This research was conducted to estimate the effect of sonication and reducing agent addition on soil washing of heavy metals-contaminated soil. Sonication trained in soil washing did not significantly increased extraction efficiency of heavy metal compared to soil washing only. The extraction efficiency of sonication trained in soil washing was 12% increased for Pb in 0.01M EDTA leaching solution. Pb and Cd showed higher extraction efficiency in case of reducing agent treatment with mechanical shaking than that with sonication. However, the extraction efficiency of Cu and Zn in case of reducing agent treatment with sonication was over 2 times higher than that in with soil washing. Therefore, application of reducing agent addition with sonication or mechanical shaking should be decided differently for pretreatment of soil washing, according to the kind of heavy metal. It was estimated that sonication after adding reducing agent could increase removal efficiency of Zn or Cu-contaminated soil and shorten the treatment time.

This research was performed to check the transport characteristics of heavy metals in contaminated soil, that is, the influence of humic acid and phosphate on transport characteristics of heavy metals was studied. From the results of column mode experiments about heavy metal behavior, the order time to reach breakthrough and equilibrium was soil + humic acid( 20g ) > soil + humic acid ( 5 g ) > soil without Humic acid addition > soil+humic acid( 50g ). It is because the dissolved organic carbon content increased as the soil organic matter content increased. As the phosphate increased, so did the time to reach breakthrough and equilibrium. The order of time was soil + phosphate( 50 mg ) > soil + phosphate( 20 mg ) > soil . phosphate( 10 mg ) > soil without phosphate addition. It is because the phosphate ion worked as alkalinity donor and the calcium ion co-injected worked as the accelerator of coprecipitation of heavy metals.
Adsorption and precipitation of cadmium (Cd) could be dependent on rate of P addition and Cd level in soil. Therefore, the objective of this study was to examine how addition rate of P affect mechanisms of Cd immobilization such as adsorption and precipitation in different levels of Cd in soil. Arable soils were spiked with inorganic Cd ($CdCl_2$) to give a total Cd concentration of 10, 100, and $1,000mg\;Cd\;kg^{-1}$. Monopotassium phosphate ($KH_2PO_4$, MPP) was selected as phosphate material and mixed with the pretreated arable soil at the rates of 0, 800, 1,600 and $3,200mg\;P\;kg^{-1}$. The mixture soils were incubated at $25^{\circ}C$ for 8 weeks in dark condition. Soil pH decreased with increasing MPP addition rate in all levels of Cd but negative charge of soil increased, thereby reducing 1 M $NH_4OAc$ extractable Cd. Soil solutions were undersaturated with respect to $CdCO_3$ and $Cd_3(PO_4)_2$ with all P addition rate in soil with low Cd level (${\leq}100mg\;Cd\;kg^{-1}$) but supersaturated in soil with high Cd level ($1,000mg\;Cd\;kg^{-1}$). From the above results, Cd solubility was controlled by precipitation of Cd minerals such as $CdCO_3$ and $Cd_3(PO_4)_2$ in soil with high Cd level but by Cd adsorption induced by increase in negative charge of soil with low level of Cd.

In this paper, we investigate the characteristics of wet soil concrete according to the addition ratio of liquefaction red mud addition rate by liquefying red mud. as a result, the compressive strength decreased and the water absorption ratio increased as the liquefaction red mud addition rate increased.
In order to gain a better understanding of how forests participate in the cycling of carbon, effects of nitrogen addition on soil respiration were investigated on the oak forest in Kongju, Korea. Study site was divided into control, treatment f and treatment 2 plots, with 5 replication in each plot. In each replicate of treatment 1 and treatment 2 were fertilized with ammonium nitrate (NH$_4$NO$_3$), 30 g/$m^2$ and 60 g/$m^2$, respectively. Soil respiration, soil temperature, ammonium-N and nitrate-N were measured during the experimental period. Ammonium-N and nitrate-N in Ta were higher than those in control and T$_1$. Ammonium-N and nitrate-N in top-soil and sub-soil decreased sharply in August after bi9 rainfall in July in T$_1$ and T$_2$, however, those in control plot increased. Soil respiration in T$_2$ Plot showed consistently higher than those in control and T$_1$ until the end of July. However, soil respiration was similar among the control, T$_1$ and T$_2$ in mid-August and September The amount of Co$_2$ released from soil respiration in control, T$_1$ and T$_2$ in mid-August was 8.0$\pm$0.4, 9.3$\pm$0.6 and 10.2$\pm$0.5 $\mu$mol$^{-1}$ ㆍm$^{-2}$ ㆍs$^{-1}$ , respectively. However, those in control, T$_1$ and T$_2$in mid-August was 13.0$\pm$0.4, 13.5$\pm$0.5, 13.3$\pm$0.6 $\mu$mol$^{-1}$ ㆍm$^{-2}$ ㆍ$^{-1}$ , respectively. The results suggest that nitrogen addition in this oak forest has a positive effect on soil respiration.
The pozzolanic characteristics of a sludge incinerated into ash were determined in this study. Lime is commonly used as a stabilizer for the treatment of soils, whereas sewage sludge ash (SSA) is often applied with lime to improve soft subgrade soil. In this study, a cohesive soil categorized as A-4 (low-plasticity clay) by AASHTO classifications was mixed with SSA/lime with a 3:1 ratio. Nano-$SiO_2$ was also added to the soil. To identify changes in the workability, strength, permeability, and shear strength of the soft subgrade soil, basic soil tests were conducted, and the microstructure of the treated soil was analyzed. The results indicate that SSA/lime mixtures improve the properties of soft subgrade soil and transform the soil from "poor subgrade soil" to "good to excellent subgrade soil" with a CBR > 8. Additionally, the addition of 2% nano-$SiO_2$ increases the unconfined compressive strength of soft subgrade soil treated with SSA/lime mixture by approximately 17 kPa. However, the swelling of the treated soil increased by approximately 0.1% after the addition of nano-$SiO_2$ and lime. Thus, soil swelling should be considered before lime and nano-$SiO_2$ are applied to soft subgrade soil.

