  • This experiment was conducted to evaluate the nutrient loss and to assess the eutrophication into small stream by intensive rains in the steeped cornfield during cultivation. The crop cultivated was a soiling com (DW5969), and the experimental plots were divided into two parts that were 10 and 18% of slope degrees. The amount of T-N and T-P loss was calculated by analysis of surface run-off water quality, and was investigated the effect of eutrophication to small stream as a part of life cycle assessment (LCA) methodology application. For the surface run-off water quality, EC and T-N values were highest in first runoff event as compared to the other events and maintained the stage state with litter variations at every hour during the runoff period except for EC in the slope 18%. However, T-P concentration has been a transient stage after runoff event of July 27. Total surface run-off ratio was not significantly different with slope degrees, but amount of T-N and T-P losses at 18% of slope were high as $5.96kg\;ha^{-1}\;and\;0.65kg\;ha^{-1}$ as relative to 10% of slope degree, respectively. Furthermore, T-N losses from run-off water in the sloped cornfield 10 and 18% were approximately 9.8 and 12.5% of the N applied as fertilizer when the fertilizer applied at recommended rates after soil test, respectively. For the eutrophication impact to the small stream, it was shown that $PO_4$ equivalence and Eco-indicator value at 18% of slope degree were greater as much $6.11kg\;ha^{-1}$ and 0.81 as compared to the slope angle 10%, respectively. Therefore, it was appeared that each effect of nutrient losses, eutrophication and Eco-indicator value was enhanced according with higher slope degree.

  • A re-pull-through operation for Hirschsprung's disease is performed when the primary operation has failed because of the remnant or acquired aganglionosis, anastomotic stricture and/or fistula. The purpose of this study is to review our experience of the re-pull-through procedure for Hirschsprung's disease. From May 1978 to July 2003, 26 patients who underwent re-pull-through operations at the Department of Pediatric Surgery, Seoul National University Children's Hospital, were studied retrospectively by means of chart review as well as telephone interview. The mean age at primary operation and re-operation were llmonths (2 months - 10 years) and 43 months (1 year - 23 years 3 months), respectively. Initial operation for Hirschsprung's disease was Duhamel's procedure in 17, Swenson's in 6 and Soave's 3. Causes of failure of primary operation were remains of secondary aganglionic segment (n=23), vascular arcade injury (n= 1), rectoperineal fistula (n=2, due to mesenteric torsion and poor blood supply), Mean interval between the primary operation and the re-operation was 34 months (6 months-22 years). Reoperation methods were Soave's in 12, Duhamel's in 8, APSP (abdomino-posterosagittal pull-through procedure) in 5, and Swenson's in 1 case. In 2 cases of repeated rectoperineal fistula or rectourethral fistula, re-APSP were performed 3 times, respectively. A total of 29 re-pull-through operations were performed. Postoperative complications were wound infection (n=1), adhesive ileus (n=1), rectoperineal fistula (n=3), rectourethral fistula (n=2), and death due to pulmonary embolism (n=1). Mean follow up period of reoperation was 78 months (1 month-23years). In current state, 2 patients have an ileostomy because of repeated rectoperineal fistula and rectourethral fistula. Of the remaining 23 patients, 21(91 %) are totally continent with or without minimal soiling. Reoperation for Hirschsprung's disease was effective and safe for the patients complicated to the initial pull-through operation.

  • This experiment was canied out to determine the effects of 3cn1, 6cm, and lOcm of cutting height at harvest on the grass growth, dry matter(DM) yield, and weeds development in reed canarygrass(Phu1uris umndinacea L.) pasttire. The cultivars of reed canarygrass used in this study were Palaton. Veuture and Frontier(contro1). and the grass was harvested four times at soiling stage in 1992. The plant height at first harvest was 84, 96 and 94cm in Palaton, Venture and Frontier, respectively. The average regrowth height was same as 59cm in three cultivars. However, the regrowth height by cutting height was 61 -65cm in 6 and IOcm, and 51 -53cm in 3cm of low cutting height. Annual DM yield was not different in three cultivars of Palaton(l2.58lkg), Venture(l2,752kg), and Frontier (12,243kgIha). The yield at first harvmt wa5 significantly high in 3cm of height, however, the forage yields at second, third and fourth harvest were greatly high in 6cm of stubble height(P<0.05). Total yields by 3, 6 and lOcm of cutting height were 12.306. 14,094 and 11,342kg in Palaton, 12,794, 14,155 and 11,307kg in Venture, and 12,258, 12,940, and 11.535kglhg in Frontier, respectively. The highest yield was achieved in 6cm of stubble heigth(P<0.05). Daily DM production during grass regrowth was not affected by cultivars, and the best regrowth was observed by 6cm of cutting height. Development of weeds was high in 3cm of low stubble height, regradless of cultivars. The contents of crude protein, neutral detergent fiber, acid detergent fiber, and hemicellulose were not affected by cultivar and cutting height. In conclusion, it is suggested that the 6cm of cutting height is the most effective for grass regrowth, forage production, and weed control in reed canarygrass pasture. regradless of cultivm of Palaton, Venture and Frontier.

  • The SLODSVAT consists of interrelated submodels that simulate : the transfer of radiation, water vapour, sensible heat, carbon dioxide and momentum in two canopy layers determined by environmental conditions and ecophysiological properties of the vegetation ; uptake and storage of water in the "root-stem-leaf" system of plants ; interception of rainfall by the canopy layers and infiltration and storage of rain water in the four soil layers. A comparison of the results of modeling experiments and field micro-climatic observations in a spruce forest(Picea abies [L].Karst) in the Soiling hills(Germany) shows, that the SLODSVAT can describe and simulate the short-term(diurnal) as well as the long-term(seasonal) variability of water vapour and sensible heat fluxes adequately to natural processes under different environmental conditions. It proves that it is possible to estimate and predict the transpiration and evapotranspiration rates for spruce forest ecosystems on the patch and landscape scales for one vegetation period, if certain meteorological, botanical and hydrological information for the structure of the atmospheric boundary layer, the canopy and the soil are available.

