This study was conducted to find out definition, specification and characteristics of water-proof method for pond at golf courses that located in the mountain in Korea. Water-proof method of pond was selected by location, kind of soil, area, depth, cost, construction period and so on. 1. Soil Bentonite Sealing Liner(SBL) is to mix soil with a good quality bentonite. Then the mixed material was dressed on the bottom of pond. $\\$Merit of SBL is to purify the water and planting is possible. It can also reduce construction period and is economical. It's easy to find out the leak points. Demerit of SBL is expensive, if good quality soil is not in constructing site. Shape of pond edge is simple. 2. Ethylen Propylene Diene Monomer Sheef(EPDM-Sheet) makes use of sheet that resists to acid and alkaline. EPDM-Sheet spreads out as a mat on the pond for water-proof. Merit of EPDM-Sheet is to perfectly prove water and make a diverse shape of pond edge. Demerit of EPDM-Sheet is not friendly to environment. It needs drain system, air ventilation and long period of construction. It is also difficult to find out leaking points in this method. 3. Water proof of ESS-13 uses ESS-13 that is resin of vegetable matter and friendly to environment. To prove water of pond, ESS-13 is delicate with water in the pond. After that, Ess-13 in the water is expanded at pore space in the soil and cover with soil. ESS-13 can be to prove a leaking pond in golf course under business. ESS-13 is cheap and it needs short construction period. It does not need to switch the old water-proof system, additionally. It needs to move fishes to other place before utilizing ESS-13.

Accurate and optimal water supply to cereal crop is critical in growing stalks and producing maximum yields. Recently, upland crops are cultivated in paddy field soils to reduce overproduced rice in Korea. In order to increase productivity of cereal crops in paddy fields which have poor percolation and drainage properties, it is necessary to fully understand crop response to excessive soil water condition and management of soil drainage system in paddy field. The objectives of this study were to investigate effects of excessive soil water to sesame growth and to quantify stress response using groundwater levels. Two cultivars of sesame were selected to investigate; Gunbak and Areum. These sesames were planted in paddy fields located in Miryang, Gyeongnam with different soil drainage levels and drainage systems. The experiment site was divided into two plots by drainage class; very poorly and somewhat poorly drained. Two different drainage systems were applied to alleviate excessive soil water in each plot: open ditch and pipe drainage system. Soil water contents and groundwater levels were measured every hour during growing season. Pipe drainage system was significantly effective to alleviate wet injury for sesame in paddy fields. Pipe drainage system decreased average soil moisture content and groundwater level during sesame cultivation. This resulted in greater yield and lignan contetns in sesame seeds than ones from open ditch system. Comparison between two cultivars, Gunbak had greater decrease in growth and yield by excessive soil water and high groundwater level than Areum. Seed components (lignan) showed decrease in seeds as soil water increased. When soil moisture content was greater than 40%, lignan content tended to decrease than ones from less soil moisture content. Based on these results, pipe drainage system would be more effective to reduce wet injury to sesame and increase lignan component in paddy field cultivation.
This study was performed to survey the characteristics of surface water and soil in Wangdungjae wetland located at Chiri-Mountain. The results of survey summarized as follows; 1. The physico-chemical characteristics of surface water such as pH, temperature, and DO were in the range of 6.02-6.39, $13.5-24.3^{\circ}C$ and 3.81-9.97 mg/L, respectively. Also, the organic concentrations such as BOD and COD were in the range of 1.3-1.61 mg/L and 3.55-9.97 mg/L, respectively. The water quality of five different sampling sites showed the similar characteristics. 2. The physico- chemical characteristics of soil showed the different properties with the soil sampling depth. According to increasing sampling depth, cation exchange capacity (CEC) and electric conductivity (EC) increased but pH decreased. 3. The future survey and researches on surface water and soil environments are needed to preserve the Wangdungjae wetland at Chiri-mountain marsh.
Ultrasonic propagation velocities of both the dilatational and shear waves through the weathered tuff soil sampled from the area tying between Ulanbator and Beijing were measured under temperature condition of near subzero by means of sing-around method. After comparing the results with obtained data on unfrozen water content, a linear relation between velocities and unfrozen water content was performed with high coefficient value. Experimental results of two kinds of rather uniform materials, namely, glass-beads and silica micro-beads, testified the similar linear relations. In addition, the change rate of dilatational wave velocities with the change of volumetric unfrozen water content was not dependent on soil type. Although a rational theory of the ultrasonic velocities dependence on the unfrozen water content is not yet proposed, the presented empirical relationships may suggest the appropriate evaluation to the effect of unfrozen water on dynamic characteristics of frozen soil.
This experiment was carried out to study the influence of the various soil water regimes on photosynthesis and growth and development of ginseng plant (3 years). The results were as follows: optimum soil water content for root dry weight and diameter appeared to be 62% of field capacity (13.9% fresh weight basis). The 62% field capacity showed superiority in leaf area, leaf dry weight and also in number of flower, fruit, seed per plant. Net photosynthesis rates per unit area increased with increasing soil water content but net photosynthesis rates per plant were superior in 62% field capacity. Rates of transpiration increased linearly with increasing soil water content but density of stomata decreased with increasing soil water content.
