  • Increasing national concern on nonpoint source pollution of surface and ground water Systems has led researchers and policy makers to develop certain agricultural Best Management Practices. As an initial step of broad study program above mentioned, this study reflected the effects of different tillage practice on bulk density and degree of saturation on two regional soils, namely Tama silt loam and Catlin silt loam. Results may help to clarify some of the conflicting findings on the impact of tillage systems on these parameters and it may also explain some of the reasons for specific role that different tillage systems play regarding nonpoint source pollution from agricultural fields.

  • 독일 Eifel 산맥일대 구주적송(Pinus sylvestris) 조림지의 생태학적 산림경영을 위한 기본정보를 수집하기 위하여 식물사회학적 방법으로 산림식생이 분류되었으며, 분류된 각 군락에 대하여 그들의 생태학적 특성이 분석, 기술되었다. 유럽적송 인공림은 적습지의 Vaccinium myrtillus-Pinus sylvestris군락, 습지의 Pteridium aquilium-Pinus sylvestris 군락, B층 토양이 굳어진 Molinia caerulea-Pinus sylvestris 군락 그리고 건조지의 Festuca tenuifolia-Pinus sylvestris 군락으로 구분되었다. 관목층이하의 교목성 수종을 토대로 천이경향을 분석한 결과, V. myrtillus-P. sylvestris 군락, Pteridium aquilium-Pinus sylvestris 군락 그리고 Molinia caerulea-Pinus sylvestris 군락은 참나무류림의 도중단계를 지나 유럽너도밤나무(Fagus sylvatica)림으로, Festuca tenuifolia-Pinus sylvestris 군락은 구주적송이 극상림으로 남을 것으로 예상되었다.

Physiological Response of Tetrapleura tetraptera (Schum. and Thonn.) Taub. to Soil Textural Class, Moisture and Light Intensity

  • Investigation was carried out on response of Tetrapleura tetraptera (Schum. and Thonn.) to soil, water and light with the view of its domestication and introduction to different ecological regions. The experiment was arranged in a factorial experiment of $3{\times}3{\times}3$ in a completely randomized design (CRD) with three replicates. The factors were: soil textural class (Loamy sand, Sand and Sandy clay loam), watering regime (daily, twice a week and once a week) and light intensity (100%, 75% and 50%). Soil textural classes had significant influence on collar diameter, stem height, number of leaflets, root/shoot ratio and relative growth rate of Tetrapleura seedlings. Seedlings grown on loamy sand recorded the highest mean value- 2.28 mm for collar diameter, stem height- 12.9 cm, number of leaflets- 19.9, chlorophyll b- $0.34mg\;mL^{-1}$, leaf relative water content- 27.4% and relative growth rate- $0.037mg\;g^{-1}\;day^{-1}$. Watering regime had significant influence on the collar diameter of Tetrapleura. Seedlings watered daily recorded the highest mean value- 2.25 mm for collar diameter. Light intensity significantly influenced collar diameter and root/shoot ratio. Seedlings exposed to 100% light intensity recorded higher mean value for collar diameter- 2.28 mm and root/shoot ratio- 1.481 cm. The interaction between soil textural class and light intensity significantly affected collar diameter, stem height and number of leaflets. Higher mean value for collar diameter (2.47 mm) stem height (13.25 cm) and number of leaflets (21.16) were recorded while the interaction between soil textural class, light intensity and watering regime was significant for only number of leaflets. Tetrapleura exhibited some level of tolerance to different soil texture, drought and light intensity. Therefore, Tetrapleura has the potentials to be raised in different ecological zones characterized by difference in soil, rainfall and amount of sunshine.

  • While urban regeneration projects are currently under active execution in several old cities in Korea, there are few projects to improve the quality of life of rural communities. Considering the decline of the SOC system, deterioration of housing, and degeneration of economic feasibility, the purpose of this study is to provide solutions to realize an improved economic and social environment of rural communities through an integrated management system for traffic safety and water management systems. Therefore, this research used an Entity-Relationship Diagram to construct an integrated system for traffic safety and water management systems for Chungcheong rural communities. The ERD is prepared by depicting 7 relationships for 13 entities, including traffic accidents and agricultural products, and 26 attributes, including soil moisture and underflow storage. Consequently, it will be possible to set up a decision-making support system that can analyze and evaluate the regeneration index, technology, and management of the systems for Chungcheong rural communities, based on supplier and user perspectives

Effects of Soil Acidity and Organic Matter by Application of Organic Materials and Soil Mulching with Pine Needles for Soil Surface Management in Blueberry Eco-Friendly Farming