  • Barnyard millet (Echinochloa esculenta) can be processed through soiling, hay, and silage, depending on the weather conditions during harvesting. However, research on barnyard millet is insufficient, and standards for cultivar, seeding density, and fertilizers have not been established. This study was conducted to examine the effects of seeding density and seeding methods on dry matter yields. For this, we used the early-maturing (Shirohie millet) variety of the barnyard millet. The experimental design included different seeding density (10 kg/ha, 15 kg/ha, 20 kg/ha (standard seeding density), 25 kg/ha and 30 kg/ha), and different methods of seeding (drill seeding and broadcast seeding). The seeding date was May 13, 2021, and the harvest date was July 13, 2021. Harvesting was carried out when the heading reached 40 %. Lodging occurred at 5, 9 and 7 at 20, 25 and 30 kg/ha densities in the broadcast seeding, but not in the drill seeding. With decreasing density of seeding, tillage number showed an increasing trend in both drill seeding and broadcast seeding (p>0.05). The plant heights were comparable in both drill seeding and broadcast seeding (p>0.05). The heading stage of barnyard millet was checked July 7 for drill seeding, and, on July 8 for broadcast seeding. It took 62 days, i.e., till July 13 for the heading to reach 40 % of the output. The dry matter yield of barnyard millet was significantly higher at the seeding density of 30 kg/ha, for both the methods of seeding (p<0.05). There was no difference in the chemical composition of grain, based on the seeding method and seeding density. However, as the seeding density increased, the CP, NDF, ADF, and TDN contents increased in both drill seeding and broadcast seeding. We found that, the dry matter content was the highest at the seeding density of 30 kg/ha for both the methods of seeding, but this was only 1.3 times higher than that of 10 kg/ha. Considering the seed price and labor force involved in seeding, it is advisable to have a seeding density of 15-20 kg/ha.

  • This paper studies the method of estimating power loss and classifying the factors for improving the power generation efficiency through O&M. It is installed under various climatic conditions worldwide, operational and maintenance technologies suitable for the characteristics of the installation location are required. Existing studies related to solar power generation efficiency have been actively quantifying the impact on short-term losses by environmental factors such as high temperature, dust accumulation, precipitation, humidity, and wind speed, but analysis of the overall impact from a long-term operation perspective is limited. In this study, the potential for efficiency improvement was analyzed by re-establishing a loss classification system according to the power flow of solar power to derive a comprehensive efficiency model for long-term operation and estimating power loss through a case study for each region where climate conditions are classified. As a result of the analysis, the average annual potential for improving soiling loss was 26.9%, Death Valley 7.2%, and Seoul 3.8%. Aging losses was 6.6% in the 20th year as a cumulative. The average annual potential due to temperature loss was 2.9 % for Doha, 1.9% for Death Valley, and 0.2% for Seoul.

  • In this study, materials and color formation techniques were assessed for black potteries excavated from the Janghyeon-dong, Jungsan-dong and Gyodong-ri sites during the Proto-Three Kingdoms period in Ulsan, Korea. Although the black potteries were black superficially, the inner cores were either black or reddish yellow. Microscopy analysis identified that body clay was used for reddish iron oxide rich soils with quartz, alkali feldspar and mica, along with grains of myrmechite texture. Additionally, as marginal differences exist in the contents of SiO2, Fe2O3 and CaO, the composition of the host rock and clay distributed around the sites was affected. Thus, we can deduce that pottery was made by soiling at a short distance. Raman spectroscopy results revealed that the black layer of the black pottery was used as amorphous combustion carbon. In addition, as a transparent layer of brown lacquer was observed on the substrate that was in contact with the surface layer, the black layer of the pottery induced black color development by a combination of combustion carbon and lacquer. Based on the mineral composition and microtexture of the body clay, the firing temperature of the potteries seemed to range from 750 to 850℃, whereas the lacquer layer was pyrolyzed at 468℃ by thermal analysis. Therefore, a combined layer of combustion carbon and lacquer, which formed the black color, was painted after the body clay was fired.

  • Since summer growth depression of forage crops limits hay production in Korea, it is important to exploit natural resources which are suitable as forage. In the preliminary experiment it was found that Panicum dichotomiflorum Michx. might be utilized as soiling and hay crop. Effects of seed stratificaion, planting date and number of harvestings on fresh and dry yields of Panicum dichotomiflorum Michx. were investigated in 1993 and 1994. Stratification of seed promoted emergence, while seed age decreased emergence. Although fresh yield was closely related with number of plants estabilished per unit area, effect of number of plants per unit area on yield was less at the later stage of growth. Higher cutting height decreased fresh and dry yield at th early stage, but final yields were not influenced by cutting height. Panicum dichotomiflorum Michx. could be harvested 3~4 times beginning 40~50 days after planting and fresh and dry yields were 9~10 tons /10a and 1.4~1.8 tons /10a, respectively. Fresh and dry yields were significantly influenced by growth duration or accumulated temperature between cuttings. Leaf blade ratio was higher at earlier planting and / or harvesting. Contens of crude protein, crude fat and crude ash were 16.32, 24.01 and 11.59%, respectively.
