In this paper, a model for simulating synthetic aperture radar(SAR) images of earth surfaces. The earth surfaces include forest area, rice crop field, other agricultural fields, grass field, road, and water surface. At first, the backscattering models are developed for bare soil surfaces, water surfaces, short vegetation fields such as rice fields and grass field, other agriculture areas, and forest areas. Then, the SAR images are generated from the digital elevation model(DEM) and digital terrain map. The DTM includes ten parameters, such as soil moisture, surface roughness, canopy height, leaf width, leaf length, leaf density, branch length, branch density, trunk length, and trunk density, if applicable. The scattering models are verified with measurements, and applied to generate an SAR image for an area.
Melting curve analysis of fluorescently labeled DNA fragments is used extensively for genotyping single nucleotide polymorphism(SNP). Here, we evaluated a SNP genotyping method by melting curve analysis with the two probe chemistries in a 384-well plate format on a Roche LightCycler 480. The HybProbe chemistry is based on the fluorescence resonance energy transfer(FRET) and the SimpleProbe chemistry uses a terminal self-quenching fluorophore. We evaluated FRET HybProbes and SimpleProbes for two SNP sites closely linked to two quantitative trait loci(QTL) for southern root-knot nematode resistance. These probes were used to genotype the two parents and 94 $F_2$ plants from the cross of PI 96354$\times$Bossier. The SNP genotypes of all samples determined by the LightCycler software agreed with previously determined SSR genotypes and the SNP genotypes determined on a Luminex 100 flow cytometry instrument. Multiplexed HybProbes for the two SNPs showed a 98.4% success rate and 100% concordance between repeats two of the same 96 DNA samples. Also, we developed a HybProbe assay for the Rcs3 gene conditioning broad resistance to the frogeye leaf spot(FLS) disease. The LightCycler 480 provides rapid PCR on 384-well plate and allows simultaneous amplification and analysis in approximately 2 hours without any additional steps after amplification. This allowed for a reduction of the potential contamination of PCR products, simplicity, and enablement of a streamlined workflow. The melting curve analysis on the LightCycler 480 provided high-throughput and rapid SNP genotyping and appears highly effective for marker-assisted selection in soybean.
This paper describes a simplified design method of stabilizing piles based on an experimental tests and an analytical study which can take into account the safety factor of slope and pile spacing. The nonlinear characteristics of the soil-pile interaction for stabilizing piles are modeled by using load transfer method. The interaction factors due to pile spacing and cap rigidity were estimated by using a three dimensional nonlinear finite element approach and laboratory tests. Based on the results obtained, the interaction factors are proposed quantitatively for one-row pile groups with spacing-to-diameter ratios varying far 2.5 to 7.0. The Bishop's simplified method of slope stability analysis is extended to incorporate the soil-pile interaction and determine the safety factor of the reinforced slope. Through the comparative study, it is found that the prediction by present approach is in relatively good agreement with the results of centrifuge tests and field tests and three dimensional finite element analyses.
Macronutrients ($Na^+$, $K^+$, $Ca^{2+}$, $Mg^{2+}$), yield and yield components, bioaccumulation and translocation of metal in plant parts of three Vigna species (V. cylindrica, V. mungo, V. radiata) were evaluated at 0, 50, 100 and $150mgkg^{-1}$ soil of Nickel (Ni). A marked inhibition (p < 0.001) in the distribution of various macronutrients was noticed in these Vigna species except for $Mg^{2+}$ content of the shoot and leaves. Similarly, all species retained more $Ca^{2+}$ in their roots (p < 0.05) as compared to the aerial tissues. Ni induced a drastic decline (p < 0.001) for various yield and yield attributes except for 100 seed weight. Toxicity and accumulation of Ni in plant tissues considerably increased in a concentration dependent manner. Vigna species signify an exclusion approach for Ni tolerance as both bioaccumulation factor (BF) and translocation factor (TF) were less than 1.0. The Ni content of plants being root > shoot > leaves > seeds. Scoring for percentage stimulation and inhibition (respective to control) at varying levels of Ni revealed tolerance of the species in an order of V. radiata > V. cylindrica > V. mungo. The acquisition of Ni tolerance in V. radiata seems to occur through an integrated mechanism of metal tolerance that includes sustainable macronutrients uptake, stronger roots due to greater deposition of $Ca^{2+}$in the roots, restricted transfer of Ni to above ground tissues and seeds as well as exclusion capacity of the roots to bind appreciable amount of metal to them. Thus, metal tolerant potential of V. radiata could be of great significance to remediate metal contaminated soil owing lesser impact of Ni on macro-nutrients, hence the yield.

Toxicity estimation of three nonionic surfactants (Brij 30, Tween 80, Triton X-lOO) and their effect on the biodegradation of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in the aqueous phase and soil slurry phase were investigated. Brij 30 was found to be the most biodegradable among the surfactants tested, and showed no substrate inhibition up to a concentration of 1.5 g/L. It was definitely utilized as a carbon source by the microorganisms. Naphthalene and phenanthrene in the aqueous phase were completely degraded by phenanthrene-acclimated cultures within 60 hours, but a substantial amount of naphthalene was lost due to the volatilization. The limiting step in the soil slurry bioremediation was bioavailablity by the microorganisms in the sand slurry and mass transfer from a solid to aqueous phase in the clay slurry. TOC analysis revealed that most of substrates including surfactant in the reactor were degraded. pH transition indicated that phenanthrene was metabolized into intermediates containing acid function.