  • The blueberry eco-friendly farming requires the soil condition of pH 4.2 ~ 5.2 and high in organic matters for stable growth. Most of soil types of blueberry-growing land in Korea, however, belongs to alkaline soils with low organic matter content. As a result, the eco-friendly blueberry growers use peat moss and sulfur powder heavily to improve the soil condition, but the guideline on the effective use of organic materials was not established yet. Therefore, this sturdy was performed to investigate the effect of increasing soil acidity and organic matters by using organic materials. Among 5 organic materials, the pH of soil was lowest in degradable sulfur + bentonite (pH 4.1) and followed by Peat moss+Chaff+Pine Needlesmixtures(pH 4.5), OrganicAcid +vinegar (pH 4.7), Sulfur powder (pH 4.8), Temperature response Elutioner (pH 5.2). The soil organic matter content were increased in the following order: Peat moss+Chaff+Pine Needlesmixtures (8.4%) > degradable sulfur + bentonite (7.8%) > Organic Acid + vinegar (7.2%) > Sulfur powder ${\fallingdotseq}$ Temperature response Elutioner (6.3%). Although different in the degree, all organic materials treated was recognized a good material for improving soil pH and organic matter content. The plant height and stem diameter of blueberry were no clear difference among 5 organic materials. Another study was carried out to investigate amending soils with organic matter by soil mulching with pine needles for soil surface management in blueberry organic cultivation. The effect of increasing the soil pH by pine needle mulching in blueberry eco-friendly farming was recognized in four test fields. Pine needle mulching for soil surface management in blueberry appeared several advantages, such as improving of soil pH and organic matter content. Therefore, pineneedle mulching in blueberry organic farming is considered as the most efficient means of mulching cultivation for amending soil pH, weed suppression and moisture conservation among mulching materials.

농촌유역에서의 초기강우손실 특성분석과 계수 산정식 개발 - 금강.삽교천 중소유역을 중심으로- (Characteristic Analysis of the Coefficient of Initial Abstraction and Development of its Formular in the Rural Watersheds - for the Small-Medium Watersheds in the Geum and Sapkyo River -)

  • It is important to estimate accurate effective rainfall to analyse flood flow and long-term runoff for the rational planning, design, and management of water resource. The initial abstraction is also important to estimate effective rainfall. The Soil Conservation Service (SCS) has developed a procedure and it has been most commonly applied to estimate effective rainfall. But the SCS method still has weak points, because of unnatural assumptions such as antecedent moisture conditions and initial abstraction. The coefficient of initial abstraction(K) is depending on the soil moisture condition and antecedent rainfall. The maximum storage capacity of Umax which is calibrated by stream flow data in the proposed watershed was derived from the DAWAST(DAily WAtershed STreamflow) model. The values of K obtained from 69 storm events at the five watersheds are ranging from 0.133 to 0.365 and its mean value is 0.207. Effective rainfall could be estimated more reasonably by introducing new concept of initial abstraction. The equation of $K=0.076Sa^{0.255}$ was recommended instead of 0.2 and it could be applicable to the small-medium rural watersheds.

  • 최근 기후변화와 하천 제방의 노후화로 인해 수재해 위험이 가중되고 있으나 기존의 재래적인 하천 제방의 점검은 많은 인력과 예산 소모로 많은 한계점들이 존재하다. 이에 따라 효과적인 홍수 대응을 위해 새로운 모니터링과 예/경보 시스템 구축이 필요한 상황이다. 본 연구는 인공위성(Sentinel-1)을 이용한 하천 제방 변위 산출, 수문학적 요인과의 관계 분석 항목들을 결합한 하천 제방 건강상태 모니터링 방법을 제안한다. 본 연구에서 산정한 변동성 지수를 계산하여 4등급으로 구분하였고, 토양 수분의 급증한 결과를 토대로 제방 붕괴 구간이 변동성이 급증한 취약지점 상태로 판단하였다. 향후에는 원격 기술과 분석 항목들을 결합한 포렌식 기법을 통해 기존 제방관리 시스템의 고도화가 가능할 것으로 기대한다.

