  • In a few years, a variety of mobile devices are expected to be utilized as a necessity for business as well as personal communications. Thus it is needed to conduct a comprehensive study on the acceptance of mobile devices in the mature market like Korea. This paper develops an extended technology acceptance model by including functional attributes of cellular phone and examines the determinant factors causing accepting cellular phones. Our empirical analysis through the internet survey shows that 1) among the determinant factors, perceived usefulness, perceived enjoyment or fun, and social pressure have positive direct impacts on the intention of accepting cellular phone, and 2) functional attributes of cellular phone affect the determinant factors differently.

  • People can differently act online than in real-life. Their virtual identities may allow them to express themselves more freely. In this perspective, there is a self-discrepancy between virtual- and real-life. Due to the anonymity, people can feel free to express who actually they are online without considering social pressure. Especially, for those people who live in a repressed society, virtual-selves can play a significant role to achieve their well-being. For this reason, a self-discrepancy between actual- and virtual-self related to well-being was studied. With 183 survey responses, political freedom, extraversion and neuroticism are identified as significant influencers of subjective well-being (SWB). In addition, an increase in self-discrepancy between virtual- and real-life for 'unhappy' people leads to an increased online well-being, which is contradictory to Higgins' self-discrepancy theory.

  • Goldingham's measurement of the velocity of sound undertaken in the early nineteenth century was the first large-scale measuring enterprise which considered various meteorological factors such as temperature, humidity, atmospheric pressure, the direction of the wind, etc. Goldingham's successful performance of measuring the velocity of sound by employing the sounds of cannons as sound source in Madras (now Chennai), a colonial region of India, for one and a half years was supported by material, institutional and social resources. As the official astronomer at the Madras Observatory, he was benefitted by the undemanding employment of accurate measuring instruments under the support of the Madras Army enabled him to gain reliable data and his reputation as professional experimentalist facilitated the acknowledgment of their trustworthiness.

  • The authors address the problem of ameliorating or updating existing educational buildings. This building typology is quite sensitive to social and media pressure, mainly when accidents have occurred nearby. When a building is classified as unsatisfactory, the current code requirements oblige one to re-design the building with significant penalty factors in the resistance values. Often the only solution is to destroy the existing facility and to build a new one. When attempting to preserve the existing building, higher levels of safety are demanded by the society and this can only be achieved by innovative system architectures. The authors propose and discuss a prototype that can be easily adopted to retrofit small educational buildings as the ones common in small municipalities. The higher performance is pursued by a special design of the control scheme, with new control devices and special control laws.

  • In a turn a century, the skepticism, mysticism and eroticism used to prevail, the people becoming anxious, expectative and doubtful about an oncoming age. The costumes tend to become more exciting and erotic in the fashion. This thesis is on understanding “What would 21 century's clothes be\ulcorner” after analyzing the specific points in an end of the century. The characteristics found from 16th century to 20th century are going to the extremes in the shapes, consistent appearance of bustle style costumes and excessive ornaments which are closely interrelated with one another. I expect the fashion in 21st century would be changed in two ways. Firstly, going to the extremes and stressing on the buttock would be going down in the end of 1999. Secondly, the comfortable clothes highest in function and technology, and also friendly to the environment, might be the main stream, rather then outwardly good looking clothes, because spirit and environment is much more emphasized than the mode by the social impact or pressure in the next era. • This paper proposes a simple, approachable game via mobile application in order to change the attitudes of the general public towards donation. This game can become one of many representative online activities of NGOs(Non Government Organization). Also, as it is a song game, the public can enjoy it rather than feeling pressure. This study is expected to energize the industry of donation applications and contribute to the settlement of a popular giving culture through NGOs, corporations, and SNS(Social Networking System).

  • Until now, product mostly has revealed physical quantities created by the standpoint of engineers. Consumers, however, perceive and evaluate products on the non-physical characteristics, such as feelings, emotions, and experiences in different social and cultural situations. Especially, for the household appliances such as a refrigerator, the sound is heavily related to the satisfaction of a customer who is a real user of the product and is very important factor to decide purchasing as well as visual design. Therefore, in this research, not only the simple sound pressure level but also the consumer's sense of hearing evaluate the noise from the refrigerator. And also, in order to improve the quality of sound through the design change, the consumer's evaluation is analyzed and related to the engineering quantities.

  • School closures during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic have been outlined in studies from different disciplines, including economics, sociology, mathematical modeling, epidemiology, and public health. In this review, we discuss the implications of school closures in the context of the current COVID-19 pandemic. Modeling studies of the effects of school closures, largely derived from the pandemic influenza model, on severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 produced conflicting results. Earlier studies assessed the risk of school reopening by modeling transmission across schools and communities; however, it remains unclear whether the risk is due to increased transmission in adults or children. The empirical findings of the impact of school closures on COVID-19 outbreaks suggest no clear effect, likely because of heterogeneity in community infection pressure, differences in school closure strategies, or the use of multiple interventions. The benefits of school closings are unclear and not readily quantifiable; however, they must be weighed against the potential high social costs, which can also negatively affect the health of this generation.

Analysis of the impact of market orientation to organizational performance used regression analysis through structural equation modelling. As a result of the analysis, market orientation was affected by organizational performance. Based on the results, this study suggests that nonprofit human service organizations should need market orientation centered organization management and sensitive response toward external environment.

  • This study examines how people perceive and experience busyness, which is a great social pressure in the Korean society, and The socio-psychological motives that drive people's different paces of life, such as busyness or slowness, despite being in the same busy reality, were examined. Furthermore, an in-depth study was conducted on the adaptation factors in the real society according to the speed of individual life. The analysis of this study was based on an in-depth interview data of 21 unmarried men and women in their 20s and 30s, and was conducted using a phenomenological qualitative analysis method. As a result, the perception and experience of being busy had both positive and negative parts. The components of socio-psychological motivation that affect the speed of an individual's life are 'internalization of positive values of (busy/rest)', '(future/present) centric', 'selection & concentration/Inertial busyness', 'personality characteristics' were derived. In addition, 'self-selection', 'successful time management', and 'maintenance of psychological health' were derived as common factors among adaptation factors in real society, 'a sense of achievement' and 'understanding and accepting self-characteristics' were derived as discriminatory factors. became Based on these results, the value and meaning of being busy in Korean society was discussed from a social psychology perspective, and a new perspective was presented to existing studies and discussions related to the speed of life. In addition, several follow-up studies were proposed.
