  • Recently, Korea government decided to introduce RPS (Renewable Portfolio Standard) mechanism which requires electricity providers to gradually increase the amount of renewable energy sources such as wind, solar, bioenergy, and geothermal. As a consequence, it is expected that the long-term fuel mix would be changed to result in more expensive production and the increased production costs would be distributed to the rate payers via electricity tariffs. This paper presents the change in long-term fuel mix in year 2020 with the four RPS scenarios of 3%, 5%, 10% and 20%, and the methodologies for collecting the increased production costs through new tariff schedule. The studies on long-term fuel mix have been carried out with the GATE-PRO (Generation And Transmission Expansion Program) optimization package, a mixed-integer program developed by the Korea Energy Economics Institute and Hongik university. Three methodologies for distributing the production costs to the rate payers have also been demonstrated.

  • It is saving material cost and construction cost by replacing conventional building materials, and It has advantages for aesthetic value. In the Europe, the United States, Japan and other country research about BIPV is actively being carried out and marketability is also being infinity expanding. Arch type PV systems efficiency characteristics is different depending on PV array's directly connection, parallel connection and arches angle, but is a lack of analysis on this nowadays. When the arch type PV system design up, they consider about aesthetic value and they didn't consider about generation efficiency. In this paper, we try to improve the efficiency through optimization of arch type PV system and estimation of the efficiency parameters of the arch type PV system, such as latitude, longitude, temperature, insolation, arch angle and each kind loss from system organization. For improving Arched PV system efficiency, proposed multiple control inverter system, and using simulation tool of Arched PV system "Solar pro", flat-plate type and many arch type PV system configuration the driving characteristics were compared and analyzed.

  • Purpose: In design and planning Building Integrated Photovoltaic(BIPV) system can reduce cost by replacing building facade as construction material such as roofs, outer walls and windows as well as generating electricity. BIPV system should be applied at the early stage of architectural design. However, it is hard to decide whether using BIPV system or not for architects and builders who are not professional at BIPV system because performance of system is considerably influenced by types of module, installation position, installation methods and so on. It is also hard for experts because commercialized analytical program of photovoltaic systems is too complicated to use and domestic meteorological data is limited to partial areas. Therefore, we need evaluation program of BIPV system which can easily but accurately interpret generating performance and evaluate validity of BIPV system at the early stage of architectural design even for inexpert. Method: In this study, we collected meteorological data of domestic major region and analyzed generation characteristic of BIPV system by using PVsyst(commercialized software) in accordance with regions, types of solar module, place and methods of installation and so on. Based on this data, we developed performance evaluation program of BIPV system named BIPV-Pro, through multiple regression analysis and evaluated its validity. Result: When comparing predictive value of annual average PR and annual electricity production of BIPV-Pro an that of PVsyst, each of root mean square error was 0.01897 and 123.9.

  • In this study, we performed a sensitivity analysis to see how the true north error of a wind direction vane installed to a meteorological mast affects predictions of the annual-average wind speed and the annual energy production. For this study, two meteorological masts were installed with a distance of about 4km on the ridge in complex terrain and the wind speed and direction were measured for one year. Cross predictions of the wind speed and the AEP of a virtual wind turbine for two sites in complex terrain were performed by changing the wind direction from $-45^{\circ}$ to $45^{\circ}$with an interval of $5^{\circ}$. A commercial wind resource prediction program, WindPRO, was used for the study. It was found that the prediction errors in the AEP caused by the wind direction errors occurred up to more than 20% depending on the orography and the main wind direction at that site.

  • Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) is a regulatory policy that requires the generation companies to increase the proportion of renewable energy sources such as wind, solar, LFG, fuel cell, and small hydro. Recently, Korean government decided to increase the portion of renewable energy to 3% to total electricity generation by 2012 from the current level of 0.13%. To achieve this goal, an innovative plan for market competitiveness would be required in addition to the present Feed-In-Tariff (FIT). That is Korean government has taken it into consideration to introduce a Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) as an alternative to FIT. This paper reviews the impact of RPS on the long-term fuel mix in 2020. The studies have been carried out with the GATE-PRO (Generation And Transmission Expansion PROgram) program, a mixed-integer non-linear program developed by Hongik university and Korea Energy Economics Institute. Detailed studies on long-term fuel mix in Korea have been carried out with four RPS scenarios of 3%, 5%, 10% and 20%. The important findings and comments on the results are given to provide an insight on future regulatory policies.

