The root pile system is insitu soil reinforcement technique that uses a series of reticulately installed micropiles. In terms of mechanical improvement by means of grouted reinform ming elements, the root pile system is similar to the soil nailing system. The main difference between root piles and soil nailing are due to the fact that the reinforcing bars in root piles are normally grouted under high pressure and that the alignments of the reinforcing members differ. Recently, the root pile system has been broadly used to stabilize slopes and retain excavations. The accurate design of the root pile system is, however, a very difficult tass owing to geometric variety and statical indetermination, and to the difficulty in the soilfiles interaction analysis. As a result, moat of the current design methods have been heavily dependent on the experiences and approximate approach. This paper proposes a quasi-three dimensional method of analysis for the root pile system applied to the stabilization of slopes. The proposed methods of analysis include i) a technique to estimate the change in borehole radium as a function of the grout pressure as well as a function of the time when the grout pressure is applied, ii) a technique to evaluate quasi -three dimensional limit-equilibrium stability for sliding, iii) a technique to predict the stability with respect to plastic deformation of the soil between adjacent root piles, and iv) a quasi -three dimensional finite element technique to compute stresses and dis placements of the root pile structure barred on the generalized plane strain condition and composite unit cell concept talon형 with considerations of the group effect and knot effect. By using the proposed technique to estimate the change in borehole radius as a function of the grout pressure as well as a function of the time, the estimations are made and compar ed with the Kleyner 8l Krizek's experimental test results. Also by using the proposed quasi-three dimensional analytical method, analyses have been performed with the aim of pointing out the effects of various factors on the interaction behaviors of the root pile system.
Based on pile load test results for various pile types that were constructed in-situ and pile design data of prebored PHC piles, the ratio of skin friction to total capacity (SRF) was analyzed. A SRF distribution range from the pile load test results for pilot test prebored PHC piles was 42~99% regardless of relative penetration lengths, soil types, and pile load test types. However, a SRF distribution range from the pile design data for prebored PHC piles was 20~53% regardless of relative penetration lengths and pile diameters. Also, a SRF distribution range from the restrike dynamic pile load test results for pretest working prebored PHC piles was a scattered range of 4~83% regardless of pile diameters, relative penetration lengths and soil types. The scattered SRF of pretest working piles was caused to the quality control issue on the filling of cement milk around piles and this quality control issue should be improved. The average SRF calculated by the current design method was estimated to be 2.2 times lower than the average SRF of the pilot test piles. It is because skin friction resistance is calculated at a very low level. Therefore, a new design method for skin friction will be proposed based on this study.
The use of filling material based on cement paste is inefficient at field construction because it needs a lot of the charging mass. In addition, it has environmental problem according to the large amount of cement use because its strength is also larger than criterion. The excavated soil with stabilizer can be used as the filling materials when the bored pile is constructed. Therefore, this paper describes field application of solidified soil for economical efficiency and environment-friendly. The static axial load tests and the load-transfer measurements were performed to examine the axial resistant behavior of the piles. As results, the flowability, segregation and bleeding, and bond strength of filling materials was a good performance than that of the existing cement paste. But the skin friction of pile by PDA was slightly decreased than that of the existing cement paste. However, as pile filling materials, and in terms of economics and environment, the applicability of filling material is considered very effective.
Skin friction of prebored and precast pile may be one of the most critical factors affecting the bearing capacity and settlement. Special attention was given to the interface behavior of pile-cement milk-surrounding soil when the load is acting on the prebored and precast pile. The cases of single pile were analyzed through a three-dimensional finite element approach and pile loading tests. A series of numerical analyses of the interface of pile-cement milk-soil was conducted with the proposed t-z curve and field measurements. It is shown that the use of cement milk around the pile increases the skin friction and reduces the pile settlement. It is also known that the suggested t-z curve between the cement milk and the soil, enhances the accuracy of the numerical analysis results.
The standard construction manual of the SDA(Separated Doughnut Auger) piling method was proposed so that the resisting capacity of the augered piles could work effectively. 405 dynamic pile load tests and 30 static pile load tests were performed for 265 test piles, which were installed by the SDA piling method in 33 sites in Korea. The results of the pile load tests showed that the end bearing capacity of the SDA augered piles depended on the property of various soil stratums and did not agree with ones estimated by the existing formula based on several standard design codes. On the basis of the pile load test results, four formulas were presented according to bearing stratums to estimate quantitatively the unit end bearing capacity of the SDA augered piles. The formulas for the unit end bearing capacity of piles on soils or weathered rocks were related to N-value given by SPT(Standard Penetration Test), while the unit end bearing capacity on bedrock was suggested to be more than 1500 $tf/m^2$. The presented formulas were compared with the existing formulas, which were presented by several standard design codes to design the augered piles. In order to use correctly the presented formulas, the quality of Standard Penetration Test should be controlled precisely. Also it is desirable to choose a pilot construction site, where both dynamic and static pile load tests are performed.

