  • As epidemics were spread over the whole Pyeongan province at 1524, Jungjong commanded the government officers like Kim Sunmong to publish Sokbyeokonbang, known as Ganuibyeokonbang, to cope with the epidemics. They regarded the cause of epidemics as abnormal climate, pathogen or grudge, and named the disease on the basis of cause. To prevent epidemics they presented three kinds of method. They used a charm to calm the people, used Sohaphyangwon to keep from getting infected with them and emphasized the importance of individaul sanitation. They proposed compound herb remedies like Sipsintang, Hyangsosan, Seungmagalgeuntang and so forth according to the symptoms. They presented lots of single herbs used for food or easily seeking herbs to lighten the people's expense, in addition.

  • This study was conducted in order to study the anti-stress effect of Kyogamdan and Sohaphyangwon, and the changes of serum catecholamine, aldosterone and cortisol levels were measured. In this study author gave immobilization stress to rats and got the following results. 1. The contents of norepinephrine in control group were 4.26 ${\pm}$ 0.50, 3.72 ${\pm}$ 0.31ng/ml 3hr, 6hr after an oral administration of Nacl, but in sample A the contents were 3.12 ${\pm}$ 0.33, 3.20 ${\pm}$ 0.41ng/ ml and in sample B were 3.50 ${\pm}$ 0.65, 2.49 ${\pm}$ 0.55ng/ ml. The difference was obvious. 2. The contents of epinephrine in control group were 7.01 ${\pm}$ 0.85, 6.50 ${\pm}$ 0.68ng/ ml after 3hr, 6hr since Nacl was taken, but in sample A the contents were 4.95 ${\pm}$ 0.67, 4.45 ${\pm}$ 0.58ng/ ml and in sample B were 5.87 ${\pm}$ 0.87, 4.33 ${\pm}$ 0.59ng/ ml. The real significance lies in 6hr after administration of Sample A and B. 3. The contents of cortisol in control group were 3.39 ${\pm}$ 0.04, 3.73 ${\pm}$ 0.04ng / ml, but in sample A were 2.99 ${\pm}$ 0.02, 4.74 ${\pm}$ 0.04, and in sample B were 2.69 ${\pm}$ 0.03, 3.79 ${\pm}$ 0.03ng / ml. The real significance lies in 3hr since sample A and B were taken. 4. The aldosterone contents in control group were 1121.90 ${\pm}$ 71.90, 1454.30 ${\pm}$ 168.50 pg / ml, but in sample A were 1198.20 ${\pm}$ 69.10, 1257.50 ${\pm}$ 180.70 and in sample B were 776.30 ${\pm}$ 79.10, 1367.00 ${\pm}$ 170.10 pg / ml. The real significance lies in 3hr Sample B was taken. Base on the results above, it may be concluded that Kyogamdan and Sohaphyangwon are effective to prevent the changes by stress and Sohaphyangwon is better effective than Kyogamdan to prevent stress.

  • FC(free choresterol) plays an important role in normal and pathophysiological cells including that of messenger molecule or dilator of blood vessels in such illnesses as artheriosclerosis, hypertension and myocardial infarction. Smooth muscle and endothelial cell functions in the arteria wall are unified by complex intercellular signalling processes. In arteria comprised of one layer of smooth muscle cells surrounding the endothelium, the close apposition of the two cell types enables a signal derived from one cell to rapidly diffuse to neighboring cells. Experimentation was conducted to investigate the potential contribution of Sohaphyangwon(SHHW) on levels of FC generated by goaded microphages, and mechanisms of protection against ACAT inhibitor. It was found that J774 macrophages, which normally do not express FC were expressed by oxLDL and ACAT inhibitor. SHHW protected cells were found to be resistant to oxLDL and delayed death following the FC. Inhibition of FC formation abolished the protective effect against ACAT inhibitor exposure. Cadiovascular diseases include abnormalities of blood vessels dysfunction of the renin-angiotension system. What relation herbal medicine may have with vessel endothelium necrosis was here studied. In Oriental Medicine, SHHW water extract used for diseases in relation to cardiovascular systems. The resistence to cardiovascular disease of ACAT inhibitor induced J774 macrophage cells were studied through analysis of cell morphological patterns and immunochemistry of SHHW. The results of this study suggest that SHHW has protective effects on the cardiovascular system, and that it is effective in both prevention and treatment of diseases of the cardiovascular system, particularity against necrosis of blood.

  • There were many books on infectious disease prevention act, and still remained 5 books including Ganuibyeokonbang. Epidemics were seriously ill and widely contagious, so it was important to prevent them. Therefore, they wrote various preventive measures from epidemics on those books. They emphasized medication, and used not only compound prescriptions but also singular ones. They wrote 5 compound prescriptions including Sohaphyangwon and many singular ones on Ganuibyeokonbang, and they used folk medicine such as red-beans준 for practical use on that book. On Sinchanbyeokonbang, they emphasized Hyangsosan and presented many prescriptions to specialize in epidemics. Heojun presented various prescriptions for Dangdokyeok on Byeokyeoksinbang, and he excluded incantation methods to cope with epidemics medically. Since Ganuibyeokonbang they had tried to improve personal hygiene such as boiling clothes of patients.
