  • During the past decade, giant magnetotransport phenomena such as giant magetoresistance (GMR) in thin films and in manganese perovskites, and, giant magnetoimpedance (GMI) in soft magnetic amorphous ribbons, have brought much interest in the basic physical understanding and their applications as magnetic recording heads and in magnetic sensors technology. Among the parameters required for the quality of a magnetic sensor, temperature dependences of GMR and GMI profiles are playing an important role. In the present work, we have studied temperature dependences of the longitudinal permeability and giant magnetoimpedance effect in $Co_{70}$F $e_{5}$S $i_{15}$ N $b_{2.2}$C $u_{0.8}$ $B_{7}$ amorphous ribbons expecting as a promising candidate in the domain of magnetic sensors.rs.rs.rs.s.

  • Amorphous magnetic materials with competing magnetic interactions are the subject of current interest. Critical behaviour studies have been performed in order to understand the nature of the phase transition at the Curie point (T$\sub$c/) and type of magnetic ordering below the T$\sub$c/. In some cases there exists a temperature interval in which the magnetic system consists of ferromagnetic grains separated by the paramagnetic interlayers. Magnetic properties of nanoparticles embedded in amorphous matrix also are the subject of recent interest. While these materials exhibit excellent soft magnetic properties at room temperature, some of them have been found to be superparamagnetic in the temperature range above the T$\sub$c/ of the matrix. Thus the role of different magnetic phases in the intergrain magnetic coupling can possibly be taken apart in a sufficiently broad temperature range and investigated separately. In particular materials with competing magnetic exchange interactions show characteristics of enhanced magnetoresistance and softer magnetic properties when magnetic nanocrystals are dispersed in amorphous matrix. We expect careful magnetic measurements in the vicinity of T$\sub$c/ would throw some light on magnetic behaviour of above materials. We present here the FMR analysis of Fe$\sub$82/Mn$\sub$8-x/B$\sub$x/Zr$\sub$10/ alloy near the Curie point.

  • A double rectangular spiral inductor is fabricated using FeTaN films. The inductor is composed of internal coils sandwiched by magnetic layers. Characteristics of inductor performance are investigated with an emphasis on planarization of magnetic films. In the absence of the planarization process, the grating topology of upper magnetic films over coil arrays degrades the soft magnetic properties and the inductor performance. It also induces a longitudinal magnetic anisotropy with the easy axis aligned to the magnetic flux direction. This alignment prevents the upper magnetic films from contributing to the total induction. Glass bonding is a viable method for achieving a completely planar inductor structure. The planar inductor with glass bonding shows excellent performance : inductance of 1.1 H, Q factor of 7 (at 5 MHz), and the dc current capability up to 100 mA.

  • The nanocrystalline Fe$_{84}$Zr$_{7}$B$_{6}$Cu$_{1}$ $Al_{2}$ alloy was annealed at 450 $^{\circ}C$ and 550 $^{\circ}C$ for l hour to achieve the ultra-soft magnetic properties such as large magnetoimpedence ratio(MIR), the incremental permeability ratio(PR), nearly zero coercivity, zero magnetostriction, etc. The PR and MIR of the sample were measured from 100 kHz to 10 MHz at a cryogenic chamber where the temperature can be varie from 10 K to 300 K. The increment of MIR value is proportional to increasing temperature. The maximum PR values measured at high frequency above 1 MHz remain almost same despite of the temperature variation from 10 K to 300 K except the sharpness in PR curves. However, the maximum PR values measured below 1 MHz show drastic increment at above 150K due to thermal activation of magnetic domains.s.s.

  • Magnetic and structural properties of $(CoFe_2O_4)_{1-x}(Y_3Fe_5O_{12})_x$ powders (0 $\leq$ x $\leq$ 1) grown by a conventional ceramic method were investigated using X-ray diffractormeter (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Mossbauer spectroscopy and vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM). The XRD results for the powders annealed at 120$0^{\circ}C$ indicated that no other peak was observed except for the ones from cobalt ferrite and the garnet powder. SEM micrographs indicated that cobalt ferrite and garnet powders were aggregated and completely formed together. It was hard to identify which part of the powders was the garnet or the cobalt ferrite. Mossbauer spectra for powders grown separately and mixed mechanically consisted of sub-spectra of cobalt ferrite and garnet, however, powders annealed together had an extra sub-spectrum, which was related with the interaction between iron ions at the grain surfaces of cobalt ferrite and the garnet: cobalt ferrite and garnet particles were located very closely. The value of the saturation magnetization measured by a VSM as a function of composition ratio agreed very well with the ones based on the theoretical calculation.

  • The effect of annealing on the magnetic properties and the microstructures of the amorphous $Fe_{76-x}Cu_1Mo_xSi_{14}B_9$(x=2,3) alloys were investigated. When annealed at 500${^{\circ}C}$ for 1hr, $8{\sim}9{\times}10^3$ of the effective permeability and 3~4 A/m of the coercive force were achieved upon crystallization to $\alpha$-Fe phase. And the average diameter of the $\alpha$-Fe grains was about 20nm. For the nanovrystalline ferromagnets. the fine grain size is the important requirement to obtain a good soft magnetic property. In this work, in order to get the finer grain size of $\alpha$-Fe phase, two-step annealing treatment was given. That is, following the low-temperature at $400{^{\circ}C}$ for 1~3hr, the high-temperature annealing at $500{^{\circ}C}$ for 1hr was carried out. As the low-temperature annealing time increased, the effective permeability increased to $1.2{\sim}1.7{\times}10^4$ and the coercive force decreased to about 2 A/m. And the grain size was observed to be smaller than 10nm. The increased permeability and the decreased coercive force were attributed to the reduced average crystalline anisotropy by the refinement of $\alpha$-Fe(Si) grains.