중량식 라이시미터에서 동계 작물(청보리) 재배에 따른 밭토양 양분수지 (Nutrient Balance during Crop (Forage Barley) Cultivation in Winter Season: A Weighing Lysimeter Study)

  • 중량식 라이시미터를 이용하여 사양질과 식질 토양에서 동계 작물인 청보리 재배 여부에 따른 양분 유출과 양분 수지를 평가하였다. 양분 유출과 관련된 지하 배수량은 식질에서 가장 많았으며, 동계 작물 재배 여부에 따른 토양 수분함량을 비교해보면 나지에서는 사양질과 식질 토양 모두 30-40%를 유지하였고, 청보리 재배구는 생육 재생기인 3-4월에 평균 증발산량이 평균 2.1-6.7 mm·day-1이었으며, 토양 수분함량은 18.1-21.8%까지 낮아졌다. 동계작물 재배 시 봄철 생육재생기에 생체량이 증가함에 따라 증발산량도 증가하기 때문에 수분이 지상부로 이동하므로 양분의 지하유출을 예방할 수 있을 것으로 판단된다. 또한 사양질 토양에서 청보리의 재배에 따른 양분수지는 비료 공급량에 비해 작물 흡수량이 많아 음의 값을 나타냈으며, 토양에 집적된 양분을 이용했을 것으로 추측된다. 따라서 동계에 적정량의 비료를 주고 사료작물을 재배하면 경지 이용률을 높이고, 양분수지를 낮추는데 도움이 될 것으로 판단된다.

골프장의 난지형 잔디에 발생하는 Large patch의 발병 특성 (Characteristics of large patch occurrence at warm-season turfgrass in golf course)

  • This investigation was conducted to develop an integrated disease management system against large patch disease occurred in a golf course. Large patch, brown patch, and Rhizoctonia blight sometimes are used interchangeably by turfgrass managers and researchers, Large patch disease of zoysiagrass is caused by a soilborne fungus called Rhizoctonia solani. Although this fungus is very similar to the one that causes brown patch disease of cool-season turfgrasses in mid-summer. Large patch development is favored by high thatch and soil moisture. Avoid overwatering the turfgrass, especially in the fall or early spring. Poorly-drained areas are very susceptible to injury from large patch and should be reconstructed (draining tiles, etc) to avoid soil saturation. However, control of yellow patch with fungicides is normally not recommended because the disease has only cosmetic effects and symptoms are usually very short-lived. Therefore, we reviewed the symptom of large patch to look for control method by soil management method.

여름철 무강우 시 들잔디 옥상녹화 식재지반에 따른 관수주기 및 관수량 산정 (Computation of Irrigation Interval and Amount as affected by Growing Substrate and Soil Depth Planted with Zoysia japonica in Green Roof during a Dry Summer)

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the irrigation intervals and the amount of suitable growing substrate needed to achieve the desired shallow-extensive green roof system during a dry summer in Korea. In terms of treatment, three types (SL, $P_6P_2L_2$, $P_4P_4L_2$) with varying soil mixture ratios and two types (15 cm, 25 cm) with varying soil depths were created. The results have been analyzed after measuring growth and soil water contents. The difference of growth by treatment was significant in terms of green coverage, height, leaf width and photosynthesis. In measurement of chlorophyll content, no difference was detected when measured against soil depth. According to the growth measurement of Zoysia japonica with respect to differing soil mixture ratios in the 15 cm-deep treatment, a statistical difference was detected at the 0.05 significance level in photosynthesis. In case of green coverage, height, chlorophyll content and leaf width, no statistical significance was observed. In case of the 25 cm-deep treatment, a statistical significance was observed in height and photosynthesis. In terms of green coverage, chlorophyll content and leaf width, no statistical significance was detected. In comparisons of soil moisture tension and soil water contents, the irrigation interval and amount were 8 days and 14.9 L in the SL (15 cm) treatment, respectively. The irrigation interval showed for 10 days a 1.3-fold increase, and the irrigation amount was 27.4 L 1.8-fold more than SL (25 cm), respectively. For $P_6P_2L_2$ (15 cm) treatment, the irrigation interval and amount were 12 days and 20.7 L, respectively. However, an irrigation interval under $P_6P_2L_2$ (25 cm) was for 15 days 1.3 times longer than $P_6P_2L_2$ (15 cm), and an irrigation amount of 40 L was 1.9 times more than that under $P_6P_2L_2$ (15 cm). In $P_4P_4L_2$ (15 cm) treatment, it was indicated that the irrigation interval was 15 days, and the irrigation amount was 19.2 L. It was not needed to irrigate for 16 days under $P_4P_4L_2$ (25 cm) treatment during the dry summer and the longest no-rain periods. The irrigation interval and amount under $P_4P_4L_2$ were 1.8-fold and 1.3-fold, respectively, more than SL treatment as affected by soil mixture ratio. Comparatively $P_4P_4L_2$ had more 1.3-fold and 0.9-fold in irrigation interval and amount more than $P_6P_2L_2$. Therefore, it can be noted that different soil depth and soil mixture ratios had a significant effect on the irrigation interval and amount.
