  • We have successfully developed the KASI (Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute) Solar Imaging Spectrograph (KSIS), which has been originally upgraded from the KASI solar spectrograph that was able to record solar spectra for a given slit region and to inspect the response function of narrow band filters. A prototype KSIS was developed in 2004 by using a scanning mirror in front of the spectrograph slit and a SBIG ST-8XE CCD camera. Its main disadvantage is that it took a long time (about 13 minutes) to scan a whole active region. In this work, we have upgraded the KSIS by installing a much faster Dalsa 1M15 CCD camera, which gives a data acquisition time of about 2.5 minutes. The software for KSIS was also improved for the new CCD camera on the basis of component-based development method. We have successfully made a test observation for a simple and small active region (AR10910) using the improved KSIS system. Our observations show that H-alpha images for several wavelengths have typical features in a sunspot as well as a H-alpha centerline image is quite similar to a BBSO H-alpha image, demonstrating the capability of the KSIS system.

  • In this paper, solar-powered, multi-scale, vibration-impedance sensor node on Imote2 platform is presented for hybrid structural health monitoring (SHM) in cable-stayed bridge. In order to achieve the objective, the following approaches are proposed. Firstly, vibration- and impedance-based hybrid SHM methods are briefly described. Secondly, the multi-scale vibration and impedance sensor node on Imote2-platform is presented on the design of hardware components and embedded software for vibration- and impedance-based SHM. In this approach, a solar-powered energy harvesting is implemented for autonomous operation of the smart sensor nodes. Finally, the feasibility and practicality of the smart sensor-based SHM system is evaluated on a full-scale cable-stayed bridge, Hwamyung Bridge in Korea. Successful level of wireless communication and solar-power supply for smart sensor nodes are verified. Also, vibration and impedance responses measured from the target bridge which experiences various weather conditions are examined for the robust long-term monitoring capability of the smart sensor system.

  • Generally, global performance analysis in offshore platforms is performed using potential-based numerical tools, which neglect hydrodynamic viscous effects. In comparison with the potential theory, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) methods can take into account the viscous effects by solving the Navier-Stokes equation using the finite-volume method. The open-source field operation and manipulation (OpenFOAM) C++ libraries are employed for a finite volume method (FVM) numerical analysis. In this study, in order to apply CFD to the global performance analysis of a hull-mooring coupled system, we developed a numerical wave basin to analyze the global performance problem of a floating body with a catenary mooring system under regular wave conditions. The mooring system was modeled using a catenary equation and solved in a quasi-static condition, which excluded the dynamics of the mooring lines such as the inertia and drag effects. To demonstrate the capability of the numerical basin, the global performance of a barge with four mooring lines was simulated under regular wave conditions. The simulation results were compared to the analysis results from a commercial mooring analysis program, Orcaflex. The comparison included the motion of the barge, catenary shape, and tension in the mooring lines. The study found good agreement between the results from the developed CFD-based numerical calculation and commercial software.

  • There are several factors causing re-work in CMP process such as improper polish time calculation by operator, removal rate decline of the polisher, unstable in-suit pad conditioning, slurry supply module problem and wafer carrier rotation inconsistency. And conclusively those fundimental reason for the re-work rate increasement is mainly from the cycle time delay between wafer polish and post measurement. Therefore, Wafer thickness measurement in wet condition could be able to remove those improper process conditions which may happen during the process in comparison with the conventional dried wafer measurement system and it can be able to reduce the CMP process cycle time. CMP scrap reduction by overpolish, re-work rate reduction, thickness control efficiency also can be easily achieved. CMP Equipment manufacturer also trying to develop integrated system which has multi-head & platen, cleaner, pre & post thickness measure and even control the polish time from the calculated removal rate of each polishing head by software. CMP re-work problem such as over & under polish by target thickness may result in the cycle time delay. By reducing those inefficient factors during the process and establish of the automatic process control, CLC system need to be adopted to maximize the process performance. Wafer to Wafer Polish Time Feed Back Control by measuring the wafer right after the polish shorten the polish time calculation for the next wafer and it lead to the perfect Post CMP target thickness control capability. By Monitoring all of the processed the wafer, CMP process will also be stabilize itself.

  • One of the main reasons of information divide of multi-cultural family is caused by language barrier that is associated with low education level. In addition the social problem can be triggered by the information divide that may increase the gap of economic inequality. With respect to the overall capability of accessibility of digital devices and the level of data utilization, the parent of muiti-cultural family's level is inferior to that of the parents of an ordinary family. However the traditional learning contents management system for those parents is not appropriate to decease the gap of the information divide. To handle this problem, it is necessary to construct a customized learning contents management system that is used to support the education of the parents of multi-cultural family depending on the level of understanding the learning contents written in korean. In this paper we design the korean to korean translation based learning contents management system and show the result of its prototype.

  • An active network is a new generation network based on a software-intensive network architecture in which applications are able to inject new strategies or code into the infrastructure for their immediate needs. Therefore, the secure active node architecture is needed to give the capability defending an active node against threats that may be more dynamic and powerful than those in traditional networks. In this paper, a security enforcement engine is proposed to secure active networks. We implemented an operating engine with security, authentication and a authorization modules. Using this engine, it is possible that active networks are protected from threats of the malicious active node.

  • A new robust approach to detect vehicles in a single frame of traffic scenes is presented. The method is based on the multi-level shadow classification, which has been shown to have the capability of extracting correct shadow shapes regardless of the operating conditions. The rationale of this classification is supported by the fact that shadow regions underneath vehicles usually exhibit darker gray level regardless of the vehicle brightness and illuminating conditions. Classified shadows provide string clues on the presence of vehicles. Unlike other schemes, neither background nor temporal information is utilized; thereby the performance is robust to the abrupt change of weather and the traffic congestion. By a simple evidential reasoning, the shadow evidences are combined with bright evidences to locate correct position of vehicles. Experimental results show the missing rate ranges form 0.9% to 7.2%, while the false alarm rate is below 4% for six traffic scenes sets under different operating conditions. The processing speed for more than 70 frames per second could be obtained for nominal image size, which makes the real-time implementation of measuring the traffic parameters possible.

  • Context-aware mobile computing has become the primary approach to realize automatic, autonomous, and user-centric computing in the context of largely increasing the amount of mobile devices used that embed available sensors. However, designing an inference engine nonetheless requires the tasks of analyzing contexts, situations that can be inferred, etc. Moreover, a mobile device has limited resources and limited computation capability, which results in recognizing the common sense of its unsuitable environment for processing inference. Hence, we propose context-situation reasoning elements and their formal models in this paper, and we verify the formal models' applicability by applying them to an example. Finally, we design and implement an inference engine that realize the context-situation inference elements in computing environment, and we experiment an example by using the proposed inference engine to verify applicability and reusability of the inference engine.
