Very fine cobalt oxide ambigel powder were prepared using a unique solution chemistry associated with the sol-gel process. The mesoporous structure of the initial gel is maintained by removing fluid under conditions where the capillary forces that result extraction are either low or no existent, are either low or nonexistent. Controlling both the pore and solid architecture on the nanoscale offers a strategy for the design of supercapacitor. But $CoO_x$ have the low voltage, so we experiment using Co/PVA composite electrode.
Lead zirconate titanate(PZT) powders and thin films were prepared from an alkoxide-based solution by sol-gel method. Gelation of synthesized complex solutions, pyrolysis and crystallization behaviors of the dried powder were studied in accordance with a water content and a catalyst. PZT thin films were formed by spin-casting method on silicon and platinum substrates, and characterized. Ester produced from the reactions was completely removed when drying of the gel was finished. Pyrolysis property of the dried PZT gels were changed in order water content, class of catalyst, and quantity of catalyst. Crystalline Pb phase was transiently formed near 250$^{\circ}C$. Basic catalyst is good additive for a formation of perovskite phase in the films, and acidic catalyst for a densified film structure. By the analysis of RBS, Pb element in the PZT films were diffused into silicon substrate, and the pores, may be produced due to local densification around some grains in the films, make an origin of fault in microstructure when holding time goes to be longer at 700$^{\circ}C$.

Lanthanum aluminate($LaAlO_3$) film has been prepared on single crystal and metal substrates by dip coating method. Lanthanum acetate and aluminum were prepared via ligand exchange starting from lanthanum nitrate hexahydrate and aluminum nitrate hexahydrate in acetate glacial acetic acid solution after being refluxed. Coating solution was obtained by diluting the gel with methanol and 2-methoxyethanol to adjust the total cation concentration to 0.67 M. Precursor coated film was prepared by dip-coating with a speed of 25 mm/min on various substrates such as $LaAlO_3$ (001), MgO(001), $SrTiO_3$(001) single crystal, LMO/MgO/Ni-alloy. Thin films have been obtained by heat treating the precursor film at various temperatures from $600^{\circ}C{\sim}900^{\circ}C$ and various heating rate from $0.83^{\circ}C/min{\sim}1.25^{\circ}C/min$ under $Ar/O_2$ mixture containing 1000ppm oxygen. The films have been characterized by scanning electronic microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). XRD analysis for the prepared film showed that $LaAlO_3$ thin films with a preferred orientation of (100) plane parallel to substrate surface were obtained at $800^{\circ}C(1.11\;^{\circ}C/min)$ on LMO/MgO/Ni-alloy substrate, but the intensity decreased with the increase of heat treatment temperature.
This study was carried out to investigate the physical and thermal properties of ${\kappa}$-carrageenan (${\kappa}$-car) gel added whey protein isolate (WPI) as a cryoprotectant. The concentration of ${\kappa}$-carrageenan was fixed at 0.2 wt%. The mean ice crystal size of the WPI/${\kappa}$-car was decreased according to increasing whey protein isolate concentration. The temperature of gel-sol (Tg-s) and sol-gel (Ts-g) transition of WPI/${\kappa}$-car maxtrix was represented in the order of 3.0, 0.2, 5.0 and 1.0 wt%. In addition, the transition temperature of gel-sol of WPI in sucrose solution were showed in order of 1.0, 5.0, 0.2 and 3.0 wt% depending on whey protein isolate concentration. The shape of ice crystal was divided largely into two types, round and rectangular form. 1.0 wt% WPI/${\kappa}$-car matrix at pH 7 and 9 showed minute and rectangular formation of ice crystals and whey protein isolate in sucrose solution at a concentration of 1.0 wt% WPI/${\kappa}$-car matrix at pH 3 and 5 showed relatively large size and round ice crystals. The ice recrystallization characteristics and cryprotective effect of ${\kappa}$-carrageenan changed through the addition of different concentrations of whey protein isolate. It seems that the conformational changes induced interactions between whey protein isolate and ${\kappa}$-carrageenan affected ice recrystallization.
In this study, first the ADU gel particle, an intermediate for final $UO_2$ kernel of a HTGR nuclear fuel, was prepared from sol-gel method using the broth solution which was made by mixing of the uranyl nitrate, poly vinyl alcohol and tetra-hydrofurfuryl alcohol. The prepared dried-ADU gel particles were converted to the $UO_2\;via\;UO_3$ from thermal treatment with the 4% $H_2$ atmosphere. The sizes of the spherical liquid droplets appeared $1900{\sim}2100{\mu}m$, and the harmony between the flow rate of the broth solution and the frequency and the amplitude of a vibrating system are important factors for the spherical ADU gel particles via the mono size spherical droplets. From the XRD and FT-IR analyses, the prepared ADU gel particles were judged to be a $UO_3{\cdot}xNH_3{\cdot}yH_2O$ form, and the most important factor during the thermal treatment of the dried-ADU gel particle must be avoided a rapidly heating rate in the range of $180{\sim}400^{\circ}C$, and the heating rate should be kept below $5^{\circ}C/min$.
Because of the excellent thermal and chemical properties of mullite and cordierite as the stable oxide ceramic materials, they were widely used from engineering materials to electronic materials. Notwithstanding of their high demands, mullite was synthesised because it is not existed in nature. It is also difficult to produce cordierite of fine powder with high purity due to the narrow range of synthetic temperature. Mullite was synthesised by solid state reaction. However, synthesized mullite has been inhomogeneous. Because of the facts, various synthetic methods have been studied so far including sol-gel method. The purpose of this study is to synthesis mullite and cordierite of fine powder with high purity at the lower temperature by solution-polymerization route using PVA as a polymer carrier, which is an economical method by using low cost materials. As a result, mullite and cordierite were produced with mono crystal phase at 1200$^{\circ}C$ and 1250$^{\circ}C$, respectively, and their surface area over 20 ㎡/g.

