A lot of organic wastes have been produced from diverse industries, they must be tested by the regulation of fertilizer control act if reuse the organic wastes for agricultural utilization. The regulation has had only two criteria; the content of organic matter and 8 heavy metals. This study was conducted to evaluation trace element (boron, cobalt, molybdenum, and selenium) and distribution of organic compounds with different classification for complement the regulation in 16 organic waste materials(62 samples) collected from different regions and industries. Contents of boron(leather industry sludge, $154.2mg\;kg^{-1}$; food company sludge, $57.1mg\;kg^{-1}$), cobalt(industrial area sewage sludge, $95.2mg\;kg^{-1}$; metropolitan sewage sludge, $22.9mg\;kg^{-1}$), molybdenum(metropolitan sewage sludge, $40.1mg\;kg^{-1}$; food company sludge, $16.8mg\;kg^{-1}$), selenium (fiber industry sludge, $28.1mg\;kg^{-1}$; leather industry sludge, $16.9mg\;kg^{-1}$; food company sludge, $15.9mg\;kg^{-1}$) were highest compare to the other organic wastes. Total PAHs contents were the highest in paper-mill manufacture($3,462ug\;kg^{-1}$), and among the 16 PAHs, naphthalene, phenanthrene, pyrene, fluoroanthene, Anthracene and acenaphthene were detected more clearly than others in all kinds of organic resources.

For the recycling of sludge as soil conditioner, the firing technology in pottery industry was applied to the sludge treatment, and produced artificial media with many voids. To produce artificial media using sludge, chabazite and lime were used as additives, and the mixture of sludge and additives was thermally treated in the firing kiln at about $800{\sim}1,100^{\circ}C$ for about ten minutes. The effect of mixed artificial media into upland soil was investigated through the crop growth experiment and the physical & chemical characteristics of the mixed soils were analysed. The pH of artificial media was higher than that of the control soils. After the plant growth experiment, artificial media plots almost contained more CEC, OM, TN, TP and $AV.P_2O_5$ than upland soil plots. From the growth analysis, growth of soybean and corn in the artificial media plots was better than that in the original upland soil plots. The yield of soybean and corn in the artificial media plots were about 46kg/10a, 194kg/10a, respectively, which is higher than that in the control. Heavy metals in the artificial media plots were lower than the standard regulation. Therefore, the artificial media produced from sludge can be mixed into farmland, and crop production can be increased additionally.
The rhizosphere is the active zone where plant roots communicate with the soil microbiome, each responding to the other's signals. The soil microbiome within the rhizosphere that is beneficial to plant growth and productivity is known as plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR). PGPR take part in many pivotal plant processes, including plant growth, development, immunity, and productivity, by influencing acquisition and utilization of nutrient molecules, regulation of phytohormone biosynthesis, signaling, and response, and resistance to biotic- and abiotic-stresses. PGPR also produce secondary compounds and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that elicit plant growth. Moreover, plant roots exude attractants that cause PGPR to aggregate in the rhizosphere zone for colonization, improving soil properties and protecting plants against pathogenic factors. The interactions between PGPR and plant roots in rhizosphere are essential and interdependent. Many studies have reported that PGPR function in multiple ways under the same or diverse conditions, directly and indirectly. This review focuses on the roles and strategies of PGPR in enhancing nutrient acquisition by nutrient fixation/solubilization/mineralization, inducing plant growth regulators/phytohormones, and promoting growth and development of root and shoot by affecting cell division, elongation, and differentiation. We also summarize the current knowledge of the effects of PGPR and the soil microbiota on plants.

