  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the differences in the health status of the divorced population according to their income status and to explain the social mechanisms. By analyzing 287 midlife men and women divorced within the last 5 years, we found a strong inverse relationship between their health and income status: the low-income divorced group was more liable to depression and poor physical health. Lack of social connections and having less hope for remarriage after getting a divorce were main factors explaining health vulnerability of the low income group among divorced. Further details have been discussed.

  • Recent advances in WSN and the wide use of social sensing technologies have been changing our daily lives. In the process of creating intertwining connections and interconnections greatly influencing on the way we communicate with other people, WSN and social communication media have a number of important capabilities that support their utilization in distress broadcast during emergency situations. This paper proposes a system model that makes better utilization of WSN and social sensing capabilities in sending out distress messages to the intended recipients more efficiently and effectively.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of consumer consumption behavior on sustainable consumption through social media and to verify the mediating effects of social connectedness on sustainable consumption. A survey comprising 222 men and women in their 20s and 30s was conducted in which their consumption expression behavior, sustainable consumption and social connectedness were measured. The results were analyzed using SPSS Process Macro Model 4 and it was found that consumers who shared a considerable amount of personal information on their lifestyle on social media as a means of self-expression exhibited a higher level of sustainable consumption. It also became apparent that the degree of consumption expression behavior had a positive effect on social connectedness and that social connectedness had a positive impact on sustainable consumption by mediating the degree of consumption-focused self-expression on social media. Based on these results, it was confirmed that social media can serve as a mechanism to lead consumers' consumption behavior beyond providing a basis for forming a human network. Implications for the impact of social media on consumption behavior were presented, and proposals for exploring the environment in which sustainable consumption can be activated were suggested, together with ways in which new media can be utilized. The findings from this study indicate that sharing consumption behavior and having a broad range of connections on social media can create an environment in which sustainable consumption is promoted.

  • Tabriz under Mongol Ilkhanate rule commanded a global reach in the thirteenth-century Afro-Eurasian world. Tabriz functioned during this period not only as a commercial emporium and diplomatic center but as a seat of innovative artistic and intellectual activity. Consideration of Tabriz as a world historical city offers insight into the economic and social dynamics that shaped a critical passage in Eurasia's history including regions of the Mediterranean and East Asian zones.

  • Like other communication networks, the Internet is establishing and reinforcing connections between market participants. By adapting to these networks, market participants are able to obtain the power of network to create new benefits in on-line markets. In this paper, we develop three stage non-cooperative game models to analyze the community related business market in electronic commerce where network externalities are present. It is found that, regardless of its market share, individual firm in a market tends to favor a community network. The analysis also shows there exist some possibilities that these community networks can trap the market in an inferior state when better alternatives are available to yield greater social welfare.

  • Objectives: Research has shown that obesity appears to spread through social ties. However, the association between other characteristics of social networks and obesity is unclear. This study aimed to identify the association between social network characteristics and body mass index (BMI, $kg/m^2$) in an elderly Korean population. Methods: This cross-sectional study analyzed data from 657 Koreans (273 men, 384 women) aged 60 years or older who participated in the Korean Social Life, Health, and Aging Project. Network size is a count of the number of friends. Density of communication network is the number of connections in the social network reported as a fraction of the total links possible in the personal (ego-centric) network. Average frequency of communication (or meeting) measures how often network members communicate (or meet) each other. The association of each social network measure with BMI was investigated by multiple linear regression analysis. Results: After adjusting for potential confounders, the men with lower density (<0.71) and higher network size (4-6) had the higher BMI (${\beta}$=1.089, p=0.037) compared to the men with higher density (>0.83) and lower size (1-2), but not in the women (p=0.393). The lowest tertile of communication frequency was associated with higher BMI in the women (${\beta}$=0.885, p=0.049), but not in the men (p=0.140). Conclusions: Our study suggests that social network structure (network size and density) and activation (communication frequency and meeting frequency) are associated with obesity among the elderly. There may also be gender differences in this association.

  • In this paper, we designed and implemented a semantic social network system in Korea Institute of Oriental Medicine (abbreviated as KIOM). Our social network system provides the capabilities such as tracking search, ontology reasoning, ontology graph view, and personal information input, update and management. Tracking search provides the search results by the research information of relevant researchers using ontology, in addition to those by keywords. Ontology reasoning provides the reasoning for experts, mentors, and personal contacts. Users can easily browse the personal connections among researchers by traversing the ontology by graph viewer. These allows KIOM researchers to search other researchers who could aid the researches and to easily share their research information.

  • In this research, I conducted a semantic network analysis centering on media articles on purchasing, revitalizing, and utilizing the former Busan branch of Hansung Bank, a modern architectural heritage. We sought the most efficient analysis elements for the analysis of the social arguments about preservation and utilization embedded in media articles. For this reason, Degree Centrality measures how many connections the word described in the media article has, and Betweenness Centrality measures the influence that controls the flow of information through correlation I examined. In addition, keyword that express the theme well examined the aggregation structure in each sub-network. In this research, in theoretical terms, it makes sense in that the social discussion embedded in the article of the mass media is grasped empirically through semantic network analysis of words. Methodological aspect is best when it includes nouns and adjectives and the distance between words is more than four words in the analysis of the cohesive structure of the semantic network to determine whether the influence of social discussions is best assessed through the connection between words to media articles.

  • Bowlby has proposed that child-mother attachment is important in the child's representation of self. In this study, the child's emotional intelligence was examined in connection with child-mother attachment with a sample of 5-year-olds. The quality of attachment was assessed based on the child's behavior on reunion following a separation, using a SSP (Strange Situation Procedure) system devised by Main and Solomon. The emotional intelligence was assessed with Lee's Scale for young children. The results show significant connections between child-mother attachment and the emotional intelligence. Specific areas of emotional intelligence are related to particular patterns of attachment. Namely, securely attached children are assessed significantly higher than the unsecurely attached, not only in the ability to identify and control their own emotions, but also in the ability to control others' emotional state. Also, securely attached children perceive their social competence significantly higher.

  • Much Interest has focused on social network services such as Facebook and Twitter. Previous research conducted on social network often emphasized the architecture of the social network that is the existence of path between any objects on network and the centrality of the object in the network. However, studies on the semantic association in the network are rare. Studies on searching semantic associations between entities are necessary for future business enhancements. In this research, the ontology based social network analysis is performed. A new method to search and rank relation sequences that consist of several relations between entities is proposed. In addition, several heuristics to measure the strength of the relation sequences are proposed. To evaluate the proposed method, an experiment was performed. A group of social relationships among the university and organizations are constructed. Some social connections are searched using the proposed ranking method. The proposed method is expected to be used to search the association among entities in ontology based knowledge base.
