This article is a sub-section of a comparative analysis of depictions of violence in Jakarta's Museum of the Indonesian Communist Party's Treachery, Ho Chi Minh City's War Remnants Museum, and Phnom Penh's Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum. In comparing these public history sites, I analyze how memories of mass violence were central to state formation in both Suharto's anti-Communist New Order (1966-1998), the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (1976-present), and Cambodia since the collapse of Democratic Kampuchea (1979-present). While this comparison points out specific distinctions about the role of the military, the nature of revolution, and conceptions of gender, it argues for a central similarity in the use of a mythology of victimization in building these post-conflict nation-states. This article focuses on my gendered analysis of the use of images of women and children in each museum. Depending on context and political purpose, these museums cast women as tragic victim, revolutionary heroine, or threat to the social order. My analysis of gender places stereotypical images of violence against women (the trope of women and children as the ultimate victims) in conversation with dark fantasies of women as perpetrators of savage violence and heroic images of women liberated by participation in violence.
This paper examines how Japanese society produced and reproduced a distinctively gendered history and memories of the experience of WWII and colonialism in the postwar era. We argue that these gendered narratives, which were embedded in postwar debates about the Peace Constitution and comfort women, have engendered contradictions and made the historical conflicts with neighboring countries challenging to resolve. On the one hand, this deepens conflict, but on the other, it also generates stability in East Asia. After Japan's defeat in WWII, the American Occupation government created the Peace Constitution, which permanently "renounces war as a sovereign right of the nation and the threat or use of force as means of settling international disputes." The removal of the state's monopoly on violence - the symbol of masculinity - resulted in Japan's feminization. This feminization led to collective forgetting of prewar imperialism and militarism in postwar Japan. While collectively forgetting the wartime history of comfort women within these feminized narratives, the conservative movement to revise the Peace Constitution attempted to recover Japan's masculinity for a new, autonomous role in international politics, as uncertainty in East Asia increased. Ironically, however, this effort strengthened Japan's femininity because it involved forgetting Japan's masculine role in the past. This forgetting has undermined efforts to achieve masculine independence, thus reinforcing dependence on the United States. Recurrent debates about the Peace Constitution and comfort women have influenced how Japanese political elites and intellectual society have constructed distinctive social institutions, imagined foreign relations, and framed contemporary problems, as indicated in their gendered restructuring of history.

The purpose of this study is to examine how Korean dance affects middle-aged women by acting as a cultural mediator. A qualitative approach was taken in order to best achieve the purpose of this study. The data used in this study were collected from Feb 10th to April 1st, 2016, using in-depth interviews. The results are as follows; firstly, on an emotional level, the middle-aged women participating in Korean dance as a cultural mediator, feel a sense of self-achievement and social belonging, as well as experiencing an improvement in their psychological stability by resolving their depression. Those who had lost their sense of autonomy and productivity were able to recover some of their self-esteem through this activity. Secondly, in terms of their activity, the Korean dance enabled the ladies to exercise their poorly used muscles by strengthening their gross and fine motor skills through the movements associated with the Korean traditional music. This allowed them to ease their chronic physical pain and it can be considered that their overall exercise function was increased by expanding their exercise radius. Third, in the cognitive area, it was possible for them to revive their happy memories by listening to the music which was loved by their preceding generations. This is because the melody of familiar Korean music provides them with the chance to remember their former days. Lastly, in the social area, the Korean dance allowed the middle-aged women to accept themselves through music and movement, as well as playing the role of a mediator which enabled them to overcome their isolation and the conflicts they face in their social relations. In addition, they achieved self-realization by reconnecting with the regional community through the Korean dance performances, which they learned as social community members.
This study attempts, using qualitative research methods, to identify a series of complex processes and mechanisms that turn the differences in the parents' education levels and occupational statuses into the gaps between their children's academic achievements. The highly educated parents with high occupational status are obsessed with top universities while the less educated parents with low occupational status tend to be less interested in educational capital. The highly educated middle-class parents themselves have strong educational aspirations. They also try to inspire educational aspirations and academic enthusiasm in their children by the early and deep involvement in a long-term educational strategy. They repeatedly teach their children to have aspirations toward higher professional status as well as a competitive attitude in academic performance. In contrast, the less educated working class parents do not emphasize the importance of high education and 'a good educational background' to their children. The differences in the educational aspirations and parenting practices between the two social classes primarily derive from their varying life experiences in the social structure. The middle class interviewees said that their obsession with 'a good education background' was closely related to their sense of fear that their children could fall from the middle class. In contrast to the middle class interviewees, the working class parents had no memories of painful experiences related to their lack of higher education. They claimed that they rarely ever felt inferior and that they rarely regretted their lack of high education. In addition, they did not believe that their lives were more difficult due to their 'low education'.