Phytophthora blight is a devastating disease of pepper and occurs almost anywhere peppers are grown. Phytophthora blight is caused by Phytophthora capsici and this pathogen can infect every part of the plant by moving inoculum in the soil, by infecting water on surface, by aerial dispersal to sporulating lesions. Management of Phytophthora blight currently relies on cultural practices, crop rotation, and use of selective fungicides. Since these treatments are a short-term management, a classical breeding for development of resistant pepper against the Phytophthora is an alternative. So far some of the resistant cultivars have been on the market, but those are limited regionally and commercially. Therefore, ultimately an elite line resistant against this disease should be developed, if possible, by biotechnology. We have set out a series of work recently in order to develop Phytophthora resistant pepper cultivar. For the first time, the cDNA microarray analysis was peformed using an EST chip that holds around 5000 pepper EST clones to identify genes responsive to Phytophthora infection. Total RNA samples were obtained from Capsicum annuum PI201234 after inoculating P. capsici to roots and soil and exposed to the chip. .Around 900 EST clones were up-regulated and down-regulated depending on the two RNA sample tissues, leaf and root. From those, we have found 55 transcription factors that may be involved in gene regulation of the disease defense mechanism. Further and in detail information will be provided in the poster.
In this study, it is performed that mix design of grouting materials which high strength, durability and environmentally safe materials for 2 types of suspension, solution grouting. The laboratory model tests such as permeation, solidification tests are performed to find injection effects by the injection pressure, soil condition. And environmental effects of the grouting materials is analyzed through the heavy-metal leaching tests. From the results, micro cement of suspension grouting superior permeation, solidification injection to Portland cement, and phosphoric acid and sodium hydrogen carbonate in solution grouting were similar to micro cement of suspension grouting. When compare to strength of grouted soils, micro cement of suspension grouting showed high compression strength to Portland cement. While, solution grouting showed very low compression strength comparing suspension grouting. Also, in the heavy-metal leaching tests results were satisfied with the environmental regulation standard for raw grouting materials and grouted soil by 7, 14, 28days curing.

In order to reveal the aluminum (Al) stress tolerance mechanisms in alfalfa plant at low pH soil, a proteomic approach has been conducted. Alfalfa plants were exposed to Al stress for 5 days. The plant growth and total chlorophyll content are greatly affected by Al stress. The malondialdehyde (MDA) and $H_2O_2$ contents were increased in a low amount but free proline and soluble sugar contents, and the DPPH-radical scavenging activity were highly increased. These results indicate that antioxidant activity (DPPH activity) and osmoprotectants (proline and sugar) may involve in ROS ($H_2O_2$) homeostasis under Al stress. In proteomic analysis, over 500 protein spots were detected by 2-dimentional gel electrophoresis analysis. Total 17 Al stress-induced proteins were identified, of which 8 protein spots were up-regulated and 9 were down-regulated. The differential expression patterns of protein spots were selected and analyzed by the peptide mass fingerprinting (PMF) using MALDI-TOF MS analysis. Three protein spots corresponding to Rubisco were significantly down-regulated whereas peroxiredoxin and glutamine synthetase were up-regulated in response to Al stress. The different regulation patterns of identified proteins were involved in energy metabolism and antioxidant / ROS detoxification during Al stress in alfalfa. Taken together, these results provide new insight to understand the molecular mechanisms of alfalfa plant in terms of Al stress tolerance.
Melting is one of the most effective treatments for stabilizing heavy metals and also creates high value by-products. In this study, authors evaluated the leaching characteristics of heavy metals in melting slag obtained by incinerator ashes. In order to evaluate the environmental compatibility of the recycled melting slag, the samples were analysed various leaching tests of heavy metals with raw incinerator ashes, melting slag and the construction materials recycled from melting slag. As the results : (1) The leaching concentrations of the melting slag were lower than those of the raw incinerator ashes in the experiment performed in accordance with Korea Standard Leaching Test (KSLT). (2) The heavy metal concentration of long term leaching test, which was conducted in various pH conditions, were under the standard level of regulation in KSLT. (3) The leaching concentration of mortar samples used for evaluating the feasibility of recycling the melting slag as construction materials also shows the suitable range for recycling. (4) The result of leaching test with the method of RG Min-StB 93, FGSV (Forschungsgesellschaft fur Stra$\beta$en- und Verkehrswesen) met the requirements in German.

