A new iridoid glucoside was isolated from the whole plant of Ajuga spectabilis Nakai (Jaran-cho; Labiatae). This compound was obtained as white plate-like crystal and named as Jaranidoside. It has a molecular formula $C_{17}H_{26}O_{12}$ and mp $128{\sim}130^{\circ}C$. The structure of the Jaranidoside was assumed from data of chemical reactions and PMR specturum of the compound. To determine the most favorable conformation, informations on the proton coupling and chemical shift were used. Jaranidoside exhibited a stimulating activity on smooth muscle and cardiac muscle. No antimicrobial activity on five microorganism strains was observed.

The spherical CVT, intended to overcome some of the limitations of existing CVT designs, is marked by its simple kinematic design, improved efficiency of the shift actuator, and IVT characteristics, i.e., the ability of smooth transition between the forward, neutral, and reverse states without the need for any brakes or clutches. And it has been promised much possibility of energy savings and various applications for small power capacity machinery. Due to the nonlinearity of the spherical CVT shifting dynamics, however the original open-loop system is inherently unstable. Hence a feedback controller is necessary to make the system stable and to achieve effective tracking performance. To do this, we designed a feedback controller that cancels nonlinearities and transforms the original nonlinear system dynamics into a stable and controllable linear one, based on the input-state linearization method.

In this paper, we propose the lossless image compression algorithm using the integer wavelet transform. Recently, the S＋P transform is widely used and computed with only integer addition and bit-shift operations, but not proper to remove the correlation of smooth images. then we compare the Harr wavelet of the S＋P transform with various integer coefficient filter banks and apply 9/7 ICFB to the wavelet transform. In addition, we propose a entropy-coding method that exploits the multiresolution structure and the feedback of the prediction error, and can efficiently compress the transformed image for progressive transmission. Simulation results are compared to the compression ratio using the S+P transform with different types of images.

The creep behavior of gels made with $30{\sim}45%$ gelatinized rice starch was measured over a wide range of temperature. Compressive creep curves of rice starch gels conformed to a six element mechanical model consisting of one Hookean, two Voigt and one Newtonian component. The creep compliance of gels decreased with increasing starch concentrations. Among viscoelastic constants of the mechanical model, elastic modulus was mainly influenced by the change of starch concentrations. The concentration-invariant compliance curve was obtained by reduction to 38% using reduction parameter $a_{c}$. The creep compliance curves of 45% starch gels increased with temperature, which indicated that rice starch gels became softer and less rigid with increasing temperature. When the compliance at $20^{\circ}C$ was set as a reference curve, creep compliance data for 45% gels at various temperature could be superimposed as a continuous smooth curve. The apparent activation energies of 45% rice starch gels calculated by the modified WLF equation were not intrinsic, but decreased as temperature increased.

The Ca_v1.2 Ca²⁺ channel is essential for cardiac and smooth muscle contractility and many physiological functions. We mutated single, double, and quadruple sites of the four potential Asn (N)-glycosylation sites in the rabbit Ca_v1.2 into Gln (Q) to explore the effects of Nglycosylation. When a single mutant (N124Q, N299Q, N1359Q, or N1410Q) or Ca_v1.2/WT was expressed in Xenopus oocytes, the biophysical properties of single mutants were not significantly different from Ca_v1.2/WT. In comparison, the double mutant N124,299Q showed a positive shift in voltage-dependent gating. Furthermore, the quadruple mutant (QM; N124,299,1359,1410Q) showed a positive shift in voltage-dependent gating as well as a reduction of current. We tagged EGFP to the QM, double mutants, and Ca_v1.2/WT to chase the mechanisms underlying the reduced currents of QM. The surface fluorescence intensity of QM was weaker than that of Ca_v1.2/WT, suggesting that the reduced current of QM arises from its lower surface expression than Ca_v1.2/WT. Tunicamycin treatment of oocytes expressing Ca_v1.2/WT mimicked the effects of the quadruple mutations. These findings suggest that Nglycosylation contributes to the surface expression and voltage-dependent gating of Ca_v1.2.