Prupose: The purpose of this study was to identify signs and symptoms of hospice patients during their dying processes. Method: The subjects of this study were 76 patients who received hospice care services in 2 different hospice care programs in Seoul area. Data was obtained from January, 1999 to June, 2001 by hospice nurse's observation, interviews with patient's primary caregiver and hospice volunteers, patient's self report, nursing records and questionnaires which had been developed by selecting from various references and refining them based on the result of preliminay studies. The collected data were analyzed with the SPSS PC+ program and content analysis. Results: Mean lengths of hospice patient's dying process were 3.6 days. Physical signs and symptoms of hospice patients during their dying processes were 'increased sleep'(89.5%), 'decreased oral intake of food'(88.2%) and 'liquids'(86.8%), 'change of respiration'(82.9%), 'decreased urine output'(80.3%), 'cold extremities'(69.7%), 'death rattle'(67.1%), 'cyanosis'(57.9%), 'restlessness'(55.3%), etc. And psychological, spiritual and social signs and symptoms were 'decreased interpersonal relationships'(61.8%), 'panorama of memories from childhood'(60.5%), 'experiences as like hallucination'(56.5%), 'saying bye with family'(69.7%), 'forgiveness', 'make a will', etc. Experiences as like hallucination were seemed not as dream but reality were shown by 43 dying patients. They had experienced to see and to talk with their deceased mother(18.6%) and/or relatives(30.2%), angels(20.9%), heaven(11.6%), old house in which they had lived, someone from the world beyond with black clothes, etc. Conclusion: The above results indicate that death of hospice patients is ongoing process with dying signs and symptoms during several days contains not only in physical aspects but also among psychological, spiritual and social aspects including family dynamics.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to integrate the results of qualitative studies to understand critical care survivors' experience of the post-intensive care syndrome (PICS). Methods: This was a meta-synthesis of primary studies that used qualitative methods. We reviewed 26 qualitative studies on PICS selected from 8 international and Korean databases and from a manual search. Thomas and Harden's 3 stages (free coding, development of descriptive themes, generation of analytical themes) for thematic synthesis were utilized to analyze the collected qualitative data. Results: Four descriptive themes emerged from the thematic synthesis: weak physical conditions, psycho-emotional changes, the painful-memory of intensive care units, and social vulnerability. The analytical theme for the current study was "unfamiliarity with the vulnerable self." Critical care survivors had to confront entirely different "selves" after discharge from intensive care units. They had become physically weak, psychologically unstable, and the critical memories continued to create distress. These changes increased their social vulnerability by making them dependent on others, causing family conflicts, and changing interpersonal relationships. Conclusions: Finding from this qualitative synthesis and other related literature highlight the severity of PICS and the importance of rehabilitative intervention for critical care survivors.

As on-line informal text data have massive in its volume and have unstructured characteristics in nature, there are limitations in applying traditional relational data model technologies for data storage and data analysis jobs. Moreover, using dynamically generating massive social data, social user's real-time reaction analysis tasks is hard to accomplish. In the paper, to capture easily the semantics of massive and informal on-line documents with unsupervised learning mechanism, we design and implement automatic topic extraction systems according to the mass of the words that consists a document. The input data set to the proposed system are generated first, using N-gram algorithm to build multiple words to capture the meaning of the sentences precisely, and Hadoop and Spark (In-memory distributed computing framework) are adopted to run topic model. In the experiment phases, TB level input data are processed for data preprocessing and proposed topic extraction steps are applied. We conclude that the proposed system shows good performance in extracting meaningful topics in time as the intermediate results come from main memories directly instead of an HDD reading.
This study focused on analysis of experience for adults' reunion with original family members who had lived in child care facilities during the childhood and adolescence. It was researched based on the grounded theory from nineteen participants have interacted with their own separated family members for more than ten years after had been reunited with them. As written in the result section of the study using the paradigm model analysis showed that it was caused by feel regret by reunion, absence of belonging and repeated abandoned wound. The contextual condition appeared as sensitive memories as wounded and frustration of compensation mentality. The centralization phenomenon came in a whirlpool of emotion. The intervention condition appeared as recognition of filial piety, support system for parents and healing their parents mind. The action-interaction showed up as revenge with good will, setting own boding free, inspire of own pride, family reconciliation. The consequence appeared as family sublimation, successful execution of life task and getting living foundation. This research made practical and political proposals based on above result and described the limitations of the study and the proposals for the latter study.
The National September 11 Memorial is the institution that collects, assesses, arranges, uses, exhibits, and preserves collections related to the terror attack on September 11, 2001 (9/11), and the explosion incident at the World Trade Center (WTC) on February 26, 1996. After the 9/11 incident, various groups, including the LMDC and the PANYNJ, have participated in the establishment of this organization. Since its initial establishment, the necessity for memorial institutions and detailed characteristics had been discussed in meetings to gather citizens' opinions. Furthermore, the enactment of the 9/11 Memorial Act has secured the institution's stable operation and management. To properly manage disaster-related collections, a just agreement among the citizens and the government should be made to arrive at rational decision-making. This instution can provide answers regarding those ways. Moreover, managing disaster-related collections should be discussed as an important means of remembering, preserving memories, educating, revealing the truth, and preparing academic information and sources. As a result, collaborative governance in records management after a disaster is expected.