AMB(Acid Mine Drainage), characterized as high concentration of metal & sulfate ions and low pH(2.0~4.0), is the world-wide problem wherever there is or has been mining activities. Though limestone has been generally used to neutralize AMD, There are metal hydroxide precipitation on the surface of limestone and excessive alkalinity formation which exceeds the regulation. In this research, concrete-recycled fine aggregate is selected for alternative neutralizing agent. Because fine recycled aggregate had more ANP than others in the preliminary research, the purpose of this research is to apply fine aggregate for AMD neutralization. Three columns packed with fine aggregates(2.5mm$O_3$) of it is calculated as 0.09(C-1), approximated 10% purity of limestone. Comparing with values of other columns(C-2: 0.01 and C-3: 0.01), there is variation of porosity and residence time induced from the precipitation of metal hydroxide. Consequently, 8 hours of HRT is enough to create adequate alkalinity and the function which could expect the variation of porosity(n) and residence time( $t_{R}$) should be applied to develop design function.lied to develop design function.

Hundreds of contaminated sites have been generated due to the past mismagement of toxic substances, the lack of adequate environmental controls and ignorance of the potential environmental impacts of general activities in Canada. The general public, industry and governments have been addressing the contaminated sites with a number of cleanup responses. Environmental protection and remediation have become top priorities for the public and private sectors alike in Canada. Between the late 1980s and the early 1990s, the Canadian Environmental Protection Act and Canada's Green Plan were followed by provincial and territorial laws and policies to regulate contaminated sites. The National Contaminated Site Remediation Program(NCSRP) was initiated in 1989. It has been administered through bilateral agreements between the federal and participating provincial/territorial governments. They have committed a total of $250 million toward orphan site cleanup and technology development/demonstration over a five year period. The federal government has committed an additional $25 million to assess contaminated sites on federal crown land. Over 40 orphan high-risk contaminated sites, over 230 federal sites and over 35 technology development/demonstration projects have been addressed. The Canadian Council of Ministers of the Environment has developed a series of guidance documents to ensure a consistent and successful implementation of the Program. The management/regulation scheme of contaminated sites generally consists of: 1) identifying and investigating sites, 2) determining site contamination, 3) recognizing responsibility and liability, 4) assessing priority for remediation, 5) activation, evaluation and implementing remediation options, and 6) documenting remediation completion. The NCSRP supported the successful development/demonstration of a wide range of innovative remedial technologies. They are related to stabilization/solidification, thermal washing/flushing, advanced oxidation, sonics, and groundwater contaminated with hydrocarbons, PAHS, PCBs, heavy metals, and other hazardous pollutants in a variety of site environments.

GRS is an effective urban ecology restoration technique that can manage a variety of environmental functions such as ecological restoration, rainwater spill control and island heat effect from a low-impact development standpoint that can be utilized in new construction and retrofits. Recently, quantitative evaluation studies, both domestic and abroad, in the areas related to these functions, including near-earth surface climate phenomenon, heavy rainwater regulation, thermal environment of buildings, have been actively underway, and there is a trend to standardize in the form of technological standards. In particular, centered on the advanced European countries, studies of standardizing the specific insulation capability of buildings with green system that comprehensively includes the green roof, from the perspective of replacing the exterior materials of existing buildings, are in progress. The limitation of related studies in the difficulties associated with deriving results that reflect material characteristics of continuously evolving systems due in part to not having sufficiently considered the main components of green system, mechanisms of vegetation, soils. This study attempts to derive, through EnergyPlus, the effects that the vegetation-related indicators such as vegetation height, FCV, etc. have on building energy load, by interpreting vegetation and soil mechanisms through plant canopy model and using an ecological standard indicator LAI that represent the condition of plant growth. Through this, the interpretations that assume green roof system as simple heat insulation will be complemented and a more practical building energy performance evaluation method that reflects numerical methods for heat fluxes phenomena that occur between ecology restoration systems comprised of plants and soil and the ambient space.