In this study, economic analysis of five desalination technologies for saline agricultural land was carried out. The analysis was comprehensively evaluated by calculating changes in crop production and benefit/cost (B/C) ratio. The analysis of crop production was in the order of tomato > cucumber > a (musk) melon > watermelon > cabbage, and economical efficiency for desalination technology was in the order of soil exchange > soil addition > electrokinetics > under-drainage > subsoil reversal. In cost benefit analysis, B/C ratio was in the order of under-drainage > soil exchange > electrokinetics > soil addition > subsoil reversal, and all desalination technologies used in this study have the ratio higher than 1, which means economical efficiency was high. Based on the net production considering B/C ratio, the general economic analysis was exactly order from that of crop production analysis. As a result, economical efficiency of soil exchange was highest, and economical efficiency of soil addition and electrokinetic was relatively higher than others.
Mobility reduction of 2,4,6-trinitrotoluene (TNT) was tested by amending monopotassium phosphate (MKP) and montmorillonite to a firing range soil contaminated with TNT. While addition of MKP enhanced sorption of TNT on soil matrix, and combined use of MKP with montmorillonite significantly decreased desorption of TNT as well as remarkably increased the TNT sorption. Montmorillonite amendment by 5% of soil mass resulted in TNT desorption of 0.12 mg/kg from soil loaded with 9.93 mg/kg-TNT. The decrease of TNT desorption was proportional to the amount of montmorillonite amended. At 10 and 15% amendment, only 0.79 and 1.23 mg/kg-TNT was desorbed from 29.33 and 48.80 mg/kg-TNT. In addition, the leaching of TNT with synthetic precipitation leaching procedure (SPLP) and hydroxypropyl-${\beta}$-cyclodextrin (HPCD) decreased, indicating that TNT in MKP/montmorillonite-treated soil became more stable and less leachable. The results demonstrate that addition of MKP and montmorillonite to TNT-contaminated soil reduces the mobility of TNT from soil not only by increasing TNT sorption, but also decreasing TNT desorption. It was found that MKP and montmorillonite amendments by 5 and 10% of soil mass, respectively, were optimal for reducing the mobility of soil TNT.
This experiment was carried out to investigate the mixing ratio of soil amending materials such as peat perlite, active carbon and zeolite for improvements of physiochemical properties of topsoil, of creeping bentgrass (Agrostis palustris var. Penncross). The results were as followed :1.Appropriate addition of soil improvement material was increased the soil porosity due to the decrease of bulk density. Over supplement of soil improvement material induced the decrease of infiltration of water into soil.2Content of organic matter was increased in treatment of peat and active carbon . Soil reaction was decreased in peat treatment, but increased in perlite, zeolite and active carbon. Exchangeable cation capacity was increased by the addition of all kinds of soil improvement materials used in this experiment.
Ammonia (NH3) that reacts with nitric or sulfuric acid in the air is the major culprit contributing to the formation of fine particulate matter (PM2.5). NH3 volatilization mainly originates from nitrogen fertilizer and livestock manure applied to arable soil. Cation exchange capacity (CEC) of peat moss (PM) and zeolite (ZL) is high enough to adsorb ammonium (NH4+) in soil. Therefore, they might inhibit volatilization of NH3. The objective of this study was to compare the effect of PM and ZL on NH3 volatilization from upland soil. For this, a laboratory experiment was carried out, and NH3 volatilization from the soil was monitored for 12 days. PM and ZL were added at the rate of 0, 1, 2, and 4% (wt wt-1) with 354 N g m-2 of urea. Cumulative NH3-N volatilization decreased with increasing addition rate of both materials. Mean value of cumulative NH3-N volatilization across application rate with PM was lower than that with ZL. CEC increased with increasing addition rate of both materials. While the soil pH increased with ZL, it decreased with PM. Increase in CEC resulted in NH4+ adsorption on the negative charge of the external surface of both materials. In addition, decrease in soil pH hinders the conversion of NH4+ to NH3. Based on the above results, the addition of PM or ZL could be an optimum management to reduce NH3 volatilization from the soil. However, PM was more effective in decreasing NH3 volatilization than ZL due to the combined effect of CEC and pH.
