We describe a case of a 48-year-old Korean woman who had a subepithelial mass incidentally discovered by endoscopic examination. Endoscopic mucosal resection revealed a well-circumscribed whitish solid mass within the submucosal space. Microscopically, the tumor was comprised of sparse spindle cells in the dense collagenous stroma with several calcifications and lymphoid aggregates. Immunohistochemical analysis showed that the tumor cells are negative for c-kit, smooth muscle actin, desmin, S-100 and CD34. Based on these findings, the tumor was diagnosed with calcifying fibrous tumor.

The present observation was focussed mainly on the histopathological and immunohistochemical finding of the tumor developing from the outside of rat uterus wall. In gross finding, this tumor were a oval form mass and 0.75cm and 1cm in greatest demension. The sectioned surface showed uniform, solid, gray-white. In histopathological finding, the tumor showed the form of lymphoid nodule-like structure and was composed of the cells with karryorrhexis, karyolysis and necrosis in the central zone, mature cells in the paracentral zone, and concentric layers of compressed, flattened and atrophied smooth muscle fibers by the proliferating of the cells closely resembling endometrial stromal ells in the peripheral zone and a few smaller nodule-like structure in certain areas of the peripheral zone. In immunohistochemical observations, the proliferating cells presents only among the concentric layers of the smooth muscle fibers in the peripheral zone. Labeling index of proliferating cells in the peripheral zone was $4.34{\pm}1.28%$. These tumor cells did not metastasized in another orgns and labeling index was low, So it was concluded that this tumor was benign stomal sarcoma.

The glomus tumor is a distinctive benign neoplasm, the cells of which resemble the modified smooth muscle cells of the normal glomus body. This tumor occurs most frequently in the extremities but may find elsewhere in the body. Only one case of mediastinal glomus tumor has been reported in the world. Recently we experienced a case of mediastinal glomus tumor managed with surgical removal and followed up without any significant complications for 17 months.

Objective : Euonymus alatus (Thunb.) Sieb (EA) is a traditional Korean herbal medicine, commonly used to treat tumors in Korea and China for centuries. Several earlier studies have indicated that EA exhibits anti-tumor properties, but its mechanism remains to be elucidated. In this study, we evaluated the molecular mechanism of EA in a human uterine leiomyomal smooth muscle cell (ULSMC) line. Methods : This study was evaluated by: (a), morphological changes by using acridine orange/ethidium bromide staining; (b), DNA fragmentation by TdT-mediated dUTP nick end labeling (TUNEL); and (c), sub-G1 cell analysis. Results : This study observed that EA treatment caused apoptotic cell death and depletion of intracellular glutathione (GSH) and that reduction of mitochondrial membrane potential was found to be involved in the initiation of apoptosis by EA. Conclusion : This results show that EA exerted clear cytotoxic effects and strongly inhibited the proliferation of ULSMC.

Angiomyolipoma of the liver is a rare benign tumor that's composed of variable mixtures of adipose tissue, smooth muscle and thick-walled blood vessels. We report here on the imprint cytologic features of a hepatic angiomyolipoma in a 47-year-old man. The smears showed spindle and epithelioid tumor cells in clusters, trabeculae and single cells. The spindle cells had elongated, cigar-shaped nuclei with finely granular chromatin and fibrillary cytoplasm. The epithelioid cells had round nuclei with a moderate amount of cytoplasm. Any adipose tissue was not found. Immunohistochemically, both the spindle and epithelioid cells revealed cytoplasmic positivity for smooth muscle actin and HMB-45.

원발성으로 폐에 발생하는 평활근육종(leiomyosarcoma)은 매우 드물다. 한림대학교 강동성심병원 흉부외과학 교실에서는 46세 남자환자의 좌측 폐상엽기관지에서 발생한 종 양을 흉부전산화 단층촬영에서 발견하였다. 객담검사및 기관지내시경하 조직생검에서 종양세포는 발견되 지 못하였다. 환자는 좌측 수상 폐상엽 절제술을 통해 폐실질에 부분적으로 침범된 기관지내에 발생한 종양을 제거 하였다. 술후 현미경하 조직소견을 관찰한 결과 종양세포는 이형성 방추형세포로 15/10HFP의 유사분열을 하고 있었고 긴다발로 배열되어 있었으며, 면역조직화학적 염색상 smooth muscle actin과 desmin에 양성으 로 염색되었다. 종양은 폐에서 원발성으로 발생한 평활근육종으로 진단되었고, 문헌고찰과 함께 보고하는바이다.

세포 배양액에 tetracycline이 없는 경우 FADD를 발현하면서 사멸하는 평활근세포 (FADD-SMC)에서 분비하는 $TNF-\alpha$의 활성을 조사하였다. 배양액에 tetracycline이 없는 경우 FADD-SMC는 약 1000 pg/ml의 $TNF-\alpha$를 분비하였다. $TNF-\alpha$를 포함하는 배양액을 분리하고, 이 배양액을 정상세포에 처리한 결과 인산화한 p38 MAPK와 nuclear, factor, kappa B (NF-kB)의 활성이 증가하였다. 또한 이 배양액을 L929 세포에 처리하는 경우 세포독성이 발생하였다. NF-kB, p38 MAPK 그리고 L929 세포에 대찬 효과는 배양액에서 suluble TNF receptor를 이용하여 $TNF-\alpha$를 제거하는 경우 감소하였다.

The incidence of pulmonary leiomyosarcoma is very rare as a primary lung tumor. Usually, pulmonary leiomyosarcoma arise from the smooth muscle present in the bronchi or blood vessles. We had experienced two cases of primary pulmonary leiomyosarcoma. The first case was 28-year old male patient who had been in good health until admission, when he experienced an episode of dyspnea and sudden hemoptysis. The chest X-ray film revealed a large round tumor mass in left lower lobe measuring 6.5x9.5x5.3cm in dimension. On physical examination,the patient was friction rub and rales on the left lower chest and postoperative course was smooth and non-eventful. Emergency left lower lobectomy was performed due to repeated hemoptysis. Chemotheraphy was done postoperatively as an adjuvant therapy.The second case was 52-year-old man who had been well prior to admission, when recently he noticed a abrupt growing tendency of old pulmonary coin lesion in right lower lobe on routine physical examination. Since 1968, small round mass was gradually enlarged very slowly, during recent one year interval, the tumor mass was enlarged abruptly as twice in size on chest X-ray. Bronchoscopic examination revealed no specipic findings. Right lower lobectomy was performed and pathologic examination was answered as primary leiomyosarcoma without lymph node metastasis. Postoperative course was smooth, except local wound infection.

Leiomyosarcoma is defined as a malignant smooth muscle tumor or a tumor that arises from smooth muscle and it is found as firm. white and lobulated mass. Canine uterine Ieiomyosa- rcomas are rarely associated with clinical signs. We surveyed(one case which was treated at veter- inary medical leaching hospital of Seoul National University. Through this report we studied the meshed fur diagnosis of uterine leiomyosarcoma by symptom, hematological method and ultrahonog- raphy. To determine uterine leiomysarcoma is difficult due to similarity of clinical signs to pyometra. Especially symptoms could not be noticed even by dogs owners until dogs have an elevation of the number of white blood cells. We conclude ultrasonographic observation and experimental laparotomy are of great value to diagnose the uterine liomyosarcoma.
