To reinforce bearing capacity-changed section or different foundation in the same building, empirical or simple tools have been used. To solve this problem, we suggest the analytical solution that can evaluate and reinforce the stability of foundation. To estimate the effect of reinforcement by replacement in different foundation, soil stiffness evaluation method taking into account the influence factor with respect to depth beneath the foundation need to be applied. In this paper, graphs and relevant formulae are suggested to calculate equivalent soil reaction coefficient showing the effect of reinforcement by crushed stone and lean concrete replacement.

This paper presents applicability of Fenton oxidation to perchloroethylene(PCE) contaminated soil. The initial concentration of PCE was 187mg/kg and Fenton oxidation conditions were 1.0M $H_2O_2$ and 0.5M $Fe^{2+}$. More than 97% of PCE decomposition and 98% of dechlorination were obtained within 5 hrs. It was found that the decomposition of PCE by Fenton oxidation was followed pseudo first order and its reaction coefficient was 0.78 $hr^{-1}$. GC-MS and GC-ECD analysis of reaction intermediates confirmed only the presence of trichloroacetic acid(i.e., 1.0% of initial PCE concentration). Under Fenton oxidation conditions, it was proposed that PCE was decomposed not simultaneously but one by one.
The lateral bearing characteristics of large diameter drilled shaft depend greatly on the stiffness of the pile, horizontal subgrade reaction of adjacent ground. In particular, the empirical evaluation results of the horizontal subgrade reaction coefficient which are widely used in pile design are very important factors in evaluating the lateral bearing capacity of drilled shaft because the difference in bearing capacity depends on the estimated result. Nevertheless, the evaluation of the horizontal subgrade reaction coefficient on the large diameter drilled shaft is insufficient. In addition, although the range of influence and the location of the maximum moment which is the weaken zone on the pile may be correlated and relationship of these are major consideration in determining the reinforced zone of drilled shaft, the previous studies have not been evaluated it. In this study, the field test and nonlinear analysis of large diameter drilled shaft were performed to evaluate the horizontal subgrade reaction coefficient and to investigate the relationship between the influence range 1/β of the pile and the location of the maximum moment zm. In the result, the lateral bearing capacity of drilled shaft showed a difference in results by about 190% according to the empirical equation on the horizontal subgrade reaction coefficient. And the relationship between the influence range of the pile and the location of the maximum moment was evaluated as a linear relationship depending on the soil density.
This work is to study experimentally the measurment of pore air pressure according to rainfall in colluvium model and the characteristics of pore water pressure according to increasement of artesian ground water head. After modeling a geological feature of the Tertiary formation, the experiment was performed about sixty times on three kinds of soil. This experimental results showed the variation of pore water and pore air pressures with time, the change of void ratio and appling pressure head in the nonsaturated soil. It can be also expressed by the final pore water and the air reaction ratios and then formularizing the relationship between the permeability coefficient and the void ratio. In the results of this experiment, the patterns of the pore water pressure reaction are classified by the step-type and the wave-type, and the time-lag to reach final point of pore water pressure is in order sand, sandy silt and clayey sand.
Many researchers have studied the effectiveness of ultrasound in chemical and environmental engineering fields including material synthesis, pollutant removal, cleaning, extraction, and disinfection. Acoustic cavitation induced by ultrasound irradiation in aqueous phase can cause various sonophysical and sonochemical reactions without any chemicals. However most of the previous studies focused only on the relationships between ultrasonic conditions and the results of sonochemical reactions in lab-scale sonoreactors. As a results of this, only a few studies have been devoted to design and optimization of industrial scale sonoreactors. In this study, the effect of the distance between two opposite transducer modules on sonochemical reactions was investigated in single and dual irradiation systems (334 kHz) for four distances including 50, 100, 150, and 200 mm using KI dosimetry. It was found that the dual irradiation systems provided higher performance in terms of the zeroth reaction coefficient and the cavitation yield compared to the single irradiation systems. The sonochemiluminescence (SCL) images for the visualization of the cavitation field showed that cavitation active zone was larger and sonochemical reaction intensity was much higher in the dual irradiation system than in the single irradiation system.
It is important to calculate the natural frequency of a piled structure in the design stage in order to prevent resonance-induced damage to the pile foundation and analyze the dynamic behavior of the piled structure during an earthquake. In this paper, a simple but relatively accurate method employing a mass-spring model is presented for the evaluation of the natural frequency of a pile-soil system. Greatly influencing the calculation of the natural frequency of a piled structure, the spring stiffness between a pile and soil was evaluated by using the coefficient of subgrade reaction, the p-y curve, and the subsoil elastic modulus. The resulting natural frequencies were compared with those of 1-g shaking table tests. The comparison showed that the natural frequency of the pile-soil system could be most accurately calculated by constructing a stiffness matrix with the spring stiffness of the Reese (1974) method, which utilizes the coefficient of the subgrade reaction modulus, and Yang's (2009) dynamic p-y backbone curve method. The calculated natural frequencies were within 5% error compared with those of the shaking table tests for the pile system in dry dense sand deposits and 5% to 40% error for the pile system in saturated sand deposits depending on the occurrence of excess pore water pressure in the soil.
Purpose: In this study, an analysis of the differences between the elastoplastic analysis and the numerical analysis and a study of the design ground constant recalculation method to derive similar trends in the analysis results were conducted. Method: The relational expression between the ground reaction force coefficient and the ground deformation coefficient at the time when the wall displacement becomes the same according to shallow excavation and deep excavation was derived. Result: Based on the measurement results, reverse analysis was performed to re-calculate the ground properties suitable for the site ground, and as a result of comparing and verifying the wall displacement using the derived formula and the literature formula, the proposed formula showed the most similar value. Conclusion: If the proposed formula is used, it will be helpful in practice because it is possible to infer the most similar ground properties to the actual at the time of design.
The deformational response of plastic board drains installed to accelerate consolidation of soft soils, is examined as a problem of downdrag. The drain is modelled as a beam-column in which the axial load increases nonlinearly with depth. The soil response is represented by the Winkler medium whose coefficient of subgrade modulus increases linearly with depth. The governing equations for the drain-soil system are derived and solved as an eigenvalue problem. The critical buckling loads and the shape of the drain are obtained as functions of the normalized subgrade modulus of the soil at the top, the parameters signifying the variation of axial load along the length of the drain and the increase of subgrade modulus with depth. The derived deformed shapes of the drain are consistent with the observed ones.