Organic-inorganic hybrid coating solutions were prepared by using a sol-gel method for transparent film. In this study, colloidal silica (CS) and alkoxy silane such as vinyltrimethoxysilane (VTMS), and [3-(methacryloyloxy)]propyltri methoxy silane (MAPTMS) were used in various conditions such as types of organic silane, weight ratios of CS to silane and reaction times. Coating solutions which were bar coated on the PET (polyethyleneterephthalate) film and cured were investigated on the chemical and physical properties. The pencil hardness and adhesion of coating films were increased with increasing the organic silane content in the coating solution compared to that of PMMA (polymethamethylcrylate) coating solution.
PZT(53/47) precursor 1M sols were prepared using a diol based Sol-Gel process, and thin films were deposited by spin coating onto Pt/Ti/$SiO_2$/Si substrates. With a single coating, final film thickness of aproximately 0.9${\mu}m $ was achieved from diol-based PZT sol. Since PZT crystallized in a ferroelectric perovskite phase from an intermediate nonferroelectric pyrochlore phase, the effects of the presence of perovskite PZT seeds on the phase transformation of PZT were investigated. Seeded PZT films were prepared from the seeded PZT 1M sols in which seeds with less than 0.2${\mu}m $ in size and 1wt% were dispersed in n-propanol before mixing with the PZT stock solution. The seeding effects were confirmed by the fact that the formation temperature of perovskite phase decreased by 50$^{\circ}C$ with less than 1wt% seeds.

$CuInS_2$ thin films were prepared using a sol-gel spin-coating method. That makes large scale substrate coating, simple equipment, easy composition control available. The structural and optical properties of $CuInS_2$ thin films that include less toxic materials (S) instead of Se, tetragonal chalcopyrite structure. Copper acetate monohydrate ($Cu(CH_3COO)_2{\cdot}H2O$) and indium acetate ($In(CH_3COO)_3$) were dissolved into 2-propanol and l-propanol, respectively. The two solutions were mixed into a starting solution. The solution was dropped onto glass substrate, rotated at 3000 rpm, and dried at $300^{\circ}C$ for Cu-In as-grown films. The as-grown films were sulfurized inside a graphite container box and chalcopyrite phase of $CuInS_2$ was observed. To determine the optical properties measured optical transmittance of visible light region (380~770 nm) were less than 30 % in the overall. The XRD pattern shows that main peak was observed at Cu/In ratio 1.0 and its orientation was (112). As annealing temperature increases, the intensity of (112) plane increases. The unit cell constant are a = 5.5032 and c = 11.1064 $\AA$, and this was well matched with JCPDS card. The optical transmittance of visible region was below than 30 %.
