A Floristic Study on the Economic Plants of Deogyusan National Park Area (덕유산 국립공원일대의 자원식물상 연구)

  • This study aims to investigate the distribution of the useful resources plants and the flora of Deogyusan. The flora of Deogyusan was investigated from April in 2002 to November in 2003. Vascular plants of this area consist of total 549 taxa; 9 forma, 64 varieties, 476 species, 281 genera, 90 families. It corresponds to $13.5\%$ of totally 4,071 taxa appeared in Korea. Useful plants of this area were investigated 399 taxa. It corresponds to $72.5\%$ of collected plants in this area under our study. Among the useful plants, there are 205 taxa of edible source, 179 taxa of pasture source, 159 taxa of medicinal source, 70 taxa of ornamental source, 15 taxa of timber, and 17 taxa of industrial raw materials. Korean endemic plants were composed 18 families, 23 genera, 19 species, 4 varieties and totaling 25 taxa.

Vascular Plants of East Area in Girisan -Areas in Georim Valley, Baekmudong Valley, Hanshin Valley, Jungsanri Valley- (지리산 동부지역의 관속식물상 -거림계곡, 백무동계곡, 한신계곡, 중산리계곡을 중심으로-)

  • The vascular plants species were summarized as 479 taxa: 89 families, 260 gents, 404 species, 66 varieties, 8 forms and 1 hybrid in the whole 6 surveyed areas of eastern parts of Jirisan (Georim Valley, Baengmudong Valley, Hanshin Valley, Jungsanri Valley, Sesokpyongjeon, and Chonwangbong). Based on the list of Korean endemic plants, 26 species were recorded: Athyrium excelsius (Aspidiaceae), Abies koreana (Pinaceae), Betula ermani var. saitoana (Betulaceae) etc. The special plants from the list of Ministry of Forest, the Forest Research Institute (1997) and the Ministry of Environment (2001), 15 species were recorded: Smilacina bicolor (Liliaceae), Disporum ovale (Liliaceae), Clematis chiisanensis (Ranunculaceae) etc. And 15 species of naturalized plants were recorded: Oenothera biennis (Onagraceae), Ambrosia artemisiaefolia (Asteraceae), Carduus crispus (Asteraceae), etc. Especially, the Korean endemic plants repeatedly appeared around mountain-trails and Ambrosia artemisiaefolia (Asteraceae), also, popular were distributed in the entire studied areas.

Vascular Plants Distributed in Ridge of the Northernmost Baekdudaegan Mountains(Hyangrobong~Guryongryeong) (최북단 백두대간(향로봉~구룡령) 능선부에 분포하는 관속식물상)

  • The purpose of this study is to provide the basic data for management of the ecosystem of Baekdudaegan Mountains by surveying and analysing the vascular plants distributed from Hyangrobong area to Guryongryeong area. The numbers of vascular plants in the whole survey areas were summarized as 633 taxa including 95 families, 321 genera, 549 species, 4 subspecies, 70 varieties, and 10 forms. There were 285 taxa in Hyangrobong area, 256 taxa in Masanbong area, 318 taxa in Mt. Seoraksan area, 281 taxa in Mt. Jeombongsan area, 173 taxa in Bukamryeong and Ohsaekcheon valley area, 197 taxa in Soenadeuri area, 203 taxa in Yeongarigol area, and 168 taxa in Guryongryeong area. The endangered species were 2 taxa including Leontice microrrhyncha and Smilacina bicolor. The rare plants were 39 taxa including Pinus pumila, Halenia corniculata, Juniperus chinensis var. sargentii, and so forth. In IUCN Red List categories, there were 2 taxa of CR, 7 taxa of EN, 10 taxa of VU, 18 taxa of LC, and 2 taxa of DD. The Korean endemic plants were 23 taxa including Salix koriyanagi, Anemone koraiensis, Lespedeza maritima, Cirsium setidens, Saussurea seoulensis, Carex okamotoi, and so forth. The plants adaptable to climate change were 48 taxa including 17 taxa of endemic plants, 1 taxon of southern plant, and 30 taxa of northern plants. The naturalized plants were 32 taxa including Fallopia dumetorum, Cerastium glomeratum, Papaverrhoeas, Bidensfrondosa, Lolium perenne, and so forth. The invasive alien plants were 3 taxa including Rumex acetocella, Ambrosia artemisiifolia, and Ambrosia trifida.

Phytosociological Community Type Classification and Flora of Vascular Plants for the Forest Vegetation of Daecheongbong Area in Mt. Seorak (설악산 대청봉일대 산림식생의 식물사회학적 군락유형 및 관속 식물상 특성)

  • The subalpine zone which is vulnerable to climate change could be functioning as a habitat for northern plant species especially in the Korean peninsula. In this study, classification of phytosociological community type and investigation on flora of vascular plants of Daecheongbong area in Mt. Seorak were carried out in order to provide a basic information for an ecological restoration and management of the vegetation through community ecological approach. Vegetation data were collected from 31 of quadrates from May to October, 2016. We analyzed vegetation types with phytosociological method, importance value with Curtis & McIntosh method, CCA using PC-ORD program tool, and flora of vascular plants. As a result, the forest vegetation was classified into Abies nephrolepis community. The community was divided 3 groups such as Pinus pumila group, Rhododendron brachycarpum group and Angelica decursiva group. Therefore, the vegetation had 3 kinds of units. The differential species group, it was classified into total of 7 species group units including Thuja koraiensis and Smilacina bicolor differential species group. The mean importance percentage (MIP) in VU 1 was shown Pinus koraiensis (24.1), A. nephrolepis (23.6) and Betula ermanii (10.5), and in VU 2, it was P. koraiensis (26.2), A. nephrolepis (20.8) and B. ermanii (10.5), and in VU 3, it was P. koraiensis (22.2), A. nephrolepis (16.4), B. ermanii (13.5) in the order, respectively. As for importance values of P. koraiensis and A. nephrolepis representative competition species, were different at each layers. The former (46.7) was higher than the latter (26.1) in tree layer, but the latter was higher than the former in subtree and, shrub and herb layers of VU 1. VU 2 and VU 3 also indicated the same tendency. P. pumila group and A. decursiva group were shown to have positive correlation with altitude and present species, respectively. The designated as the endemic plant was 11 taxa and, as the rare plant 24 taxa and 62.5% of vascular plant was northern plant species. It is necessary to continue further long-term monitoring of 3 vegetation units, IV of main competition species (P. koraiensis and A. nephrolepis) with stratum and main specific species (rare plants and endemic plants) considering vegetation science and, population and community ecology approaches.