Piles are often subjected to both axial and lateral loads. The nonlinear subgrade reaction method is widely used for the design of laterally loaded piles and in this approach the soil reaction is replaced with a series of independent nonlinear Winkler springs. In this study, Laterally loaded high strength H-piles were analyzed using a finite difference solution, and three p-y curve models with different k values(the coefficient of horizontal subgrade reaction, [FL$\^$-3/]) were evaluated using data obtained from various field tests, and another analysis method using Q$\sub$g/ - y$\sub$g/ curve was developed. The results of this analysis were compared with the measured values to assess their applicability.

Solution chemistry, sorbate chemistry, and sorbent chemistry were widely investigated to find important factors that affect PAH sorption on mineral surfaces and to elucidate its microscopic mechanism. The solution chemistry, pH and ionic strength caused measurable change of HOC sorption reaction to minerals. The detectable change of Ka occurred at a pH region crossing the PZC (Point of Zero Charge) of each mineral. The PAH hydrophobicity, one of sorbate chemistry, was observed to have a strong correlation with PAM sorption to mineral. Mineral surface area was not found to be a predominant factor controlling PAH sorption. The mineral type might be more likely to play a crucial role in controlling the PAH sorption behavior. The CEC (Cation Exchange Capacity) of mineral, representing surface charge density, has meaningful correlation with regression slope of sorption coefficients (log $K_{d}$) versus aqueous activity coefficients (log Υ$_{w}$).).).
