This paper is given a full detail of mathematical analyses of input current for novel active type power factor correction(PFC) AC-DC converter of step up-down added electric isolation. These are compared with harmonics components of input current for a conventional PFC converter of electric isolation type. The proposed PFC converter is constructed in using a new loss-less snubber circuit to achieve a soft switching of control device. Also the proposed converter for discontinuous conduction mode(DCM) eliminates the complicated circuit control requirement and reduces the size of components. The input current waveform in the proposed converter is got to be a sinusoidal form of discontinuous pulse in proportion to magnitude of ac input voltage under the constant duty cycle switching. Therefore, input power factor is nearly unity and the control method is simple. Particularly, the stored energy of loss-less snubber capacitor is recovered with input side and increases input current from resonant operation. The result is that input power factor of the proposed converter is higher than that of a conventional PFC converter. Some simulative results on computer and experimental results are included to confirm the validity of the analytical results.
This paper describes a hybrid multi-output three-level DC/DC converter suitable for a wide, high-input voltage range of an auxiliary power supply for a high-power photovoltaic generating system. In a high-power photovoltaic generating system, the solar panel output voltage depends on solar radiation quantity and varies from 450Vdc to 1100Vdc. The proposed hybrid multi-output three-level DC/DC converter, which is an auxiliary power supply, would be used as power source for control printed circuit boards and relay and cooling fans in a high-power photovoltaic generating system. The proposed multi-output ($24V_{DC}/30A$, $230V_{DC}/5A$) hybrid three-level boost converter, which uses an energy recovery snubber, is controlled by variable-frequency and phase-shifted modulations and can achieve zero-voltage switching with all operating conditions of input voltage and load range. Experimental results of a 2kW prototype are evaluated and implemented to verify the performance of the proposed converter.
A single active capacitor snubber-assisted soft-switching sinewave pulse modulation utility-interactive power conditioner with a three-winding flyback high frequency transformer link and a bidirectional active power switch in its secondary side has been proposed. With the aid of the switched-capacitor quasi-resonant snubber cell, the high frequency switching devices in the primary side of the proposed DC-to-AC sinewave power inverter can be turned-off with ZVS commutation. In addition to this, the proposed power conditioner in the DCM can effectively take the advantages of ZCS turn-on commutation. Its output port is connected directly to the utility AC power source grid. At the end, the prototype of the proposed HF-UPC is built and tested in experiment. Its power conversion conditioning and processing circuit with a high frequency flyback transformer link is verified and the output sinewave current is qualified in accordance with the power quality guidelines of the utility AC interactive power systems.

In this paper, a prototype of an active auxiliary quasi-resonant DC link (QRDCL) snubber assisted voltage source bidirectional power converter (AC to DC and DC to AC) operating at zero voltage soft-switching (BVS) PWM nlode is presented for a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). The operating principle of this QRDCL circuit and multifunctional control-based converter system, including PWM inverter mode in which energy flows from the battery bank to the three-phase utility-grid in addition to an active PWM converter mode in which energy flows from the utility-grid to the battery banks are described respectively by the control implementation on the basis of d-q coordinate plane transformation. The multifunctional operation characteristics of this three-phase ZVS PWM bi-directional converter with QRDCL is demonstrated fer a BESS under the power conditioning and processing schemes of energy supply mode and energy storage mode, and compared with a conventional three-phase hard switching PWM bi-directional converter for a BESS. The effectiveness of the three-phase ZVS PWM hi-directional converter with QRDCL is proven via the simulation analysis.
This paper presents two new circuit topologies of DC bus lineside active edge resonant snubber assisted soft-switching PWM full-bridge DC-DC converter acceptable for either utility AC 200V-rms or AC 400V-rms input voltage source. One topology of proposed DC-DC converters is composed of a typical voltage source-fed full-bridge high frequency PWM inverter using DC busline side series power semiconductor switching devices with the aid of a parallel capacitive lossless snubber. All the active power switches in the full-bridge arms and DC busline can achieve ZCS turn-on and ZVS turn-off commutations and the total turn-off switching power losses of all active switches can be reduced for high-frequency switching action. It is proved that the more the switching frequency of full-bridge soft switching inverter increases, the more soft-switching PWM DC-DC converter with a hish frequency transformer link has remarkable advantages for its efficiency and power density as compared with the conventional hard-switching PWM inverter type DC-DC converter
Recently, LED light has been increasingly adopted for vehicles in both domestic and foreign automotive markets, while a variety of LED lights have been developed to be used particularly for headlamps. In this paper, we propose an H-type resonant snubber circuit topology for high efficiency of vehicle LDM (LED Driver Module) and realized LDM functions for vehicle headlamp by designing high-efficiency convertors. In addition, this study reduced the financial burden by configuring the system to control the whole with micom except for the use of individual dedicated chips to drive LED for high and low beam. In order to verify the validity of the proposed H-type resonant snubber capable of soft switching, simulations were performed using PSIM. As a result, the validity was experimentally verified by creating a prototype. Moreover, in order to actually attach the headlamp, the performance of the proposed convertor was confirmed by designing LDM to the limited size. Communications between the headlamp and higher controller were realized using LIN(Local Interconnect Network).
A This paper presents a novel three-phase current-fed Pulse Width Modulation converter with switched- capacitor type resonant DC link commutation circuit operating PWM pattern strategy under a design consideration of low-pass filter, which can operate on the basis of the principle of zero current soft-switching commutation. In the first place, the steady-state operating principle of this converter with a new resonant DC link snubber circuit is described in connection with the equivalent operation circuit, together with the practical design procedure of the switched-capacitor type resonant DC link circuit is discussed from a theoretical viewpoint on the basis of a design example for high-power applications. The actively delayed time correction method to compensate distorted currents due to a relatively long resonant commutation time is newly implemented in the open loop control scheme so as to acquire the new optimum PWM pattern. Finally, the experiment or set-up in laboratory system or this converter is concretely demonstrated herein to confirm a zero current soft-switching commutation of this converter. The comparative evaluations between current-fed hard switching PWM and soft-switching PWM converters are carried out from a viewpoint of their PWM converter characteristics.
The IGBT(Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor) is a power semiconductor device that has gained acceptance among circuit design engineers for motor drive and power converter applications. IGBT devices(International Rectifier, Proposed proposed model etc) have the best features of both power MOSFETs and power bipolar transistors, i.e., efficient voltage gate drive requirememts and high current density capability. When designing circuit and systems that utilize IGBTs or other power semiconductor devices, circuit simulations are needed to examine how the devices affect the behavior of the circuit. The interaction of the IGBT with the load circuit can be described using the device model and the state equation of the load circuit. The voltage rise rate at turn-off for inductive loads varies significantly for IGBTs with different base life times, and this rate of rise is important in determing the voltage overshoot for a given series resistor-inductor load circuit. Excessive voltage overshoot is potentially destructive, so a snubber protection circuit may be required. The protection circuit requirements are unique for the IGBT and can be examined using the model. The IGBT model in this paper is verified by comparing the results of the model with experimented results for various circuit operating conditions. The model performs well and describes experimented results accurately for the range of static and dynamic condition in which the device is intended to be operated.
In this paper we further propose to add a very simple regenerative clamping circuit to SSIPP to reduce the voltage stress and to recycle the energy trapped in the leakage inductance of the isolation transformer, thus eliminating the need for a lossy snubber circuit. In addition, this proposed clamping circuit also provides a mechanism to reset the magnetizing current of the output transformer of SSIPP employing a Forward converter as the output stage. Simulations and experimental results are reported to verify the operation and performance of the SSIPP with regenerative clamping.