The bearing methods using pile of steel itself or reinforced concrete has been applying which in excavated depth was not deep. Also, the retaining wall as resisting structure to lateral force has taken weakness that the cure periods of concreted is long. Recently, with the material cost of steel, the application of cement is more increasing trend. In this study, the design methods of earth retaining and retention wall within the pre-casted concrete pile, PHC(Pretentioned spun High strength Concrete piles), was proposed which in the ground condition of excavated depth was not deep. The typical ground conditions, cohesive and non-cohesive soil, was considered as follows; soil strength as internal friction angle and UU(Undrained Unconsolidation triaxial test) strength, soil reaction and stabilization of structures. The application of design methods could be confirmed through the comparing and analyzing between measured data and utility software for the design.

In January 2022, a new legislation was enforced to enhance the safety of underground construction. Consequently, a comprehensive assessment of underground safety is now an integral part of the planning process, including an evaluation of its impact. Ensuring the stability of temporary retaining walls during underground excavation has become paramount, prompting a heightened focus on the assessment of underground safety. This study delves into the analysis of the Multi-axis Flat Continuous Soil Cement Wall retaining wall (MFS) construction method. This method facilitates the expansion of wall thickness in the ground and provides flexibility in selecting and spacing H-piles. Through laboratory model tests, we scrutinized the load-displacement behavior of the wall, varying the H-pile installation intervals using the MFS method. Additionally, a 3-dimensional numerical analysis was conducted to explore the influence of H-pile installation intervals and sizes on the load for different thicknesses of the MFS retaining wall. The displacement analysis yielded the calculation of the height of the arching effect acting on the wall. To further our understanding, a design method was introduced, quantitatively analyzing the results of axial force and shear force acting on the wall. This involved applying the maximum arching height, calculated by the MFS method, to the existing member force review method. The axial force and shear force, contingent on the H-pile installation interval and size applied to the MFS retaining wall, demonstrated a reduction effect ranging from 24.6% to 62.9%.
A series of model tests and analyses by load transfer function were performed to study load-settlement behaviour with relative compaction ratio of soil and embeded depth of pile. In the model tests, embeded depth ratio(L/D) of pile were installed 15, 20, 25 and relative compaction of soil(RC) is 85%, 95% and then cement were injected at around perimeter of pile. For analysis of embedded pile, the paper were compared results of model tests with analysis results by Vijayvergiya model and Castelli model, Gwizdala model of elastic plasticity-perfect plastic model and then the fitness load transfer mechanism was proposed to predict load-settlement behaviour of embeded pile. The analysis results of predicted bearing capacity by load transfer function, ultimate bearing capacity of embeded pile were approached to measured value and behaviour of initial load-settlement curve were estimated that load transfer function by Castelli were similar to measured value. The result of axial load analysis of bored pile shows that skin friction estimated by load transfer mechanism is investigated more a little than that of measured values.

An excavation with the depth of 32.7m will be constructed as a ventilation shaft in Shanghai metro Line 9. The excavation induced effect on a nearby undercrossing road in operation must be properly evaluated. A centrifuge model test was conducted to study the impact of deep excavation on this existing undercrossing. Detail simulation works are described in this paper. The excavation steps could be simulated in the no-stop state of centrifuge machine. And induced settlements of the undercrossing road in both parallel and vertical directions were analyzed. Protective partition cement soil piles were also simulated in the tests. Simulation test shows deep excavation has a great influence on undercrossing road and the partition pile can obviously deduce the influence.

Rapid urbanization of many cities require large scale constructions such as high rise buildings in difficult ground conditions. SIP(Soil-cement Injected Precast pile) type piles are tile most popular choice of foundation method in soft ground as well as layered ground in many cities in Korea since SIP offer negligible amount of noise and vibration. But SIP method of construction provide wide range of pile capacity depending on the construction method, equipment, ground conditions and quality control method etc. Therefore this paper intend to investigate the reliability of SIP pile in layered ground through a comparison of existing design formulars and SIP pile load test.