An electrostatic interaction is responsible for the attachment of gold seeds of 1-3 nm onto APTMS (3-aminopropyl trimethoxysilane)-coated silica cores in the formation of gold clusters. A surface plasmon resonance and morphology of gold clusters were significantly affected by the pH of gold colloids prepared by THPC reducing agent. Gold colloids of alkaline pH induced the heterogeneous deposition of gold seeds onto the silica nanoparticles, probably due to the continuous reduction of residual gold ions during the attachment process. Gold colloids of acidic pH induced the monodisperse deposition of gold seeds, consequently leading to the formation of smooth gold layer on the silica nanoparticles surface. The gold nanoshells (core radius = 80 nm) prepared by gold colloids of pH 3.1 exhibited the more red-shift and relatively stronger intensity of plasmon absorption bands, compared with gold nanoshells prepared by alkaline gold colloids of pH 9.7.

The present study was aimed at elucidating the mode of inhibitory action of tricyclic antidepressants on the smooth muscle. Effects of amitriptyline on the isolated detrusor muscle strips of the urinary bladder of the rabbit were examined. The spontaneous rhythmic movement of the muscle preparation was frequently observed, which was decreased or abolished by addition of amitriptyline $(10^{-5}{\sim}10^{-3}\;M)$. The muscle preparation responded with contraction dose dependently to carbachol, of which dose response curve shifted to the right in the presence of either amitriptyline or atropine. However, amitriptyline produced a nonparallel shift, whereas atropine caused a parallel one. In calcium free medium, the contraction response to carbachol was markedly decreased, which was resumed by the addition of $CaCl_2$ (2.5mM), but not in the presence of either amitriptyline or nifedipine. KCI (60 mM) produced a potent contraction, which was abolished in the presence of amitriptyline or nifedipine. These results suggest that amitriptyline, unlike atropine, not only acts as a noncompetitive antagonist at cholinergic muscarine receptors but also inhibits Ca-influx through the muscle cell membrane.

Multi-scale image segmentation is important in many applications such as image stylization and medical diagnosis. This paper proposes a novel segmentation algorithm based on MSER(maximally stable extremal region) which captures multi-scale structure and is stable and efficient. The algorithm collects MSERs and then partitions the image plane by redrawing MSERs in specific order. To denoise and smooth the region boundaries, hierarchical morphological operations are developed. To illustrate effectiveness of the algorithm's multi-scale structure, effects of various types of LOD control are shown for image stylization. The proposed technique achieves this without time-consuming multi-level Gaussian smoothing. The comparisons of segmentation quality and timing efficiency with mean shift-based Edison system are presented.

A planetary gear assembly is a key component to combine and/or split a power from the source. With a planetary gear assembly, a continuously variable unit extends its capacity by means of power bra nching mechanism. Power branching with one planetary gear assembly and one continuously variable unit is categorized into 12 basic types. Each type represents peculiar power transmitting characteristics. Additionally, a multi-mode (range) continuously variable transmission can be designed with accompanying clutches. A multi-mode continuously variable transmission changes the path through which the source power is transmitted. Each path has its own features, such as high efficiency. In this paper, some design principles are examined such as, criteria to guarantee the minimum power efficiency, and constraints to guarantee the smooth mode shift after discussing well-known features of multi-mode M mathematically.

Arthroscopic anterior cruciate ligament reconstructions using bone-patella tendon-bone have been considered the best method by which others are compared. The notchyplasty is one of the important steps of this procedure and it is emphasized recently to prevent retear of the reconstructed ACL caused by impingement. However, until now, there is controversy about adequate amount of notchyplasty. Also, it is hard to examine the adequacy of notchyplasty even in the arthroscopic field, The purpose of this paper is to describe the surgical technique of notchyplasty, using the flexible reamer and preliminary result of its operation. In this study the results of ACL reconstruction with notchyplasty which is made by us were analized from January. 1994 to December, 1995. The results were as follows: 1. The notchyplasty with flexible reamer is the method that can be obtained adequate amount of removal, perfectly smooth notchyplasty. 2. The range of motion of the affected knee joint was normal ROM after post operation 6 month. 3. In the last follow up, 2 cases were positive in anterior drawer test 4 cases were positive in Lachmann's test and 1 knee was positive in Pivot shift test 4. Average Lysholm knee scoring scale was 70 points at preoperative and 92 points at the last follow up.
