Various pretreatment procedures and selective media were applied to assess the optimal conditions for the isolation of rare actinomycetes from soil. Pretreatment of wet-heating for 15 min at 70$^{\circ}C$ and phenol treatment of soil suspension were the most effective methods for the isolation of these microorganisms. Hair hydrolysate vitamin agar (HHVA) was the most suitable medium for the recovery of rare actinomycetes. Thirty-five rare actinomycete strains were chosen using selective isolation approaches, then morphological and chemical properties of the isolates were determined. The isolates belonged to one of the following genus, Micromonospora, Microbispora, Actinoplanes and Streptosporangium.
Since the amount of red mud, generated from aluminum smelting process as a by-product, has increased worldwide, the recycle and metal resource recovery from the red mud is becoming more important. In this study, in order to recycle the red mud as a soil stabilizer to remediate arsenic contaminated soils, neutralization of red mud was investigated. Red mud was neutralized by washing with distilled water and NaCl, CaCl2, FeCl3, and HCl solutions and heating at 200-800℃, and arsenic stabilization characteristics in soils were evaluated with the neutralized red mud. Although washing with distilled water was not effective in neutralizing red mud, the application of the washed red mud to soils lowered the soil pH compared to the application of untreated red mud. Among NaCl, CaCl2, FeCl3, and HCl solutions, washing with FeCl3 showed the most effective in lowering pH of the red mud from pH 10.73 to pH 4.26. Application of the neutralized red mud in soils resulted in quite different arsenic stabilization efficiency depending on soil samples. In M1 soil, which showed relatively high arsenic stabilization efficiency by untreated red mud, the neutralization of red mud resulted in little effect on arsenic stabilization in soil. On the other hand, in M2 soil, which showed low arsenic stabilization efficiency by untreated red mud, the neutralization of red mud increased arsenic stabilization significantly. Soil characteristics such as clay minerals and pH buffering capacity seemed to affect reactions between red mud and soils, which resulted in different effects of the red mud application on soil pH and arsenic stabilization efficiencies.

In this study, the behavior of underground pipeline subjected to pile driving is examined using the verified finite element model based on the field experiment. Young's modules of surface soil is varied and elastic modulus of the other soil layer is fixed. The pile driving force model proposed by Mounir E. Mabsout in 1999 was used and it was functions of time and of force. The forcing function applied on this study considers the kinetic energy of ram located at 1.2m height with 7 tonf. The 3-layered pipeline is composed of steel(inner) pipe, PUR(Polyurethane Resin, filler) and HDPE(outer) pipe, and the length/diameter of main steel pipe is 20m/0.8m(O.D). It is used for district heating pipes in Korea. The results are expressed in terms of Von Mises stress, displacement, and vibration velocity for each soil condition. From the results of the analyses, PUR which is originally intended as a thermal insulation of inner pipe shows performance as a structural member which distributes external pressure.
The greenhouse temperature controls in general have been managed by the above-ground part environment, But the temperature of root zone was known very important factor for the 9rofth and the yield of vegetables in greenhouse. The purpose of this study is to develop a good method for cultivation using solar energy which can apply warming soil and to develop the greenhouse soil temperature automatic control system. Followings are summary of this study:1 When the greenhouse inner temperature changes were about 24$^{\circ}C$ during a day in October, the temperature of non-warmed soil was differenced 6$^{\circ}C$ in the depth 10cm and 3$^{\circ}C$ in the depth 20cm. 2. When water supply temperature was kept at 40, 50 and 6$0^{\circ}C$, the lowest soil temperature in the depth of 10cm is 2$0^{\circ}C$ and that of 20cm was 23$^{\circ}C$. and when the water supply temperature was over 4$0^{\circ}C$, the space heating temperature did not affect the temperature variation of soil. 3. In comparison with conditions of the warmed and non-warmed soil, when the water supply temperature is 28$^{\circ}C$, soil temperatures had the high temperature of 4$0^{\circ}C$~7$^{\circ}C$ in the depth of 10cm to 20 cm. 4. The line of boundary area was appeared in the depth of 15~20cm, 13~19cm and 12~17cm. when the water supply temperature was 4$0^{\circ}C$, 5$0^{\circ}C$ and 6$0^{\circ}C$. 5. When th inner greenhouse air temperature is maintained over 11$^{\circ}C$ and the water supply temperature is supported 28$^{\circ}C$, the lowest temperature is kept up over 2$0^{\circ}C$.

