A dedicated reverse engineering(RE) system for rapid manufacturing of human head in a 3D bust has been developed. The first step in the process is to capture the surface details of a human head and shoulder by three scanners based upon the digital moire fringe technique. Then the multiple scans captured from different angles are aligned and merged into a single polygonal mesh, and the aligned data set is refined by smoothing, subdividing or hole filling process. Finally, the refined data set is sent to a 4-axis computer numerically control(NC) machine to manufacture a replica. In this paper, we mainly describe on the algorithms and software for aligning multiple data sets. The method is based on the recently popular Iterative Closest Point(ICP) algorithm that aligns different polygonal meshes into one common coordinate system. The ICP algorithm finds the nearest positions on one scan to a collection of points on the other scan by minimizing the collective distance between different scans. We also integrate some heuristics into the ICP to enhance the aligning process. A typical example is presented to validate the system and further research work is also discussed.
In this paper, a preventive transmission rate decision algorithm, called PTRD, is proposed for the transmission of live video over networks with dynamic bandwidth allocation capability. Frame analyzer predicts the bit-rates of future frames before encoding by analyzing the source information such as spatial variances and the degree of scene changes. By using the predicted bit-rates, transmission rate bounds are derived from the constraints of encoder and decoder buffers. To resolve the problem of renegotiation cost increment due to frequent renegotiations, the PTRD algorithm is presented to decide transmission rates considering the elapsed time after the recent renegotiation and the perceived video quality. From the simulation results, compared to the normalized LMS based method, PTRD is shown to achieve high channel utilization with low renegotiation cost and no delay violation.

We developed a path algorithm for ultrafast/wide area laser processing. Demands for high precision laser processing with a wide area has been increasing for a number of applications such as in solar cell battery, display parts, electronic component and automobile industry. Expansion of the area in which laser processing is an important factor to handle the ultrafast/wide area processing, it will require a processing path. Processing path is path of 2- axis stage and stage of change in velocity can be smooth as possible. In this paper, we proposed a smoothingnurbs method of improved speed profile. This method creates soft path from edge part, it is main purpose that scan area ($50mm{\times}50mm$) inside processing path makes path of topology of possible straight line. We developed a simulation tool using Visual C++.

Noise reduction is an important issue in the field of image processing because image noise worsens the quality of the input image. The basic difficulty is that the noise and the signal are not easy to distinguish. Simple moothing is one of the most basic and important procedures to remove the noise, however, it does not consider the level of noise. This method effectively reduces the noise but the feature area is simultaneously blurred. This paper considers the block approach to detect noise and image features of the input image so that noise reduction could be adaptively applied. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm improves the overall quality of the image by removing the noise according to the noise level.

Media Access Control (MAC) Protocol in IEEE 802.11 Wireless LAN standard supports two types of services, synchronous and asynchronous. Synchronous real-time traffic is served by Point Coordination Function (PCF) that implements polling access method. Asynchronous nonreal-time traffic is provided by Distributed Coordination Function (DCF) based on Carrier Sense Multiple Access with Collision Avoidance (CSMA/CA) protocol. Since real-time traffic is sensitive to delay, and nonreal-time traffic to error and throughput, proper traffic scheduling algorithm needs to be designed. But it is known that the standard IEEE 802.11 scheme is insufficient to serve real-time traffic. In this paper, real-time traffic scheduling and admission control algorithm is proposed. To satisfy the deadline violation probability of the real time traffic the downlink traffic is scheduled before the uplink by Earliest Due Date (EDD) rule. Admission of real-time connection is controlled to satisfy the minimum throughput of nonreal-time traffic which is estimated by exponential smoothing. Simulation is performed to have proper system capacity that satisfies the Quality of Service (QoS) requirement. Tradeoff between real-time and nonreal-time stations is demonstrated. The admission control and the EDD with downlink-first scheduling are illustrated to be effective for the real-time traffic in the wireless LAN.

The maritime industry is expanding at an alarming rate and as such there is a perpetual need to improve situation awareness in the maritime environment using new and emerging technology. Tracking is one of the numerous ways of enhancing situation awareness by providing information that may be useful to the operator. The tracking system described herein comprises determining existing states of own ship, state prediction and state compensation caused by random noise. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the process of tracking and develop a tracking algorithm by using ${\alpha}-{\beta}-{\gamma}$ tracking filter under a random noise or irregular motion for use in a warship. The algorithm involves initializing the input parameters of position, velocity and course. The actual positions are then computed for each time interval. In addition, a weighted difference of the observed and predicted position at the nth observation is added to the predicted position to obtain the smoothed position. This estimation is subsequently employed to determine the predicted position at (n+1). The smoothed values, predicted values and the observed values are used to compute the twice distance root mean square (2drms) error as a measure of accuracy of the tracking module.
In this paper, a meshfree-enriched finite element method (ME-FEM) is introduced for the large deformation analysis of nonlinear path-dependent problems involving contact. In linear ME-FEM, the element formulation is established by introducing a meshfree convex approximation into the linear triangular element in 2D and linear tetrahedron element in 3D along with an enriched meshfree node. In nonlinear formulation, the area-weighted smoothing scheme for deformation gradient is then developed in conjunction with the meshfree-enriched element interpolation functions to yield a discrete divergence-free property at the integration points, which is essential to enhance the stress calculation in the stage of plastic deformation. A modified variational formulation using the smoothed deformation gradient is developed for path-dependent material analysis. In the industrial metal forming problems, the mortar contact algorithm is implemented in the explicit formulation. Since the meshfree-enriched element shape functions are constructed using the meshfree convex approximation, they pose the desired Kronecker-delta property at the element edge thus requires no special treatments in the enforcement of essential boundary condition as well as the contact conditions. As a result, this approach can be easily incorporated into a conventional displacement-based finite element code. Two elasto-plastic problems are studied and the numerical results indicated that ME-FEM is capable of delivering a volumetric locking-free and pressure oscillation-free solutions for the large deformation problems in metal forming analysis.
In this paper, we propose a new speech separation algorithm to extract and enhance the target speech signals from mixed speech signals by utilizing both magnitude and phase information. Since the previous statistical modeling algorithms assume that the log power spectrum values of the mixed speech signals are independent in the temporal and frequency domain, discontinuities occur in the resultant separated speech signals. To reduce the discontinuities, we apply a smoothing filter in the time-frequency domain. To further improve speech separation performance, we propose a statistical model based on both magnitude and phase information of speech signals. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm improve signal-to-interference ratio (SIR) by 1.5 dB compared with the previous magnitude-only algorithms.

Conventional Fourier analysis can give only limited information about the dynamic characteristics of nonstationary signals. Instead, time-frequency analysis is widely used to investigate the nonstationary signal in detail. Several time-frequency analysis methods are compared for a typical acoustic emission burst generated during the impact between a ferrite ceramic and aluminum plate. This AE burst is inherently nonstationary and random containing many frequency contents, which leads to severe interference between cross terms in bilinear convolution type distributions. The smoothing and reassignment processes can improve the readability and resolution of the results. Spectrogram and scalogram of the AE burst are obtained and compared to get the characteristics information. Renyi entropies are computed for various bilinear time-frequency transforms to evaluate the randomness. These bilinear transforms are reassigned by using the improved algorithm in discrete computation.
