  • Medical polymers require sterilization and must be able to maintain material properties for a specified shelf life. Sterilization can be achieved by using gamma or e-beam exposure. In this study, accelerated aging tests of poly(ether-block-amide) (PEBA) copolymer samples is presented. PEBA copolymer samples with different polyether content that result in Shore hardness of 35D to 72D, were sterilized using e-beam radiation followed by accelerated aging at $55^{\circ}C$. E-beam sterilization effect on molecular weight and mechanical property has performed and analyzed. The average molecular weight significantly reduced as a result of ageing. The enlarged proportion of low molecular weight chains in the aged samples is consistent with the generation of degradation products produced by oxidative chain scission. Also E-beam materials have shown decreased tensile strength and elongation. Overall, this study demonstrated that the medical grade PEBA was significantly affected by radiation exposure over aging time, particularly at high irradiation doses. For medical use in case of radiation sterilization required, it is recommended to avoid Pebax material. If Pebax material must be in use for medical device, recommend to use alternate sterilization method such as Ethylene Oxide sterilization.

  • Oral implants must fulfill certain criteria arising from special demands of function, which include biocompatibility, adequate mechanical strength, optimum soft and hard tissue integration, and transmission of functional forces to bone within physiological limits. And one of the critical elements influencing the long-term uncompromise functioning of oral implants is load distribution at the implant- bone interface, Factors that affect the load transfer at the bone-implant interface include the type of loading, material properties of the implant and prosthesis, implant geometry, surface structure, quality and quantity of the surrounding bone, and nature of the bone-implant interface. To understand the biomechanical behavior of dental implants, validation of stress and strain measurements is required. The finite element analysis (FEA) has been applied to the dental implant field to predict stress distribution patterns in the implant-bone interface by comparison of various implant designs. This method offers the advantage of solving complex structural problems by dividing them into smaller and simpler interrelated sections by using mathematical techniques. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the stresses induced around the implants in bone using FEA, A 3D FEA computer software (SOLIDWORKS 2004, DASSO SYSTEM, France) was used for the analysis of clinical simulations. Two types (external and internal) of implants of 4.1 mm diameter, 12.0 mm length were buried in 4 types of bone modeled. Vertical and oblique forces of lOON were applied on the center of the abutment, and the values of von Mises equivalent stress at the implant-bone interface were computed. The results showed that von Mises stresses at the marginal. bone were higher under oblique load than under vertical load, and the stresses were higher at the lingual marginal bone than at the buccal marginal bone under oblique load. Under vertical and oblique load, the stress in type I, II, III bone was found to be the highest at the marginal bone and the lowest at the bone around apical portions of implant. Higher stresses occurred at the top of the crestal region and lower stresses occurred near the tip of the implant with greater thickness of the cortical shell while high stresses surrounded the fixture apex for type N. The stresses in the crestal region were higher in Model 2 than in Model 1, the stresses near the tip of the implant were higher in Model 1 than Model 2, and Model 2 showed more effective stress distribution than Model.

  • Seismic refracrion and reflection surveys were conducted along an E-W trending track of 482 m long in Ilwall-dong, Pohang. End-on spread was employed as source-receiver configuration with 2 m for both geophone interval and offset. Seismic data were acquired using 24 channels at every shot fired every 2 m along the track. Refraction data were interpreted using equations for multi-horizontal layers. Reflection data were processed in the sequence of trace edit, gain control, CMP sorting, NMO correction, mute, common offset gathering, and filtering to produce a single fold seismic section. There are two layers in shallow subsurface of the study area. Upper layer has the P-wave velocities ranging from 267 to 566 m/s and is interpreted as a layer of unconsolidated sediments. Lower layer has P-wave velocities of 1096-3108 m/s and is interpreted as weathered rock to hard rock. Most of the lower layer classified as soft rock. Upper layer has lateral variations in both P-wave velocity and thickness. The upper layer in the eastern part of the seismic line is 3-5 m thick and has P-wave velocity of 400 m/s in average. The upper layer in the western part is 8-10 m thick and has P-wave velocity of 340 m/s in average. The eastern part is interpreted as unconsolidated beach sand, while the western part is interpreted as infilled soil to develop a construction site. Three fault systems of high angle are imaged in seismic reflection section. It is interpreted that the area between these fault systems are relatively safe. Large buildings should be located in the safe ground condition of no fault and footings should be designed to be in the basement rock of 3-10 m deep below the surface.

