Development of Mobile Station in the CDMA Mobile System

  • This paper describes the development of the CDMA mobile station to support non-speech, mobile office services such as data, fax, and short message service in addition to voice. We developed some important functions of layer 2 and layer 3. To provide non-speech services, we developed a terminal adapter and user interface software. The description of development process, software architecture and external interfaces required to provide such services is given. The description of a TTA-62 message analysis tool, a mobile station monitoring software, and an automatic test system developed for integration tests and performance measurements is also given.

  • PLS(Pohang Light Source) will begin the PLS-II project that has been funded by the KOREA Government in order to further upgrade the PLS which has operated since 1992. The control system of the PLS-II has distributed control architecture, with two layers of hierarchy; operator interface computer (OIC) layer and machine interface computer (MIC) layer. The OIC layer is based on SUN workstation with UNIX. A number of PC-based consoles allow to remotely operating the machine from the control room. PC-based consoles use the Linux or Windows operation system. Similar consoles in the experimental hall are used to control experiments. The MIC layer is directly interfaced to individual machine devices for low-level data acquisition and control. MIC layer is based on VMEbus standard with vxWorks real-time operating system. Executable application software modules are downloaded from host computers at the system start-up time. The MIC's and host computers are linked through Ethernet network. It should enable the use of hardware and software already developed for specific light source requirements. The core of the EPICS (Experimental Physics and Industrial Control System)[1] has been chosen as the basis for the control system software.

  • The localization accuracy in wireless sensor networks using ranging-based localization algorithms is greatly influenced by the ranging accuracy. Software implementation of HAL(Hardware Abstraction Layer) and MAC(Medium Access Layer) should seamlessly deliver the raw performance of ranging-based localization provided by hardware capability fully to the applications without degrading the raw performance. This paper presents the design and implementation of the software stack for IEEE 802.15.4a which supports normal ranging mode of the Nanotron's NA5TR1 RF chip. The experiment results shows that average ranging error rate with our implementation is 24.5% for the normal mode of the SDS-TWR ranging scheme.

  • MMS (Manufacturing Message Specification) is a communications standard of MAP (Manufacturing Automation Protocol), which is a Network Protocol for Industrial Automation. In the environment of Mini-MAP, MMS is situated in the application layer and on the LLC (Logical Link Control) layer. In this paper, MMS software is implemented on the basis of ISO DIS 9506. The implemented software was tested with Token Passing Bus Network Interface Unit, which was designed in our laboratory and performs the actions of layer 1 and 2.

Modeling the human memory in nerve fields

  • This paper describes the modeling of human memory using a nerve field model which is proposed for modeling the mechanism of brain mathematically. In our model, two phases of memory, retention and recollection, are focused on. The former consists of two stages, short-term memory (STM) and long-term memory (LTM). The proposed model consists of three parts, the STM Layer, LTM Layer and the Intermediate Layer between them. Each of these is constructed by a nerve field. In the STM Layer, memorized information is retained dynamically in the form of the reverberating states of units within the layer, while in the LTM Layer, it is stored statically in the form of structures of the weight on the links between units. the Intermediate Layer is introduced to translate this dynamic representation in the STM Layer to the LTNI Layer, and also to extract the static information from the STM Layer. In addition to this, we consider the recollection of information stored in the LTM. Finally, the behavior of this model is demonstrated by computer simulation.

  • Modern enterprise may be in need of developing the right application programs under rapidly changing business environment in fast time-to-market. But Most of enterprise without business process mechanism are very hard to develop the application needed in time when it will be changing their business. To solve this problem, we propose the business process framework based on the closed architecture. This approach is to develop the right application with reusing software modules in time and easily under rapid business process changing/improving through mapping BPM(Business Process Model), SOA(Service Oriented Architecture), and CBD(Component Based Development). we also define 5-Layers of BPF(Business Process Framework), and BNF(Backus Naur Form) for structuring BPF.

  • A noise simulation software is developed to estimate crosstalk and reflection noise in multi-layer printed circuit boards having upto 20 layers and carrying signals of 100 MHz range. The simulation software can handle up to 1000 nets yielding accurate noise value associated with each net. The calculation results can be used to build optimal printed citcuit boards used in high speed computers and telecommunication equipments.

  • The thesis describes the realization and test of the transport layer operating on the CLNS (Connection Less Network Service) which is specified by ISO 8073 and ADDENDUM 2 protocol. For realization of the transport layer, five modules and interface primitives were definde. This protocol was formally described by SDL (Specification and Description Language) and was programmed in C-language. For verification of the software, protocol tester was implemented and test scenarios were defined. The verification was accomplished based on the test scenarios. Transport Layer software presented in this thesis may be utilized in a real situation with some modifications. Protocol tester presented in this thesis can also be used for verification of other protocol softwares.

Bi-layers Red-emitting Sr2Si5N8:Eu2+ Phosphor and Yellow-emitting YAG:Ce Phosphor: A New Approach for Improving the Color Rendering Index of the Remote Phosphor Packaging WLEDs

  • Due to optimal advances such as chromatic performance, durability, low power consumption, high efficiency, long-lifetime, and excellent environmental friendliness, white LEDs (WLEDs) are widely used in vehicle front lighting, backlighting, decorative lighting, street lighting, and even general lighting. In this paper, the remote packaging WLEDs (RP-WLEDs) with bi-layer red-emitting $Sr_2Si_5N_8:Eu^{2+}$ and yellow-emitting YAG:Ce phosphor was proposed and investigated. The simulation results based on the MATLAB software and the commercial software Light Tools indicated that the color rendering index (CRI) of bi-layer phosphor RP-WLEDs had a significant increase. The CRI had a considerable increase from 72 to 94. In conclusion, the results showed that bi-layer red-emitting $Sr_2Si_5N_8:Eu^{2+}$ and yellow-emitting YAG:Ce phosphor could be a prospective approach for manufacturing RP-WLEDs with enhanced optical properties.