  • The studies on the operating performance analysis or design about the fixed tilt angle flat-plate photovoltaic (PV) system are still lively going off. However the operating property analysis about the arch type PV system which means PV array were designed as round type is dissatisfied. In this paper, we theoretically established the factors which are cause of the deterioration in performance of arch type PV system. In addition, we use the Solar Pro simulation tools to design both flat-plate type and arch type 30kW PV systems. The simulations about arch type PV system applied two ways such as central inverter and string inverter were conducted. The performance ratio (PR) of the PV system with flat-plate type shows the highest value 74[%] when the tilt angle is 30°. In case of arch type, when applying central inverter method, PR value shows approximately 73[%] and no more difference with arch type of the PV array. This value shows 1[%] decrease compare with the flat-plate type. However when applying string inverter methods, the average PR value shows 80 % and 6% improved than the central inverter method.

  • This study aims to evaluate the illuminance performance of sloped light guide with automated venetian blind systems. For the purpose, a mock-up model was constructed as a prototype of Korean office building with $12.0m{\times}7.3m{\times}3.7m$ ($w{\times}d{\times}h$) and south facing side-window mounted between the clerestory window($2.0m^2$) and the view window($5.6m^2$). The light guide of 1.28m deepth and $29^{\circ}$ tilted angle, is covered with 0.6mm galvanized steel sheet and 97% reflective film. To protect the room from low solar angle, a blind systems, 0.15m deepth and $30^{\circ}$ automated slat angle was installed. To assess illuminance performance, the totally 37 measuring points for illuminance were monitored. For the detailed analysis, photometric sensors were installed at work-plane (8 points), wall (7 points), ceiling (3points), and exterior horizontal illuminance (1 point) respectively. The performance was measured under clear sky and is monitored by Agilent data logger, photometric sensor Li-cor and the Radiant Imaging ProMetric 1400. Comparisons of light factor and uniformity are discussed.

  • Image super-resolution (SR) is a technique that enhances the resolution of a low resolution image. In this study, we use three SR models (RCAN, ProSRGAN and Bicubic) for enhancing solar SDO/HMI magnetograms using deep learning. Each model generates a high resolution HMI image from a low resolution HMI image (4 by 4 binning). The pixel resolution of HMI is about 0.504 arcsec. Deep learning networks try to find the hidden equation between low resolution image and high resolution image from given input and the corresponding output image. In this study, we trained three models with HMI images in 2014 and test them with HMI images in 2015. We find that the RCAN model achieves higher quality results than the other two methods in view of both visual aspects and metrics: 31.40 peak signal-to-noise ratio(PSNR), Correlation Coefficient (0.96), Root mean square error (RMSE) is 0.004. This result is also much better than the conventional bi-cubic interpolation. We apply this model to a full-resolution SDO/HMI image and compare the generated image with the corresponding Hinode NFI magnetogram. As a result, we get a very high correlation (0.92) between the generated SR magnetogram and the Hinode one.

  • In order to test the recognition ability and accuracy of a target imaging simulator under the irradiation of solar stray light in a laboratory environment, it needs to be fixed on a five-axis turntable during a hardware-in-the-loop simulation test, so the optical system of the simulator should have a long exit pupil distance. This article adopts a secondary imaging method to design a projection optical system suitable for thin-film-transistor liquid crystal displays. The exit pupil distance of the entire optical system is 1,000 mm, and the final optimization results in the 400 nm-850 nm band show that the modulation transfer function (MTF) of the optical system is greater than 0.8 at the cutoff frequency of 72 lp/mm, and the distortion of each field of view of the system is less than 0.04%. Combined with the design results of the optical system, TracePro software was used to model the optical system, and the simulation of the target imaging simulator at the magnitude of -1 to +6 Mv was analyzed and verified. The magnitude error is less than 0.2 Mv, and the irradiance uniformity of the exit pupil surface is greater than 90%, which meets the requirements of the target imaging simulator.
