paper, it is proposed a new operating method by the measurement of lead-acid battery's SOC with a Ah balancing.

  • In this paper, we have studied about minimizing the Energy Storage System (ESS) capacity for mitigating the fluctuation of Wind Turbine Generation System (WTGS) by using Electric Double Layer Capacitor (EDLC) and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). In this case, they have some different characteristics: The EDLC has the ability of generating the output power at high frequency. Thus, it is able to reduce the fluctuation of WTGS in spite of high cost. The BESS, by using Li-Ion battery, takes the advantage of high energy density, however it is limited to use at low frequency response. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed method, simulations are carried out with the actual data of 2MW WTGS in case of worst fluctuation of WTGS is happened. By comparing simulation results, this method shows the excellent performance. Therefore, it is very useful for understanding and minimizing the ESS capacity for mitigating the fluctuation of WTGS.

  • This paper presents the Performance of PV(Photovoltaic) system. the design of MPPT and the battery characteristic. The output power of PV depends on the environmental factors such as insolation and cell temperature. It is proposed that the MPPT is based on an simple power control algorithm. Furthermore the converter has to maintain the optimum duty ratio. A switching strategy of converter for battery may Protect against excessive discharge and overcharge. This paper includes discussion on system reliability power quality and effects of the randomness of the wind and the solar radiation on system design.