  • Underwater acoustic communications has been limited use for military purposes in the past. However, the fields of underwater applications expend to detection, submarine and communication in recent. The excessive multipath encountered in underwater acoustic communication channel is creating inter symbol interference, which is limiting factor to achieve a high data rate and bit error rate performance. To improve the performance of a received signal in underwater communication, many researchers have been studied for channel coding scheme with excellent performance at low SNR. In this paper, we applied BCJR decoder based ( 2,1,7 ) convolution codes and to compensate for the distorted data induced by the multipath, we applying the turbo equalization method. Through the underwater experiment on the Gyeungcheun lake located in Mungyeng city, we confirmed that turbo equalization structure of BCJR has better performance than hard decision and soft decision of Viterbi decoding. We also confirmed that the error rate of decoder input is less than error rate of $10^{-1}$, all the data is decoded. We achieved sucess rate of 83% through the experiment.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the effect of environmental factors affecting emergence and control of Sagittaria pygmaea Miquel in greenhouse. Emergence of S. pygmaea delayed as the amount of rice straw increased. When the tuber was sowned at 5 to 7㎝ soil depth the emergence of S. pygmaea delayed more in the hard condition of soil than that of the soft condition the large size tuber of S. pygmaea showed less control rate than the small size one at the rate of 2 to 3㎏ prod/10a of butachlor-naproanilide mixtures. The tubers of S. pygmaea seeded at the deeper soil depth decreased weeding efficicy of this mixture. Butachlor-naproanilide mikture showed higher weeding effects at the high temperature and at 2 to 4cm depths of water management than those of the low temperature and at 0cm and 6cm water depths. Weed control rate increased as the rate of butachlor-naproanilide mixture increased. The rate of 4㎏ (prod.)/10a showed good weed effect regardless of application times till 7.5 leaf stage of S. pygmaea. Tuber production of S. pygmea increased as the application time of mixture delayed.

  • Leaf spots in Saintpaulia leaves are caused by temperature drop shock (TDS). This TDS-mediated leaf injury has not been reported in other plants besides Saintpaulia. To investigate how many and what kinds of plants are susceptible to temperature drop shock, Gesneriaceae and Acanthaceae plants were treated with TDS (from $30^{\circ}C$ to $15^{\circ}C$ or $5^{\circ}C$). Yellow or brown spots were found in 26 species or cultivars of 10 genuses of Gesneriaceae plants and in 8 species or cultivars of 7 genuses of Acanthaceae plants. Morphologically and anatomically no similarity was observed among the plants susceptible to TDS. Some plants have very thin and hard leaves, whereas other plants have thick and soft leaves. In spite of this non-similarity, the injury was restricted only to palisade cells as those of Saintpaulia leaves. Also the rapid and irreversible reduction of chlorophyll fluorescence was observed soon after TDS treatment in those plants. These results indicate that leaf injury induced by TDS is a more widespread leaf injury than has previously been thought.

  • The method for the measurement of texture hardening phenomena, which is the limiting factor of shelf-life of Yaksik in the market, was established. The changes in the hardening rate by the processing conditions and the storage temperature and time were examined. The standard sample made by traditional method could be kept at room temperature$(20{\circ}C)$ for 3 days and the multipuncture force measured at the end of marketable quality was 700g. The hardening rate increased rapidly by storing at $5^{\circ}C$ and the ratio of hardening rate constants between room temperature and $5^{\circ}C$ storage reached to $1.3{\sim}3.3$ depending on the processing condition. The largest ratio was observed by the sample made from pressure cooker. The addition of corn syrup retarded the hardening rate. The pressure cooking resulted in making too soft product, which diminished the panel preference, but it extend the shelf-life when products were stored at $5^{\circ}C$ microwave cooking resulted in making too hard texture which was not acceptable. The overall quality preference of Yaksik was decided by the textural preference and the latter showed significant inverse correlation with the maximum force of multipuncture test. Therefore, it was concluded that multipuncture test was useful for the measurement of the quality of Yaksik.

  • The purpose of this research is to investigate the types of name spectrum and their characteristics of domestic fashion brand names focusing on women' wear and bisex wear, and also studied the differences based on the sex of brand target. 224 of women's wear brands and 99 of bisex wear brands were selected from ‘2002 Korea Fashion Yearbook’ under the criterion that their brand names were made in Korea and they should engage in business in 2002. The data analysis quatitatively evaluate the frequency and qualitatively evalute the image of brand product and the meaning of brand name. The result as follows; 1.The domestic fashion brands for women's and bisex wear appeared to have to three types of name spectrum ; the descriptive name was the most frequently used one, then followed by the arbitrary, and the suggestive name. There were only one coined brand name and no generic brand name. 2. The characteristics of descriptive brand name was that, in most cases, it used the name of designer. For the suggestive brand name, it implied the features or the image of its products. For the arbitrary brand name, some bear the ideology or the foundation belief of company itself. 3. For women's wear, the discriptive name appeared most, and followed by arbitrary, and the suggestive name. For bisex wear, the suggestive brand name appeared most, and followed by arbitrary name, and the discriptive name. 4. For descriptive brand name, the names of designer were used most in women's wear brands. Otherwise, the brand names that directly described the image or the characteristics of products were used most in bisex wear brands. For suggestive brand name, soft and feminine images were prevailed in women's wear brand names but comfotable and casual images were dominent in bisexsual brand names. For arbitrary brand name, as the various types of languages were combined and the various meanings and words were mixed, and imply the various meanings in both cases, it was hard to classify the characteristics into some categories.
