  • Laboratory experiment was carried out to investigate the changes in the amount of inorganic phosphorus fractions of native and applied phosphorus and to compare the some analytical methods of soil phosphorus in volcanic ash. The rates of inorganic phosphorus to total-pP were varied with the kinds of soil in the ranges of 6.9 to 28.8% for Al-P, 24.1 to 26.9% for Fe-P, 7.4 to 11.9% for Ca-P and 0.7 to 8.0% for available phosphorus. The composition of inorganic phosphorus after incubation for 60 days was in the order of Al-P>Fe-P>Ca-P in Black soil, Fe-P>Al-P>Ca-P in Very dark brown soil, Fe-P>Ca-P>Al-P in Dark brown soil and Fe-P Al-P>Ca-P on Red yellow soil. The amounts of phosphorus extracted from soil varied with the methods for available phosphorus estimation. The magnitute of available P measured by Bray No. 2 method was the greatest. In relationship between inorganic phosphorus forms and available phophorus, Bray No. 2 method was closely related to Ca-P only and Olsen method correlated to Al-P, Fe-P, Ca-P and Total-P.

  • This study is intended to give information on agricultural nonpoint source pollution and transport related to fertilizer application and irrigation practice. Field-simulated soil columns were set up and leaching studies on fertilizer components such as nitrogen and phosphorus were performed. Nitrogen and phosphorus in the leachate showed different trends in each column and nonpoint source pollution in agricultural areas may be expected to depend on planted crops, soil conditions, and climate as well as irrigation and fertilizing management.

  • Field experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of vinyl mulch on phosphate availability of soil and fertilizer in 1982. Growth of tobacco was more vigorous at each level of phosphate treatment in vinyl mulched than in bare soil. There was significant culture x Phosphorus treatment interaction for the yields of cured tobacco leaves. These results indicated that vinyl mulch was effective to improve phosphate availability of soil and fertilizer. Increase in soil temperature and maintenance of bulk density suitable for Phosphorus diffusion by vinyl mulch were likely to Play major roles on Phosphate availability, but other unknown factors appeared to be involved.

  • To consider the nutrient removal characteristics of BNR process activating soil microorganisms under the influence of DPB and to clear the characteristics of DPB under anoxic condition was investigated in the this study. The batch tests were conducted using sludge sampled from the BNR process activating soil microorganisms during operation periods. The results of this study were summarized as follows: - The DPB(Denitrifying Phosphorus removing Bacteria) performing denitrification and phosphorus uptake in the anoxic phase plays an important role in removing nitrogen and phosphorus in the BNR process activating soil microorganisms. - The PUR(Phosphorus Uptake Rate) of DPB in the anoxic phase was to be about 50% of PUR in the aerobic phase. - The DPB in the BNR process turned out to be increasing nutrient removal efficiency of BNR process.

  • This experiment was carried out to investigate the effect of lime and phosphorus on soil and yield of rice plants in acid sulfate soil. 1. Lime requirement plus phosphorus (20Kg/10a) plot showed 60% increased in yield. 2. The effect of increase was 36% in lime and 15% in phosphorus. 3. pH and Eh were reversed each other by lime application, and lime and phosphorus increased soil reduction. 4. Sixty two percent of root was distributed in top soil (0-5cm) of control plot while it spreaed in sub soil (5-10cm) with high level of lime and phosphorus plot. 5. Soil pH reached maximum at maximum tillering stage and decreased there after approching near to original pH. But lime requirement was about half of original one. 6. There was significant positive correlation between yield silica or phosphorus in soil, which were high with increase of pH. 7. The application of lime and phosphorus increased nitrogen content in plants. When contents of phosphorus in rice plants were high the yield of rice was increased.

  • Nonpoint source pollution of groundwater and subsurface water from irrigated agriculture is a major concern in many areas. In this study we aimed to investigate the effect of the water applied by irrigation in agricultural area on the transport of nitrogen and phosphorus originated from fertilizers applied to the surface of soil in agricultural activities. We first conducted investigation on the resdual concentrations of soil N and P in a selected agricultural area. And simulating the target area by column studies in the laboratory leaching extent of various components from the composite and urea fertilizers applied on the soil surface during irrigation was studied. Infiltration of water enhanced the leaching of nitrogen and phosphorus in both the rice paddy field soil and the patch soil. The downward N and P transport with infiltrating water was more pronounced in the patch soil column and the increased residual concentrations of N and P in the lower sections in the patch soil column was found with time.

  • The following results were obtained in this work intended for getting more informations on features of phosphorus in Korean characteristic virgin, upland and paddy soils for knowing the ways how to evaluate the soil phosphorus availability and utilize fertilizers efficiently. 1. A large part of soil phosphorus is occupied by inorganic phosphorus in the soils of which the cultivated soils showed higher accumulation of applied phosphorus as inorganic forms than the uncultivated soils. The accumulation of organic phosphorus was indicated the highest in the paddy soils, and the lowest in the uncultivated soils. Than the cultuivated soil, the uncultivated soils have higher C/P ratio which was estimated to be related to soil fertility status essentially. 2. Iron phosphate was shown to be the most dominant form in soil phosphorus. Difference in parent rocks, from which the soils were originated, was shown to affect the carious distribution of phosphorus forms in the uncultivated soils to a large extent. The paddy soils have almost same distribution pattern of soil phosphorus forms regardless of different parent rocks. 3. The different methods for available phosphorus estimation extracted different amounts of phosphorus from the soils. Close relations between the available phosphours extracted with the different methods and the amounts of seil inorganic phosphorus were shown : e.g. between Fe-P and available-P by Olsen method. 4. Phosphorus absorption coefficient correlated negatively to soil inorganic phosphorus, and also to available phosphorus extracted with the several methods.

  • The effects of soil phosphorus level on seed emergence, seedling mortality, plant and root development of American ginseng (Panax quinquefolium L.) were evaluated in a newly planted commercial ginseng garden. Phosphorus levels were increased from 58 ppm to 100, 150 and 200 ppm with triplephosphate (0-45-0). Higher phosphate levels increased, seed emergence and reduced seedling mortality. Root length, diameter, fresh root weight and total leaflet length were not affected by phosphate levels.

  • A laboratory experiment was conducted to investigate the relationship between the composition of phosphorus forms and soil chemical properties. The soil samples were collected from the farms of the 149 locations where vegetables were intensively cultivated with heavy application of phosphorus. The composition percentages of Ca-P and Saloid-P to the total phosphorus were increased as increasing soil pH while those of Fe-P and Al-P were decreased, The composition percentage of Fe-P were increased up to pH 5.0-6.0 and decreased as increasing pH above 6.0. respectively. The pH dependency of Al-P and Fe-P composition percentage was more remarkable for the soils with high available phosphorus (>500ppm) than with low available phosphorus (<500ppm). Composition percentages were in order of Fe-P>Al-P>Ca-P>Saloid-P for the soils with available phosphorus below 500ppm, while those were in order of Al-P>Fe-P>Ca-P>Saloid-P for the soils with high available phosphorus above 1,000ppm. Composition percentages of Al-P and Fe-P were increased as increasing active Al content, and Fe-P was increased as increasing of active Fe and P sorbed but saloid-P, Al-P and Ca-P were decreased.