Physical parameters such as porosity and effective porosity are important physical parameters that determine the transfer and movement of water and solutes in porous media. Various methods of determining these parameters have been developed, with varying degrees of accuracy and applicability. Most of the existing methods produce static results. They do not produce instantaneous and real time of porosity and effective porosity in a porous media. In this study, a new permittivity method called Frequency Domain Reflectometry with Vector analyzer (FDR-V) is proposed to determine the porosity and effective porosity of some sand samples in the laboratory. The advantage of the FDR-V method is that it instantaneously determines the temporal variation of dielectric constants of porous media. Then, the porosity and the effective porosity of porous media are computed using well established empirical equations. Results obtained from the FDR-V method compared favorably with results from other permittivity methods such as gravimetric, injection and replacement tests. The ratio of effective porosity to porosity was $85{\sim}92%$, when FDR-V was used. This value compared favourably with 90%, which has been usually quoted in previous studies. Considering the convenience and its applicability, the measurement system of FDR-V permittivity holds a great potential in porous media and contaminant transport studies.
Rhodiola sachalinensis has been used as a traditional medicine in Asia. We were germination in vitro seedling of grow naturally in Chang bai Moutain. And callus induction from leaf segments, treatmented plant regeneration in plant growth regulators (Auxins and cytokinins). We investigated optimal conditions for efficient plant regeneration through callus induction and shoots formation on medium with various kinds of growth regulators. Callus induction and adventitious shoots formation was achieved when cytokinin and auxin combinated to this experiment. Especially, there was the highest callus induction rates when we were used to 1 mg/L kinetin and 2 mg/L NAA $(98\%)$, Adventitious shoots formation wear obtained difference rate when cytokinin alone 1 mg/L BA $(96.6\%)$. And regenerated plantlet was acclimatized and transplanted to the soil, showed $100\%$ survival.
Black carbon (BC), a kind of high surface area carbonaceous material (HSACM), was isolated from Andong lake sediment. Sorption and desorption kinetics of naphthalene (Naph) and phenanthrene (Phen) in organic carbon (OC) and BC in the Andong lake sediment were investigated. Several kinetic models such as one-site mass transfer model (OSMTM), two-compartment first-order kinetic model (TCFOKM), and a newly proposed modified two-compartment first-order kinetic model (MTCFOKM) were used to describe the sorption and desorption kinetics. The MTCFOKM was the best fitting model. The MTCFOKM for sorption kinetics showed that i) the sorbed amounts of PAHs onto BC were higher than those onto OC, consistent with BET surface area; ii) the equilibration time for sorption onto BC was longer than those onto OC due to smaller size of micropore ($11.67{\AA}$) of BC than OC ($38.18{\AA}$); iii) initial sorption velocity of BC was higher than OC; and iv) the slow sorption velocity in BC caused the later equilibrium time than OC even though the fast sorption velocity was early completed in both BC and OC. The MTCFOKM also described the desorption of PAHs from the OC and BC well. After desorption, the remaining fractions of PAHs in BC were higher than those in OC due to stronger PAHs-BC binding. The remaining fractions increased with aging for both BC and OC.
This study presents the findings of the structural health monitoring and the real time system identification of one of the first large scale building instrumentations in Turkey for earthquake safety. Within this context, a thorough review of steps in the instrumentation, monitoring is presented and seismic performance evaluation of structures using both nonlinear pushover and nonlinear dynamic time history analysis is carried out. The sensor locations are determined using the optimal sensor placement techniques used in NASA for on orbit modal identification of large space structures. System identification is carried out via the stochastic subspace technique. The results of the study show that under ambient vibrations, stocky buildings can be substantially stiffer than what is predicted by the finite element models due to the presence of a large number of partitioning walls. However, in a severe earthquake, it will not be safe to rely on this resistance due to the fact that once the partitioning walls crack, the bare frame contributes to the lateral stiffness of the building alone. Consequently, the periods obtained from system identification will be closer to those obtained from the FE analysis. A technique to control the validity of the proportional damping assumption is employed that checks the presence of phase difference in displacements of different stories obtained from band pass filtered records and it is confirmed that the "proportional damping assumption" is valid for this structure. Two different techniques are implemented for identifying the influence of the soil structure interaction. The first technique uses the transfer function between the roof and the basement in both directions. The second technique uses a pre-whitening filter on the data obtained from both the basement and the roof. Subsequently the impulse response function is computed from the scaled cross correlation between the input and the output. The overall results showed that the structure will satisfy the life safety performance level in a future earthquake but some soil structure interaction effects should be expected in the North South direction.

A lot of long-span marine bridge, which connects land to island or island to island, are being designed and constructed lately in south-west coast in South Korea. In the past, caisson foundations in marine were mainly adopted in construction and stability aspect, however, nowadays with development of pile construction technology, drilled shaft foundations are mainly adopted. As the long span cable stayed bridge and suspension bridge applied with lots of loads are being designed, the scale of pile foundations are getting larger. As the construction cost of substructure including foundation in marine bridges is too high, the appropriate evaluation of the axial bearing capacity of pile becomes a core factor to decide the construction cost of foundation if the drilled shaft is adopted as foundation type of bridge. The evaluation values of skin friction and end bearing capacity of drilled shaft in weathered rock suggested in south Korea are only to introduce the foreign specifications, and most of them are designed in a kind of hard soil layer. Also the allowable load of pile section is less than the expected bearing capacity of pile in the soil condition since the allowable capacity of pile is undervalued. Recently in order to improve this factor the bi-axial hydraulic load test of pile was taken, the data of load transfer analysis of pile, unit of skin friction and end bearing capacity are accumulated. In our country, the design of piles are made with ASD, however, LRFD considering service, strength and extreme state was adopted in Incheon Grand Bridge implemented with BTL, and the research to systematize the resistance coefficient appropriate at home country are being progressed.