The main purpose of this study is as follows : Finding a solution for fresh wood chips to be used as an alternative growing-media through a study of the formation method of a compost base that is applicable on both construction site and composting factory to ferment fresh wood chips produced from construction site as well as a study on adjuvant or secondary materials. The result from the experiment plot using wood chips sized 50mm or less, manure and fertilizer mixed manure as a source of nitrogen to compost fresh wood chips has shown that the temperatures 9days and 3days after the beginning of the experiment reached to $49.0^{\circ}C$ and $40.4^{\circ}C$ respectively, the heating duration was 7days and 4days respectively, and the C/N ratio was 26.5 and 25.3, each satisfying the standard for composted manure (25.0~40.0). Also, the other result from another experiment plot using mixture of sandy soil and microorganism as an inoculation source of microorganism has shown that the temperature 10days after the beginning of the experiment reached to $67.6^{\circ}C$ and lasted 16days. The experiment plot using sandy soil has shown the highest figure of $5.3{\sim}108$ CFU/g in terms of number of microorganism. The result from the experiment plots for on-site composting of fresh wood chips have shown that the experiment plot that used sandy soil with fertilizer due to supply restriction of manure as a nitrogen source in construction site reached the high temperature of $54.7^{\circ}C$ after 3days of experiment beginning and maintained heating state for 17days and reached 30.6 of C/N ratio, satisfying the standard for composted manure.
The major threats that human being is facing nowadays are the Climate change, depletion of the fossil fuels at a rapid rate and energy costs. A significant portion of world energy consumption is consumed by domestic heating and cooling. And heat pumps, due to their higher utilization efficiencies as compared to conventional heating and cooling systems, offer an attractive solution to this problem. Among the types of heat pumps, the Geothermal heat pump or Ground-source heat pump is a highly efficient, renewable energy technology for space heating and cooling. The Ground-source heat pump uses the Earth as a heat sink in the summer and a heat source in the winter. And the Earth, having a relatively constant temperature, warmer than the air in winter and cooler than the air in summer, offers an excellent heat source in winter and heat sink in summer.. This paper will discuss an overview of the types of heat pumps, its operation, benefits of using geothermal heat pumps, soil characteristics, and overview of some experimental works. Finally it will briefly discuss the opportunity of using these energy efficient systems (EES) in the HVAC market of South Korea.

Various types of micro cone penetrometers have been developed by using strain gages for the layered soil detection. Strain gages, however, are affected by several factors such as temperature, self heating and lead wire length. In this study, micro cone penetrometers with 3~7mm in diameter, are developed by using FBG sensor to overcome the defects of the strain gage, and compensate the effect of temperature during penetration. In order to verifiy the accuracy and reliability of the developed FBG cone, the cone penetration test is performed on the layered soil. The tip resistance of FBG snesor shows excellent sensitivity, and can detect the interface of the layered soils with higher resolution. In addition, the 3mm micro cone penetrometer which is impossible cone diameter by using strain gages presents much higher sensitivity than the 7mm cone penetrometer. This study suggests that FBG sensor is a useful sensor for manufaturing the ultra small sized cone, and effectively detects the interface of the layered soil.
In this study, the COP variation with the duration of Ground Source Heat Pump (GSHP) systems operation was analyzed by experiment. This experimental facility was installed in residential house as a back-up device of solar thermal heating system. The capacity of heat pump is 2.5 kW with a vertical bore hole of 150m depth. The COP of GSHP is varied, depending on the ground temperature which is used as a heat source. The ground heat source temperature influencing heating COP is the soil or rock temperature which adjoin with geo-source heat exchanger. This temperature is decreased rapidly according to the operation duration of heat pump. As a result, COP of GSHP is decreased to 3 in one hour of continuous operation time.
This study is to find out the major design variables of Green roof system effecting on the building energy consumption. Therefore, in three categories of green roof system, namely, foliage layer, soil layer and irrigation, 10 design variables are selected and simulated with one-story case building. Simulation is carried out with Design Builder and EnergyPlus. Finally, it was found out the effects of major variables affecting on the building heating and cooling energy and how they are affecting on the heating and cooling seasons respectively.
A model experiment has been performed to get the heat transfer coefficient on the soil surface in the closed ecosystem. The heat flux on the soil surface was measured and the heat transfer coefficient was derived in the following two cases with 5-stepped control of inside air current speed. One case was that heat flowed from air to soil and the other case was that heat flowed from soil to air. Three dimensional CFD model has been set to simulate thermal environment in the closed ecosystem including soil layers. The standard $k-{\varepsilon}$ model of the CFD program was chosen for turbulence model and heating wire buried in the soil layers was set as heat source option to simulate the case when the temperature of soil surface was higher than that of inside air in the closed ecosystem. Between one case that heat flowed from air to soil and the other case that heat flowed from soil to air, there were big differences in the temperature distribution of soil layers and the heat transfer coefficient of the soil surface. The increasing rate of heat transfer coefficient on each case according to the increase of inside air current speed was similar to each other and it respectively increased linearly. But the heat transfer coefficient on the case that heat flowed from soil to air was much bigger than that of the other case. The model was validated by comparing simulated values of CFD model with measured values of the model experiment. Simulated and measured temperature of inside air and soil layers, and heat transfer coefficient of the soil surface were well accorded and the range of corrected $R^2$ was 0.664 to 0.875. The developed CFD model was well simulated in parts of the temperature of inside air and soil layers, the distribution of the inside air current speed, and heat transfer coefficient of the soil surface were able to be quantitatively analyzed by using this model. Therefore, the model would be applied and used for analysis of heat transfer coefficient between air and surface in various agricultural facilities.