Analytical methods were developed to determine cyclosulfamuron residues in soil, water, rice grain and straw using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with ultraviolet absorption detection. In these methods, cyclosulfamuron was extracted with aqueous $Na_2HPO_4$/acetone and acetone/methanol mixture from soil and rice samples respectively. Liquid-liquid partition coupled with ion-associated technique, Florisil column chromatography, and solid-phase extraction (SPE) were used to separate cyclosulfamuron from interfering co-extractives prior to HPLC analysis. For water sample, the residue was enriched in $C_{18}$-SPE cartridge, cleaned up in situ, and directly subjected to HPLC. Reverse-phase HPLC under ion-suppression was successfully applied to determine cyclo-sulfamuron in sample extracts with the detection at its ${\lambda}_{max}$ (254 nm). Recoveries from fortified samples averaged $87.8{\pm}7.1%$ (n=12), $97.3{\pm}7.2%$ (n=12), $90.8{\pm}6.6%$ (n=6), and $78.5{\pm}6.7%$ (n=6) for soil, water, rice grain and straw, respectively. Detection limits of the methods were 0.004 mg/kg, 0.001 mg/L, 0.01 mg/kg and 0.02 mg/kg for soil, water, rice grain and straw samples, respectively.
To respond to rapidly changing water circumstances such as climate change, drought, etc., the korean government (MOE) established four advanced strategies for integrated groundwater management. The first strategy is watershed-based management of groundwater. The second strategy is total quantity management of groundwater including improvement of groundwater preservation area policy and procedure of investigation for groundwater influence area, additional construction of groundwater dam, installation of large-scale public wells, extention of spilled groundwater use. The third strategy is prevention of groundwater contamination including expansion of monitoring wells, introducing declaration of groundwater contamination. The last strategy is advancement of groundwater information management including integrated management of data, setting up a big-data based open platform. The above-mentioned four strategies will be reflected in the 4th National Groundwater Management Plan to secure implementation power, and it is expected to laid the foundation for advanced and rational groundwater management system.
To investigate changes of boron fractions in soil with vegetable cultivation affected by boron application Jossangmiho, chinese cabbage was planted in 1/2.000a pot with four different soils which are sandy loam, calcareous, organic and vinyl house soil. Increment of available boron in soil with different boron applications was in the order of vinyl hous soil>organic soil>sandy soil>calcareous soil. The ratio of boron fraction to total boron is highest in $NH_4$-oxalate ext.-B with 19.1 % and lowest in water sol.-B and $CaCl_2$ ext.-B with 0.7% respectively. The boron fraction increment due to the different application ratio was in the order of $NH_4-oxalate$ ext.-B>Mannitol exch.-B> $CaCl_2$ ext.-B> $NH_2OH{\cdpt}HCl$ ext.-B>Water soil.-B. As the concentration of calcium in soil increased. water sol.-B decreased and the other forms of boron increased. In the soil high in organic matter, water sol.-B and $NH_4$-oxalate ext.-B increased significantly. but the other forms of boron not.
We examined the effect of soil:water ratio on the equivalent concentration of individual electrolyte species and the electrical conductivities (EC) of the diluted extracts of 24 soil samples (loam or silt loam) collected from rose-cultivated plastic houses to estimate the EC of saturated soil-paste extracts (ECe) from diluted soil extracts. With increasing volume ratio of water (higher dilution), the equivalent concentrations of each electrolyte species and their sum increased. The relative contribution to the EC, however, was highest for $NO_3{^-}$, irrespective of soil:water ratio. The measured ECe was 6.36 for loam and $8.09dS\;m^{-1}$ for silt loam soils and the corresponding soil:water ratio was 0.38 and 0.50, respectively. The EC_e estimated from the EC of diluted extracts at 1:1, 1:2, or 1:5 soil:water ratios using their corresponding uniform diluted factors was lower than the measured EC_e and this difference was greater with higher dilution and EC values. Therefore, the alternative diluted factors (y) for each soil: water ratio were obtained following the definition of diluted factor and were correlated significantly with volume ratios of added water (x): y=1.55x+0.5 for loam and y=1.21x+0.48 for silt loam soils. On the other hand, correlation analyses of the EC of soil extracts (y) to the volume ratio of added water (x) on log-log scale yielded linear models: logy = -0.805logx + logb, SD of slope=0.05, b=sample specific constant, n=24). With known saturation percentage of a sample representing a group and and the EC of diluted extract of a given soil, the EC_e could be predicted using the proposed logarithmic equation.

The sea water and the soil of surface zone in lagoon have many physical relations between each other by both physical phenomena such as tidal motion and wave action, and activity of a creature which lives in soil zone. The soil zone has an activity of filtering the sea water at lowering tide and also the organic materials in sea water are supplied into the soil. And small creatures such as small crab eat organic materials. Usually the surface zone of lagoon becomes under the sea water in two times of a day and also is coming in two times under the sunshine and it becomes dries up conditions. Authors made the field observation at Sanbannse lagoon in Tokyo bay in several times between 2002 to 2004. The observation has been done in a half period of tide in October and November 2002 and also full tide observation is made in July 2, 2003 in summer and November 26, 2003 in autumn. In 2004, three times observations of full tide has been made in three times as June 22, July 20 and December 14. This report is the summary of results on these observations focusing on the soil surface zone and sea water at under ground and wave breaking zone.