  • The magnetic properties of the amorphous $Fe_{73.5-X}Co_{X}Cu_{1}Nb_{3}Si_{13.5}B_{9}(x=2,\;4)$ alloys, fabricated by a single roll rapid quenching technique and annealed at $400~650^{\circ}C$, have been investigated. The optimum annealing temperature is $550^{\circ}C$ for the amorphous $Fe_{71.5}Co_{2}Cu_{1}Nb_{3}Si_{13.5}B_{9}$ alloy. The properties of the nanocrystalline $Fe_{71.5}Co_{2}Cu_{1}Nb_{3}Si_{13.5}B_{9}$ alloy show the relative permeability of $1.1{\times}10^{4}$ and the coercive force of 0.22 Oe at 1 kHz. When annealed at $600^{\circ}C$, the nanocrystalline $Fe_{69.5}Co_{4}Cu_{1}Nb_{3}Si_{13.5)B_{9}$ alloy shows the relative permeability of $1.0{\times}10^{4}$ and the coercive force of 0.19 Oe at 1 kHz. From the X-ray measurement, it is found that the remarkably improved soft magnetic properties are the effect of the formation of $\alpha$-Fe(Si) grain. By the results of FMR exper-imeIlt, the optimum annealing condition is just below temperature which the peak-to-peak line width of FMR spectrum increase rapidly.

  • The crystallographic and high frequency characteristics of $Fe_{73.9}Cu_{1.0}Nb_{3.5}Si_{14.0}B_{7.6}$ soft magnetic alloys were investigated under the magnetic field annealing. As-cast ribbon with which already imbedded nanocrystalline Fe-Si phase on the surface have a preferred orientation with (400) plane to surface and also with the [011] direction parallel to the ribbon length. The extra nanocrystalline Fe-Si phase appeared throughout at 45$0^{\circ}C$ in samples with or without the longitudinal magnetic field. However the formation of nanocrystalline phase does not appear on the suface layer until 50$0^{\circ}C$ annealing temperature under the transverse field. The cryststallization fraction of annealed samples with longitudinal magnetic field is higher than that of samples without magnetic field. When the transverse magnetic field is applied, the crystallization fraction does not increases but decreases until 50$0^{\circ}C$. However the crystallization of internal regions can be confirmed by X-ray diffraction measurement via tilting the sample. It was found that for all samples, the saturation induction were all same with 1.3 T. The coercive field of as-cast sample was 1.06 A/cm, but in annealed samples it decrease from 0.56 to 0.1 A/cm with increasing annealing temperature from 400 and 55$0^{\circ}C$, respectively. The squareness of annealed samples under transverse magnetic field has a small value than that of both without field and with longitudinal field annealing.

  • Fe-3, 4.2 and 6.8% Si compressed cores were fabricated, and then electrical resistivity, AC and DC magnetic properties, microhardness, and other properties were analyzed in order to know whether best soft magnetic properties could be also obtained in an Fe-Si compressed core with the well-known composition of Fe-6.5% Si. With increasing the silicon content, eddy current loss and hysteresis loss decreased and increased, respectively, so that a minimum total loss was not obtained in the well-known Fe-6.8 % Si cores, but obtained in the Fe-4.2 % Si cores. Also electrical resistivity of the cores and hardness of the particles increased monotonously with silicon content so that compaction ratio of the cores decreased. B2 and $DO_3$ ordered phase could be observed only in Fe-6.8% Si powder. A minimum loss and highest permeability of the Fe-4.2 % Si cores can be explained by the ratio of specific electrical resistivity of insulator to that of magnetic particles, micro-hardness, compaction ratio and demagnetization coefficient of the Fe-Si powder particles with silicon content.

  • The model for the magneto-impedance of composite wires composed of highly conductive nonmagnetic metal core and soft magnetic shell was derived based on the Maxwell's equations. The Cu($100{\mu}m$ diameter)/$Ni_{80}Fe_{20}$($15{\mu}m$ thickness) core/shell composite wire was fabricated by electrodeposition. The impedance spectra for the $Cu/Ni_{80}Fe_{20}$ core/shell composite wire were measured in the frequency range of 10 kHz~10 MHz under longitudinal dc magnetic field in 0 Oe~200 Oe. The spectra of complex permeability in circumferential direction were extracted from the impedance spectra by using the derived model. The extracted spectra of complex permeability showed relaxation-type dispersion which is well curve-fitted with Debye equation with single relaxation frequency. By analyzing the magnetic field dependence of the complex permeability spectra, it has been verified that the composite wire has magnetic anisotropy in longitudinal direction and the origin of the single relaxation process is the magnetization rotation in circumferential direction.
